A Statuesque Betrayal

Part 1

For Justacritic

By Draconicon

Godfrey doubted that he would ever get used to the heat burning the very air within the Demon Kingdom of Hudur. Every breath sizzled the lungs, and his scales and the few strands of fur that poked through it were constantly awash with a layer of sweat. Were it not for the enchanted fountains that he had brought with him from Mahoro, his homeland, his existence would have been all but unbearable.

He imagined that the other Dragon Paladins that had been handed over as part of the peace treaty felt the same. It was one thing to live among their enemies. It was quite another to find any enjoyment in it.

The blue-scaled dragon leaned against the window of the little cottage he'd been given on the border, watching the work parties of slaves that the demons drove by whips from one place to another. They were busily rebuilding the villages and towns that had been on the border before the war, though the walls that they had constructed - and that his men had torn down - were nowhere to be seen.

At least, not yet. Godfrey imagined that they would show up eventually. The demons were not peaceful creatures, no matter how much his king believed that they would keep to the treaty.

He felt his lips pulling up in a snarl as the whip came down again, and the dragon reached up to pull it back down before any of the overseers looked his way. Turning from the window, he walked back to the bed at the edge of his one-room cottage, sitting down at the foot of it and trying not to let the crushing air of Hubur break him down.

This treaty is just waiting to be broken...

The war between Mahoro and Hubur had raged for nearly a decade, with Godfrey and his paladins making significant gains in the last two. They had been the ones to break the stalemate and end the constant raids across the border that the demons had committed. They had been the ones to push miles past the border defenses and strike at the actual strongholds, bringing down the demon lords that had been casting their magic past the borders and wreaking havoc on the people within Mahoro. He and his dragons had done more for the people of his kingdom than the king ever had.

And then, two years of gains later, when the paladins had brought those that had been willing to fight at their side right to the very base of Hubur's greatest citadel, when they were on the verge of shattering the strength of the demon lords once and for all, they'd been betrayed.

Peace is never a betrayal. Peace is power. Peace is order. Peace is ideal.

Even as the former Captain-General of the Dragon Paladins reminded himself of his own precepts, he could barely believe them. The Tiger King, first of his line, had ordered the paladins to stand down once he had negotiated a peace treaty with the demon lords, and despite the possibility of a total victory, Godfrey had followed orders. He had dragged his army back to the border, and there, he waited for the withdrawal of the enemy troops from his lands.

They had come, leaving behind twenty of their officers. Then, and only then, had he been told of the other part of the peace treaty. The Dragon Paladins, the very thing that had turned the tide of the war in Mahoro's favor, were to be disbanded for the sake of encouraging peace. The great officers of the order, those that had held power and slashed apart the defenses of Hubur and brought it to its knees, would be given as hostages, just as the demon officers left behind had been given to the Tiger King as his hostages.

It was meant to encourage behavior, and both sides regularly sent visitors to ensure that their side was being treated well, kept safe, and the like. Godfrey had played host for no less than six different envoys, as none had seen it suitable to visit the blasted lands of Hubur a second time. Each visit had been a month apart, and the latest had only left the day before. It would be another month before he saw another of his kind again.

Godfrey breathed out slowly, leaning into his hands. Every bone in his body told him that this was a mistake, that they were playing into the demons' hands and that this was some way for them to regroup and grow stronger. The Tiger King had never entirely liked the power that Godfrey and his order had held, to be sure, but he had never thought the monarch would be this stupid in an attempt to get rid of them.

We have to try, the once-paladin thought. We have to try for peace, even if we can't succeed.

The sweltering air, so hot that it defied the small fountains that danced and twinkled in his cottage, was oppressive enough that he lacked the energy to fight his depression. Sighing, the great blue dragon leaned back, falling into his bed and closing his eyes. Perhaps after some rest, he would be able to see hope again.

#

He woke, not in his bed, but in restraints. His arms were over his head, and his feet were all but embedded in a stone plinth. Shackles too tight to be anything but stone were wrapped around his ankles and his tail, holding him in place, and he felt the caress of hot winds blowing over his body in a way that could never have happened while he was dressed.

He'd been kidnapped. Godfrey opened his eyes and tried to thrash his tail, only to find that it wouldn't move. Nor would his legs, or his hips, or anything below his chest. He looked down -

No...

Everything from his toes to his stomach had been turned a deep gray, almost as if he were looking at stone rather than scales. Even as he saw what had happened to him, the gray continued to climb up his body, slowly forcing his muscles to go stiff before creeping further and further into him. He could still feel everything beneath that gray layer, but it refused to move, and it felt harder, more solid, more sensitive than ever before.

At his feet were black and red demons, almost more like imps even though they were bigger than those winged beasts. They chittered and laughed, grinning as they leaped from one place to another. None were taller than six feet, and they were half-starved, skinny and slight of form. White and yellow fangs poked past their gaunt lips, and they laughed as they leaped about, cocks flashing between their legs when they stood up and danced with glee at their acquisition.

As the stone crept further up, reaching his chest and petrifying his pectorals, Godfrey took a deep breath and held it. The pressure on his chest was almost unbearable, but he managed to keep his focus on that feeling, on the reminder of flesh.

I am Godfrey. I am the Captain-General of the Dragon Paladins. You will not hold me. You will not keep me.

And as he maintained that mantra, he reached for the power of the paladins. The god-given strength to stand up to those that defied the nature of the world, the demons that warped and twisted the very land itself to take what they wanted, burned in his chest. He felt it, the glowing light and the holy fire, and he channeled it through his veins.

Even as the gray stone climbed up to his throat and down his arms, even as it formed a restraint more effective than any chains, he kept pushing the light through him. He closed his eyes as the stiffening sensation crept up his throat, over his jaws. Soon, he could no longer open his mouth, but that didn't matter. Speech did not matter in the face of evil, where there were no ears to hear. All that mattered was the great light inside.

And as his eyes were frozen shut, as the stone crept up his horns and along his fingers and wrists, he felt the light swell. He threw everything he had into that warmth, embracing the holy light as it burned, offering its own heat against the fires of Hubur.

The gray stone sealed him in...then cracked.

The demons ceased their dancing as Godfrey broke the layer of stone from inside, shaking it off in a rain of dust. The chains remained, keeping his arms over his head, but he had broken free of the magical restraints that they had summoned. The demons leaped back, hissing and growling like wild cats, but the dragon maintained his dignity. Such as it was, considering his nudity.

Nevertheless, he summoned as stern a face as he could, narrowing his eyes at the demons as they hissed and whirled around his bound form. He cast his eyes on the strongest of them, one that had bulk to go with the wiry muscle that all demons had, and spoke with all the thunderous command that came with being the Captain-General.

"Find someone that can explain this to me."

"Dragons give no orders in Hubur. This is the land of demons."

"This dragon does. Explain this."

"No. No explain. You explain!"

Godfrey refused. They had clearly meant to trap him as a statue, but why? Why would they go so far as to break the truce so stupidly? They weren't going to get anything with him petrified; there were still dozens of paladins in Mahoro, though they were leaderless and scattered. Merely trapping him would break the truce, and they would be forced to deal with a new war.

What had changed?

The demons hissed, some in anger, some in fear. He pulled against his chains, and their cries grew louder as he nearly broke one of them. The larger leader rushed away, nothing more than a red blur as he disappeared down a tunnel.

A tunnel...underground, then.

He was in a cave, somewhere quite different from his cottage. Godfrey struggled to remember the layout of Hubur and the border. There were mountains all along the border, which had been a great benefit to the demons as they were able to descend from the heights while his paladins had been forced to climb up to their defenses. He and his men had been given cottages along the mountainsides, meant for easy check-ins by the other side, but if he had been stolen away -

There were no caves near his home, which meant that either magic was at work, or he had been stolen away by diggers that had cut the earth beneath the cottage while he slept. Either way, he was deeper in enemy territory...and he didn't know how to get out.

Sagging in his restraints, Godfrey took a deep breath and forced himself to focus on the situation at hand. The demons had him imprisoned, but they could only keep him so long before the next check-in. They had a month in which they could try and do something to him, and if they failed, then they would need to face the consequences of their actions. Either they would have to kill him to keep from revealing what had happened, or they would need to wipe his memory to keep him from doing the same thing. Considering the legendary resistance that the Dragon Paladins had against demonic power, he imagined death was the far more likely fate for him.

And that, too, would bring problems to the demons. Someone had clearly decided that the risk of war was worth it for whatever this kidnapping was meant to achieve. But what could that be?

The low light of the chamber grew as the demon returned, bringing with him some red-robed figure with green-gray skin. The taller, four-armed newcomer was familiar, after a moment. Godfrey growled.

"Sorcerer."

"Ah, you remember my kind," the veiled man said, chuckling. "I half-expected you to have forgotten our contributions to the war."

"I remember your blood sacrifices."

"Ah, the good old days."

"You slaughtered entire villages."

"We've come a long way since then. There are other ways to feed the fires of Hubur and gain strength."

"All equally horrifying, I'm sure."

"That drastically depends on your point of view."

As the Sorcerer gestured at the other demons, sending them away, Godfrey did his best to keep his own anger from overwhelming him. The Sorcerers had been one of the greatest threats to his paladins. While he and his had been protected from the worst of their horrors by the divine power they channeled, the Sorcerers had found ways to keep fighting back. Whether it was through sacrificing their own for blood power or through warping the land when they couldn't warp the paladins directly, they had done many things to hurt others. He knew that there were many in his ranks that had been unable to even see the color red after what the Sorcerers had done.

He'd thought that they'd destroyed themselves with the few remaining being disbanded, but apparently there was still at least one working for the demon lords. Godfrey clenched his fists as the demon stepped closer.

"So, you're the one that kidnapped me."

"Yes. Do keep up."

"I'm keeping up better than you think. You stole me out from under my cottage. Then I'm probably not too far from it. Perhaps two miles."

"Oh, so the great lug does have a mind."

"I could escape this. I am strong enough for that."

"Mmm, perhaps. I have enchanted the chains more than sufficiently to handle the average paladin, but it is possible that the great Captain-General might be stronger than his men. Certainly, he is made of sterner stuff to resist the spell just now."

That confirmed that they were trying things on his men. He stiffened as the Sorcerer chuckled, that veil shifting side to side as the demon shook his head.

"Yes, yes, that's what I thought. You weren't trying to escape. You were striving for answers. Quite the pathetic reason to put yourself at risk."

"A paladin's life is sacrifice."

"Then allow me to sacrifice yours to the greater good."

"Hmmph. What does a demon know of 'good'?"

"Well, good for me, at least."

"That is hardly the same thing."

"No...I suppose not."

The Sorcerer chuckled, stepping away from the plinth and leaning against the wall. Despite the fact that the demon was dressed and the dragon was not, Godfrey felt no shame. There was none to be felt. He was not aroused, nor did he feel anything but anger at being held like this. A lesser man in the hands of one of the Sorcerers might have felt something, but...

No, no, that was not him. He was the Captain-General, and he would do his duty.

"Where are my men?" he asked. "What did you do with them?"

"We'll get to that in a moment. Perhaps you might want to hear what we want with you in the first place?"

"...Why would you tell me?"

"Oh, mostly because my underlings were incompetent. They tried to seal you away and skipped far too many steps. And perhaps, if you know what is happening, you'll realize it may be in your best interests to help me."

"The Captain-General, help a demon? A Sorcerer?"

"It's a long shot, but you never know," the four-armed demon said. "But you cannot deny your curiosity. It is written all over your face."

"Forgive me. I am not practiced in deception, like your people."

"Perhaps you should have given it a try. Perhaps you might have realized the great lie that your king believed."

"...I never believed you."

"Ah, is this something about how truth knows when itself is absent or some platitude like that?"

"Perhaps."

The Sorcerer's veil twitched in an obvious smile, and Godfrey bit off one of his own. The Tiger King had been all too proud of his treaty, and despite all messengers that the paladins had sent to beg him to reconsider his stance, he had refused to back down. As the first of his line on the throne, doubtless the Tiger King wanted to set up a legacy for himself, something that set him apart from the other rulers of Mahoro, but this was not the way to do it. They had sacrificed a full victory for a treaty that had barely lasted six months before this deliberate shredding of the damn thing, and now...

Now, the kingdom was all but defenseless, unless someone got a message back to them. Godfrey clenched his fists.

"Tell me what you're doing, then. And then I will leave."

"And leave your men behind?"

"..."

"Heh, we both know how you work, Captain-General. You say that you want the information and nothing more, but we know that you will never leave until you know what has happened to all of the other hostages."

"...They were guaranteed -"

"To be left alone? In peace? Perhaps the demon lords meant it; a fraction have always been too...restrained for proper rulership. But my people, the Sorcerers? We knew how close we were to victory. If you'd taken just a few more months to pull yourselves together, we would have won."

"But you didn't."

"Mmm, only because of you. But there are ways around that. You and your leaders are all on our side of the border, now, alone and soon to be helpless. And with a little shift -"

"What are you planning?" he asked again.

"Mmm, yes, I did say I'd tell you. Let me see, where to begin?"

The mix of gloating glee and smirking superiority pouring off the Sorcerer was getting to him, but not as much as the odd aura that the demon was putting off. It was different to the heated corruption that the average demon oozed just by being in the same room with someone else. The Sorcerer put off something else, something that was less corruptive to the body and more something that reached out to the mind and soul. Godfrey strained for the divine power, flooding his limbs with that heat, that comfortable, divine heat, and held tight to it with all his might.

As the four-armed Sorcerer stepped behind him, he felt the elegant, slender fingers of the demon touching him, stroking along his bare stomach up to his chest, running along his hips. They could have done far more than merely stroked him, but they were something else, something teasing, almost more like an exam than a full molestation. He didn't know what to do with that, and there were tingles that emanated out from the touch-points, places where his scales momentarily turned red before he was able to force them back to blue.

"Do you know what the Dragon Paladins are?" the Sorcerer asked.

"We are warriors of the divine. We reach out to the world of the pure, the perfect, and so, we can stand up to your corruption. We can endure it because we channel what you always wanted, and can never be."

"Mmm, half-right, but I suppose that your order never could admit just what you have become."

"Enlighten me, then."

"I plan to." The Sorcerer brought two of his hands further down, forming a circle around either side of Godfrey's cock. "Such a pity that you and yours were so dead-set on being so 'moral.' It would have been quite a bit more interesting to have you on our side, with bodies like this."

"Explain. Now."

"Mmm, I am, I am. You see, you haven't reached out to the divine, per se. Hubur is not hell, and there is no such place. There could never be, not without dying, and if one had to die to reach it, how would the dead return? No, no, there is no such place, and so, lacking a hell, why would there be a heaven for the divine to occupy?

"If you follow such logic, then there is no means for one to reach for the divine. However, there may be ways to reach for other things. We Sorcerers have debated time and time again just what you reached out for, and in the end, I believe I've come to a proper theory."

"Mmph...and what's that, you foul creature?"

"Magic. Pure magic, rather than what we have. The opposite side of the coin, so to speak, the magic that we do not channel."

"Mmmph...it is not magic."

"It is, actually. Quite powerful, too, otherwise you would be a squirming mess, begging for me or one of the other demons to take you, break you, turn you into nothing more than the writhing masses of flesh that occupy the pleasure pits over the mountains. You remember those, I'm sure."

"..."

"Yes, yes, I know you do. Even some of your Order were tempted by them, considering the things that they would do. There were no limits among the flesh pits, nothing to stop you from doing the most depraved thing. It is one thing to hold back when something causes someone nothing but pain, but when you know that they enjoy it, when they beg you to hurt them, to even kill them for your pleasure, it is something else again, isn't it?"

"It would have been a mercy to slaughter those corrupted souls."

"A mercy, but not for them."

Godfrey gritted his teeth as the demon's fingers moved yet closer to his crotch, the fingers so low, teasing near his sac while the thumbs pressed against the base of his shaft. It was like a cock ring of cool flesh against his groin, pulling it up, wagging his cock up and down. The sensation was so strange, so pleasant and yet unpleasant at the same time.

He could feel the demon's corruption, too, the red robes pressing against his back as that aura pressed closer to him. It sent shivers up and down his spine, and he barely held back from grunting and pushing the Sorcerer with his tail. The demon's other two arms were running up his chest, pressing against his pecs, and he could feel the constant shift in blue and red, blue and red along his muscles.

"But back to the point at hand. Your magic - and the magic of all the other paladins - is our opposite. It's why our power couldn't affect you to the same extent; we are the same. It repels each other. It's why you could fix what we did, but not fight us. Not the same way."

"Coincidence. Our power was meant to heal, to defend, not to -"

"Now, now, don't be coy..."

Godfrey gritted his teeth as the demon squeezed his cock and balls, not to the point of pain, but as a reminder of just what he could do. There was a sense of heat down there, too, other magics, rippling up and down his shaft and leaving him hissing as there was a different sort of tingle down there. He growled, shaking his head as the tingles ran up his spine with images of naked females beneath him, and worse, and forced the power of the divine - it had to be the divine - through his shaft. It burned the other heat again, but a tingle remained, as well as a hint of hardness.

"You lie," Godfrey growled.

"I tell no lies. I don't need to. But I could. I could tell you exactly what you want to hear about how the divine has blessed you and abandoned us. How we were made less and you are the divine force meant to smite us, punish us for the misdeeds that the great and powerful divine has judged us for. I could tell you that you and your paladins were the mortal fists meant to shatter us so that the divine did not shatter the world. Would that make you feel better, hmm? To hear those same comforting lies that you told yourself?"

"Nnngh..."

"Or would you prefer to hear the truth, paladin? Would you prefer to hear the truth, and know what lies ahead for you and yours?"

"...Tell me your version of the truth, then..."

It had to be a lie, but regardless of whether it was or wasn't, he needed to know what was happening to his comrades. He had to know what the demons planned, and how the Sorcerer meant to survive the purge that would come after news of this got out. They had tried to turn him into a statue, and now, they were molesting him. That couldn't be the whole of the plan. That gave the demons nothing.

So, what did they want?

As the Sorcerer chuckled in his ear, he was forced to fight a battle on two fronts. He not only had to keep the taunts and teases of the 'truth' from breaking his will, but he had to ignore the constant strokes of his cock and the way that the other hands pressed and pushed at his chest, always in contact, always tingling, always forcing him to feel that different, odd heat that made him want -

No, that made him think that he wanted more. He was the Captain-General. He could resist.

But it was difficult, particularly as those slender fingers continued to stroke up and down, tugging on his balls and teasing his shaft until that slight bit of hardness started to grow. He gritted his teeth, groaning and huffing through it, focusing on the inner fire as much as he could as the Sorcerer continued.

"The power that you and yours carry is quite strong, and, indeed, quite a barrier for us...but there are ways for it to be turned to our purposes. After all, despite the fact that your magic is our opposite, it's still magic, and it's still something that we can touch...if we take the right steps.

"For example, imagine if we were able to take one of you, corrupt you. Bring you down, break you of your paladin codes. A little bit of teasing, a little bit of nudging you to think the way that we need you to think. Nothing to outright break your paladin oaths, but enough to make you wonder about things...to adjust your thinking...to tweak that morality of yours...

"How long do you think it would take before the urge to maintain order would change, becoming something that was more selfish...more interested in warping things to the way you wanted it?"

"We...will not...become demons..."

"Of course not. That would defeat the purpose. But you don't have to. Just a little fall. A little slide. And then, all that essence of yours..."

"Essence?"

"Mmm, look down, oh Captain-General."

He did, and he immediately regretted it. His cock had finally reached full erection, standing out full and hard in front of him, and worse, the base was ringed with red runes. He tried to bring his focus down to it, but the demon's hands were too swift. They wrapped around the base of his cock, while one - wet with sweat or more - pressed right against the head of his shaft. Braced, anchored, it started...polishing.

"NNNGH!"

The relentless rubbing of his shaft against the palm of the Sorcerer's hand left him with too much pleasure to deal with. He had been a chaste man, barely touching himself at the worst of times, and often less than that. The assault on the head of his cock was more than he knew how to deal with. He tried to bend forward, but the Sorcerer forced him to stand. He tried to push the demon away, but there was no leverage for him to do that. All he could do was take it, and he screamed as his cock was stroked and rubbed and 'polished' with the hand cupped right around the head, grinding over his sensitive tip with that soft, smooth, almost frictionless surface over and over again.

"NNGH! Let me go! Let me go!"

"Not yet..."

The sadistic touch of the Sorcerer pushed him to the point of pleasurable pain almost instantly, leaving him screaming at the rough handling of his cock. Stroke, squeeze, rub. Stroke, squeeze, polishing wetness against the head of his oversensitive shaft. He could feel his balls rising, falling, rising -

"NNNGH!"

He thought he was cumming, but no. No satisfaction, nothing of the sort. It was only pre-cum, only a hissing, spitting line of it, and yet, that seemed to be enough. The demon stopped his ministrations, pulling his hand back, and the silvery line of fluid dangled from between his fingers.

"This...this is your essence, Captain-General," the Sorcerer said. "And this...contains the power that we need."

"You...are insane..."

"Mmm, please, keep thinking that. It will make it all the easier to dig into your head and make the changes I need to."

Godfrey groaned as the demon pulled back, but the red ring of runes around his cock refused to fade. Even as he called on the power of the divine, even as he pushed the heat of it down into his groin, all he could do was make the runes glow brighter. They didn't fade, they didn't shift, and his cock...

His cock refused to go down. Something had happened to it, and he could see the fingerprints of the demon still on it, all over it, marking it and fouling it. He winced, shaking his head and looking away.

"Perhaps you'd like to see what happened to someone that didn't take to the corruption properly, hmm?" the Sorcerer asked.

"..."

"I'll take that as a yes."

As the Sorcerer snapped his fingers, a scrying spell opened in mid-air. Godfrey looked despite himself, and his jaws dropped.

It was one of the other paladins, a younger dragon named Malfor. He'd been a lieutenant in the group, one of the youngest of the hostages. Godfrey had held many hopes for the young man before the treaty had been made, and had still assumed that he'd make something of himself when the hostages could eventually be traded back.

Now, he was nothing more than a statue, standing with one leg in the air, his cock hard, a hole that looked like it had been filled just before he had been transformed so it gaped for all eternity.

The dragon statue had a demon behind it, a finger inside of that gaped pucker and rubbing something inside. A silvery string of pre-cum oozed from the aroused shaft, dripping into a waiting bucket. The demons touched the slime, only to snarl and throw it away.

"That one broke too fast," the Sorcerer said. "He is nothing more than a decoration now, though a well-loved one. You, on the other hand, and the other paladins...we plan on turning into a power source. Your essence, corrupted sufficiently to allow us to touch it, will empower our spells. All the strength that we threw at Mahoro before you stood to fight us will be doubled, and this time, there will be nothing in our way to stop us."

"You...you..."

"I told you. We have been experimenting, finding other ways to empower ourselves. Blood was certainly a tool in the past, but your essence, the essence of the greatest of the paladins, will do far more than mere blood ever did. Congratulations, Captain-General. By the time the next official check-in comes around, you will be fueling our greatest weapons against your own people."

"Nnngh...never..."

"We shall see. But considering how hard you are...I wouldn't hold your breath."

The Sorcerer chuckled, snapping his fingers again. The portal disappeared, and then, so did he. The pale gray-green demon all but slithered down one of the tunnels, leaving Godfrey alone with his thoughts and his bobbing erection.

Minutes passed, and his erection refused to die. No matter his thoughts, no matter what meditations he summoned, it continued to bounce and throb and beg for attention. His arms, tied over his head, couldn't break the chains without taking his attention from his cock, and he was terrified that if he brought his fires from his shaft to his limbs, he would somehow curse himself further.

I must...I must...

It was a month until the next visit. If he could hold out against the transformation that long, then the demons would be doomed. Hubur would be in breach of the treaty, and even the Tiger King would have to act. So long as he could hold out, he could...

But what about his men?

What if they were already taken?

What if he was the last one to be broken?

What if, if he didn't escape now, he doomed everyone?

Godfrey lowered his head with a frustrated groan. There were too many questions and not enough answers.

The End
