#1 of The Starry Field Herd (shorts)

Dylan and Dalia are driving back from a party and come across a pretty interesting scene.

Dylan was beyond satisfied as he left New Steppe that night. After hyping up an all-afternoon party.

The dark green chubby water buffalo, with straight black hair, a goatee, and a fancy cap on his head, calmly drove a red car as he left that beautiful city behind.

Beside him, in the passenger seat, was Dalia. A black cow, also chubby, with a white snout and shoulder-length red hair, who was fiddling with her phone. She was the only friend who could accompany him on that occasion.

In the trunk were his DJ gear, and on the doubled road ahead, there was a decent flow of vehicles, since it was still early in the evening.

Dalia: Well... I've already posted the photos.

Dylan: Great. I'll share them later.

Dalia: Heh. It was fun there. People knew how to celebrate.

Dylan: Yeah... Thanks for the company.

Dalia: You know I don't miss a party.

Dylan: True.

It didn't take long for them to see the entrance that would take them back to the Audacity Valley, but before they could even enter that route, sirens could be heard and lights flashed as three police cars pulled out.

Dalia: What the...

Dylan: Sounds serious.

Dalia: Will Dawn need the car tonight?

Dylan: Not that I know.

Dalia: So let's just go. The gossip beckons.

Dylan couldn't help but smile a little as he slightly sped up the car to keep up with all the noise.

But soon, the police cars stopped at a small gas station. A rather fancy one in fact, with a convenience store that looked brand new. The fuss seemed to capture the attention of everyone there, from employees to the few customers.

And among them, there was someone who was on the verge of a nervous breakdown. A middle-aged doe, with orange fur and short blond hair, which was clutching the hand of a similarly colored fawn, that was frightened. Tears clearly trickled down his face as he held up a bag of snacks they must had just bought.

The police force really was from the Valley, because the first one to get out of one of the cars was Thais, a caramel lab who still was quite young, with brown hair tied in a ponytail. She was a little short, but managed to be imposing in her own way.

Thais: Ma'am... I just want to talk to you. About the infractions you committed.

Doe: I didn't do anything wrong.

Thais: These are the words of four people against yours. There's even more, if you count the police officers at the blitz you speeded trough, and your ex-husband, who wants to see his son.

Doe: As if I was going to let that asshole...

The fawn tried to say something, but Dylan couldn't hear it clearly from the car. Still, that was enough to make his mother squeeze his hand even more, and start to walk away.

Thais: Ma'am... Ma'am?!

Now she was running, towards the outskirts of the gas station, as her car was probably blocked by the police. But when she reached the edge, she came across a cliff, and realized she had nowhere to go, since everyone was surrounding her.

Within two minutes, the police force was already leaving with both deers. Dylan decided to follow them back to the Valley.

Dalia: Did you record that too?

Dylan: Of course. Charlie will love to see this.

Dalia: Right. I already sent it to the Sanctuary's group. But why didn't he come with us today?

Dylan: Oh... He asked Tom to help with his movie script. So they had to work on it all afternoon.

Dahlia: Oh, ok. This one is promising then.

Dylan: Heh. Sure.

She then looked once more at the phone screen, and was pleasantly surprised.

Dalia: Chiclet just said that this doe caused a fuss at the pizzeria.

Dylan: That explains a lot.

And with that, they arrived home calmly, with a good story to tell.
