*Four years later*

Hannah flicked her blonde hair out of her face. She was sixteen years old, in grade eleven. She had Caucasian skin, with blonde hair and piercing green eyes. Though possessing almost no muscle on the outside, she was remarkably fierce when it came to soccer.

It was the boring old drone of another school day at Sullivan Heights Secondary in Surrey, British Colombia, Canada. Except this was different. The high school semester was ending, with a new one around the corner. This was an invited change. New courses, new teaches, new classes with her friends, a list that now recently included a guy named Mattheiu.

He had transfered into her grade seven class at Sullivan Heights Elementary. Never really fitting in, Mattheiu had shown an early knack for the sciences. Whether it be chemistry or biology, he had a good amount of knowledge in the subject. His most knowledge, however, lied in the field of genetics, mainly the field of human-reptilian DNA crosses. Like her, he had absolutely no indication of his actual strength on his outer appearance. And yet, in grade nine, he took on Rodney, the lead grade ten football player quarterback, and won. Mattheiu sent him packing with bruised ribs, a sprained ankle and a broken nose.

However, he was endlessly kind. He never discriminated against anybody, helping anyone that needed help. Mattheiu just seemed to be content sitting in the shadows, sometimes literally. During a power outage, he gave up his seat near a window for another student, sitting in the dark, trying to read a book.

Hannah found the place that her and her group of friends usually ate lunch at and sat down. As time progressed into lunch, her group began to build up. The topic of the day was final exams, with everyone worrying or fretting about a small detail. Hannah was worried about her Socials eleven course,

"I mean, the teacher never taught us that topic!" She said, worried that it would be her downfall on the test. "It's not like I can know it just like that."Hannah snapped her fingers.

"It's not that you didn't learn it. It's because you didn't pay attention."

Hannah turned to see Mattheiu holding a cafeteria tray. As usual, he was cool and in control, never worried about anything. He sat down beside her.

"Here." He handed Hannah a binder. "Copy my notes if you need to."

The two spent the rest of lunch trying to learn (or in Mattheiu's case, relearn) about Canada Bonds in World War One.

There was a flash followed by an explosion as the energy ball leaped off of Marissa's hand and impacted on the target.

"Very good Marissa!" The instructor commented. "I'll be sure to make note of your progress today. Class is dismissed."

Marissa, now sixteen, flexed her harpy wings. They were completely covered in purple feathers. She just noticed how the complimented her blue skin. She ran up to her dorm room to clean up before the next class began.

Searching through her dresser drawers, she came across something that pushed her to the edge of tears: a long shaft wrapped in cloth. She took it out and unwrapped them on her bed. Two claymores laid before her, the hilts covered in gold leaf trimmings. She took one, unsheathing it, admiring the liquid-like, black ebony blade. A piece of paper fell out of the sheath and she picked it up.

It was a picture of her previous life as Sunset the dragoness. She had her arm wrapped around her mate, Lacyus, against the background of a ocean. Tears ran down her cheeks at the thought of the happy memory. She couldn't help but smile at the memory of his scent, his kindness, his overall presence. Then she stopped. The gaping void in the back of her mind where Lacyus should have been reopened. It was too much. Marissa turned around and gasped when she saw her roommate, Sakura looking at her.

"I see you had a mate." Sakura said sympathetically. "Where is he now?"

"He's gone." Marissa whispered. "He was swallowed up by a portal."

Sakura seemed to adopt the same depressed demeanor. "I see. You're a shapeshifter right?"

Marissa nodded meekly. "My old name was Sunset. My parents gave me that name because my scale colorings were in the sunset."

Suddenly, Sakura's eyes lit up. "I think I can help you!"

She grabbed Marissa's hand and pulled her down the stairs. The two ran across the field of the Mage's Guild University to the experimental labs. There, new spells were devised, as well as potions and augmentations for weapons. Sakura pulled Marissa inside and down several flights of stairs. They finally ended up in the portal lab.

"Professor!" Sakura called. "I've got a volunteer!"

An older wolf Xeno emerged from behind some crates. "Ahh, excellent, excellent. Come here." He gestured to Marissa. "I'm Professor Cronos, director of portal centers for the Mage's Guild." He had a thick German accent on his voice. He began leading them through a series of halls towards the main portal chamber

Marissa stepped forward, noting all of the magic arrays drawn on the walls. "How is this going to help me Sakura?"

"We are going to use a prototype link portal to send you to Earth. It's most likely where your mate ended up." Sakura explained, handing a pendant necklace to Marissa.

Marissa took it by the string, holding it up to the light. A clear white stone glittered, embedded in a pair of silver wings. "How's this going to help me?"

"Touch the crystal."

She did and it instantly turned purple.

"It will contain the animal part of your DNA when you transfer into earth. If you just focus on the harpy or whatever side of you, the DNA will become active and you would become a Xenomorph again."

Marissa put it around her neck as then entered the main portal chamber. On the ground, a large portal array was drawn. "This is what will get me there?"

"Yeah. Most portals enter Earth at a city named Surrey. It's located in a place called British Colombia, a province of the country Canada. You'll find that the dominant species humans, which you'll become, are very frail. Your body won't be able to take very much punishment before you black out, so keep that in mind if you try anything." Sakura explained. "They're also very violent. Our agents have been reporting numerous wars between different factions. The two most recent ones include the 'Afgani War' and the 'Iraq liberation war.'"

Marissa listened intently, taking in each and every fact. However the back of her mind was squealing in excitement.

'I'm gonna see Lacyus again!' was the only thought that mattered.

"On the the other side of the portal, you will be met by two agents posing as a human married couple. They are Ally and Jacob Hendrick. They'll pose as your parents as you search for your mate. Do you understand?" Sakura asked.

"Yes!" Marissa said, nodding enthusiastically.

"Stand in the middle of the array please." The professor directed. Marissa moved to the center.

The professor and Sakura, standing at the edge of the array, knelt down and touched their palms to it, starting it up. A howling wind picked up in the room

"Good luck! Best wishes to you and your search Ms. Marissa!" The professor called over the wind. He disapeared.

Marissa was left alone, standing in a white, blank room when the thought crossed her mind.

Prototype. The portal wasn't tested yet. That could be bad. Marissa felt a burning sensation in her legs. She looked down to see them disapearing into dust. She fell down, suddenly afraid. The same was happening to her arms.

Marissa screamed as she felt the whole universe shoved down her throat.

Mattheiu sat, writing furiously. He was running out of time for the essay section of his Social Studies Eleven. And he was rapidly running out of ideas as well. Suddenly he stopped.

In the back of his mind, there was a small flicker in the area where Sunset should have been telepathically. He forcefully shoved it out of his head, but it came back, stronger than before. Mattheiu shook his head.

'I'm loosing it. Maybe I should just accept it that I'm not going home.' Mattheiu wiped the rapidly forming tears out of his eyes.

And yet, there was a comforting presence in the back of his mind. The presence even had it's own name.

Marissa.
