#1 of Around the Bend

The otter walked to the edge of the sixty-three floor skyscraper and stretched, breathing in the late afternoon air of the big city. He scanned the streets below, watching the furs busy themselves with pointless errands until a beep came from the earpiece he was wearing. He raised a black paw to turn it on.

"Yeah." he said blatantly to the caller.

"And hello to you too." an older males voice retorted. The otter smiled, turning to the side and sitting down in a chair he had set up at the edge of the building.

"I wouldn't be getting a call from you if you just wanted to chat." the otter said, reaching down to open a briefcase next to the chair. "So this must mean we have movement."

"We do. Target's leaving that pizza place off of Fourth and Bell moving south." The otter leaned closer to the briefcase to start assembling the contents. "ETA is around a minute and a half. I'll tell you when he's about thirty seconds from visualization." The otter leaned back into his seat, a rifle in is paws. He set the barrel on the small wall around the building's edge and looked into the sight.

"Got it. I'll have a dot on him the moment he comes into view." The otter looked up, quickly spotting his partner flying a few blocks away. "And fly higher, I could hit you with a slingshot from here." The voice on the other end laughed.

"I'd love to see you try. But good point. Not like I won't see as well, seeing as I'm a-"

"I know, I know. 'Cuz you're a dragon. Stop trying to make me jealous. It aint gonna work." the otter cut him off before he could finish. "Speaking of superiority, where's the target?" There was a pause.

"Should be in your sight now." The otter shifted the gun a bit to confirm. And there he was, walking down the sidewalk with his personal guard. The target was a tiger, larger than most with an empire that was even bigger. "God he looks like he has money."

"And when he's dead, we get a big ass part of it." the otter said as he took careful aim, turning the safety off and loading a bullet by pushing the bolt forward. For a split second a red dot appeared on the tiger, giving him a slight waring his life was about to end.

And there was nothing he could do about it.

Around the Bend

Part I

No one had predicted anything close to what nature had sent them. Rain fell relentlessly, causing every fur on campus to run for shelter, whether it be in their dorms, the library, or the main office. Class had ended early due to the downpour, and soon a flood warning was issued. Doors were shut, windows were treated likewise and there was no life to be seen wandering the college grounds of Maryland State College of Technology. All except for one. The otter was dressed in just a simple cloak with a hood, his tail trailing behind him as he ran up the stairs to the dorm he was headed for, only steps away from dry shelter. The doors burst open as he ran inside dripping from head to tail and panting. He leaned over a bit trying to catch his breath, water dripping on the floor and creating a puddle. Removing his hood revealed a young otter, barley over twenty. His headfur was tied into a ponytail at the base of his neck, a Hello Kitty charm hanging from the tie. He had earings in both ears, three silver studs in his left ear and a single stud in the right. Glasses rested upon his muzzle giving him the cute librarian look. He shook his head violently and stood up straight to look at his surroundings.

He was in the lobby, which was basically a wide hall with a few couches on the left with a TV and on the right, some chairs around a table. At the far end, a lone elevator and a snack machine. A few Furs were sitting at both locations with nothing else to do except to wait out the storm. The fox gazed nervously around, aware of the stares some furs were giving him. Apparently they weren't used to cloaks. The otter lowered his gaze and quickly walked across the lobby to the elevator, not wanting to stay much longer. He pressed the call button and again after a few seconds, he started to nervously look back at the other furs even though they stopped looking at him. He began mouthing words to himself when the elevator doors opened up. Stepping inside, he kept his gaze low and pressed the fourth floor button continuously until the doors closed.

When the doors opened again, the otter was on the fourth floor. The floor consisted of a hall with doors on either side. A slight ruffle of cloth was heard as the otter started to walk quickly down the hallway, eventually stopping at room fifteen.
