Rebecca watched the phone screen and waited. Silence. Her open question about swapping shifts with another performer went unanswered. Either everyone wasn't looking at their phones or no-one was able to meet her request. Both potentialities pissed her off. In a sullen mood, she threw herself onto her bed.

"Ugh!"

She turned over, her t-shirt catching between her body and the bed, causing her to twist harder. Once friction gave way, she slumped, her back burying into the sheets, bushy tail poking from between her legs and dangling over the edge.

"Gotta schedule your week ahead of time," she huffed, sardonically mimicking one of the many routine e-mails on timekeeping, "gotta give enough notice if you need to reschedule..."

The collie thought about talking to Violet, going over the heads of her coworkers. Bit rude, but in the moment she didn't care. Her paws fumbled with the smartphone, fingers tapping, until she had a change of heart.

"Can't have everything in life, my girl..."

She knew Vi wouldn't take well to her asking. The frequency of her requests was bound to piss her boss off - even if Violet wouldn't' say such a thing out loud.

"If only she weren't such a skinny human bitch - she might see things my way!" Rebecca snarled to herself, her words dotted with self-doubt regarding her own irateness. Another few seconds passed. She hissed. Then breathed, slowly regaining her cool. Her tail twitched a couple times as her natural excitability emerged.

It's not my fault I get bored.

Her monologue now turning inward, Rebecca began the one thing she hated about working at Violetta: the wait. Before she was due to go to the club, she had to make sure she'd done her household chores - cooking for one, cleaning for one, paying bills for one - but once all the required tasks of managing your own apartment had been completed, there was nothing left except the wait.

Booo-ring!

She could fill her time with side-work. She had any number of horny subscribers at her fingertips, desperate for a moment's contact filled with parasocial teasing. Snap-X was her favoured site, for its ease of use and professional reputation, though she maintained profiles elsewhere on the Internet. Rebecca made enough money on there to top up her wages and tips from Violetta to splurge every now-and-again, and for a young hybrid with sexy sexy dollar-signs in her eyes the promise of full independence and setting her own hours appealed enormously to her.

Texting her clientele? Sure, she could spend some time doing that. And she did - a few personal messages, some saucy pictures. Things she could do quickly, without bringing all that time pressure from having to leave the apartment in a couple hour's time. Customers could be so demanding, and she didn't feel too pushed to start a private stream that would inevitably devour all the time available.

Unfortunately that meant her boredom would return.

She pondered a remedy to her ennui. After several minutes of hard thinking, with the agony of nothingness creeping through her mind, she decided that simply getting up and going to work was the solution. This would be one of the rare times she showed up early, rather than fashionably late.

After changing clothes, she clicked open the latch on her apartment door and took one last look around her abode before grabbing her purse and phone.

Outside the main entrance to Violetta, the collie was greeted by Heather - the tall, muscular doberman bouncer's imposing presence a shield 'gainst any unwanted guests or folks trying to smuggle themselves inside without payment or proof of age. Crossed black-brown arms over a plain shirt, the fizzling low-volume static of a walkie-talkie clipped to her belt - equal parts night watchman (or woman) and presidential security detail. All she needed to complete the look were a pair of jet-black sunglasses.

Sure, sounds cool. But at night...?

The anthro guard dog nodded her head at her fellow canine. A rough grunting acknowledgement of her as friend escaped from deep within her chest. It became intelligible just as she stepped in front of the door:

"Hey Becca."

"Sup babe," she replied, blowing a kiss.

Heather stifled a groan and moved aside to let her in. Rebecca's attempts at charming her were frequent, but lacked something to give it oomph.

"You're early."

Rebecca stuck out her tongue as she walked past. Heather responded with a heavy smack on her ass - causing the collie to yelp, then glower at her colleague.

"What? You wanted flirty, I gave you flirty."

The sting of Heather's broad palm on her rear lay at the forefront of her mind as she confronted the larger canine.

"Flirty yes. Handsy no."

"What's the difference?"

"Duh!" Rebecca said, grabbing Heather's wrist and wiggling the offending arm around, "touching's gonna cost something."

"Like what?"

"Dunno. Use your imagination babe."

As she spoke, Rebecca closed the gap between them. Her body, shorter than Heather's, met the big dog's bulk and pressed tight. Two hands slipped around the taller hybrid's waist and ran over her firm cheeks, trapped beneath trouser-fabric. The pair smiled as they felt each other, Heather chose to be conservative with her embrace and wrapped her arms around Rebecca's shoulders, bringing the collie's head to just above her cleavage. A short sigh and a moment of silence gave them time to fall into one another's gaze. Sinking into dreamy eyes on a moonlit night.

"There," Rebecca said abruptly, breaking the sensual hug, "now we're even."

"That's what you call a fair trade, huh?" Heather smiled as she drank in her appearance. "You show up early, almost naked, giving me bedroom eyes as soon as I see you...girl could be mistaken for thinking you wanted to distract me from my duties..."

At Heather's mention, Rebecca took stock of her outfit. A lot of bare leg, arm, and chest. For a cold, damp night like this she seemed underdressed. Fur only did so much after all.

"...or did you forget your coat or something?" Heather continued, prompting a snort from her friend.

"It's a strip club, honeybuns."

"I know dum-dum, you're supposed to charge for the privilege." Her familiar jabs were met with a chuckle, and mood remained cordial. "Don't let Violet see you shaking your stuff without receipts!"

"Hehe! She'd only be jealous of my good looks and charm."

"Good looks maybe..."

"And charm! Don't forget how charming I can be."

Heather laughed and patted her on the shoulder. "Becca, Becca, Becca...your so cute when you're angry."

Rebecca smiled and swatted at Heather, feigning fury.

"Um," she said with a tentative jitter in her voice, "now that you mention it, is the boss in?"

"I think so." Heather glanced inside the half-open door out of habit, then the empty parking lot, surveying their quiet surroundings. The anthro bouncer paused, then sighed. "If you want to quit, just say it to her."

"What?"

"You know what I mean. If you want to stop working at the club and go solo doing online gigs don't let me stop you. Or anyone else. You don't need to string Violet along with this whole 'will-she-won't-she' crap."

Rebecca stayed silent, trying to formulate a response.

"We're your friends, Becca," Heather continued, "remember that."

"Well yeah. I know. But like, it's hard to leave this behind," she gestured at the club, it's bland exterior punctuated by a handful of small neon signage bearing enough plausible deniability to soothe the self-doubting shame-ridden egos of their more paranoid clientele.

"The money's good, yeah?"

"Yeah...but..."

"You want things to be more flexible."

Rebecca nodded. Heather shrugged.

"Then if you're comfortable with leaving to do your own thing go ahead. We're still here. We can hang out. It's not like there would be bad blood or anything. You're just more chill with showing off all of that sexy body online than the rest of us."

"I'm still thinking about it. Whether to go full-time as a camgirl."

"Well then you keep thinking. And hell, maybe you might convince some of the others to do it too."

"Maybe I already am."

Heather's ear flicked, a sliver of intrigue enriching her voice. "Oh? Who?"

"Shhhh," Rebecca hissed, mashing her finger to her lips in an over-exaggerated fashion, "that's my secret!"

She stepped into the doorway, leaving the night behind. Ahead, a shower of dark and dangerous passions, illuminated by deep blues, reds, purples, and pinks. Moody lighting and music, conjuring an exotic, otherworldly sensation - ready for her to dive in and be absorbed.

Looking over her shoulder, Rebecca jeered: "oh and quit giving me these heart-to-hearts like you're my mom, Heather!"

The soft dismissive chuckle of the doberman disappeared into the din of the club's soundscape as she ventured deeper.
