Um.. also, some things wont make sense in till later on so please bare with me with some knew things.

(Also, copyright @ all of the characters are my own and names as well. Light and Shadeians are of my own creation as well.)

Heartless Dragon

"Your family is the one that came over and attack us and caused all of us to go into hiding!"

Those were the words that made everyone in the room freeze.

Derek was just beyond astounded and Aurora couldn't believe what she just heard. It was quiet till another dragoness came into the room. Along with her were three little hatchlings standing by her side.

"Mother," she asked. "What is wrong?" Her eyes then went to Derek and Aurora. At first she didn't recognize who he was but then the smell and the familiar looks made her go happy with joy. But it quickly dropped when she saw the white dragoness and her mother in anger.

Derek saw his sister but kept his focus on Aurora. His mother was just beginning to lose her cool again.

"How dare you show your face after what your family did to us!" she said in a growl.

Aurorawas beyond fearful but also confused.

"I... I don't know what you are talking about. My family never worked with Shadeians... did they?"

Derek knew that Aurora was just a bit younger then him when the events of changed happen. He quickly stood in front of his mother and spoke.

"Mother, I don't believe that Aurora knew of this."

His mother stopped her growl but kept her glare.

"What makes you so sure?"

Derek thought for a moment before looking at Aurora.

"Well, she is a bit younger then me and I was no more then a hatchling back then when it happened. If I barely remember, then what makes you so sure that she being younger then I, she would remember? She wasn't even there at the time."

His mother looked over Aurora who was deep in thought for herself as she tried to recall the past. His mother still kept her glare but moved past her son and to Aurora.

Auroraregained her focus when she saw the slightly tall dragoness come over to her.

The glare still roamed in her face but she seemed tamed.

"I hope that your family told you the truth about what really happened."

Aurorajust shook her head.

"My... my mother just told me that some Shadeians killed my family. No other reason."

Derek's mother seemed a bit annoyed that they left everything else out but content that they didn't make up some lie.

She nodded and turned around.

"Well then. We will discuss this later on. For now, let us get inside. We don't want anyone to see you here and cause trouble."

Auroranodded and slowly followed her inside. Derek just sighed and walked to her. His sister was a bit confused by the situation. He gave a smile to her.

"Hello my dear sister." He said hugging her and kissing her forehead.

Mayle smiled and gave her brother a hug.

"Glad your back brother."

They hugged each other for a bit before Mayle looked to Aurora and Aurora looked back at her.

She was almost the exact same look as Derek's mother only younger and had the body of young athlete.

"Mayle," said Derek. "This is Aurora. She is my mate."

Mayle just smiled to Aurora and then to Derek.

"I can see now why mother wanted to kill her." She said in a joking manner.

Derek just gave her a small glare before he looked down to the hatchlings next to her.

"They yours?" he asked her.

Mayle looked down at them and shook her head.

"No. There our siblings."

Derek smiled and got down to a lower level to look at them. There was one male and two females.

"The male is Draco and the twin females are Ayra and Lyra." Said his sister.

Derek gave a chuckle and reached over to pick up his little brother.

"You guys named him after father."

Mayle dropped her smile and sighed.

"We had to."

Derek looked at her and saw the sadness that held in her heart.

"What do you mean you had to? Why would my father want to..." He stopped when he realized her sadness and remembering outside of the cave was the marking of a fallen family member.

He couldn't believe it. His father was dead!

When everyone was within the house cave, Aurora was still thinking of her past and Derek was hurt by the sudden news of his father.

The cave was well made into something out of a dream home. IT was well lit with lighting of fires on the walls. Several decorations of wall art, family treasures and some old vases were seen. The living room was big with large sofas and large television screen which seemed to be one of only the few technology in this house. The dinning table was a large wooden one with wooden chairs around it was everyone sat around it.

Derek's little siblings were playing around with some of their toys and unaware of the situation.

Derek sat next to Aurora and across from them was his mother, Ivea and Mayle.

His mother was thinking for a bit before she sighed and spoke.

"Aurora," she said, speaking calmly and avoiding her face. "What do you remember of your parents telling you of the day that your family was killed?"

Aurorawasn't fully comfortable taking about this but she had no choice.

"I... barely remember it. Every time I asked my mother what had happen, she would just tell me that Shadeians killed my aunts and uncles. I would ask why or how but they wouldn't say."

Ivea nodded and looked up.

"Do you really want to know the truth? Do you want to know why your family died?"

Auroraswallowed the lump in her throat and just spoke softly.

"I want to know... the truth."

Ivea sighed and looked at her.

"Your family was working along side me and my husband on a few government projects. We were both trying to find ways to deal with the Hellfires. Back then, it wasn't much of a problem as it is now. Our projects were mostly based on weapons and defenses for the soldiers."

She motioned to Derek. "I guess my son toke after me." she said with a light smile. Then she dropped her gaze and looked at Aurora.

"When we were assigned, we, meaning your family and mine, were assigned different projects, your family wasn't pleased that we got a better project then theirs.

When we finished ours, which were tests on smaller, nuclear arms, our advisors and government were completely impressed. Your parents weren't. They were outraged that our tests worked and were a success that they wanted to 'eliminate the competition'.

That very day when we received great rewards, we had a celebration at my home. That was the day your family decided to attack us."

She sighed and looked at Derek and Aurora now.

"My children were playing outside for the time being. When your aunts and uncle came, we thought they came here to congratulate us on a job well done but they didn't.

They only came to ruin us. At first they just started talking badly about us saying that we must have stolen an idea from someone or something. Then they began making treats telling us to leave or give up our next plans to them. Then it became violent."

She lowered her head and both Aurora and Derek were surprised to see a tear falling from her eye.

"I didn't realize at the time," she said in a sadden voice. "That Derek and Mayle were hiding in the closet. When your family got hostile with us, Derek was becoming angry and when Mayle started crying, he lost it."

Now she started crying a bit and Derek quickly walked over to her.

"Mother," he asked "Why are you crying?" Mayle too was by her but she knew what was about to happen.

His mother looked up at him.

"I'm so sorry son." She said in complete sadness. "I'm sorry that I hid the truth from you for so many years."

"What truth?" Derek asked, now becoming worried.

His mother just looked up at him and she spoke words that bore deep into his heart.

"You... killed... them... all."

A sudden gasp escaped from Aurora and Derek became wide eyed and he let go of his mother and stood back. His mother went back to crying and Mayle too had tears.

A dreadful silence had filled the room.

Derek too shocked to move and Aurora was suffering from an emotional overload.

It took some time before Derek spoke but with uncoordinated words.

"But... how? I couldn't have... I."

His mother just lowered her head.

"I'm sorry son but you did kill them and the way you did is by being a Black Heart. A sudden dread filled Derek as he suddenly recalled a major history lesson.

His mother and in school had once told of a legend. A legend that is rarely seen and is often told to hatchlings at night. A legend that predates technology and before the Great Ones who walked the earth and brought forth many more animals. A legend that was thought to be long gone.

This legend was called the "Legend of the Black Heart."

The Black Heart was a story of a Shadeian name Alvran who was born like a regular Shadeian and lived amongst his kind of dragons, they being the first on this planet.

He grew up like a normal Shadeian along with his beloved friend, a female light dragon. They grew up together and soon fell in love. However, another Light Dragon was jealous that the female was falling for a dragon not of her own kind and more importantly, him.

When they were to be mated, the Light Dragon, known as Azu, tried to attack him and claim the female. Alvran became angry and tried to fight back. But the Light Dragon was stronger then him during the day which most of the power light dragons got it from. Shadeians got most of their power at night in a full moon. So without Alvran knowing it, he grew stronger with anger and one night he saw that his mate was in great pain nearly tortured, he unleashed massive power and killed the Azu. This caused a sensation and soon, the two were being hunted, so they ran.

No one knew what happened to them but they knew that Alvran's mate bore him hatchlings. Nobody knows what their children looked like but some believed that Alvran's power was given to his children and had spread when they have found mates.

That was the legend or some part of it. Not all of it was fully realized or explained and now here he is, listening to his mother and being told that he is a Black Heart. A Shadeian with powers beyond any creature on earth.

He wanted to say something else but Aurora spoke out first.

"You killed my family?" she asked in a saddened voice.

Ivea just shook her head.

"No, not him, not by purpose."

Auroracouldn't stop staring at Derek. She was looking at the dragon that killed her family. The dragon she had worked with. The dragon that she had fallen in love with.

Ivea spoke a bit more.

"If I had known that my son was born a Black Heart, I would have kept him with me at all times."

Derek looked down at his mother.

"So... when did I.... become a Black Heart? When I was born or when I killed my mates family." He said in a dark voice.

Ivea couldn't help but look down and shook her head in despair.

"I'm sorry son but you were born a Black Heart. I didn't know of it but your father did."

Derek kept his dark gaze at his mother.

"How would he know?"

Ivea just sighed.

"Your grandsire was a Black Heart too. And then it was his mother who was a Black Heart. I don't know if it skips a generation or two but when you father told me, I was devastated. There were no known ways to stop you from unleashing your powers at a young age. So when you became angry, you would lose control of yourself and..."

She stopped, trying not to bring back the past.

Derek just seemed out of it. He didn't dare look back at Aurora for she probably hated him for every second she was looking at him.

It didn't end to well for Ivea just stood up and walked away to her room, leaving Derek, Aurora and Mayle.

Derek just looked down at the table, Aurora was looking away from everyone and Mayle was just as troubled as both of them.

Ever since she could remember of that awful night, it had haunted her everything she relives the gruesome scene of her brother tearing the dragons up. She had stopped crying when the dragons were killed and her brother passed out, but she was frightened beyond anything.

They had to leave but leaving Derek made her more scared. They were leaving him with a few friends so he could have a life here. She didn't want her brother to stay behind but she knew that he had to if he was to forget who he truly was. A Black Heart.

At this point on, the three younger siblings of Derek came running in and Draco jumped on his lap. This caught Derek by surprise and he looked down at his younger brother.

The child's happy smile suddenly brought him a smile.

The child spoke, still trying to learn.

"Ar... are you who?" He asked.

Derek just gave a small smile.

"I'm your brother."

Draco and his sisters looked at him.

"Brth...brt... bro...ter?"

Derek just nodded.

He looked down at his sisters and picked them up to his lap. The all so innocent children that had no clue what was happening made a smile appear.

Mayle stood by his side.

"They don't truly know of you yet."

Derek looked up at her.

"Yet?" He asked. "Not even about...." He mentioned of their earlier talk.

Mayle shook her head. He nodded and thought.

"Any of them... have it?"

Mayle shook her head again.

"Before...father had passed, he checked on them. None of them had any signs. It all is all on you."

Derek continued looking at his siblings.

"How did father pass?"

Mayle just sighed and looked towards the children.

"Draco, Ayra, Lyra, go play some more. And then I will give you each a bath."

"Yes bwig... sis-er." They said in unison. They all leaped off Derek's lap and quickly ran off. He saw them leave and looked back at his sister.

Mayle sighed heavily and sat next to him. The sadness in her voice only made it more depressing.

"Father went to go look for his sire and dam about a year ago. He wanted to find a way to... help or find in any way to get rid of the Black Heart gene or power from you. He heard that there were a few Shadeians by the far coast of a few tropical islands in the Atlantic ocean. That is were he heard the last.

"He sent us a message saying that he found them but only a few. When he got there, he found out that his grandsire and granddam were the only ones living by themselves on a single island. The reason why they were along was because his sire was a Black Heart and had many problems with anger. He caused the death of a few dragons and a few others who were on the island.

When father went to talk to him, his grandsire told him that there were only two ways to get rid of it.

However, he wasn't told about it because suddenly, the few island people living there grew mad and tried to kill him. In his rage he killed his mate, the few people that attacked him and nearly killed our father. When he came to, he saw the destruction he had caused and committed suicide. Father survived but just barely. He was dying and wanted to find any way to help get rid of the Black Heart gene.

But he failed.

We got a letter from a Shadeian, who lived here saying that he only found blood and bodies on the island. He also said he never found anything that had to do with any ways of getting rid of the gene."

Mayle sighed and looked at Derek

Derek was in a heavy toll here. His grandsire killed everyone including his own son and not control himself. Was that meant to be him? If he ever became angry, would he go around and kill everyone he loves and care for.

"Would it be me?" he said quietly.

Mayle looked at him and slowly closed her eyes.

"I'm... sorry brother."

Derek looked down at his sister who was losing tears on her face. He slowly reached over and held her hand. Mayle felt it and looked back up at him.

Derek just had a small smile.

"No, it's not going to be me. You know why? Because I didn't harm you on that night. I didn't hurt you or tried to kill you."

Mayle grew a small smile.

"But you killed my family." Said Aurora.

They both looked at her. She had no facial expression.

"You killed my family and didn't stop."

Derek looked heavily at her.

"Would you have a choice if you saw your family being attacked? Would you have a choice if the anger grew within and couldn't control it? I protected my family from being killed, would you have done the same?"

Auroraremained quiet. It was silenced for the three of them. If anything, the family conflict was getting stronger and soon, Aurora wasn't sure if she should stay with Derek anymore. She wasn't even sure if she would keep the secret and reveal the location of the Shadeians. No one knew what would happen next.

Derek just wished that she would understand. Mayle slowly stood up and walked over to Aurora, who was cautious of her approach.

"You must understand," she spoke in a soft manner. "My brother couldn't control himself. And if you have any idea on the legend, you would understand."

Aurorajust blinked once.

"No... I haven't heard about the legend but if it means that it made Derek kill my family then... I want to know about it."

Over an hour passed as Mayle and Derek told about the legend. Some new parts were added in by Mayle which surprised Derek and Aurora.

One of a few were like if a Light and Dark dragon were to ever mate, especially if they had the Black Heart in them, they would have powers not like of the Black Heart but of unnatural ones like rapid healing, telekinesis, shadow and light movement, invisibility, elemental control and so much more. However, not many were heard of that had these powers.

There was also something that sometimes, the power not always triggered from anger but also from excitement. Maybe a lot of excitement like anything that makes your heart beat faster. Not by running or exercising but mostly like if in trouble or on the occasional... mating.

After it was all discussed, Aurora sat back a bit exhausted by the story. Derek waited patiently, hoping that she would forgive him for it.

She seemed tired and was about to fall.

"If you wish," said Mayle. "We may finish discussing this tomorrow. It is late and everyone here is ready to sleep."

Aurorajust nodded.

"If you don't mind, may I sleep on the couch?"

Mayle just nodded. She then turned to Derek.

"And where will you sleep brother?"

He was about to ask outside but Aurora spoke out.

"I think he can share the couch with me."

This got both of their attentions. Aurora just gave a small nod before standing up and heading to the couch.

Mayle had gotten some extra blankets for the two. When everything was turned off and the younger siblings were asleep, Mayle and Derek headed off to sleep.

Quietly and out of range they spoke briefly.

"Derek, can we trust her?" asked Mayle.

Derek gave a slight nod.

"She is my mate."

Mayle just sighed.

"But I sense that because of what you did to her, she might go off and tell everyone were our location is at."

Derek just hugged his sister close and rubbed his head against hers.

"I won't let her. I will never let anything happen to you, mother, our siblings or anyone here. I swear."

Mayle looked up at him and he just gave her a smile. He kissed her forehead.

"Good night my sister."

"Good night my brother."

With that they both went to their beds. Derek saw that Aurora was already sleeping on the couch. However, she was sleeping towards the edge. He slowly moved over her before laying down by her and wrapping the blankets around them.

Her back was turned to his front but she spoke without looking.

"Derek." She said in a almost whisper.

"Yes?

"Do you still love me?"

There was a pause for a moment.

"Yes."

"Even though I was angry at you for what you did?"

Another pause followed.

"It's in the past Aurora. And Yes, I still love you."

He slowly laid his arm on her shoulder to indicate that. Aurora gave a slight sigh.

"I still love you too." She said quietly.

Derek gave a slight smile before moving ever so closer to her and wrapping his arms around his beautiful mate.

mind the mistakes, had to do this in a hurry!! and i mean in a real hurry.
