"A Day I Won't Forget"

Written by Mobius.

The following contains scenes of transformation of a male human into a male ferret, quite without his consent, I might add. There is some slight anatomy (nudity) but for the most part, this is a clean-ish version of a good ol' transformation story. All characters and locations are fictional, unless otherwise stated.

Today was the day. Today, I would be visiting the local pet superstore, finally able to buy my first pet. The last time I was there, a nice woman had led me around the store, pointing out various pets and breeds, whittling down my choices until I found the perfect animal: the ferret. She had pointed me towards dogs at first, but in my small apartment, there wasn't much room for a big dog, and I didn't much like the smaller ones. I couldn't adopt a cat because my roommate was allergic (besides, I didn't get along well with cats). So my options were limited. Birds were annoying, rabbits weren't very active, fish...well, what can you do with a fish? I needed something that would fit my personality, something that was active, and would want to play, and the woman led me right to them. Six ferrets, all rolling around in a giant ball, constantly playing, fighting, oh, and one resting. I picked up the resting one and he woke, crawling up onto my shoulder and sniffing my neck.

The woman said he liked me, and that although he wasn't as active as the other ferrets, he was still a little ball of energy. I thought that was good, what with my college schedule and all. The woman then put the little guy back in his glass box full of sawdust with the others, and gave me a rundown on what I needed to do. She suggested that I go home and find every single nook and cranny in my house and find some way to close it. She said ferrets were the most curious creatures on earth, and that they will, without doubt, find a way out of my home. She gave me a list of known escape routes, a list of supplies, such as food and toys, and sent me on my way, saying, "Tomorrow, I'll acquaint you with all of the ferrets. One of them liked you, so I'm sure all of them will like you.

So I bought some of the supplies, (the bare minimum. What you can buy with a college budget) and sped home, spending most of my time after dinner scrambling around the apartment. My roommate didn't come home that night. Most of the time he didn't come home, usually out drinking or with his girlfriend, or both. Just as well, I didn't like him much anyway. He was belligerent and tried to commandeer my X-Box every night. Then, I played Borderlands for a bit, studied for my psychology test on Monday, then went to bed, almost too excited to go to sleep. It was like Christmas Eve.

So, here I was, getting out of my car, taking a deep breath. I walked up to the Pet Smart superstore and stepped inside the air-conditioned building. I walked over to a worker and asked if Jasmine were here. He said yes, asking me if I was the new guy. I gave him a puzzled expression.

"What? No, no, I'm here to pick up a new pe--"

"Ah, yes. Yeah, she's back here. I'll show you."

I followed the man, who took me back behind an "Employees only" door, showing a white, clean interior. He went down the hall a short way and opened a door.

"Should I be in here?" I asked timidly.

"Oh, yeah, it's fine. She's in here."

I went up to the doorframe and looked in. Jasmine, as you have probably guessed was the girl that showed me the ferrets, was turned away from a window, holding a finger to her lips in the universal sign of "shh."

I went into the dimly lit room, and the door was closed behind me. On the other side of the window, a woman was talking to a man, in a similar room. The man was sitting in a chair, and it looked like he was being asked some questions.

Suddenly, the window became a mirror.

"Sorry, but that might be distracting while I ask you some questions." She said her hand on a control pad, which I guess controlled the mirror/window. "Go ahead and sit down."

I sat down on the stainless steel chair that rested behind me. It was quite comfortable, despite its unyielding make-up.

"Now, I have to ask you a few questions. This is routine for pet owners, especially for new pet owners. We are required by law to ask you these questions. Please bear with me. Have you, in the past, ever fallen sick to pneumonia?"

"Oh, these kinda questions. I see. No. Never."

"Yellow Fever?"

"No."

And on she droned, asking about previous diseases, and vaccinations, and whatever else there was. I could not remember all of the questions, and I kind of tuned her out, thinking about whether the guy in the other room went through a similar procedure.

"Hey." Jasmine said, snapping her fingers. "You dozed off there."

"Oh, no, I was just thinking about the chicken pox. I think I did have it as a kid, but I don't remember when." I said, coolly coming up with a lie. I kind of wanted to impress Jasmine, not insult her. I liked her a bit.

"Well, did you hear what I said?"

I blinked.

She sighed good-naturedly, turning to the counter that she had been leaning against. She pulled a syringe out of a metal case, and turned around.

"I have to give you a vaccination. Ferrets sometimes carry a cross-species virus pretty dangerous to humans. We are required to vaccinate you before you can purchase your ferret."

I laughed, pulling up my sleeve. "Not a problem."

She rubbed a local anesthesia on my shoulder and inserted the needle. I flinched a bit, and she pulled out.

"See, that wasn't so hard, ya baby." She laughed, walking over to the counter.

I tried to laugh too, attempting the simple task of opening my mouth and exhaling air, but I suddenly couldn't. I slumped in the chair, my legs slowly moving, the world blurring then going a grainy black and white. Jasmine turned around, still smiling.

"Not so hard at all. See?"

Then I blacked out.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I woke up, immediately opening my eyes. I tried jumping out of the cold steel chair I was still in, but now I was strapped in. There were straps at my wrists, elbows, neck, waist, knees, and ankles. And I didn't have any clothes. I tried my bonds again, pulling hard, but not able to move an inch against them.
"Ah, so you're awake!"
I heard Jasmine's voice call to me from behind my chair. Then I heard the short, crisp clacking of fingers on a computer keyboard. "We're almost ready, don't you worry. You won't be strapped down for long."
"What are you doing? And where are my clothes?"
"Don't worry, this is just another test. See, you agreed to it."
"What!?"
Suddenly, Jasmine's voice filled the room, slightly tinny, obviously a recording.
"And do you agree to take full custody of the animal?"
Then my voice.
"Sure."
"Do you take responsibility for any abuse given to the animal?"
"Sure."
"Do you agree to participate in a free test that is mandatory for new pet owners at this store?"
"Sure."
A click, then silence.
"See, you agreed."
Jasmine's normal voice now.
"And what exactly did I agree to?"
"Oh, I think you will be pleasantly surprised."
I heard her stand up, and walk around in front of me. She was wearing her normal outfit, except now, she had a long cat tail flowing from behind her.
"What the... This is such a trick. Give me my clothes back. Is this some fetish of yours?"
"No, no, trick." She said, her prehensile tail slowly tracing my face. "Real enough?"
"No."
"Well, it doesn't matter much. This is your test. You will be transformed into a ferret for exactly one week. At the end of that week, you will be transformed back to the exact physical and mental state you are in now. Which is quite good, I must add..." She said, tracing my chest with her tail.
Definitely a fetish, I thought to myself.
"You will, directly after your transformation, give up all of the rights given to you by the constitution and become my property. One week later, after your transformation, you will walk out of here with your personal belongings and a free ferret, as well as a month's supply of food for the ferret."
"Ummm, can I have my clothes back?"
"You have no need for clothes, you silly ferret!" She laughed.
"I haven't been turned into one yet, right?" Trying unsuccesfully to play along. Maybe if I humoured her...
"Well, technically you were ten minutes ago when I injected you with the retro-virus. You should start changing soon."
"Yeah..."
She turned my chair, which, to my surprise, was on a swivel, toward the large mirror. "Don't believe me? Watch."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Almost immediately, I felt an amazing amount of heat spread from my neck to the rest of my body. I looked at the mirror, noticing just how big my eyes were as I stared at my reflection. I saw beads of sweat form, and then pour from my forehead. Soon, I felt the actual changes occurring. Patches of fur sprouted from my shoulders and arms, short hair that quickly spread over my body. As it spread, I grew smaller, my bones reforming, changing my arms and legs so that I could stand on my fingers and toes, on all fours. I watched my fingers grow stubbier, small, thin, black claws forming where my fingernails had fallen out. My hands grew thinner, small pads forming on my fingers, toes, feet and palms. I slipped my arms out of the cuffs, finally able to escape. But frankly, I didn't really care about escaping anymore. I was completely absorbed in what was happening to me, strangely fascinated by my transformation.

I looked back up at the mirror, looking at the ears that had moved to the top of my head. My neck was growing longer, covered in fur, almost matching the thickness of my head. A short snout formed on my face, my teeth falling out and being replaced by small sharp ferret teeth. I watched as my eyes changed, turning black, and small. The room, which hadn't been well-lit, suddenly became a tiny bit brighter. I guessed that ferrets eyes were better accustomed for the dark. I glanced down at my body, trying to see any other changes, but I lost my balance, falling on all fours. My front legs and back legs were pretty much the same height, so it was quite comfortable, seemingly normal for me to stand on all fours. I looked up, but I couldn't see myself in the mirror. I shakily stood up tall on my back legs, noticing how I can no longer move my arms to my sides. The hung down in front of my stomach as I looked at my reflection.

Speaking of my stomach, it had been covered in a fine layer of white hair. As the fur went along my back, it became darker. The fur around my ferret face had created a mask. My paws were covered in a short black fur. I looked down at myself, still standing, a little easier than before, on two legs. I glanced at my crotch, noticing that I was smaller, almost completely non-existent. I looked away, a bit embarrassed. I slowly lowered myself on all fours. I could still feel my organs slowly moving around, and it was a tiny bit sickening. New smells assaulted my senses, smells of another person in the room, and other animals from the past. Ferrets, dogs, cats. Have there been others who had been transformed like me? I looked up from examining myself to glance at Jasmine.

"Do you still feel warm?"

I thought for a moment. The heat that had spread at the beginning of my transformation was no longer there. I looked back up at Jasmine and said, "No."

Well, I meant it to be "No." But the human mouth easily makes those sounds. The ferret mouth made a sound like "Aohh."

"Yeah, instead of trying to speak, maybe you should just shake or nod your head..." She said slowly. "Since the heat is gone, this means that your transformation is over. It's time for me to sign you out and take you home."

Then, without a word, she tucked her tail into her pants, weaving it around her waist and leg. I didn't understand why she even had a tail in the first place.

"Oh, you might want to know why I have a tail in the first place."

I blinked. How did--

"Back when these experiments were first started, the transformation was unreliable. I was turned into a cat and taken care of by a worker here. Before you can work here you have to become an animal for a week, much like you have to do. I picked a cat, and successfully completed the week. But when they transformed me back, it didn't work all the way, and I'm one of the three people here who have animal parts. One of them has fur they have to shave every day. The other has paws for feet."

I looked up. This was all real wasn't it? As she reached down to pick me up, I waited to see if her touch would feel normal, not like something out of a dream. Sure enough, it was real; although slightly different because of the fur I felt her skin through. She held me in the crook of her arm, and walked out into the hall. For some reason I felt much calmer. I looked at my paw, wiggling the individual pads, noticing that they were only slightly shorter than my former human fingers. How could I feel this calm? I had just been transformed into a ferret! How abnormal can you get? But for some reason, it all felt perfectly normal, like it was supposed to happen, and it was a good thing it did.

As she walked down the hall, we passed various people, some nodding their head towards Jasmine, some smiling once they saw me. Not a mean, "Ha ha, we just turned you into a ferret, loser, "smile. A nice, "Welcome to our family," smile. It was all quite calming. I stretched, feeling my long body curl slightly, my legs out in front of me, mouth gaping wide.

"Somebody looks tired. Don't worry; in a sec you'll be home."

Home? My home? No, somebody else's home. Hopefully, a home that I could play and--

Wait a second! No, I wanted to go to my own home! Right? I wanted to watch T.V. and go to school and...

Well, maybe a ferret's life was a bit easier. I stretched again, and then dug my tiny nails into Jasmine's shirt, careful not to scratch her, as I climbed up to her shoulder for a better vantage point. I perched there, watching the world go by.
