Leon's New School - Day 1

First day of a new school. There was always something foreboding about these days, a slow looming feeling that creeps up on you, and when it finally gets to you, it never does anything. These thoughts ran through the head of Leon as he walked down the hallways. After getting his schedule and lunch number, he had set off to his first class. No sense in just waiting around?

Leon himself was a pretty scruffy-looking guy. He was a mutt of two canines, and nobody could tell. Some say he's part coyote, because of the tan fur and cream underbelly, but the thin black stripe down his back denotes Jackal in there somewhere. In truth, he was a Jackal and Coyote mix. He was only 5 foot 8, with a very average build, though slightly chubby. He had long hair, down to his waist. He kept it back in one long braid all the way down, with bangs that go into his soft green eyes. He does get teased for it, but he doesn't mind. He is wearing a white long-sleeved T-shirt, and a pair of khaki pants that were slightly too big. He wore a belt to hold them up, as well as so he could display his belt buckle, which read UGC winner. It was from a gaming tournament not too long ago.

He stopped only once on the way to his class, and that was to get to his locker. After loading in the books he would need for the next 2 classes, he closed it and headed off. One of the first things he saw when he got into the classroom, was two students in an argument.

One of the students was a husky, wearing a white beanie, white overcoat, and long black pants with a black shirt underneath. He appeared to be the aggressor, standing over the other student and yelling. The other student appeared to be an otter or a ferret of some sort. He had his hair, which was mid-length and hanging, dyed a dull red. He had a couple of piercings in his ears, and nose. He wore a grey shirt and a pair of tight, black skinny jeans. He was acting rather dramatic, as they both were.

Leon looked at this and sighed, walking over. "Um, excuse me..." He said, waving softly. "...I noticed you two were arguing...is there any way I could help?" The husky stood up, and looked at Leon questioningly.

"Hmm...maybe you can. Say, if you were offered a chance to dress up as a Death Eater from Harry Potter, and wear it to a theater, and get paid, would you do it?" His voice was rather scruffy. Leon pondered this for a while. He wasn't a huge fan of Harry Potter, but he did like the series, somewhat. If only for the concept of magic in everyday life, just hiding.

"Erm, yeah. I guess I would. Though if it's not much money, I probably wouldn't." The husky, a look of satisfaction on his face, pointed towards the otter and laughed. "Ha! See!" The otter waved his hand dismissively.

"Dude, that doesn't mean that it's any less degrading, though. Holy crap. This otter's voice sounded silky and very smooth...a sharp contrast to both the husky's, and Leon's. The two got to yelling, before Leon attempted to butt in once more. However, his words were drowned out.. He turned with a sigh.

The teacher walked in, with the bell ringing. Students began to rush into the class, not wanting to be late. Leon took a seat in the back. The teacher stood up. He was a hefty-looking polar bear, not someone to be trifled with. He had a deep Scottish accent. "Alrighty, now. My name is Sean O'Connor. Call me Mr. O'Connor, or call me Sean. Call me Mr. Sean, and you fail the class." After the class had a chuckle, the husky from before rose his hand.

"So, Mr. Sean, why can't we call you Mr. Sean?" The class laughed at this as well. The teacher waved his hand as if to say it didn't matter.

"Ahh, it figures. You, Teran, can call me Mr. Sean. We all know you're going to fail the class, anyways." The class erupted in laughter again. Leon registered that this kid was named Teran, and that he was somewhat of a delinquent. After the laughter subsided, the teacher had resumed his normal goings-on. Later on in the class, he told the students to pair up. Leon was going to ask the otter if he wanted to pair up with him, but Teran already asked, and the otter appeared to have a partner already. It was a girl, a blue-furred fox with purple hair. She was dressed in a pseudo-schoolgirl outfit. It had a gothic-styled skirt, minus the black. Accompanied by a white, long-sleeved shirt and a black tight vest. Leon accepted Teran's offer.

"So...what was all that earlier about?" Leon asked Teran, formulating a few equations in his head. It was Algebra II. He had taken it in his other school, but he had transferred in the middle of the semester, and the classes were full for anything else.

"Eh, I was just telling Scratch over there about the new job I got. That new Harry Potter movie's coming out, and I was offered a job. All I have to do is dress up as a Death Eater and walk around, scaring people and promoting the movie sales." He smiled, twirling a pencil. "Sounds like a good deal, am I right?" Leon laughed, making him scratch the paper. He noted that the otter's name was Scratch. Whether that was a nickname or not was up for debate.

"Yeah, that does sound like a good deal. It's fun, and you'll be making some money." He smiled, erasing the scratch that he made. Teran was still twirling his pencil around in his paw. Leon had finished the problem he was working on, and moved on to the next one. Teran looked rather lost, then looked to Leon.

"Say...what's your name, man? I don't think I've seen you before." He said, stopping and pointing the pencil at Leon. His skill twirling that thing looked almost akin to what one would see a knife-fighter do. Leon stammered slightly at the sudden question, but didn't think much of it afterwards.

"Oh, I'm Leon. Leon Hodges." He extended a hand for a handshake, while Teran extended a fist for a fist-bump. They held their hands like that, then Leon switched to a fist, as Teran opened his for a handshake. Sharing a laugh, the just went ahead and shook hands.

The class was over soon, and Leon headed off. His next class was Woodshop. He was better in a creative situation. As he walked in, the teacher was telling the students to pick up a syllabus, a waiver, and a pair of goggles. The room itself stank of wood chippings and sawdust, though it was to be expected. It looked rather bright, probably to keep the students from sleeping at the desks in the front. There were only eight seats, meaning seven other students. Leon took the one at the far right.

At this point, he took the time to look at the teacher. Theteacher, as one would expect, was a beaver. He was tall, and wore a red sweater-vest over a brown shirt with khakis. He carried an air of nobility. He didn't see any sort of unusual happenings amongst the students like last class. There was still a few minutes before class started. Suddenly, he was greeted with a pair of folded arms around his head, along with a pair of breasts pressing at his neck. Someone's head laid on his own. Obviously female, she giggled. "Hey, I like your hair." She was being awfully casual about this.

"You do? Huh, most people just laugh at it." He had only met a handful of people who liked his hair, especially when it was braided like that. She had grabbed it and was playing with it lazily. He continued to wonder just who this girl was. Her voice was soft and sultry, but didn't convey any sense of lust. It did have a slight accent, but he couldn't place it. Definitely European, though.

"Yeah. I love long hair." She let go of his head and took the seat next to him. She was a rabbit...bunny? Maybe a hare. Her fur was a deep grey, with white highlights in her hair. Her most striking feature was her amber eyes. She had rather modest breasts, covered by a tight brown T-shirt. Under that was a pair of classic jeans. She had long hair as well, keeping it tied back in a ponytail. "Do you do the braids yourself?" She asked.

Leon gawked for a moment. She was very pretty, but it wasn't love at first sight, not at all. "Yeah, I do. I do it every morning and I don't take it out of the braids until the evening." He said, smiling. She appeared to be younger, or maybe the same age as Leon, who was only 15.

She giggled and reached behind him, grabbing the long braid. "You should let me braid it some time. It looks good, now, but the braid is sort of loose." He didn't know how to make a "tight" braid. He had always thought that his own braid was tight, anyhow. Either way, he was getting conversation.

"Uh, Sure. I don't see why not." He shrugged. "By the way, I'm Leon." He extended a hand for a shake, but was greeted with a full-body hug. She patted him on the back, and kissed him on the cheek, pulling away.

"I'm Alice, how do you do?" She said, still smiling. Leon was somewhat phased by the kiss. He'd only been kissed by his parents before, and once by his aunt. But he kept his cool, and smiled back. "I'm doing good, nice to meet you." He was about to compliment her looks, but the teacher was whacking his tail on the side of the wall.

"Class is in thethion, kiddoth." He said. He had a VERY prominent lisp, but a highly masculine voice. "Now. One of the thingth you have ith a waiver. Thith tellth uth that you are completely and irrevocably rethponthible for your own actionth. Any injurieth you thuthtain here are your own fault." Leon had already signed it. "The other thing ith a thyllabuth. It containth the ruleth of thith clath." Leon was beginning to find it hard to resist laughing at the teacher's lisp.

"Rule one. Don't laugh at Mr. Thutherth' lithp." The teacher's name was Mr. Suthers. "Rule two. Don't touch the thationth while there ith no teacher around. Alwayth get teacher permithionth before doing anything. Rule three, I do NOT do late work. Anything you mith turning in, tough luck, kiddoth. Thoth are the bathic ruleth. Now, take a lab theet and partner up. There are four tableth, and eight of you. Do the math." Before Leon could ask, Alice grabbed his hand.

"Alright. Come on, Leon. We'll be partners for today." Leon had no objections on that matter. While he wouldn't mind getting to know the other students, he would have no problem partnering with Alice. They got lab sheets and put on their goggles. The assignment was to build two halves of a model car. Each with the others' designs. They were to design a car to view from the side, and then they were to swap papers and build one half of each car, then glue it together for a finished product. Leon went with a more drag-racer look while Alice...started to draw a minivan. Their end product looked very...mix-match. They got a B on their first assignment. As the bell rang to get to the next class, he looked at Alice and smiled.

"Hey, nice drawing, by the way. Are you an artist?" The smell of fresh sawdust filled the air. It wasn't so bad a smell when fresh. But after having sat there for a long time, it got kind of stale and musky. Alice simply smiled and nodded, eyes closed.

"Yes. Back home, I drew all the time. I have a lot of drawings at home, but I do a lot of schoolwork here." She sighed, and her ears drooped slightly. Leon asked her the question he'd wanted to ask her since he'd heard her speak.

"Where's back home?" He asked her curiously. Her accent sounded German, or maybe Swedish. He wasn't exactly sure on where to place it. All he knew was that it was adorable and European.

"Oh, I'm from Norway." So he was close. "I come from Oslo, the capital city. It's right on the shorelines." Leon nodded, noting that for sometime later. He might look up Norwegian culture, maybe make her feel a bit more at home. Meanwhile, a student seemed to be crying. A rather small boy, appeared to be a mouse.

"Well, Alice, it was nice meeting you." She nodded and said the same thing, hugging him once more, and kissing him on the cheek again to say goodbye. Leon walked over to the boy who was crying and knelt down. He looked WAY too young to be in High School. "Hey, man. What's the matter?" The mouse-boy looked up at him oddly, tears running down his cheek.

"I...I...I-I c-c-cut myself..." He said, holding up his thumb. Wow, in High School, and he was crying over a cut? It was kind of deep, and bleeding a bit more than most cuts, but it was nothing too serious. Leon scratched the back of his head.

"Do...you know where the Nurse's office is? You know, that's why they have a nurse." He was new here, but he knew the location of the Nurse's office. He passed it as he was coming into the school. The mouse shook his head no, and Leon extended a hand to help him up. "Come on. I'll take you there." The kid hesitantly took his hand. Dear God...this kid was short. Leon was 5 foot 8, but this kid didn't even break 5 feet! Anyhow, Leon led him out of the room and towards the Nurse's office. Once there, Leon said his goodbyes, but the mouse-boy left without a word into the office. With a shrug, Leon headed off to the next class.

It was Language Arts. Leon walked in to see the lecture already taking place. The teacher was a lioness, with a very petite form and a small, plain blue dress. Her hair was pressed up in a bun. He could tell right now that she was going to be stuck-up. He walked in and took a seat in the back...right next to Teran, who looked more than happy to see him. "Yo, a familiar face! Finally." As soon as he said that, the teacher scolded him. He kept quiet. You know, most of the students seemed quite scared of her.

The class was...long. As well as quite uneventful. As he left, he and Teran said their goodbyes. The bell for lunch rang. Finally, some food. He got to the cafeteria, and immediately got in one of the lines for Pizza. He got the standard milk, pizza, and apple fare of most high schools. He found a seat across from Teran and the otter, whose name was thought to be Scratch. He said his hellos, and almost immediately, Scratch and Teran got into an argument. He wasn't sure over what, but it seemed petty. He ate while watching them, laughing at the silliness. Suddenly, a feminine voice popped up behind him.

"Silly, isn't it?" Said the voice. He looked behind him, but she'd already sat down on the other side. It was the girl that Scratch was talking to and partnered with in the last class. He smiled and nodded.

"Yeah. I don't even really know these guys, but for some reason, I feel we can be good friends." He said. "Oh, by the way, I'm Leon." He extended a hand for a shake...again. This time, he was greeted with an actual hand-shake. She giggled and smiled as well.

"My name's Sarah." She said. "Don't worry about them. They argue all the time, but it's in good spirits." Her voice was high and smooth. The two seemed to have quieted down. What were they arguing about, anyways?

"So, Scratch...is that your real name?" The otter looked up, somewhat glazed-looking. He smiled, took another bite of food, and then turned back to Leon. "Naw, that's just what Teran calls me. It's grown to be a nickname, but I don't really like it. My name's Travis. You know, like Travis Touchdown, but without Touchdown." Leon's first thought was that Travis was some sort of druggie. He decided not to jump to conclusions.

"Oh, well, my name's Leon." He said. Travis nodded his head as if listening to a song. "Nice name, man...it would be cooler if your last name was Kennedy..." He talked slowly, one who wasn't really paying attention would think him to be high on something.

Leon laughed, getting the Resident Evil reference, though he wasn't exactly a gamer himself. He poked at his food, taking a bite of the apple. It would appear that Travis had brought his own lunch, consisting of several brownies, a bottle of chocolate milk, and a small bag of beef jerky. To the side of the food was a can of Monster, the energy drink. Teran didn't appear to have food at all.

"So, Leon. Where did you come here from?" Said Sarah, an expression of sincere curiosity on her face. She was too cute for Leon to handle, really. He thought for a moment. Did she mean what country or state, or did she mean something like his last school.

"Well, I came here from North Kingston High." He said it rather sheepishly. He didn't like North Kingston, for the sole reason that the students there were complete asshats. The look of distaste was apparent on his face. Sarah chuckled and punched him playfully.

"My brother goes to North Kingston. He says it's not bad." The made Leon smirk with laughter. He was stifling a full-blown gut busting laugh.

"How long has he been there?"

"Four months." She was somewhat confused as to why Leon didn't like it.

"That's why it's so funny." Truth be told, you had to GO to North Kingston for a while before you figured out why it sucked. A bit more small-talk and the lunch was over. Leon headed off to his next class, Biology. He found himself walking besides Sarah. "Hey, by the way...what's your next class?" Sarah thought for a moment, then looked at her schedule.

"It's...Biology, with Professor Holmes." She said. That just happened to be Leon's next class. He looked over and smiled at her warmly. Something about the way her bangs drooped into her face just accentuated her eyes.

"Hey, what a coincidence, that's my next class." He held up his schedule for her to see. She took it out of his hands to confirm this, then handed it back. "Heh, well I'm going to follow you, since I don't know where these classrooms are." He continued along following behind her. They arrived at the classroom, where the teacher was telling a story about when he was on a safari and he saw the PE teacher pouncing on some feral antelope. It was, needless to say, an amusing story, though fake. The bell rang, and they all took their seats. Suddenly, Leon felt his hair being tugged from behind. He turned around to see...Alice! She wrapped her arms around his neck and placed her head next to his.

"Hey, Leon! Nice to know you're in this class!" Sarah turned as well, seeing Alice. Alice looked at her knowingly. It was apparent that they were acquaintances. Leon smirked back.

"Hey. I didn't know you were in this class as well." Sarah and Alice nodded for a silent hello.

"This class should be interesting, yes?" Said Alice, letting go. "Can I re-braid your hair? Leon shrugged and flipped his hair over the chair so she could re-braid it as she liked. Sarah was chuckling.

"So, Leon. Your first day here, and you've already got a girlfriend?" She patted his shoulder to insist that she was joking. Alice laughed as well, but Leon was blushing rather heavily. The teacher pointed to them.

"Hey, you three. I can understand that you want to talk, but I want to talk. I'm getting paid to talk, and you're not. So stop talking, okay?" He smiled, jokingly, but the message was serious. Be quiet.

Throughout the lesson, which was riddled with jokes and slight innuendo, Alice continually re-braided and unbraided Leon's hair. By the end of the class, she had finished braiding it once more, when the bell rang. She stood and walked to the other two, hugging them both. "Have fun, guys!" She let go and walked away, smiling back and waving. Leon waved as well, a sort of dreamy look in his eyes.

He was met with Sarah's hand waving in front of his face. "Hello? Earth to lover-boy." He looked back to her, blushing.

"I'm not in love." He said rather plainly. "I just..." She shushed him.

"I understand." She giggled and walked out of the class in the same fashion as Alice.

Leon was kind of puzzled. What did she understand? Why he wasn't in love, the fact of such...he decided not to bother with it and headed to his next class. On the way there, he stopped to use the restroom. He approached the urinal, unzipped his jeans, and began relieving himself. Suddenly, he felt a bop on the head. He turned his head, and there stood a rather tall and bulky individual.

The kid was a canine of some sort, though it wasn't easy to tell what. Possibly dingo, or coyote. Maybe some form of fox or domestic canine. He had an interesting look on his face. It was either anger or smug happiness. Either way, Leon didn't like it. "Hey, what's a girl like you doing in here?" He was obviously referring to Leon's hair. A typical school bully type. He wore, as per what appeared to be bully code, a letter jacket and a pair of jeans. He had short hair, flat-topped. Possibly military-style. Leon shrugged. "Just pissin'. What about you?" The bully didn't appear to be happy that he got such a nonchalant response.

"Hey, I'm just in here to uh, deliver a message." He grabbed Leon's braid and yanked backwards, pulling Leon away from the urinal and getting piss on the floor as well as Leon's shirt. "Look. Alice is taken. Don't even THINK about getting any funny ideas." Leon wanted to say that he had no interest. Though a lie, it was sort of true. She was indeed beautiful, but she was just being friendly. "You got that? Just stay away from her." He let go and walked out of the restroom. Leon stood up and coughed, having gotten some of his own piss in his mouth. He'd stopped, and stood. Apparently nobody else was in the restroom. After putting away his junk and washing himself off, he walked out and back on his way to class. His head throbbed, but mostly just his scalp, from the hair being pulled.

On his way, the bell rang. He was late. He figured that, as he was already late, he shouldn't rush. After a few minutes, he was in the classroom. He noticed Travis sitting in the back, waved, and sat next to him. The lesson itself was boring, and the teacher, a badger woman, was rather intimidating. After a lot of talking and droning, the last bell of the day rang. Travis slapped something into Leon's hand. "Hey, man. Me and some others are hanging out at the skate park tomorrow. If you want to come, you can. That's my number. Just, uh, go home and use google or something to find the Zazz skate park, okay?" Leon nodded. He wasn't a skater by nature, but he did have a board that he never really used. He might as well bring it along.

"Alright, I'll be there." He said, waving goodbye. He walked down the hallway, and out of the double-doors. He didn't have to leave immediately, but he would. He had to get acquainted with the bus lineup, as with other schools. He found his own bus and got on, sitting up in the front.

Later that day, he sat up in his room, doing a couple of small drawings. A piece of wood with nails all inside of it. A bunch of random cockroaches across the page, and stickmen dueling. He later found himself drawing a girl. She appeared to be a likeness of Alice, but with some features of Sarah. He remembered the warning from before. Not that he would heed it. If things got to real violence, he had some martial arts experience, and could hold his own. If not, he'd just keep Teran around him when he could. Teran seemed to be a brawny guy.

Overall, it was a good day. He hadn't had a school day that good since...well, ever. The closest was a day at North Kingston, though it was his last day there. That was probably why it was his best memory of the place, because he was leaving it.
