EPISODE 2 - TARGET PRACTICE

"Mega Kick: A Normal-type attack. Out of all the Pokémon kicking attacks, this is the strongest." _- Pokémon Stadium _

Did you know? Kirlia are one of more than a hundred Pokémon species that can learn the move Mega Kick by TM. Other pokés with this skill include Gardevoir, Alakazam, Blaziken, Weavile, Mawile, Lopunny, and Zoroark.

"Rise and shine, newbies!"

Lucian stirred in his straw bed and yawned, his eyes still unfocused. Through the dusty window at the end of the room the Espeon saw a dark sky, with only the slightest hint of the morning sun dawning.

"Big day today! You know you're going on your first mission later?"

Lucian turned towards the unfamiliar voice and saw a female Umbreon standing in the doorway. On the other side of the room, a Meditite lurched out of his bed and stood up straight.

"That's right, miss! We just finished our basic training yesterday. I'm Brock, and that Espeon there is Lucian."

"Nice to meet you two! I'm Tamao. And actually, you haven't finished your training quite yet."

Lucian shook off the last of his sleep and stood up too. It had been only a few days since he officially joined the Inner Eye rescue guild, but he was already feeling at home here. Thanks to Kira vouching for him, he'd enjoyed a warm welcome as a new recruit. His first encounter with the Kirlia had left him bruised and a little humiliated, but all things considered he felt quite grateful to her.

Brock was looking at the visitor curiously and seemed to be struggling to hold back a question. Finally, he blurted it out.

"But you're a dark type, right? Are you a guild member?"

"That's right," Tamao grinned. "Most of the guild are psychic types, sure. But there's a handful of us with other types like myself. Of course, we need to provide some special skill to the rescue teams."

"It's that you're immune to psychic attacks, right?" Lucian asked. "You can probably deal with strong psychic types better than most of us."

Tamao nodded.

"Sure, that's part of it. But I'm also an expert in combat tactics, so I train our members to become more effective in battles. And this morning, that happens to be you two!"

The Espeon and Meditite exchanged an excited look.

"We'll meet in the practice arena when you're ready," the Umbreon continued. "And bring some oran berries! We'll be needing those."

She strode off down the hallway.

"Oran berries?" Brock grimaced. "Are we doing more endurance training?"

Lucian groaned, and unconsciously touched his balls. He remembered - or rather, still felt - yesterday's training session which had involved some guild members training the two new recruits. The goal of it was to withstand a strong attack enough to heal yourself with oran berries. The Espeon had held on after various psychic and elemental attacks, but his luck ended when a Meowstic downed him with a full-force sucker punch to his balls. Lucian had been in too much pain to notice, but Brock had it even worse - Kira knocked the Meditite out with a ball breaking Mega Kick, which she revealed she'd just learned recently.

"I hope not. Only one way to find out, I guess..."

The two Pokémon each filled a small pouch with oran berries, and made their way to the arena room.

Tamao was waiting for them, her legs folded. Lucian and Brock sat down in front of her, and she stood up.

"Well, like I said, I'll be giving you some final basic training before you get to join missions. So how many new combat techniques did you learn so far?"

"I can do some fighting attacks, and just got started on psybeams", Brock piped up.

"I've learned confusion attacks, psybeams, and some telekinesis," Lucian listed.

The Umbreon nodded approvingly.

"Alright, not a bad start! Now, what I specialize in are super effective techniques. You might already know that it doesn't matter how strong your attack is, what's important is the target you pick. For example, Brock, your fighting type moves will be very effective against normal types. And Lucian, you already mentioned that you can't touch me with your psychic attacks."

Seeing that the two pokés were following, Tamao continued.

"Now, if you're joining our rescue squads, you're gonna have to pull your own weight. If we're battling feral Pokémon or an outlaw, especially you low level members have to use your attacks super effectively. In fact, try to avoid even launching attacks unless you know they'll have an impact! Type differences are just one part of this, and the other part... is specific to male opponents only."

The Umbreon grinned.

"Balls are a prime target for attacks in battles, because even a glancing attack can have a huge effect when aimed at an opponents' weakest point. Did you know that almost all poké outlaws happen to be male? But luckily for us, their unique weakness allows us to put them out of commission easily."

Lucian gulped.

"So you're saying we should aim for our enemies' balls to knock them out faster?"

"That's right! It's standard guild practice." Tamao winked. "I heard you two even experienced that strategy for yourselves during your endurance training, right?"

The two recruits winced at the painful memories again.

"Hah, I heard Kira and Nix went pretty hard on you two. Don't hold it against them - they were the last ones to join the guild before you, so they're still trying to prove themselves to everybody.

Now, pass me an oran?"

Brock looked the Umbreon warily. He took a berry out of his pouch and rolled it over to her.

"Oh, don't worry. I'm not going to mess you up before your first mission! These berries are for -"

Tamao's golden rings glowed as she kicked the berry in a high arc. Just as the berry started to fall, she released a thin dark pulse in its direction.

*SPLAT*

The oran berry exploded, spreading its juices over the arena floor along the line of her attack, as the Umbreon turned back to the two pokés with a grin.

"Target practice!"

For the next hour, the two new recruits practiced attacks on berries thrown by the Umbreon. At first, Lucian found them impossible to hit at longer distances, but gradually got used to the technique. After a while, the floor was covered in halved and broken oran berries.

Lucian and Brock were panting and covered in sweat from the exertion. By now, some other guild members had also woken up and were filtering in and out of the arena. A few had stayed to watch the show. Kira was among them, and she waved happily to Lucian from the side of the arena when she walked in. Lucian noticed Nix, the aloof Meowstic who had sent his balls into his throat just yesterday, passing right through the room to get breakfast in the mess hall.

"Aaand, that's the last one!" Tamao said happily, after Lucian caught an oran berry in mid-air and crushed it with a psybeam.

"You guys did well! In a few more training sessions, you'll be hitting them every time. But that'll do for now, let's go get some breakfast!"

The Meditite didn't need to be told twice. He bounded off to the mess hall, followed by the Umbreon. Lucian was about to go with them, when he noticed Kira coming his way.

"Hey there!" the Kirlia smiled. "Not bad for a new recruit."

"Thanks Kira. I've already learned so much here! I can't wait to go on a real mission."

Kira glanced through the arena doorway at a petite Meloetta sitting in the mess hall.

"I heard Melanie's squad have a good one for your first time. A real outlaw hunt, I think? But I came here to talk about something else... remember our little deal?"

She underlined the word "deal" with a slight psychic squeeze of his balls.

Lucian was caught in her assertive gaze. "S- sure. You helped me get into the guild, and I'll help you practice new techniques when you want to. That was it, right?"

"That's right," said the Kirlia, keeping her grip on him. "With all these oran berries lying around, now's as good a time as any, right? There's this new attack I've been practicing..."

The Espeon hesitated.

Kira moved an inch closer to him. She loosened her psychic grip on Lucian's berries, and instead gave him a series of teasing strokes along his member. When her invisible fingertips caressed his sensitive head, he couldn't hold back a soft moan.

"I'd be very grateful, you know. I know it'll be pretty painful, but you'll be rewarded well in the end... and you'll feel just fine after a few of these berries too..." she murmured while stroking him.

Lucian's mind filled of thoughts about the kinds of rewards he could get from Kira - and was quickly deeply embarrassed, knowing that Kira could easily read them.

"O-Okay, sure. You can practice on me."

"Great!" the Kirlia smirked knowingly. "Thanks for helping me out, newbie. Now, just stand there and stay still for me, okay?"

She delicately paced around the Espeon until she was behind him. Lightly, she nudged his paws to make him spread his legs apart further.

After a moment, Lucian tried to look over his shoulder.

"Are you going to-"

The Kirlia's first kick slammed into his jewels from behind, cutting the Espeon short. He gasped in agony as a wave of pain washed over him. Kira's foot was surrounded by a red aura, and despite her thin legs the blow felt like it had the power of a Kangaskhan behind it. Before he could even fall to his knees, a swift second kick mercilessly crushed his nuts again. Eyes wide, Lucian noticed something odd even through the unbearable pain.

Why was he still standing? In a corner of his mind that wasn't alight with pain for his genetic future, Lucian realized - Kira was holding him upright. The only thing he wanted to do was to collapse into a small ball on the floor, but now she was even slowly lifting him upwards. Unable to move or fight, Lucian just whined in pain as he was lifted cleanly off his feet. He hardly had time to realize what Kira was doing before she let him go, and her third and final Mega Kick rose up, smashing between his legs and into his balls as he fell. Lucian gave out a pathetic squeak as his jewels were squashed even flatter. Kira withdrew her leg from his groin, and the Espeon immediately collapsed onto the floor.

The Kirlia's voice sounded distant and distorted to Lucian, as if he were deep underwater.

"There, was that a strong combination? I think I got you pretty good with the last one, right? ... Hey, Lucian?"

Lucian could only groan. His concentration was limited to a chunk of oran berry his face had landed on, and was trying to nibble. That seemed manageable.

New voices appeared around him, though the pained male couldn't focus much on what they were saying.

_"Oh Arceus, you got him good, didn't you?"

"Hey Kira! Training gone too far?"

"I don't think you want this one running your mission with you today, Mel!"

"Eh, he'll be fine after a bit of healing! Physically, that is."

"Is Chansey up yet? Anyone seen her?"

"Hah, nice move though!"

"Poor Espeon... that looked painful."_

When Lucian regained consciousness, he found himself lying in a straw bed in an unfamiliar room. He was surprised to see his nuts look fine, even though they were aching deeply. A Kirlia sat with her legs crossed across from him, now standing up as she noticed him stirring.

"Hey again." Kira said, giving him a slow psychic stroke as she climbed into his bed. "Sorry for that, I guess I'm quite a bit stronger than I thought..."

Lucian groaned, but it turned into a pleasured moan as Kira continued stroking. He relaxed a little.

"They gave me the whole afternoon to make sure you get back to good health, isn't that nice? Now, Espeon, about your reward..."
