Twitch reflexes active, Xandria brings her shield to bear and simply parries the wreckage off to the side with a twist of her body. If the act was all that exerting, well, it didn't show on her face."

"Riiight, champion of Atlantis, guess I gotta deal with that being real now... well I'm Xandria. And... I guess I'm here to stop you? Still kinda unclear on that," She scratches her hair with her free, gauntlet-clad hand. I don't see any other threats, so I mean... by default?"

Alda lifts herself over the railing and lands on her tail upon the sandy beach, holding her arms out wide and taking a deep breath, nailing the landing with aplomb. Once steady, she points again with her weapon, her tail twitching and wobbling. "So, you do not take my challenge seriously? What gives you the right to be so frivolous with the problems of my people, you stuck up pretty princess?" She grits her teeth, twisting her weapon in her grip, her shoulders shaking.

"Boy, you got a bit of an anger problem, don'tcha?" Xandria asks, taken slightly aback by the anger that this stranger creature pulls forth. Her gaze goes to that white-knuckle-gripped trident, and then to the "champion's" eyes before she finally shrugs.

"Look, I'm not trying to be frivolous. It's just that I'm still kinda new to this whole 'beating up monsters' gig, and I seem to just kinda get lucky with my wins most of the time."

"Well, champion, your luck is about to run out! The weight of our homes are upon our shoulders in this battle. Remember to keep showing respect as we clash in glorious combat. "Now then, I suppose I should prepare myself for this strange and alien land-based combat."

Alda produces from her belt pouch a small strip of glowing seaweed. She then opens her mouth wide and tosses the plant in, chomping her maw closed and chewing with a slow and deliberate action, all the while keeping her eyes fixed upon her opponent. She swallows with a loud gulp and then rolls her shoulders.

A moment of quiet passes between the two, but Alda gasps, clutching her chest, arching her back. She holds onto her weapon for support as she hunches forward. "F... fuck!" Her outburst almost comes off as out-of-place, if not for the scales dropping off from her oddly-writing tail, moving and sliding apart, tearing and bisecting into two shapely legs, burying newly-formed toes into the sand.

Xandria's shoulders sag while she watches this. Anyone willing to go through such a torture has to be hell-bent on fighting. Damn it all.

Her gaze is mixed with a bit of pity, but is mostly of interest as the odd transformation continues. Through the fish woman's heavy breaths, Xandria speaks. "I was wondering if you were seriously going to fight me balancing on that thing." She fights back a giggle, but to little avail. "Could you imagine flopping around like that?"

"A... as much as, I can imagine, you sinking to the... bottom!" Alda snaps back, the remnants of her tail shifting until it becomes a brilliant skirt with a large slip to show off one thigh. She shudders and stands up, tapping one foot, and then the other. "Seems as if the magic is holding... excellent. Now, you see the might of my people? How we can adapt, while you send machines to do your bidding to invade our homeland? With the same freakish tail arms you have, I shall defeat you!"

"They're called legs, dumb-ass."

"No matter!" Alda spins her trident over her head as thunder rumbles in the distance. "Come at me, champion of the land-dwelling invaders!"

"You know, while we're on the subject of anatomy, there's something that's been bothering me, here."

Alda growls, gritting her teeth, pointing the trident straight at her opponent. She forces out a huffing "yes?"

"Why does a fish woman need tits?" She asks this, leaning nonchalantly upon her shield. "I just don't get it"

With a twitch of her brow, Alda snaps back. "Well, why do you need such thick and glossy lips, huh? All it does is make you more seemly of an opponent!" Her sentence becomes her battle cry as she rushes forward, but Xandria raises her shield, almost as if on its own, swiveling her hips out of her relaxed posture into the perfect form to deflect the attack.

Without missing the beat, she adds. "Great question. I never could stay awake in Biology class, and I think my new job really doesn't account for anything science has to offer."

With another attack and another glancing shield strike, Alda roars. "Why don't you take this seriously? Do you think I'm a weakling you can just toy with!?"

"Predictable," Xandria replies, stepping smoothly to her side, her heavy armor feeling weightless. "But really, it's not me jobbing you right now. I'm just going on auto-pilot, you know?"

Her smooth dodge of Alda's latest attack includes a sweep of her tower shield to backhand the fish woman.

Alda's eyes widen, but her reaction time is nearly as quick as Xandria's, and she spins out of the way, feeling only the rush of air past her moist skin. "Ha! The pressure of the water is oppressive compared to the feeble air you live in. Here, I am much stronger and faster than any land dweller! Your attacks mean nothing if you can't hit me."

"Well, that's... annoying," Xandria mutters under her breath, angling her hips and moving to the edge of the shield into the path of Alda's weapon, striking it away in a decisive parry.

She spins into a roundhouse kick, but Alda bends back in such a way that Xandria's heel whizzes past her nose. However, the sand from the massive kick hits its mark, making the mer warrior stumble back and rub at her eyes. "Ah, shitfuck!"

Alda spins full around and leaps into the water. The angel attempts to follow her, but stops once her greaves make it to the shallows.

As long as they are on land, the advantage is Xandria's. In the water, the poor Valkyrie would sink like a rock for sure.

"Did... she just give up? Sand in the eyes did it, huh?" Xandria asks herself, planting her shield in the stand, the quiet of the surf and the pitter of water around her quite awkward.

The refreshing water wipes away the sand from the warrior's face, but now that she has returned to the familiarity of her home turf, she is not going to let this opportunity go. Alda might not have her natural speed with her fleshy appendages, but she has enough of her natural talent to command the waves enough for her next attack!
