#1 of Sly Cooper

A short and lovely story about the cunning raccoon and the fox inspector who is always chasing him.

Midnight hadn't struck yet in the beautiful city of Paris and the cunning raccoon known as Sly Cooper already made another addition to his collection of stolen art. This time it was a closed helmet from the Army Museum of Les Invalides, which was decorated with gold patterns and, of course, was worth a fortune.

The thief put the helmet in the backpack he always carried and left the museum the same way he entered, without anyone noticing. Once he was out, the raccoon moved quickly through the Parisian rooftops, headed to the Cooper Gang hideout.

Since the police weren't in sight and he was not being followed by anyone, Sly decided to rest on one of the roofs. The raccoon sat behind a big chimney, left his reliable cane next to him, and took his newest acquisition out of his backpack to admire it under the moonlight.

"Such a nice piece you have there, ringtail" that unmistakable voice immediately drew a smirk on the raccoon's face.

It was none other than Inspector Carmelita Fox, Sly's nemesis. She was pointing her shock gun at the thief, as in most of their past encounters.

"You of all people should already know about my expensive taste, Inspector Fox" he slowly raised his hands while keeping the smile that made Carmelita grit her teeth.

"You're not getting away this time, Cooper, tonight you'll sleep behind bars" the fox slowly approached the criminal.

"Oh, you've said that way too many times, Carmelita"

"Well, this time I mean it...I'm gonna wipe that smirk off your face" she skillfully grabbed her handcuffs while still pointing at him with her gun.

Sly let Carmelita take the helmet, which she put in the raccoon's backpack before the fox cuffed him around a pipe so that he couldn't use his hands.

"Are you gonna take that back to that corrupt museum?... I thought you'd rather your favorite criminal keep it" he mocked the inspector while she was taking her phone out to call for backup.

"I don't have a favorite criminal, you're all the same scum"

"Well, I bet you don't go around giving nicknames to every bad guy you catch" murmured Sly.

"Cooper!" a distant voice interrupted them.

"Friend of yours?" asked Carmelita while putting away her phone and focusing on the grey wolf that was approaching them.

"Not really, he's the guy I stole the helmet from, well, he was the first one to steal it, then he did a shady deal with the museum's director for a ton of money, but I'm sure he's mad anyway" explained the thief.

As soon as Carmelita turned around and started walking towards the wolf, the raccoon managed to take the lock pick he had under his cap and started to free himself from the inspector's handcuffs.

Meanwhile, Carmelita tried to reason with the wolf.

"Cooper, I'm gonna kill you!" screamed the grey wolf.

"Sir, I'm Inspector Fox with the Interpol, Sly Cooper is in the custody of the Interpol so I advise you to not interfere"

"Get lost, cop lady" the wolf tried to shove Carmelita away, but she was quick enough to grab his arm behind his back, dodge an elbow, and punch him in the stomach, creating some separation between them.

While the fox and the wolf kept fighting, Sly had already freed himself. The thief grabbed his backpack and his cane and proceeded to leave, thinking that Carmelita would take care of the wolf, but when he turned around to take a last look he saw how a kick to the gut caused Carmelita to fall down the inclined rooftop and be left hanging from the edge of it.

"Carmelita" the raccoon didn't think twice, jumped, and hit the wolf with his cane.

Sly ran straight to help the inspector, but the wolf grabbed him by the jersey and pulled him back.

"Give me the helmet or say goodbye to the lady" the grey wolf threatened the raccoon while blocking his path.

The thief took off his backpack and threw it in a way that the wolf would have to move aside to catch it. He immediately slid down the rooftop to help Carmelita and let the wolf escape.

"I've got you, I've got you, Carmelita" Cooper smiled relieved after catching the fox right before she fell.

A few seconds passed as they both looked at each other while catching their breath.

"Cooper, help me up" Carmelita broke the silence.

"Oh, right" the thief helped the inspector get back on the rooftop.

Carmelita tried to put one of her feet on the edge of the roof but slipped. Luckily, Sly was quick enough to surround her with his arms and pull back, making them both fall on the rooftop, one on top of the other.

A mixed feeling of relief and safety that she hardly ever experienced when she was around the cunning criminal filled Carmelita's body as she felt the thief's arms surrounding her as his chest pressed against hers while they both calmed their agitated breathing.

"Are you okay?" asked Sly as he sat up.

"Yeah..." sighed the fox "...thanks, ringtail"

"You're welcome, Inspector, but after this, I hope you'll stop denying having a favorite criminal," said the raccoon with a charming tone of voice.

"Shut up" growled Carmelita as she looked away and covered part of her flustered face, which gave Sly a clever idea.

"Are you hurt?" the raccoon worried as he got close to the inspector and gently grabbed her face to examine it.

"I-I'm fine, don't-" said Carmelita before being interrupted by the thief, who softly shushed her.

"You know, Carmelita..." he began to delicately caress her face and run his hand through her hair "...I was thinking that after such a heroic act you would offer this ringtail some kind of reward" Sly managed to charm Carmelita with his voice and his deep brown eyes while slowly pulling her closer to him.

One of the thief's hands went down her arm and the other one surrounded her lower back before he smoothly kissed the fox, who unconsciously closed her eyes and let a sudden wave of heat overtake her body.

The kiss was abruptly interrupted by the sound of the handcuffs Sly had previously escaped from, which were now around Carmelita's wrists.

"I know you have the keys in your pocket, I just need a few seconds..." the thief smiled as he got up and grabbed his cane "...goodnight, Inspector Fox" Sly winked at Carmelita before leaving the rooftop.

The fox quickly took off the handcuffs, grabbed her gun, and went after the raccoon, but the thief had vanished in the darkness of the night.

Carmelita nervously started to walk around the rooftop while she tried to calm her accelerated heartbeat down, which wasn't very easy as she couldn't avoid seeing Sly's smile every time she closed her eyes, the same smile the raccoon would greet her with every time they met.

It was obvious that their relationship was somewhat complicated. They felt an odd attraction to each other from the moment they met, but they knew that due to one being a thief and the other an Interpol officer, a romantic relationship between them was impossible. However, this didn't prevent them from creating a special bond. Sly enjoyed Carmelita's company, despite her wielding a gun in most of their encounters, and, as he had shown a few minutes ago, he cares about the fox enough to leave a valuable piece of art behind to save her. As for Carmelita, she wasn't always irritated by the sarcasm and flirting of the raccoon and, after all these years, ended up genuinely having feelings for Sly, feelings that she thought were mutual until the clicking sound of her handcuffs broke her heart.

The fox left the rooftop angry and embarrassed at the fact that the thief tricked her, so she tried to clear her mind on the way home. Once Carmelita arrived at her apartment, she changed her uniform for an oversized t-shirt and a pair of shorts, lay down on her bed, and stared at the ceiling while trying to fall asleep.

She closed her eyes and listened to the beat of her heart getting slower and slower when a sudden knocking on her door made her sit up. The fox waited for a few seconds to see if the knocks would repeat, and they did. Carmelita walked to her apartment door and tried to see through the door hole, unfortunately, it was too dark for the inspector to recognize whoever was standing in front of her door, so she grabbed her shock gun and carefully opened the door enough to identify who knocked on her door.

"Sly?... What are you-" her voice broke when she saw that the raccoon was seriously hurt.

The thief was panting, using his cane to stay on his feet with one hand and covering a wound he had on the right side of his ribs with the other.

Carmelita quickly helped him, she left his cane on the floor and walked him to her bedroom, the fox told him to wait while she put a blanket she grabbed from her closet over the bed, to avoid bloodstains. Then she helped him lie down and turned on the bedside lamp.

The inspector struggled to stay calm as she looked at the wounded body of Sly, whose breathing was shallow and agitated.

"Keep applying pressure," said Carmelita as she placed the thief's hands on his wound.

The fox rushed to the bathroom to grab the first aid kit she had in the medicine cabinet. She sat on the bed, between the thief's legs, and began to take off his clothes. First, Carmelita put Sly's cap on her bedside table, then she removed his bloodstained gloves and carefully took off his blue jumper, which was ripped and also stained by the raccoon's blood.

"Who did this to you?" asked Carmelita after taking a closer look at the wound and realizing it was a claw wound.

"I followed that guy back to the museum" answered the thief in a weak voice.

Carmelita soaked a few gauzes in saline solution and proceeded to carefully clean the wound while dealing with her slightly shaky hands. Once the wound was cleaned, the fox used a cloth to dry it and applied a thin layer of antibiotic ointment to prevent any infection. Finally, the inspector helped Sly into a sitting position and dressed the wound with a bandage.

The fox rested her hands on his shoulders and looked down as she took a deep breath. Sly, who was feeling much better, held one of her hands, but she pulled it away.

"What were you thinking?... Why would you go back for that stupid helmet?" Carmelita told him off.

"I didn't go back for the helmet" answered the raccoon as he scratched his neck.

"Wh-then why did you do it?" asked the fox, confused.

"I had to retrieve my backpack,'' admitted the thief as he looked at the floor, where he had dropped his red backpack a few minutes before.

"Your backpack!?... You almost got killed for your backpack?" said Carmelita as she grabbed it.

"Check the small pocket inside" responded Sly.

Carmelita did exactly as the thief told her. She opened the backpack and checked the pocket to find an impeccably conserved newspaper clipping.

"Interpol rookie Carmelita Montoya Fox promoted to inspector" she read the headline.

"It's a little souvenir from our first encounter, it also brings me good luck" smirked Sly before taking the newspaper clipping, folding it carefully, and putting it back in his backpack.

"I-wh-" the fox, who was lost for words, blushed as she gazed into the brown eyes of the raccoon.

Sly gently pulled the fox closer to him by her arm and rested his head on her shoulder.

"I'm so thankful to have you" confessed the thief after surrounding Carmelita's body with his arms.

The fox felt a sensation of warmth growing in her chest as the raccoon's tail fondled her back and his breathing caressed her neck.

"Sly... I..." Carmelita's agitated voice made him move a few inches away from her and look the inspector straight in the eye "...I think I should clean up this mess" she referred to the blanket, the thief's clothes, and the drops of blood on the floor.

"Oh... right..." said Sly with a saddened voice before falling back on the bed "...by the way, would you mind helping me go to the bathroom?, I'd like to clean myself," he asked while looking at his hands.

"Sure" she helped him up and walked with him to the bathroom door.

After the door closed, Sly washed his hands with a bar of soap while the fox cleaned the bloodstains on the floor with a damp sponge and a cloth.

"Carmelita" the raccoon called her from the bathroom.

"Yes?" the fox responded as she walked back to the room.

"Do you have any clean clothes I can wear?"

"Yeah, of course," said Carmelita before taking an Interpol academy t-shirt and a pair of sweatpants from her closet and handing them to Sly.

The raccoon thanked her and closed the door again, it was then that the inspector looked at her clothes and realized she also had to change them. Once she was dressed with clean clothes, the fox grabbed the blanket that covered her bed and the clothes that were laying on the floor and washed them.

After cleaning himself and changing clothes, Sly walked out of Carmelita's bedroom. She had soaked the clothes and the blanket in a plastic basin and washed them with soap and detergent.

"Does it come off?" curiously asked the raccoon as he walked towards her.

"It doesn't look like it," said the frustrated fox before giving up and drying her hands with a rag.

"Don't worry, I'll buy you a new blanket" chuckled Sly as he leaned on the kitchen countertop.

Carmelita rolled her eyes and looked at the thief's face.

"What's wrong?" asked the worried thief after the inspector stared at him in silence for a few seconds.

"Your mask, you're not wearing" observed the fox as she tenderly ran her fingers over the natural mask that the raccoon's dark fur drew on his face.

"Oh..." Sly realized he left his mask in the bathroom as he took it off to wash his face "...so what?" he nervously smiled as he felt the soft hands of Carmelita stroking his fur.

"Well, it's the first time I've seen your whole face" smirked the inspector.

"And what do you think?" the thief mimicked Carmelita's smug smile.

"You're so vain, Cooper..." Carmelita moved her hands down to his shoulders "...I'm sorry about before" she murmured after leaning her head on his chest.

"What?" said the raccoon, confused.

"You said how thankful you were to have me and I didn't even-"

"Hey, hey, it's okay, Carmelita..." Sly comforted her with a hug "...if there is anything you should be sorry for it's for making me fall in love with you the first time we met" he whispered.

After hearing Sly's words, the fox slowly pulled away from the thief's arms and stared at him with tenderhearted eyes. The raccoon smiled sincerely and tried to keep talking, but Carmelita leaned towards him and kissed him. Sly opened his eyes widely in surprise when he felt the soft and smooth lips of the inspector fondling his. The kiss was very passionate but brief, after a few seconds their lips separated.

"Carmelita, I-" Sly tried to talk, but he was interrupted by the fox again.

"No hables" the inspector begged him to stay quiet and get carried away by passion before pulling him closer and kissing the thief one more time.

This time Sly closed his eyes to savor the pleasure of the kiss more, he also pulled Carmelita closer to him, close enough to feel her rapid and excited heartbeat as their lips melted in a kiss that they had been desiring for years. After what seemed like an eternity for them, the fox and the raccoon broke up the kiss to catch their breath. Carmelita gazed into Sly's captivating eyes as they both panted. She felt how the slightly nervous hands of the thief traveled up her body, from her hips to her cheeks.

The raccoon leaned in and tilted his head enough to keep their noses from bumping as his lips locked with hers. Carmelita delicately placed her hands around Sly's neck while enjoying the thief's tender kiss, which gradually turned more intense as the seconds passed. Their tails caressed each other's as the raccoon's wet tongue teased the fox's. Carmelita decided to retake the initiative by slowly walking across the room, without separating their lips, until she cornered Sly against her bedroom door.

The fox blindly reached for the doorknob, eventually, opened the door, and began to hurriedly lead the thief to her bed before they fell on top of it after they stumbled with each other's legs. Sly hurt his wounded side and broke up the kiss with a groan.

"Oh my God..." Carmelita worried and quickly checked on the raccoon "...are you okay?" she apologized while carefully placing her hand on top of Sly's, which was covering his bandaged wound.

"I'm fine, I'm fine..." Sly's words calmed Carmelita, who felt the raccoon's soft hand gently fondling her arm "...you have the most beautiful eyes I've ever seen" the thief complimented the fox, who just smiled and blushed.

Sly smoothly pulled the inspector closer to him and embraced her tenderly. Carmelita enjoyed the feeling of the raccoon's hands running through her hair and surrounding her waist as she rested her head on his chest. They stayed like that for almost a minute until the fox saw the thief's cap on her bedside table. After that, the fox began to think about the things she didn't want to think about when she kissed Sly. All of their differences and incompatibilities came to her mind as she listened to the raccoon's calmed heartbeat.

"Cooper, what are we going to do now?" asked Carmelita with a downhearted voice.

"What do you mean?"

"You know what I mean, Sly..." the fox pulled away from the hug "...we can't wake up tomorrow and act like none of this happened"

"Hmm..." the raccoon sat up and fondled his lover's face "...then, what do you want to do, Carmelita?" whispered Sly with his seductive and irresistible voice.

"I..." her cheeks blushed with the thief's caress "...I just want to be able to be with you, Sly..." confessed the fox "...I want you to hold me, kiss me and love me...without having to worry about anything else" Carmelita's words left the raccoon speechless.

After a few seconds of silence, the fox pulled Sly towards her by his t-shirt neck and melted her lips with his in a kiss full of emotion and lust. Carmelita's hands smoothly slid under the thief's shirt and ran over his well-built chest.

Their lips separated when the fox removed the raccoon's shirt, leaving it in a way it would lightly immobilize Sly's wrists. The thief could have easily escaped, but he decided to play along.

Carmelita started caressing the raccoon's fur as she softly kissed him. Slowly, her kisses traveled down his body, tickling the raccoon's grey neck and, then, his bandaged chest. A flurry of chills tensed Sly's ears as he felt the inspector's hands, as well as her lips, going down his abdomen. He quickly freed himself and interrupted the fox with a hug.

"Carmelita, I don't think I'm ready for that yet," said the raccoon as he calmed his agitated breathing.

"Oh, I'm so sorry Sly, I-" the fox apologized as she tried to hide her flustered face.

The thief just smiled and lovingly kissed Carmelita as they fell back on the bed. The fox and the raccoon stared at each other's eyes before he pulled her closer to him and applied a few sweet little kisses on her neck, which sent cold shivers down her spine.

The couple felt the warm touch of their bodies as they exchanged a wide variety of signs of affection, such as compliments, hugs, and lots of kisses.

"I love you" were the last words the fox pronounced before her eyes closed due to the sleepiness.

"I love you too," whispered back the raccoon as he delicately accommodated her in his arms.

Sly and Carmelita enjoyed the cozy feeling of their embrace for a few more seconds until they finally fell asleep and began to dream about a future together.
