The life of a newly created Magical Girl is one shrouded in mystery, excitement, romance, and danger. At least, that's what anime and manga always told a certain young woman before it happened. 'It' is a loosely used term, because even the girl herself wasn't sure what happened. One morning, she woke up, feeling as if she'd been hit upon the head by a tidal wave of unicorns wrapped in barbed wire.

Her memory was all but erased, except for the most important things like how to eat, sleep, breathe, etc. As far as she knew, she'd always been what she was now. Of course, she knew that wasn't true. There was even a new name, already picked out for her and planted in her head. It wasn't her name, but it was the only one she had, so she stuck with it.

Xandria. No last name. It wasn't an abbreviation for Alexandria or anything of the sort, it was just 'Xandria'.

The new name wasn't the only oddity. Her body had changed as well, in ways the formerly human girl thought impossible. Namely, she had a certain something between her legs that your average vanilla human female did not. Despite the memory loss, there was an abject certainty that this was new, this was not there before she woke up like this.

Things on her first day as a 'Magical Girl' only got weirder as she found herself seized by some invisible force and whisked through a suddenly appearing portal in the middle of her room, her body adorned in a pristine set of heavy white and gold armor, a tower shield as tall as she was attached to a hook on her back.

Later, she found herself back in her room, having just defeated an obscenely huge turtle-demon hybrid that had risen from the earth to attack the outskirts of Las Vegas through what felt like sheer, dumb luck. Her entire body hurt, her mind was fatigued, and her energy was just gone.

She hit the bed face-first and slept for twelve straight hours.

That was only the first day.

Deep under the sea, a civilization unknown to the land up above thrives. There exists in the dark abyss where humanity's scientific curiosity and relentless need to conquer hasn't yet touched a beautiful city of spiraling towers and infinite fathoms.

And for the first time since their emancipation from the world up above, the people of Atlantis face the fear of invasion.

The small drone pings through the tenebrous darkness, mapping the sea floor and discovering an anomaly most unsettling to those in the Aquatics Institute. The multitudinous spires are not natural mountain ranges, but reveal themselves to be the constructions that they are.

As it moves closer, a figure zips past its camera, spinning the submersible out of sorts. After a moment of catching itself, the camera picks up one last signal, an angered female figure jamming a trident straight into the camera.

No one at the institute could figure out what exactly it was that they saw on the final transmission of the submersible, and they spent a week of fervent debate and research attempting to identify and debug the strange and alien images that were witnessed by the machine, but none could hope to ever get the Holy Grail of this mystery--the drone itself.

That is, until one day, it's tracking system pinged, and it was close to the shore.

On an overcast day, drizzling with the start of a storm, a heap of metal flies out of the ocean and lands with a crash upon the boardwalk. Following it is a webbed and scaled hand, and following that, the angered eyes and flattened, kelpish pink hair of its owner.

The undersea champion wriggles up from the water, slamming her trident down onto the wood and lifting her toned body up, water dripping down her scaled muscles. The few storm chasers and exercisers who enjoyed the gloom now run in terror as she slams her weapon upon the ground, puffing out her chest and pointing her thumb to her heart. "Your challenge has been accepted, land-dwellers! I am Alda, champion of Atlantis, and I have come to retaliate against your acts of aggression for our glorious undersea world!"

Ten seconds pass.

Then fifteen.

Then thirty.

But from the sky, there is suddenly a gleam, a glittering spark of light that rapidly closes in on the beach with such speed and brilliance that it threatens to glass the sand upon which the beach was made!

That comet strikes down on the ground, causing a massive upheaval of grit and moisture. In the very center is a woman, aged no older than twenty, wearing pristine white plate armor and donning a massive tower shield, all trimmed in rose-gold.

It would have been a lot more majestic and impactful of an entrance if she had landed on her feet, instead of on her armored ass.

The peach-haired girl struggles to get to her feet, grumbling something about "random calls to action" and "too new for this bullshit."

The mermaid myrmidon clasps hard upon her weapon for support, her hair flopping in the wind that the magical woman's entrance created, but standing firm, despite the slight waver and wiggle of her scaled tail. She gulps and grabs onto the railing of the boardwalk, pointing her trident at the newcomer.

"So," she says, tilting her head back, smiling a sharp-toothed grin. "You're this world's champion, then. Once I defeat you, I'll prove that we are naturally superior to your land dwellers once and for all! Then, we shall claim these lands and spread our empire from here to the stars!"

"Gimme a damn second, ugh!" The magical half-angel almost shouts in frustration, slamming her shield into the sand and using it as support to pull herself to her feet, shaking sand out of the various creases and folds in her full-plate armor. Its pearly coating seems to repel the golden grains all on its own.

"Oooohhhookay, what the hell am I dealing with here?" She ponders, finally standing and situated enough to focus on.. A green-scaled fish woman who is busy shouting something? Truth be told, she hadn't been listening all that close.

"You and your kind always think you can throw your garbage into our territory, wrecking our homes and polluting our beautiful natural wonders, well, no more!" Alda strikes the wreckage of the explorer and sends it flying at the angelic woman. "Today, I take back from these pathetic land-dwellers, or I am not Alda, Atlantis's Champion!"
