Odd Job

A fight scene featuring two friends of mine! Took a while to make since it's first person and I'm not used to that. Hope y'all enjoy.

I can't believe I took this job. Seriously, exploring the woods early in the morning for a disturbance? Feels like a job for the cops, but alright. I find myself today deep in the woods near a wealthy sergal. From what I can gather, she owns a large section of the woods. Not really sure why though. Nothing really exciting exists in the woods outside the city. Maybe she has a bunch of livestock or something? I'm not too sure. All I am sure about is that this place gives me the chills. Winter or not, something here definitely does feel wrong. I can't help but adjust my jacket and bag. Just keep moving Button. No need to freak out. Just find out what's wrong, deal with it, and you get paid. Easy rent money.

Just gotta keep moving till I hear something. Or smell something? Why do I smell smoke? Is there a damn fire!? I book it instantly to where I can smell burning and look around. The very first thing I notice is a massive burned spot. Black as night, the spot looks fairly fresh. Maybe a few minutes or so? The rest of the area has splinters and other debris spread around. Did...did someone blow up a tree? Maybe there were some punks back here. I think that's a pretty solid guess. Kids with pipe bombs. Always a valid excuse.

Or it would be if I didn't just hear what sounds like a lightning strike nearby. I jump at the thunderous noise, notably not accompanied by an actual storm. I can hear more after the boom of that strike. Sounds like a struggle. Lots of growling and yelling. So I am not dealing with pipe bombs and some irresponsible teens. Definitely something more dangerous. Maybe I shouldn't head over there. I could head to the fight club for rent. Who needs this job? Not me! Another sound shakes that sure resolve though. It sounds like choking...Whatever is happening, I can't just leave if it means someone might get seriously hurt or worse. Plus that sergal might get hurt if this boils over to her house. Ugh. Just great.

I sprint over to the noise I hear and find two very odd individuals. The first is a very tall and very pissed off looking rabbit. He seems to be the source of those lightning strikes, judging by the amount of electricity sparking from his body. I need to keep that in mind. If he's the source, I don't need him overloading me with extra electrical energy. He seems to be holding the other source of noise. I... can't tell what it is though. Like they look like some kind of bone dog thing? A skull for a face, and this weird black mist coming from them. It's off putting. Eldritch in a way...

I hesitate to get between the two. It's clear that they've been fighting, but I can't tell how long. Neither looks overly injured,so it couldn't have been too long. A violent hacking noise snaps me out of thought. The rabbit is really choking the life out of the weird bone dog. Actually I think he's doing more than just choking them. I think he's breaking their neck! Oh hell, this just went from a mild inconvenience to serious real fast. I bolt over to the two and yell out. "Ayo chill! Yo let them go!" I call out as I run to get closer. The rabbit doesn't seem to hear, and the dog is struggling less and less. Okay. Gotta do this a little more forcefully I guess. As I close in I clench my hand into a tight fist. Soon as I'm close enough I bring my fist across the rabbit's face. Hard. I hold back just enough not to knock his head off, but it clearly staggers him enough to let go of the bone dog. Their body hits the ground lifelessly and as I check it I don't feel a pulse...

He killed it. Okay, so this has clearly escalated past what I thought it was gonna be. Like WAY past it. As I stand up from the corpse on the ground, I can hear the rabbit gruffly say something. "AYO WHY THE FUCK DO RANDOM PEOPLE KEEP PUNCHING ME TODAY!?" He is definitely mad that's for sure. Turning to face him, I take a deep breath. "Yo I don't know who you are, but you're on private property man. And it looks like you just killed...um something? Look you need to calm down okay?" As I speak this guy is staring daggers at me. If looks could kill, I would have been turned to ash by now.

"Man FUCK that private property bullshit. The woods are the woods! Now come here, you about to get what that dumb dog got!" The large rabbit starts to make his way towards me as he speaks. Instinctively, I begin backing up. "I'm not trying to fight man. Look let's just calm down and-" I'm abruptly cut off by this guy going from a brisk walk to a full on sprint at me. Okay I guess asking the clearly pissed rabbit who I punched to calm down was a bad idea.

Well, looks like talking is off the table. This guy is fast. TOO FAST. I can't outrun him so a fight is the only route forward I guess. Never had to actually knock some sense into someone. As he throws his first punch I quickly side step, tossing my bag away towards some trees as I do. Don't need it weighing me down. Just as quick, this brown rabbit turns and begins really trying to lay into me. I block the first strike he throws and instantly realize this isn't going to be easy. He is crazy strong. Maybe only slightly below my own level currently, but given his ferocity I doubt that matters much. I can't take too many hits from him. Too much of a glass cannon. Need to get an upper hand. Which is not easy given the current situation. He won't let up! Even if he's pissed, this guy knows how to fight and really has me on the backfoot. I gotta start getting dirty here.

Ducking under one of his hooks, I quickly shift to his side. Wrapping my tail around one of his legs, I yank it off the ground to throw off his balance. As he tumbles I grab his face and lift him up by it. He is not a fan, a fact he makes certain I know after kicking me in the ribs. Grunting, I toss him hard to the side. He skids across the ground until hitting a nearby tree. Damn that kick hurt. I rub my side as I look over towards where I threw the guy. Yeesh...Did I toss him too hard? Looking closely, I can see him getting up. Didn't throw him hard enough it seems...

"You fuck that hurt! Stupid ass nigga...Imma really fuck you up now!" The rabbit yells angrily as he barrels towards me again. Okay time to get a bit more serious. This guy can take a beating clearly so I'll have to really be on my toes. Close to me again in no time, he swings on me much quicker than last time. Not trying to let me slip through his blows again I guess. Sucks since his plan is working. I can barely dodge a lot of these punches! They seem endless and come from every angle it feels like. Best I can do is block, but even then I still take blows to the head and side on multiple occasions. And it HURTS. A lot actually. I need some space but throwing him again will be hard. But punching back will work out if I do it right. Clearly he's way more durable than I thought. So I shuffle back a bit as he continues to lay into me, leading the mad hare along as I do. Just keep him moving, back and back... I can see it on his face. He's growing more frustrated that I'm trying to get away. Or well he thinks I'm trying to get away. Exactly what I want. He reels his fist back for a big swing and I make my move. As soon as he swings, I shift my body close to his dodging the punch. Before he can recover for another I shoulder check him to stagger him a bit. Then...BAM! I slam my fist into his chest and send him flying deeper into the woods. I can hear him cursing as he flies but can make out much.

I sigh in relief. Finally a chance to rest. I'm sure that guy will make his way back but at least I got a second to breathe. I feel a bit low on energy, some batteries from my bag should help. Walking over to it, I reach in,take out two,and pop them in my mouth. I can feel myself getting energized almost instantly. "Ok I should be able to finish this once he gets-" Craaaaack.

A spine chilling sound cuts off my thought. SNAP! CRUUUNCH! CRAAACK! I can feel my body freeze up. That sound. It's like bones breaking or...reforming. "Hhhhhhaaa....Ashhaggahhh" An eerie groaning begins behind me. I can feel my heart racing, even though my blood feels cooler than the winter air. Turning, my eyes widen. Terror like I've never felt starts taking hold. That bone dog thing...is standing up. It's body twitches unnaturally as it continues to force it's mangled neck back into place.

CRAAACK! SNAP! SNAP!!

I can barely believe it.

CRUUUNCH!! CRAAAAACK!

It was dead.

SNAP! CRAAAAAAAAK!! CRAAAAAAAAK!!! CRUUUUUUUUUNCH!!

I checked it's pulse and there was nothing.

Snap.

A final snap signals it's revival. For a moment there's not a single sound in the forest. Like time has stopped. I stand in shock and terror as the beast lowers its stance to being on all fours. Its sockets are empty yet it seems to be staring at me. I can't tell. I can't know what's going on behind those empty eyes. I need to go. I have to go. Just being around this thing makes me feel like I'm going to die. Very slowly I lift a foot and take a step back. And then instantly regret that decision.

"SKEEEEAAAAAAHHHHH"

A bloodcurdling screech cuts through the air as the beast's eyes change. No longer empty they show nothing but a blinding rage. Scarlet red, they pierce my very soul and cause me to turn and try to run. It had different plans. I can hear it running up behind me and then pounce. Turning again, I see it in the air, mouth agape ready to strike. My body moves more on instinct than thought at this point as I raise my arm as the beast lands its attack. Falling to the ground, I'm only slightly protected from it's dagger-like teeth thanks to my winter jacket. But the teeth are the least of my worries. As it grips my arm and shakes it like a chew toy I notice something. My coat is burning. Or more accurately, melting. This thing's spit is acidic!? What the hell does that sergal let live in this forest!? Panicking more, I don't bother holding back as I bring my fist to this thing's head. A loud cracking noise fills the air as it is sent skidding across the ground. Quickly I stand and throw off my jacket before the acid reaches my arm. Taking a deep breath, I can only relax for a second before hearing scurrying on the ground. Looking I can see the monster is already regenerating from that last hit. It's fractured skull merely moves back in place as it tries to refocus its efforts back to me. That is clearly not something my fists can handle. Need to get ol' reliable.

I begin booking it to my bag as the skull dog recovers. Shifting a few things around, I'm greeted with a very nice sight in all of the day's madness. My trusty chair leg. Hopefully this puppy will help me get rid of the hell puppy. "Found you, you motherfucker!" Oh you have gotta be kidding me right now. The rabbit is back and he is more than he was before pissed now. His attention on me, he wastes no time paying me back for the punch I gave him. A swift kick sends me sliding on the ground, clutching my chair leg in hand. Seems his reappearance hasn't gone unnoticed by the weird dog either. That thing just seems to hate everything. Or things that come into the woods? I'm not too sure. Though it seems to hate the rabbit more than me as it immediately goes to attack him instead. I can't help but think that won't turn out well for it given what happened before. But it gives me the opportunity to get a handle on the situation.

So I got a very pissed, VERY STRONG rabbit. And some kind of weird immortal skeleton dog with acid spit to deal with. Not exactly how I saw this job going but what can you do? Looking at them go is kinda fascinating though. The rabbit dude doesn't seem to really feel too much pain. He's definitely gotten cut and bitten, but is still in control of the situation. The skeleton dog is relentless though. Just throwing themself into the fray without a care. Guess you can afford to do that when you can't die. Still watching won't solve this issue. The two are still clearly too deep in rage to listen to reason. So the plan is still to incapacitate them till they calm down. Mulling it over a bit, I could help the bone dog beat the rabbit and then maybe if I hit it hard enough to blow its head apart the longer regeneration process will give it time to relax too. Not my most solid plan, but I'm not working with the most here.

Standing, I run over and hit the rabbit in the stomach with my chair leg. I hear him gasp for air a bit before he turns to look at me. Before he can do anything though, the monster cuts at his side with their claws, making him jump in pain. Once again capitalizing on the opening I slug him again with the chair leg, across his face this time. This is going good now! He's on the back foot and the skeleton dog is distracted. Whaling on him like this should have him out in no time. Just gotta keep this up and everything should be fi-

"GET THE HELL OFFA ME!!"

I feel...energized? Too energized! Rolling across the ground I very quickly let out a burst of energy. Where'd all that electrical power come from!? Looking back towards the rabbit I get my answer. I forgot. I heard lightning when I first saw him, and now he's using it. He's standing with the bone dog in hand, seemingly killed again by an extremely powerful electric shock. Lightning pours from his body, as he stares at me. His eyes are glowing red now. Oh I have very much fucked up. Tossing the skull dog aside, he makes his way towards me again. His pace is that of a menacing walk. Now I have a new problem. I can't touch him too much or let him hit me too much. And if he was fast before... Ah hell. Best I can do is just expel the energy as he gives it to me and hope he goes down first.

I steel my nerves and prepare to face this... This titan of a rabbit once again. Without so much of a word, he shoots a blast of electricity at me which I promptly block and absorb. His electricity feels so heavy in my body. Dense almost. No wonder it gives me so much energy. I let it out in a burst again as he gets close. From here things turn into a real brawl. I can barely think. My energy levels shoot up and drop down more times than I can register. I know I hit him a few times and he hits me back. But I can't tell if I'm winning. It's all a blur. Then suddenly I feel a pain in one of my legs. Looking back I see the dog of the damned again. Biting down on my leg. I try to scream, but am quickly cut off by the rabbit grabbing my head. Lifting me, I feel him yank the immortal off of me. And then he shocks me. It doesn't hurt but it's too much energy. Too much. Too much. TOO MUCH. TOO MUCH.

TOOMUCHTOOMUCHTOOMUCHTOOMUCHTOOMUCHTOOMUCHTOOMUCHTOOMUCHTOOMUCHTOOMUCHTOOMUCHTOOMUCHTOOMUCHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA-

........What? Where? I sit up a bit from where I'm laying. I'm still in the woods? Looking around, the ground around me is scorched black, as are some of the trees. Looking at my arm I can see some of my fur is purple. Must have been able to discard most of the extra energy in time. Before I...I shake the thought for now. Listening, I can still hear a struggle. Those two are still fighting. Unsurprising. At this point I can't say I'm scared or nervous anymore. I'm annoyed. This has officially gotten way out of hand and that sergal is gonna have to pay my damn medical bills. I'm putting an end to this nonsense.

My leg is in pretty rough shape after that bite. Luckily not too acid damaged, but still hurts like hell. Sneaking back towards the fight, I can see what happened in my absence. The rabbit is still going berserk, but it seems like that dog has started taking its toll on him. He's covered in cuts and bite marks now. Still up though. Guess rage eases the pain. The skull dog seems to be getting winded. Guess being immortal doesn't make them immune to getting tired. This is gonna be my opportunity to turn this around. Using my tail, grab my bag while they're preoccupied and grab my first aid kit. It's not much but it'll help. I use it to patch up my leg and move to get ready to end this odd as hell job.

The trees hide my approach as I get behind the rabbit first. He's gotta go down first. I can't risk him overloading me again. Taking a deep breath, I run up behind him and jump on his back put him in a choke hold. He seems to try and electrify himself but I slam him to the ground before he can. A shriek from hell tells me the monster is after me again. Quickly I roll to the side, dodging their lunge attack. Locating my discarded chair leg, I wait for it to get close again. And low and behold, here they come running. Swiping at me, they are desperate to get me. But since they're tired, I simply keep stepping back before slamming my chair leg through their head. Bright turquoise, almost aquamarine, blood spills out of its mouth and the wound. My hand is covered in it... If I didn't know this thing was gonna revive itself I'd probably freak out more. But right now I twist and stir the chair leg around in their head. I need this thing gone for a bit. No more sneak attacks. Grabbing its tail, I drag it over to the rabbit who has been trying to get up this whole time. He's gripping his neck to try to regain his breath, and as soon as he notices my approach he starts shooting electrical blasts at me. Gripping the dog's scruff, I use it as a shield from the attacks. As soon as I'm close, I grip their tail tight and swing their body down on the rabbit, hitting him. I do this, over and over and over. Not stopping till the rabbit is no longer moving. Still breathing, evident by the frosty breath leaving his mouth. Breathing heavily myself, I notice skull face coming back to the land of the living again. Damn thing...I rip my chair leg out of their head and toss them behind me. Turning to face it, I watch as it gets up and shrieks again. It's eyes are a haze of red as it beelines it to me. Gripping my chair leg tight, I stare them down. And as soon as they lunge at me...BOOM!

I can hear the leaves of the trees rustle wildly from the shockwave. My body feels a great deal weaker too. I collapse to the ground, and take a look at the scene. The rabbit is still out cold, still breathing. Not too far from him, the legs of that skeleton dog. Looks like that last hit turned their upper half into a brightly colored mist. The remaining stump seems to be regenerating, but definitely slower. Taking a look at my arm, the markings are yellow. Yeah seems about right, I used everything during that last hit. Also I notice my chair leg. Still intact. Hell yeah, that thing is my Excalibur. Never gonna break. I lay down my head and close my eyes. The air is nice and cold, and soon I feel my mind fade to nothing...

..........................................................................................................................................................

My eyes shoot open as I awaken from my nap. Rolling over I can see my markings are blue again. A sign of good rest. The sky is still somewhat bright too. Guess that means I wasn't out too long. My mind instantly jumps back to where I am. The woods. Where are those other two? I look over and am relieved. Both are awake, but more importantly they're both calm. The rabbit seems to be grumpy but isn't the rage machine he was before. And the bone dog seems mostly confused. Both of them don't have red eyes either. I could cry with joy. No more fighting for my life! Let's go!

"Aye you! You're awake now, do you know what's going on?" I hear the rabbit call over to me. His voice is still very deep, but noticeably lower in volume now. "Oh yeah just a second." I respond, getting up and going over to the pair. Once I'm a bit closer, I explain everything that happened once I got into the woods. Here they also explain who they are. The rabbit's name is Reese. I find that kinda funny. His fur kinda reminds me of a Reese's cup. Anyway, he tells me he usually takes walks out here when he wants some inspiration for his music or time away from his business. The bone dog,or well, lich calls themself Ash. Considering how much they rise from ashes, I guess that makes sense. They tell me that they live in this section of the woods, and don't appreciate trespassers on their territory. So it all comes together.

"So let me get this straight. Reese came into the woods for a walk and wondered into your territory. Right Ash?" I state. "Yeah that's right." They affirm. "Then when they told you to leave you said what again?" I look at Reese. "I said the woods are the woods. Nobody owns the woods!" He exclaimed. "Then when you wouldn't leave Ash attacked you. You used your electric powers to try and get them off but it didn't work and they bit you. That pissed off Reese, who then started to choke you out,Ash, and then you got pissed off seeing me when you revived. And then everything else happened." I piece it all together, the other two nodding in confirmation of the story.

Rubbing my temples I can't help but sigh. This whole situation is a mess. "Okay so. This section of the woods belongs to a rich sergal that lives not too far away. So technically neither of you should be here." I say, still a bit annoyed at the whole ordeal. "Sinoch..?" Ash looks at me puzzled. "Yeah her. You know her?" I look at them. Wait. Are they blushing right now? Because it looks like they're blushing. "She comes to the woods sometimes. Gives me food that I can't get out here. She's kind..." They explain. If I had to guess then I'd say she probably lets Ash live in this section of the woods. Why? I don't know nor do I care at this point. "Okay look. Here's what's gonna happen. Reese, you come with me out of the woods. I'll give you half of the pay Sinoch gives me for this job and we don't say shit to the cops. Ash, I'll have Sinoch get some fencing out here so that no one crosses over into your territory again. Sound good?" I lay out the offer. "Shit I'll take the money. I don't fuck with the cops anyway." Reese responds quickly. "... I'll allow it. Only if she says yes though." Ash replies. "Great. Now Reese, come here. I can at least dress your wounds before we head back." I say as I go to get my first aid kit. This has been a really difficult and odd day. Least it's over now. Maybe I need to change how I get my money though. Don't know what I'd do though. Maybe rob banks? ....Nah that sounds stupid.
