Hypnobear Week 2022: Bearbarian

Written by: TiranMaster

Strof grinned as he pulled the treasures from the chest, several pieces of gold falling out of his palm and falling to the ground, but what interested him most was the item in the middle. A golden bear fang sat in the middle of his palm, glowing with magical energies, a single rune inscribed upon the item. "Yes! I knew there would be something of consequence here," he chuckled, putting the gold into his pouch, but holding onto the tooth. It was tarnished with age, showing that it had been here for quite some time hidden in the box, but the magic had not gone bad with time. Alongside the item was a note, it looked yellowed with age, but it looked good otherwise from being inside of the chest.

Slipping the note into his bag, Strof glanced the tooth over for some sort of indication of what it might do, but his ability to observe what magic items did was failing him this time. Strof had learned the simple spell fairly early one, if you had one run in with a cursed item, then you learned quickly to make sure you weren't going to do it again. The artifact seemed too strong for his eye to divulge what it did though, so for the moment he slipped it in with his other loot, deciding that he would have to have a sorcerer in town look it over. That part chafed, he'd always hated having to pay others to look over magical items for him, he'd probably spend all of the money he'd just found in the chest to be honest.

"Still, no need to get myself nice and dead with a curse," the warrior sighed. Turning around, he looked at the giant ursine skeleton he'd been fighting mere moments ago. This entire cave was filled with a series of undead bear warriors, they'd been quite the challenge, and the leader of them all was by far the largest. Each of them had taken several swings at Strof that might have given him quite a bad day, but now he was here the victor with a magical item to show for it. "Sorry, lads, but I'll be taking my reward," he said proudly. Then with that, he started out, back towards town to get his item appraised and perhaps get a few bites to eat.

***

The spell cost more than Strof had been anticipating, when the elf had held the tooth, his face had grown curious as he'd looked it over for a few moments. The magic surrounding his eyes told the warrior that he was using the examine spell, but when the elf hissed under his breath he immediately grew anxious. "Three hundred gold, it's gonna take me all night to get this little beauty unraveled. Whatever spell was cast on this, it's old, and it's strong. The good news is, it's probably going to make you extremely powerful, but artifacts like these tend to have nasty little surprises hidden alongside them. Do you want me to start working on it?"

Strof was clutching his gold purse with a sour expression on his face, he'd only managed to get about sixty gold from that chest, and though he had the money... that was a lot. "Could you not do it for any less?" The look the elf gave him told him that he needed to be careful, or else he'd end up spending more. "Fine, I'll pay for it, just... get it back to me in the morning. I'm going to have to make this money back." Handing over the money, the elf nodded before retreating from the counter to start looking over the golden tooth underneath a special magnifying lens.

Turning around, Strof sighed as he could feel how empty his gold pouch was, tonight he wouldn't be sleeping in the best inn, that was for certain. Making his way out of the magic shop, Strof sighed as he went to the cheaper inn in town. It wasn't a bad place, but the beds weren't nearly as comfy as he liked, and after a day fighting against skeletal bear creatures he would've really liked to get a good night of rest. Still, it wasn't long before he was sitting at a table with a large helping of hot meat and a warm cup of ale to go with it. Setting his sword down on the ground next to him along with his shield and other burdens, Strof allowed himself to relax before taking a large bite of the delicious food. "This won't be too bad," he muttered to himself after swallowing it, to be honest the food was better here anyways. "Guess my fortune isn't too bad today."

Remembering the note in his pouch, Strof withdrew it and set it on the table, unfurling it carefully. The paper cracked and popped as it was unrolled for the first time ina long while, but it didn't deteriorate which was a good sign. Laying it out, Strof had to squint at the text as it was written in an old language. It was one that he'd read now and again, it wasn't uncommon, but he was certainly no scholar. It took him a while to decipher some of the words as there had been a little water damage done to the paper, but in the end he managed to make it out.

To ye who finde my last words, feel regret for the loss of oure kin. The years were unkind, many fruitless seasons caused us to starve. Still, we fought on for survival, and for oure pride. The elders of our tribe have spoken to me and have informed me that our tribe's demise is due on the morrow, a cruel truth that I cannot help but to grieve. I know better than to doubt their wisdom, so it is my hope that this letter will bring the last fonte of knowledge to a future people who may not even remember our footsteps in the worlde. I shall impart an artifact of substantial strength to ye who'd find our resting place, wear it with pride, and know that you bear an artifact of the Bearbarians.

If there was a name, it was too blurry to make out, but the letter was succinct in its message. Leaning back, Strof felt a thrill of excitement, an artifact and a letter like this might fetch a substantial amount of money from historians, if not mages. Of course, he'd have to give it a test before he could give it away, he'd fought several bear skeletons for it. Part of him felt a sorrow as he realized that they'd likely been the same Bearbarians that the letter had spoken of, but that thought was driven out when he imagined what sort of strength such a spell could impart. "Heck, maybe I'll get rich if that mage can learn how to copy the spell, we could be looking at a fortune!"

Deciding that such a find was a boon, Strof called out for another round of food, knowing that he might be extremely light on funds tonight. Depending on how his adventures would go tomorrow, and more so the find of what the bear tooth could really do, he could be a very wealthy adventurer soon enough. Images of a life of wealth swam through his head as he took another healthy bite of the meat, a grin always on his lips as he enjoyed the night's festivities.

Walking into the shop with a bit of a hangover early in the morning, Strof was met by the excited mage, his eyes practically glowing with excitement. "Before you say anything, read this letter, and I think I have a proposition for you depending on your news," Strof said, handing over the note gingerly. The elf opened the parchment, reading it over far faster than the warrior had been able to, and the grin that spread across his face echoed that of Strof's own. "Can we sit in the back? I think we could make a great plan with this, and... do you have any tea? I have one hell of a hangover."

The elf was only too glad to agree, he led Strof into the back, the human man downing the tea in an attempt to kill the hangover as soon as possible. "This is amazing, there are several layers of strengthening magics woven into this tooth. Honestly, it's mind blowing, most magics these days require far larger items to house this much strength. This is magic that was lost long ago, a small trinket of this size with such power boosting capabilities is astonishing. If I can copy this spell, we could become very wealthy men... though, I'd need your permission first," the elf said, looking hopefully at Strof.

"Your mind is on the same roads as mine, though before we can go on such a path, I need to test the artifact. You know as well as I do that if we start selling an untested magical spell, it could become extremely problematic, the inquisition could get involved." Both of them grimaced at the idea, the inquisition wasn't exactly popular with mages, they had a bad habit of chopping peoples' heads off when they stepped out of line.

"Yes... I've looked over the spell in great detail, and though there are a few aspects to the spell I don't yet understand, I can say with all certainty that this is an exquisite spell. There don't appear to be any downsides as far as I can see, it appears to instill a bear's strength, and that would be a great power indeed. To duplicate it though, I believe we need a proper foci to help render the spell." Some of the words flew over Strof's head, but he thought he understood the gist of what the elf was saying. Thankfully, the mage was willing to further explain what he meant in a moment. "I believe we'll need more bears' teeth to help impart the spell, do you have any idea of where you might find such things?"

That wasn't a problem, Strof's face split into a grin as he thumped the table with his fist. "I just so happen to know where an entire cave is full of bear skeletons, what better place to go for such spells?" The elf grinned in turn as they quickly went over their plan, the elf copied down the rune onto several parchments as he attempted to recreate the spell within the tooth. Strof on the other hand would go out adventuring for the day with the tooth, he would test it out, and then go to the cave and start collecting teeth. It was a perfect plan as far as both of them were concerned, and all they could think of was the gold to be made in the end.

After slipping the tooth about his neck, Strof immediately felt the magic, a bear's roar echoed throughout his entire body as his shirt suddenly grew tight. "Holy!" he shouted, his voice ringing throughout the mage's shop as he easily doubled in size. "That... that was unexpected," he laughed, looking in wonder at the muscles that had appeared in mere seconds. "Well... this is a bonus," he chuckled, noting that his codpiece was tighter as well. "What do you think?"

"I'm thinking there will be several markets we can capitalize on with such a spell," the mage said, his eyes wide and his smile enormous. They noted the effects down on some parchment before Strof left the building, he would be out adventuring for the rest of the day, though he did regret the fact that he couldn't go buy some better fitting clothes. Perhaps after the day was through, he'd be able to afford something a bit less tight.

The monsters that Strof ran into at first were simple things, absurdly simple, goblins fell with one swing of his sword as if they were nothing. Strof's sword actually flew out of his hand after one swing, he'd not been holding it as tightly as he should've, and the tree it hit was run through by the metal. "That... is insane," he breathed, walking over to look at the impaled wood. Grabbing onto it, Strof was worried he'd have trouble pulling it out, but the sword exited easily with a single tug. The warrior felt his blood racing with excitement as he realized how strong the tooth really made him, so he started off towards more challenging battles.

Finding monsters wasn't hard, finding dangerous monsters even less so, a giant scorpion had been a trouble for the village for the past couple of months. Strof had attempted to fight it once, but had nearly been poisoned to death so he'd opted not to try again until he was more experienced. Aware that this was dangerous, Strof still put himself to the test as he walked towards the giant hissing creature. Swinging his sword at it, Strof easily chopped through the armor of its tail, watching as the stinger flew away in a wave of purple fluid. Once more he was struck dumb by the sheer ease of the swing, and the enormous strength he was using. The scorpion nearly hit him due to his distraction, though it had lost its tail, the pincers were still dangerous weapons.

One of the pincers managed to clamp down on Strof's arm, and for a moment he felt a flush of fear as the powerful vice slammed over his arm. It hurt, that much was obvious, but not nearly as much as it should've. The skin underneath was reddened, but no blood sprouted from where he'd been struck, even the scorpion itself seemed stunned for a moment. The warrior took the opportunity to strike, cleaving the scorpion in half. A shocked and happy laugh bellowed forth from the man as he spotted several pieces of loot hiding underneath the creature, a small horde that would certainly refill his coffer. While he was happy about that though, a realization struck him when he saw his sword. The edge had been severely dulled by his strikes, it looked as if he'd been slamming the blade against a rock several times instead of just a few swings that day. "I'd best be careful, perhaps it would be a good time to invest in stronger weapons," he grumbled to himself.

Taking out a whetstone, Strof managed to put a good edge back on his blade, though he was curious if he even needed to with the sheer strength he had now. Scratching at his chin, he noted that his stubble was growing in, strange since he'd just shaved a couple of hours prior. Perhaps a small side effect of the magic, not such a terrible thing though, Strof would just have to start carrying a shaving kit with him. Collecting his loot from the scorpion's corpse, Strof continued onwards, looking for the next larger challenge. Such was much of his day, going after larger and larger monsters, waiting for the moment that his strength wouldn't be enough.

The scary part was that nothing seemed capable of holding itself against Strof's growing strength, he managed to kill several brutal goliaths with ease, and each of them fell in mere minutes. Strof's sword didn't survive though, during his third fight for the day, the sword shattered when it slammed against a wall. That had made the man fearful for a moment before he landed a punch on the creature, and when its head exploded he realized that the sword had likely been hindering his attacks. The golden tooth felt warm against his skin where it was touching, and yet it never felt uncomfortable there.

What was concerning was the fact that Strof was growing larger, his clothes had been tightening throughout the day as his muscles were packing on, he felt almost foolish walking around with his shredded clothing hanging onto him. Thankfully nothing fell off so much that he was nude, but it was quickly becoming apparent that he'd have to buy much larger clothing. " Bearbarians need no confining clothing." The thought struck him after looking at himself in a river, Strof blinked as the thought coursed through his mind, his gray eyes widening before he looked around.

"Is someone there?" he called out, waiting for a response, but nobody did. Strof frowned before looking back into the water, turning his head from side to side as he noticed how thick his facial hair now appeared. To be honest, he swore that it looked darker than his normal hair, not only that, but his body seemed harrier than normal too. "Perhaps this is going to be a bit more troublesome than I anticipated, I'd prefer not to look like a lumbering caveman..."

Deciding that there wasn't much to be done about it at the moment though, Strof went on more adventures, killing more monsters, growing larger, and feeling the pleasure of battle coursing through him. It was strange, Strof normally felt tired after a few battles, growing weary of the necessity of fighting. This day though, Strof felt invigorated by the process, so much so that at one point he'd needed to remove his codpiece and jerk off. It was embarrassing after doing so, but in the moment he'd been so overcome by the excitement and heat that he'd done so with a few grunts and moans. Wiping the spunk from his hand, Strof only barely managed to return the codpiece over his cock, aware that it had grown and darkened. "Perhaps there is something more to this tooth than I like," he noted, looking down at it warily.

The tooth glowed in the dimming sunlight, constantly hot against his skin, and though Strof was concerned he couldn't get himself to take it off. Now almost two feet taller than he'd started during the morning, Strof decided that it would be a good time to return to the cave from yesterday. "Retrieve the teeth, then I can return home. Hopefully these changes will revert once I remove the tooth, I'll admit that I don't enjoy the idea of sleeping on two beds." Thankfully, if he did have to sleep on two beds, the heavy jangling of gold in his pouch would make that easily doable.

It took Strof an hour to return to the cave, upon walking inside he was struck by a scent, one that he'd not caught the day prior. That worried the warrior, he thought that the bones might have deteriorated or some sort of predator had taken up residence. That wasn't so though, when he walked in, the bones were still there, and the cave was empty. The scent was still overpowering though, it struck him to his core as he stood within the cave. Though he knew he was supposed to collect teeth, Strof found himself walking back towards the room where the largest bear had been, where the smell was the strongest. " Come to me, you are almost ready." The warrior could hear the words, they resonated with the fang at his neck, the heat was growing stronger.

Stepping into the room, Strof saw the bones of the largest bear skeleton once more, but now he noticed something underneath it. A slight glow revealed a square underneath the skeleton, so with an easy brush of his massive arm, the warrior revealed a trapdoor. Opening it up revealed a small alcove hidden underneath, within were a few objects. The first was a massive warhammer, one that the day prior Strof never would've been able to hold, and the other things were a set of clothing. A black leather harness, a massive article of clothing, a heavy leather loincloth, and large arm bracers. They all smelled so strongly and... strangely famillar, Strof started to pull them out one by one as if by instinct. " The chieftain's clothing, the perfect uniform for the first of a new tribe."

A moan escaped Strof as his cock started to harden up once more, the thoughts were appealing, his nipples growing hard as a mental image of himself wearing them appeared in his mind. No... it wasn't him, it was a large masculine bear, large was an understatement. A massive bear with pierced nipples, a large ring hanging from his nostrils, and a thick beard under a masculine jaw stood wearing the clothing. He was wielding the warhammer with ease, and about his neck hung the same golden tooth that currently hung about Strof's own. "What's... happening?" Strof grunted, looking at the clothing with a growing desire to put it out.

" You are embracing the power of our kind, the Bearbarians. What you are hearing is the last vestiges of I, the previous leader, Roulstoun." The voice was deep, powerful, it made Strof felt comforted and horny all in one. " You shall be the new leader of the Bearbarians, the first of a new generation, the alpha that will procreate with other men and turn them into our species."

The image both aroused Strof, and horrified him as he realized he was being manipulated. "What in the seven hells are you talking about?! I'm no bear, and I'm not some pawn to be used by an old creature's soul! Get out of me!" Strof reached out and grabbed the tooth, hoping to tear it away, but found that it wouldn't move from his skin. The warmth pulsed into his hand causing Strof to grunt deep in his throat, watching in a mix of horror and fascination as his hand transformed before his very eyes. What one moment was a regular human hand, transformed into an enormous bear's paw, more human than a feral creature someone would see out in the wild, but still recognizable by the thick pad and sharp black claws.

The chuckle that rolled through Strof's head made him fall to his knees as his codpiece finally gave up the ghost, a thick dark cock rolling out from underneath, his sudden erection making the warrior light headed. " I will impart my lessons upon you, whether you like it or not. You are the one who chose to don my gift, and so you shall receive my blessing. The Bearbarians shall walk the earth once more, and you will be the vessel. I've seen your thoughts, and I know your plan. I approve of your taking our fellow bears' teeth to craft more artifacts, but first we must turn the elf into the second of our kind."

More images came to mind unbidden, flashes of Strof fucking the elf over the counter, transforming the elf into a Bearbarian. A deep growl of satisfaction escaped him as he watched the svelte figure of the elf ballooning into a massive bear, one who could still use magic, but could also take a pounding. New instincts were drilling themselves into him, Strof recognized a new need to fuck, to "procreate", he would have the ability to craft more Bearbarians by fucking his conquests. That's how the old tribe leaders had done it, and they'd only died off due to a severe drought in the world many centuries ago. Now there were plenty of people out there, all of them ripe for the taking.

" Yes, that's it, take upon you your new birthright. You will make for a great Bearbarian, embrace the magic." Roulstoun's voice was booming throughout Strof now, the man was looking down at the outfit, moaning as his enormous cock was dropping his changing seed upon the ground. The cave started to glow as the magic fully embraced the human, and the creation of a new Bearbarian fully took effect.

***

Folias, the elf mage, sat in his workshop late in the night, pouring over the scribed pieces of paper as he tried to memorize the spell in all of its complexities. It was surprisingly hard, over the years the mage had managed to memorize spells with ease, but this one was always trying to slip out of his fingers. Clenching the paper tight, Folias focused on the sigil, trying to get all of its power into his mind. Letting out a deep sigh, Folias dropped the paper onto the table, rubbing at his eyes before taking a sip of his tea. Glancing out towards the window, Folias frowned as he saw how late it was getting. "I hope that fool hasn't gotten himself killed, it'll be a great shame if I have to go out and find his body for that artifact..."

Tapping his fingers on the table a few times, Folias remembered that the gold pieces he'd taken from the warrior the day prior would likely still have traces on him. Standing up, he walked over to his purse and pulled out a few of the golden pieces. It didn't take him long to craft a tracking spell, pulling out a map of the local area, Folias set the golden coin upon the map and cast the incantation to see if he'd be able to find the warrior. Hoping that he hadn't just run off, Folias was relieved when the golden coin slid along the paper... and landed right on the town. "Oh... I wonder if he went to the inn first to get a night's sleep?" he pondered to himself.

That's what he was thinking right up until the door to his workshop slammed open revealing an enormous shadowed figure standing outside. Folias looked to the doorway with his heart in his throat, backing up despite himself. "Who... who are you?!" Preparing some defensive spells, he was ready to attack... until he saw the golden tooth hanging around the beast's neck. "You... you're the warrior?!"

"You may call me Strofstoun, the chieftain of the Bearbarians," the creature said in a deep tone. He had to bend low to enter Folias' shop, closing the door behind him as he loomed inside the building. Though Folias had a large workshop, the ursine creature's massive body made the room look positively tiny. "I'm glad to see you still awake, mage, it will make this all the easier." His voice was a deep bass, he was wearing new clothing, reminiscent of that of barbarians, but crafted of a high quality material. That didn't matter though so much as the enormous change the human warrior had gone through in just a day.

A massive black furred bear with a thick beard stood before the elf, and though he wore a large loincloth it bulged lewdly with the promise of a great manhood behind it. "What... what in the world has happened to you?! That... that tooth..." Folias' mouth was dry, his heart was in his throat, something was dreadfully wrong here.

"I have been awoken, the Bearbarians are reborn through me, and with your help we will spread like wildfire through the land." Taking a pouch from his side, Strofstoun threw it onto the counter and bears teeth spilled out of it across the wooden surface. "There are more back in the cave, but I wanted to bring these as a starting point. We have other business to attend to though before you start on those." Strofstoun smiled, or at least Folias thought he did, he'd never seen a bear like the creature that stood before him. More than that, he was a creature radiating such powerful and sexual energy that it made the mage extremely uncomfortable.

"I... I think you need to leave." Folias conjured a couple of fireballs, both of them hovering in the air before him. "It's clear that the tooth is a cursed item, one that is too nefarious for me to even consider crafting. I'm sorry you were caught up in its curse, but I will not aid you."

Strofstoun wasn't scared though, instead he just chuckled as he started forward, Folias didn't hesitate as he threw the fireballs at the Bearbarian. When they stuck his chest though, the magic fizzled, Strofstoun grinning wide showing off his large ursine teeth. "The ages have forgotten, but Bearbarians are nigh immune to magics. Our pelts easily beat off the power of spellcasters, it's what made us such a formidable foe in our past. Don't worry though, the change does not rob spellcasters of their power. You will be just as capable with your power when your transformation has finished."

That horrified Folias, he turned in an attempt to run, but it was no use. Strofstoun's massive arm length made it easy for him to grab the elf, and within seconds his clothing was torn from his body and tossed aside into a pile. The elf's mouth was covered by a massive paw, his eyes wide as the chill of the leather loincloth pressed up against his bare rear. "Do not worry yourself, elf, you're the first to enjoy the touch of a Bearbarian in thousands of years. Enjoy yourself, you'll make for a great shaman of our tribe." Folias tensed up as the loincloth dropped to the ground, and he felt the massive flesh enter him with surprising ease. The Bearbarian's cock was lubed up from his multiple orgasms over the last few hours, and though the bear's cock was huge it slid in with minimum effort.

The elf's entire body was tense as he felt the bear start to pump into him, his eyes wide as he felt something enter into him magically, a powerful curse beating its way into his soul. Though the mage had never seen its like before, he recognized the magic as a powerful transformation spell, and he wouldn't be able to resist it. Already his body was starting to grow, his cock starting to harden, his mind fogging with the intrusion of new thoughts. The Bearbarian chieftain's deep growling grunts only served to turn him on as his own eyes fogged over, the magic of the Bearbarians taking hold.

The sound of balls slapping against flesh soon faded as fur spread across the elf's asscheeks, the small mounds of flesh ballooning into an ample furry rear. His own small grunts soon rolling out into deepening bear grunts of his own, the pair were soon slamming through the weak wooden pieces of furniture throughout the room. Folias could feel his mind expanding though, the magic that he'd been unable to understand earlier clarified with the new knowledge being fed to him, it wasn't as hard to comprehend as he'd thought. The power of the Bearbarians would allow him to craft more of the teeth, to help revive the Bearbarian people.

A pair of roars echoed from the two as they came in unison, their muzzles pressing together to kiss deeply cutting off the sound. They were both aware that they couldn't let the townspeople know what had happened, not yet, there were only two of them. Gathering up the teeth and the tools that he would need, Folias stood up and grinned at his chieftain as the giant black bear pulled his loincloth back on. "This will be a great start, chieftain, I'm glad I can help in the rebirth of our people."

Turning around with a smile of his own, Strofstoun grabbed the other Bearbarian's arm in a familiar motion. Not one that either had done before this, but one that echoed in the memories fed to them by the spirits of their ancestors. "We will rebirth the Bearbarians one conquest at a time, my friend, we will start with the teeth. Then we will enter battle and take our comrades from the ranks of our enemies, one fuck at a time." They grinned before kissing once more, their enormous bodies pressed together for a few minutes before they prepared to leave. The townspeople wouldn't know what had happened to their resident mage for quite some time, not until the Bearbarians came out into the public eye once more.
