Chapter 1

Written in a single afternoon

"Uniqueness isn't hard." - AverageAvenue

"I love you so much." Skylar tells me.

I'm shocked, I didn't even know that he was gay. "Y-You do?!"

He kisses me.

I wake up.

I hadn't even been sleeping, I'm lying here giggling to myself. Imagining what it would be like. Purely fantasising about that wolf with white fur, hugging me from behind with his strong arms. His chest tight and fluffy with muscle. His bulge slowly growing against my backside...

Oh, hey! I almost forgot to introduce myself! I'm...

...

I'm... sorry just give me a second... Hi! My name is...

I wake up fully and step out of bed, which is soooo cold because the streets this time of year are beginning to get all rainy and mushy.

I pat down the old newspaper from under me and tilt the umbrella so that water from the leaky alleyway isn't dribbling down onto my head.

I'm a fox. And a super cute and handsome one, despite not being very muscled out. A lot of orange in my fur, and some brown. My name is...

I frown because the half-eaten slice of toast I had found behind the bakery had grown some mould overnight. No breakfast for today.

I brushed my fangs, which is quite a task for a fox, mostly because of how long our muzzles are as well as the fact that I don't own any toothpaste or clean water. I wet the toothbrush in a puddle that's been gathering by my feet.

My watch beeps at me. "Oh no! I'm going to be late for school!" I laugh at myself and shove some of the wet paper into the old school-bag I'd found the other day to give it some weight.

The school isn't very far down the street so the walk is super easy. I pass all sorts of interesting furs and businesses, cafes and colourful bakeries.

"H-Hey." I clear my throat.

A few pedestrians cock their heads as they think I'm talking with them. I'm not.

"Hi... Er - h-hey, I'm..." I dig my claws into my side a little. "Not enough stuttering..."

What a shame that I'm late to school, too! My first day, and everyone will be laughing at me because I'm gay. Its an incredibly loud walk, because everyone seems very frantic and there are all these sirens that are flying past me.

I sniff and wipe my muzzle on my sleeve, still a little sick from last week's flu I'd gotten.

When I arrive at the school, its entirely engulfed in flames. The air distorts as heat rages through it, and I'm squinting, clutching onto my school bag tightly.

There's a crowd of young furs, all about my age - which of course is 16 - who are looking to be in shock, all wrapped in damp blankets with their ears charred. A few are crying. A few are making jokes to themselves to try and lighten the mood.

I walk past them and into the burning building.

The hot tiles of the floors slowly melt the bottoms of my shoes, which are already very worn out and missing the laces. Their leathery bottoms stick with each step I take to the blackened ground.

Smoke pounds down on me in thick waves.

I walk up the stairs, looking for wherever my geography class could be. I sigh, my paws shaking a little as I'm nervous about getting a detention for being so late to class.

"H-Hey." I say. And this time it is to someone, theres a wolf walking towards me. "You must be the new transfer student."

Its hard to see the wolf's face because he's wearing this crazy dark mask and a respirator, he looks to be in full fire-fighting gear. He walks towards with me concern in his step.

I outstretch my paw, taking some effort because I'm suddenly coughing a lot. "H-Hey... I'm..."

I wobble a little, and he's got his arms out to catch me.

"H-Hey... my name... is..." I shake my head. "F-Fuck... I-I've... I've forgotten. Jesus I've f-forgotten my own name..."

Eventually I'm so dizzy from the smoke that the world becomes a dark haze.

"I love you so much." Says the wolf.

"I didn't even know you were gay." I say.

"Well I am. I've loved you all along."

I creak my eyes open, my muzzle trembling for air that's being shoved down my throat an uncomfortably thick tube.

The surgical blanket over me isn't doing a good job at keeping me warm, but it seems to be a lot better than the newspaper. I'm wondering whether or not I can take it with me, when I notice the wolf sitting in the chair next to me, he's looking at me in sadness and concern. He holds his firefighter-helmet in the crook of his arms as an astronaut would.

He's also super hot.

"Damn it he's so hot he made my eyes bleed." - _WritingRainy _(The Cliche, The Squeakquel)

"Hey." He says softly.

I'm to awestruck to even respond. He's a solid jawed wolf with a fluffy pelt of dark grey fur. His arms are potent with thick muscle, the kind that comes over extensive daily training for a physical profession. But judging by how young he looks, his ears twitching and alert, his eyes this beautiful hazel brown, I'm guessing that he must just be going to the gym and taking proper care for himself.

As for his body, his six pack is prominent enough to define into his white T-shirt, which is tight against his huge chest. He still has his firefighting pants on, although the more I look at this wolf the more I want them off. His muzzle is occupied by this light stubble of wolfish fur and a crooked smile.

"You kept calling me Skylar." He says.

"D-Did I?" I respond, almost feeling as though I'm outside my body.

He shakes his head, and he looks quite sad and beaten down. "I'm not sure why you did that." He says, and I chuckle before responding with "Skylar's a character I read about in a story." And I'm careful not to drive details. "You remind me of him."

He isn't listening. "Not that, I couldn't give a shit about that."

My ears fold back a little, "O-oh..."

"I don't understand why you walked into a burning building and tried to go to class." He peered up at me. "Are you ill, in some way?"

I slowly shake my head.

"The scars all over you say different."

"I fell." I struggle from the mouthpiece. "A few times."

He seemingly had an a hundred mile stare. "You're lying to me."

I don't feel like talking about that, so I just decide to keep my mouth shut - well, open still, since I've got this dumb tube crammed in there. "No." I finally say.

He shakes his head a little, obviously still very distressed. He smells a lot like smoke, and I realise that the reason he's such a dark grey is because of all the soot that's fallen on top of him. His large chest slowly expands and contracts as he tries to calm down his own breathing.

"I'm gonna leave." He said, and stood up slowly. "Just... do you have anyone to ride home with?"

I shake my head weakly.

He slowly ponders for a second, and I realise that he's going to offer to take me home. His tails wags as he's deep in thought, and its strong and bushy. I blush at the thought of me and him so close together in a car, whether or not I'd try to touch his paw at some point in the ride...

He closes the door on his way out.

I blink a few times, trying to comprehend the fact that he just did that. I shovel my paws through my pockets and find my phone. Its a flip phone, the cheapest one available and thus the only one I could afford.

"Hey cutie!" Says Jess from the other end. "What's the dealio by favourite fox?"

"Nothing much... well... I'm in a bit of trouble. Are you-"

"Boy trouble?" She nags.

"N-No-"

"Aha! That's a stutter. Come on then, spill the beans, who is he?"

"This isn't about that..." I shake my head. "H-He isn't..." I stupidly add.

"Oh my gosh this is adorable. Who, where, how, what, now."

I took a breath. "He's a wolf."

"Fuck me!" The phone blares.

"W-what?"

"This is just like that story you're writing."

My mouth goes dry. "You've read that?"

"Of course, foxy." I can tell she's winking through the phone. "I love your writing, even though the smut scenes are a little..."

I rub my temples.

"... sudden." Jess finishes. "That's really not how sex works... all that... fucking strangers, sort of thing. Like, the fox and wolf pretty much just met in that, and then they kiss, and if that's not bad enough they fuck."

"They loved each other." I justify.

"They didn't even know each other's last names. Its not even love at that point, its just..."

I sigh through the phone, and lie back on the bed. Its firm, but amazingly comfortable. "... just what?"

"Just..." Jess struggles for some words. "... not how it really is."

I hesitate for a while. "Would you be able to pick me up?"

"... only if you tell me more about this wolf."

"He's... cute."

"I bet. And...?"

I smile and shake my head. "He's a fire-fighter."

She squeals through the phone.

"Masculinity is dead." - Kotynieniek

A few days later, me and Jess are at a cafe. She drinks a milkshake, I drink one as well. Normally I don't find the sidewalk-change to afford these, but today - since I've slept behind this place a few times and the owner knows me - I got a free milkshake that another customer didn't want.

Tastes awfully sweet, but what's sweeter is the paperwork that Jess is forking over to me. Her tail thuds in excitement against her wooden seat.

"Here is his phone number, his date of birth," She rummaged for a second, "An old copy of his passport, a fake ID he used last year, and most importantly: the address of where he's living right now."

"Jesus Christ."

"Amazing, right?"

"U-Um... yeah... just, I only asked for what his name is."

She frowned. "That's the only thing I couldn't find, so you'll need to get that."

"... at his house."

"Yup." She sipped her milkshake, before pulling out a bouquet of flowers.

I peered around me to make sure no one else was watching. "What the heck are those?!" I whisper frantically.

She giggled. "A gift. From you to him."

"That's really, really, gay."

"Dude, if someone saved my life I would marry them on the spot. Flowers are the literal least you can do."

"B-But he's super ripped." My face goes red just thinking about it. "He's way too... manly... for all that stuff."

Jess grins at me. "Who says men can't like flowers?"

My ears fold down and I realise my paws a shaking a bit, so I tuck them into the sleeves of my pockets. "Er - no thanks." I say before quickly shaking my head, "I mean, thanks... I-I... I just can't do this."

She blinked.

"I'm sorry."

"That's fine..." She said slowly, and I stand up to leave but she grabs my arm. "But take these for when you do." I grab the flowers off her.

The walk to his street is strangely easy, as though I've already passed by his house many times without even really realising it. It takes a lot of talking to myself to get anywhere close to myself, and when I get there I just walk straight past for a while as though I hadn't even seen it.

"H-Hey..." I mutter to myself every few steps. "Sorry about these, just thought I'd..." I cleared my throat. "Hey, man. Got these flowers for... just thought I'd get some flowers for you." I peered around in case there were any pedestrians. "Hey man, super dope flowers, right? Got these... got these for you."

His house was quite large, and old-fashioned in design. After a full day of working, I finally eased my nerves enough to walk up the driveway and to the front-door. There were a few cars parked in the driveway, all dusty and on their P plates.

I knock on the door, hearing a good deal of laughter coming from inside as well as bottles clinking. There's the roar of a crowd from inside, but since my alleyway is next to an apartment I can tell its just that famous sports channel on TV.

The door opens, and although I had imagined this scenario going a thousand different ways, my jaw drops.

The wolf emerges, and he's shirtless, pants pulled down just enough to expose part of his groin.

"Hey." He says softly, his eyes droop a little and he's got a beer can in one paw. "You're that fox."

"I'm that fox." I breathe, and of course I've completely forgotten the script that I'd been working on for the past hour.

"Hi." He chuckles.

I laugh too. "Hi." I'm sucked in by that smile, and I look his toned, bare body up and down thirstily. His fur is lighter now, and a little wet in places, he's obviously just come out from the shower and thrown something on to greet me.

"Nice body." I say, and my eyes quickly widen because it sort of just slipped out.

He frowns slightly.

"U-uh... I-I mean."

"Nah, that's fine. I already know that." His voice is suddenly very silky. "You really ought to stutter less."

My heart pounds in my chest, and it really sucks that I'm struggling for words as much as I am.

"Seriously. You're too old for it." He yawns and leans against the door, making the muscles in his bicep flex out. "What are you, fifteen?"

"U-um, just turned sixteen."

He shakes his head slowly, and his body wavers around slightly as though he's struggling to stand.

I peer past him into the darkness of his house. "Can I... come in?"

He thinks for a second, scratching at his wolfish ears. "No."

"...no?"

"You can't come in."

My heart is pounding, I should really just drag myself out of here, but its like his shirtless body is glueing me down.

His face lightens up and he chuckles into his own paw, his chest lightly shaking with laughter. "I'm just messing with you." He says. "I was actually kind of hoping that you'd stop by."

I smile shyly. "Oh... y-you did?"

He squints, scratching at his stomach, I'm staring at his abs and its making me salivate.

"Nah," The wolf finally says. "Not really."

He closes the door. And I'm beginning to notice a trend happening here.

"So... how was he?" Jess asks as we're midway through a movie at her place later that day.

I shake my head. "Love is really, really, tough."

She punches me in the shoulder. "Not exactly a Skylar, is he?"

"Not at all." I say.

The movie blares out a juicy sex scene that we'd been anticipating for a while now. It only makes me shake my head. "Such fuckin' bullshit..." I mutter, before chewing on a lolly.

_"Nobody wakes up gay." - _McGrew1

In the next few days, that wolf's body has been all that I'm able to think about it. Even the male model magazines that I found in a dumpster a few weeks back isn't doing the trick anymore.

They've all got too much muscle. Too much oily fur, too big a sheath and all that. I want the wolf, I want his decent, yet not stupid amount of muscle. I want that slick body that he's naturally earned for himself. I want his crooked, cunning smile instead of these perfect symmetrical ones plastered on the models. I want his strong arms holding me.

His perfect imperfections give me a hard-on whenever I think about them, to the point where its actually distracting to the story I'm writing.

Hey guys, sorry about the slow upload of these parts. Its my first furry story, so please just bare with me...

My paws are struggling on the typewriter. It's missing the N, the M, and a good chunk of the spacebar. It's a wonder that someone would just leave it on the street a few weeks back.

Usually I'd just leave my readers hanging for a while, as though it were some intentional suspense as opposed to my severe and sudden writer's block.

Going to release parts less frequently. Maybe once a week as opposed to every few days.

My paws hesitated, and I just had to add:

May have a love interest in real life, he's...

Shit, should I be writing this? I stared around at the alleyway around me, comfortable on the fresh - and dry - newspaper that I'd stuffed under me to keep my fur off the cement.

Eh, fuck it. Its only Jess who reads it anyways. I get a lot of random readers from around the world, but I'm sure they won't recognise me out here on the street.

He's a very cute wolf, but he's also very rude. Feeling kinda conflicted about it.

That's enough. I pulled the paper from my typewriter and made my daily walk up to the local Internet cafe which was just up the hill and next to the city's park, where I typed the parts up onto Wattpad and sent them off. I never stuck around to see the notifications or comments or anything. I got flooded with them, but they were all sort of the same thing.

A few weeks later, the new school - the local talk in all the newspapers I slept on - had finally opened.

Unlike the other school which had freshly burnt down, this one seemed a little bit more tolerant to random furs strutting around the campus. Which meant that I could peek into the classes and try to learn things without being caught as easily.

"Didn't your sexy fire-fighter boyfriend rescue you in a school?" Jess asked over the phone in one of our early morning chats.

"Yeah."

Silence from over the phone. "You... I thought you couldn't afford an education?"

"That's right."

"..."

"..."

"Um..."

"I was having an episode."

"I thought so."

I nod my head, "Yup..."

"Is this..." She sounds uncertain. "Is this still about your dad?"

"We're not going to talk about that."

"Ok, cool. That's fine. Coolio..."

"Cool cool..."

"Want to talk about school uniforms?"

I chuckle, watching a pedestrian's foot just narrowly miss my bag of possessions. "Absolutely."

A few days later, I've helped all I can to help Jess prepare for the high school's open day. Got her a really good looking dress, fitted her out. Turns out I'm really good with clothes, and buying them.

Just not with my money.

And not any clothes for myself.

"cool characters are cool" - _hammonddotel_

Oh, I've done a really inefficient morning routine before. Didn't tell you guys exactly what clothing I wear.

Shoes. Ripped jeans, and they're not ripped out of style. A hoodie that's dark and too baggy. I don't wear socks. The claws on my hind paws stick out of my shoes whenever I walk. I've had those same shoes for a few years, and they're not getting any bigger. I reckon its gonna start hurting in a few months.

My body is still growing. I hope I get taller. Maybe I'll muscle up and that wolf will let me into his house. Maybe if I work out hard enough I can get stronger than he is.

Then I'm thinking about the wolf again. Lying there in my alleyway, imagining how soft he'd be to touch. Rubbing my paws up and down his firm chest... he'd never let me do that... but it's still a lot of fun to think about. Then I'd go lower, if he was into that. Lower my paws down below his waist and around his-

"Dude!" Jess calls out, I tilt my umbrella around and adjust my blanket so that I can see her. She's standing on the street holding two coffees and waving out for me.

"Hey." I smile, and cough a little. "That for me?"

"No, I just buy two lattes for myself now." She shook her hips, obviously excited about something. "Yes its for you, foxy."

I brush the loose dirt off my pants and try to freshen myself up a bit. Scrubbing my fur back to a less dirty orange with some murky water.

"You're not going to believe the guy I sat next to yesterday."

I smile, shaking some water out of my tail. "Cute?"

"Better than cute. He's the hottest wolf I've ever laid eyes on." Her tail fluttered around her with excitement.

"A wolf?" I chuckled. "Of course."

"He's probably in the same pack as your wolf. I even asked him whether he knew a firefighter."

My ears pricked up. "And does he?"

"Yeah, he knows him."

"Hopefully your wolf isn't an asshole."

Jess shrugs. "Well, wolves are... stubborn." She says. "Give that fire-fighter a chance, he might grow on just grow on you."

I chuckle to myself at that, and realising that my pants are already tightening just thinking about him.

Yes, yes he definitely has grown on me.

I write that joke down quickly to chuck into one of my novels at some point.

The school is actually a lot nice than I imagined it to be. The campus built into where this raggedy old park used to be. Even the town around it has had a glow up, new news-agencies and restaurants opening up and anticipating the growing flow of students.

"Aw, he's waiting for me." Jess told me after she had checked a text.

A wolf came into view, obviously not giving a shit about the school-uniform judging my his collared shirt and dress pants. His tail was dark and fluffy behind him. He looked very smart. He looked very handsome.

But I didn't care too much about all that, my paws were in fists at my sides and my muzzle was hanging open.

"Hey." He chuckled as Jess ran up to him, and he squeezed her tight, swinging her around in the air.

I just stared.

The wolf pulled her into a kiss, before noticing me and grinning with that infectiously sexy smile, "You're not gonna start stuttering, are you?"

"Not the time." I mumbled, speed walking back to my alleyway. More than anything I just wanted to be under my blanket and away from the world. Writing something. Forgetting about how fucking shit this world is.

"Foxy, I'm... I'm sorry, okay!" Jess is hot behind me, missing a maths class for this.

"Not the time."

"When is the time, then? We need to talk about this!"

"I don't care." I grumble, tears forming in my eyes. "I don't care."

"Foxy..."

My voice is betraying me. "How could you have done that to me?"

"Done what?" She says. "I didn't even know he was the same wolf! Hell, he's not even gay!"

"Bullshit..."

"He's not gay." She pulls my arm to stop me, we're both now just standing outside a crowded restaurant, filled with a lot of adults taking some time off work. Jess crosses her arms in front of her breasts, her thin whiskers blowing in the wind. "He's not into you, because he's not like that." She sighs. "And listen, I get it. It sucks, and you like him a lot, and you're attracted to him. But... it turns that I really like him too, okay? I don't know what else to tell you..."

"You, out of all people."

"This isn't one of your stories, okay? I'm not just some badass sidekick for you. I'm not just some stupid cat who sets you up with your dream guy. That's not how life works, Foxy. I'm a person, I have needs of my own.

I stare down at the sidewalk.

"And so does he! And it turns out that he really likes me. He's a great guy. And... yes, it was shitty of him to act like that to you, to slam that door in your face. But maybe... maybe you just..." She breaths out, hot in the face. "... annoyed him."

Tears fill my eyes but I refuse to blink them out.

Jess's eyes widen slightly. "Sorry... I just-"

"No." I'm feeling very hurt, and my ears fold back as I try to contain myself, tears jitter in my eyes, almost asking to fall. "I guess I'll just kill myself then."

The next few days are very quiet for me. I spent my mornings scampering alone along the streets looking for unwanted things to eat and drink. Managed to charge up my flip-phone in one of the cafes, thanks to a kind fur who leant me their charger as they miraculously had the same model of phone.

I didn't text Jess. She didn't text me, and I most definitely didn't to talk with the wolf. I just couldn't deal with anymore humiliation.

I read a full furry story on Wattpad in that time. Well, I reread it, since its one of my favourites. There's this fox or something who tries to commit suicide but it then saved by the love of his life. Great writing, great plot. Fantastic emotions when the main character was trying to full from the bridge into the water at the beginning.

I consider whether that could make me happy. Falling off a bridge... but there's no bridges around here. Shame, too. I bet that someone would save me and I'd grow to love him as that other fox has.

But the wolf saved me.He saved my life, from the flames of that burning school.

How doesn't he love me?

On the last day of me and Jess's little rut, I get a message which I'll settle on as an apology for both of us. I had gotten a chest cold just the other night, as someone had stolen my blanket so I had to sleep in the alley with just my thin hoodie wrapped around me.

The message said this: "His name is Cole."

The next day, something incredible happens as I'm mashing away on my alley-way typewriter: a new pedestrian takes a right on the street and slowly walks up to me.

He's wearing winter gear and a has a cigarette perched in the corner of his mouth. He's also a wolf who is very familiar at this point.

I stare up from my blanket, eyes feeling groggy and sore from being as sick as I was these past few days. "What?" I say bluntly, but it comes out more as a croak. I dislike how his clothing takes the definition out of his well-earned muscles.

He watches me for a little while, the only movement being his tail as it swishes slowly behind him. Eventually, he bends down beside me and my muzzle is locked with that amazing musk that's stuck to his fur. His scent reminds me a bit of whiskey.

"You live here?"

"Y-Yes..." I hate myself for stammering right now, but I feel so weak. And this wolf isn't helping to ease my nerves.

He sits himself down onto the cold cement beside me. We're close enough for me to feel the warmth radiating off of him. He cocks his head and nods, "Jessica told me about your situation."

I blink, and the urge to cough is stifling. "Let me guess: You came to make fun of me."

His expression is so hard to read, its always just that indifferently crooked frown.

"No." He said softly. "Well, I'd make fun of you for other things," He shook his head. "but not this."

I didn't really know what to say, so I just peered back down at my type writer. I notice him reading along with me and I quickly pull the page out and add it to the rest of the pile of drafts all tucked under my hoodie.

"You wouldn't like it." I say.

"Why? Because it's a book?"

I make eye contact with a great deal of words involving 'gay', 'wolf', 'Skylar' and 'yiff'. "Yeah... and because its... you just wouldn't like it."

"Wolves read too." He says bluntly. "Do foxes like reading? Must be pretty easy with all that night-vision."

I hesitate before nodding.

"Good, then this invitation won't bore you." He takes out a double folded sheet of green paper and places it in my paws. I can barely concentrate as I grab it... I'm just wondering what it would be like to hold one of his paws in mine, to feel him squeeze me just to reassure me.

I read the invitation, and my jaw drops.

I've been invited to a five day long camping trip. Its all claims to be hosted in celebration for the new school opening, in order for students to bond and get along over a natural setting before the term starts.

This is the perfect chance, and I can't help but grin at the idea of being cuddles up against the wolf's warm body, with his soothing voice in my ears as we doze off to sleep. Smelling of campfire smoke and teenager lust. I wonder if I'll step just that little bit further, run my paws across his body until he shudders.

"I used my own 'plus one' for one of the wolves in my pack." He shrugged, and lit a new cigarette. "You should thank Jess, when you can. She really stuck her leg out for you."

"I don't know what to say." And I really don't, just a chance of getting out of this alleyway for a few nights has been a long winded dream ever since Jess's parents banned me from her place.

"Then don't say anything." The wolf stood up, still without as much as a smile. "Just start packing."

"(A blush) You're covered in fur. I'm pretty sure no ones going to notice." - Smiley7789

There really hadn't been that much to pack. I fantasise so rapidly about what could happen at camp that I can barely even sit down.

Also, me and Jess had begun to hang out again. The first time she saw me she ran up and wrapped her arms around me, saying how sorry she was. I had just hugged back and told her that it wasn't her fault, and it was coffee and contemplation ever since.

"Okay campers, rules are simple." Says one of the teachers, who's a strict looking bird with a mean beak. "No fucking on camp. It really is as easy as that."

There's a long hesitation from the crowd.

"Is that it?" Asks a random student from the massive crowd. I'm standing amongst everyone and am the least dressed for this, wearing my hoodie whilst everyone else are in snow jackets and expensive camping boots.

"That is it." Yells the bird. "Although that means that boys and girls must be in different cabins."

Almost everybody groans at this. I'm silently cheering on the inside, but then I quickly shut up when I realise that I have no friends here aside from Jess. And the wolf sure as hell isn't going to let me just roam along with their pack. In other words, I've got no group that wants me, and if these snowy forests could have an alleyway I'll sure as hell be stuck in it.

"Alright everybody, votes for groups will close in five minutes."

I spot the wolf watching me silently from across the crowd, surrounded by the dozen other muscular wolves all making up his pack. They're all large, and good-looking, and in brown black and white colours. Cole looks the best out of all of them. They howl amongst themselves in excitement, and discuss things amongst themselves, but the choice is pretty obvious: the pack will all stick together in one of the larger cabins.

The girl groups all seem to go first, including Jess who apologetically smiles at me before voting herself into some girl-friends she'd already made in her short time into high-school.

Sure, I'm feeling pretty sorry for myself, but honestly I'm happy just watching her have a fun time. Even if it's completely without me. Actually, you know what? I'm glad to not be getting in her way.

After four minutes, the only people who are still voting - although its not at all obvious amongst the hoard of excited teenagers - are the wolf pack as well as me.

They all walk forward, hyping each other up with all this excessively boyish prodding and poking. Cole throws me another quick glance before he makes his bookings on the time sheet. He hesitates, before discussing something with his group. They all chuckle lightly amongst themselves and he smiles his crooked smile at me and winks.

My ears tug down slightly, knowing for certain that he's making fun of me. Taking the piss out of the fox with no friends.

A few hours later, everyone has gone off to their respective cabins. And dark is cruising near, bringing about its biting cold breezes that dig though my hoodie like a hot knife through butter. Or a frozen knife through warm butter, is more what it feels like.

I shiver to myself, clasping myself a little, thinking back on this furry novel I had read a while back online. I had pirated a copy of it, because it was just that good. A camp for furries, the main character a fox (of course) who falls in love with this white furred wolf. And this wolf just loves him, cuddles him every day. Hugs him every chance he gets, any time he's cold, any time he's feeling sad...

The wolf I have in my life is laughing at me.

"Kid." Says the bird, who's gone out of the staff cabin for a smoke-break. "I know we have a pretty entrance, but can you go and do something..."

"I-I don't have a group."

She sighs, and walks over to the boards where everyone have marked out their allocated cabins. "Name?"

I open my mouth, but shut it after a second.

"Okie." She nods in amazement. "I'll just go with 'young fox', we don't have too many of that species this year."

She mutters to herself, and I watch as she traces an outstretched claw down the list of names, passing over the smallest tents for two furs, down across the medium sized tents designed to hold around four furs each.

Her claw suddenly stops on a name. I blink, she's stopped it in the section with the largest, most luxurious cabins.

"This your name?" She squints. "Ash?"

I shake my head and she rolls her beady eyes. "Didn't think so."

The wind blows around us and I shiver, its starting to get stupidly cold.

"Ooh, its got a little description." She puts a dainty pair of half-mooned glasses. "The fox who likes to walk through fire."

I squint. "Er - that's me. I-I think..."

"Have fun with the wolves, kid."

I'm feeling as though I'm not understanding anything today.

Judging from her expression, she's obviously not being payed enough for her job. "You know, that young wolf pack. They've signed you up to be in their cabin."
