Chapter Twenty

"A Visit To Grandpa's"

By

Furry Sith Lord

Leggo did a hard brake as he swerved and parked his car in a parking space next to his grandfather's property. Lyon and Ben were glad they had their seatbelts on as they lunged forward and were thrown back into their seats. Leggo wasn't the safterst of drivers and was the main reason Lou usually drove them everywhere.

Grandpa had his driveway filled with his own car so Leggo had to resort to street parking. Ben wasn't sure what to make of the whole situation because although Lyon kept telling him how awesome their grandpa was, he had heard that he hated boys that liked other boys. He wasn't sure how he would react to him dating his other great grandson. Ben could smell the apprehension off of Leggo too.

A large lizard walked slowly out of the house as it eyed them and its tongue flicked forward out of his mouth every few seconds. Lyon jumped out of the car and ran over to him and gave him a big hug.

"Grandpa!!!!" Lyon squealed with delight as the old lizard hugged the boy and rested his head on his then straightened as they walked back to the car. They held paw and claw as they approached the vehicle.

Ben looked in wonder and the old lizard saw his look and grinned slightly. Leggo sunk down into his seat as if to hide and Ben saw him blushing.

"Hello boys," Grandpa said to them as they then sat upright and slowly climbed out of the car.

"Grandpa," Leggo said weakly. The lizard released Lyon's paw as he reached out and hugged Leggo as the wolf stood there awkwardly.

"You must be the boyfriend of my great grandson, Tyger. Sorry I don't know your name."

"Benyamin but most species call me Ben."

"Well, Ben, then get over here." he replied and as Ben approached he reached out and hugged him and felt the tension the tiger felt, drain from him.

"Grandpa is a dragon! Isn't he cool?!" Lyon said and Ben took a good look and realized that he was a komodo dragon.

"You must be wondering how I fit into the family, yes?" he asked.

"Kinda," Ben replied weakly.

"There was a hurricane years and years ago. The damage was devastating. Well Leggo's grandmother was one of the survivors with a couple of her pups. I was part of an army detail sent in to help the survivors and then rebuild the city.

She lost her husband and a couple of her pups in the disaster. We met and we fell in love and I adopted her pups as if they were my own. Over time they grew up and started families of their own. Leggo's mother married a wolf firefighter but when he was still a pup his mother died from cancer. His daddy lost the will to live and started tak,ing stupid chances. Chances we warned him about because he was needed to raise his son.

Leggo was the only one to survive and the birthing complications was how we first discovered the cancer. When my daughter died I think we all wanted to die too. His father most of all! A couple of years later he was rescuing some cubs in a house fire and he got trapped and passed away.

We took in Leggo and raised him as best we could. My wife passed away of natural causes two years ago. I do what I can to keep living now that I have two great, and I do mean great, grandsons to look after."

"Sorry I never came to her funeral, Grandpa." Leggo replied as he used his paw to scratch the back of his head.

"Forget it! I have and you know your grandma would have wanted us to move forward with our lives and not dwell on the past. All that matters is that we're together now." Grandpa replied. Ben was in the process of taking his and Lyon's luggage out of the car when Grandpa went over to take them from him.

"No sir, I can manage." Ben replied but a look from the komodo dragon quickly silenced him as he stood still and the old komodo dragon took the bags from his paws.

"Boy," he said, referring to Leggo. "Get your ass in the kitchen so we can chat a bit. You boys get in the living room. My game shows are on and I wanna know everything that happened." he ordered and Lyon stood straight and saluted him.

"Yes sir!" He replied then he took Ben's paw and led him into the living room to watch the television.

Leggo and Grandpa made their way into the kitchen and the old komodo dragon placed a couple of mugs on the table and started boiling some hot water in a tea kettle. He then placed a couple of tea bags in the mugs as they waited.

"You know that little guy has been on the news? They've been showing clips of him playing football. He's quite good, you know." Grandpa said.

"I know! We're both very proud of him. When we first got him he was so messed up from what his parents did that we wondered if he'd ever recover."

"He has a good father and a great dad to look after him. It's no wonder he turned out so well. Even Tyger, I hear, is doing well."

"He takes after his father! If I didn't know better, sometimes I can't tell them apart." Leggo said with pride.

"So what is Ben like?" Grandpa asked and the mirth drained from Leggo's continence. Grandpa watched him carefully and turned as the kettle began to whistle. He turned off the heat and used an old worn potholder to lift the kettle and fill the mugs with water.

"He's a great kid and I'm proud he's dating my son...but..."

"But?" Grandpa asked, repeating what Leego said.

"It's too soon for him to be dating. I mean he's still just a cub and I'm,"

"Not ready to let him go?" Grandpa asked as he gave Leggo a knowing look.

"Yeah,"

"Can I offer you advice?" Grandpa asked as he brought some sugar and honey over. He filled his mug with a little bit of it knowing that Leggo would use up the remaining. His grandson has quite a sweet tooth. Leggo nodded then began to overpack his mug with honey and sugar.

"Let your boy grow up! The last time I tried standing in the way of my boy when he fell in love with a deer, I nearly lost him." Grandpa said as he went and kissed Leggo on his head.

"Wait? Dad wanted to date a deer?" Leggo asked and Grandpa shook his head.

"I mean you! Doofus." Grandpa said as he began to pet Leggo.

Leggo had a flashback of when he first told his grandpa that he and Lou had fallen in love. They had just graduated from Bearly Academy and Leggo walked around in his cap and gown. They had returned home and Grandpa was looking for a place to put his diploma.

"This is really nice boy," He said as he admired it again and Leggo blushed as his Grandma hugged him again.

"Thanks," Leggo replied softly.

"I think I'm gonna glue it to some wood once I measure and carve a border around it. Maybe even add some stain before I add it so you can display it with pride." Grandpa mused as Leggo stood there with his ears lowered.

"Grandpa, Grandma, I got something to say." Leggo said as he finally worked up the courage to speak. They both turned to look at him and his grandmother entered and sat on the sofa with a concerned look in her eyes.

"Go ahead boy," Grandpa encouraged.

"I've been seeing someone for about a month now and... I thought it was time to tell you about it." Leggo said as he looked at his feet.

"As I live and breathe." Grandma replied and she smiled as she put her paw across her chest.

"Seeing someone?" Grandpa said in a skeptical gruff tone. "Who is she?" he asked

"More like a him! You see one day he reached out and kissed me and I kinda liked it. We started dating but kept it a secret because we wanted to make sure it was real before we announced it to everyone."

"Oh," she said, a little bit startled, then she smiled back at Leggo. "So what's he like?"

"He's amazing and we have so much in common and I get bumps on my skin whenever he's next to me." Leggo explained as he tilted his head sideways and used his paw to rub the back of it. He saw his grandmother smiling at him but his grandfather had no reaction.

"Isn't this all a bit sudden? I mean your schoolwork should come first if you want to get a decent job. How will you live if you don't have a decent steady income?" Grandpa asked him. Leggo was starting to get annoyed as he felt the fur of his heckles sticking outward.

"He happens to be wealthy so that is not an issue!" Leggo angrily replied.

"Wealthy?! What do you think species will say? They'll say you tried to sleep your way to the top! Like you're some kinda gold digger chasing after his money." Grandpa said as he raised his voice slightly.

"Now dear," Grandma tried to say but they were ignoring her as they locked eyes.

"It's not like that!" Leggo shouted.

"Then what is it like?" Grandpa asked.

"We just want to be together." Leggo said.

"And that's fine but you got your whole life ahead of you, I mean what if this doesn't work out, then what?"

"We'll find a way!!!" Leggo shouted.

"... So how are you gonna rescue them?" Grandpa asked and Leggo suddenly realized he had been daydreaming.

"I'm not sure. I was told they'd kill my husband and my boy if I don't show up. All I know is that they don't have Tyger in their possession yet so I bet he has a plan forming. I know Lou would have a plan and since they are both alike, I know Tyger will think of something.

There is a chance I might not make it back. I hope I can trust you to look after Lyon for me if that happens. Ben still has his own family but he may stop by from time to time until he finds a new boyfriend." Leggo explained.

"I won't hear any talk like that! We are not a family of quitters! You'll return with my son-in-law and my grandson or so help me. I'll find a way to haunt you for the rest of eternity."

"If it was anyone else I'd say you were lying but knowing you, Grandpa, I believe you'd find a way." Leggo said grinning. He instantly swallowed the whole cup of tea in one gulp and a bit of it spilled on the counter. Grandpa watched but tried to not let it bother him.

They entered the living room where Lyon and Ben sat on their ankles, on the floor, watching the television. The favorite game show of Grandpa's was playing and Lyon had his eyes fixed as he was explaining it to Ben. Grandpa chuckled as he saw them.

"So Barker Lupus-BH and his Beauties are getting ready for the Yodeling Fur Game. In that one, you have to guess the price of three items. For every dollar you're wrong, the yodeling fur climbs up the mountain. If he reaches the top then he falls off and you lose." Lyon explained to Ben who only seemed half interested in it.

"Wait for the Yodeling Fur is a goat?" Ben asked.

"Of course! I mean who else climbs mountains?!" Lyon replied and they watched as a large brown bloodhound addressed the contestant and explained everything Lyon had just said but with a little more clarity. The Beauties, who displayed the items of the show, were all extremely sexy looking female wolves. Leggo hated to admit it but a couple were turning him on as he watched their diminished wardrobes.

"I gotta get going," Leggo said as he realized he had to tear himself away from watching the show. Grandpa acknowledged him but the boys didn't see to hear him at all. Leggo left feeling it was better that way but hoped this was not his last time with them.

Leggo arrived at the base camp Will had his team make while they waited for him. Tyger ran over and hugged his dad as soon as he saw him.

"What's going on?" Leggo said dumbly as he refused to release Tyger from his grip. Tyger showed no interest in letting go either. Will cleared his throat a few times but the two ignored him. They finally separated after what seemed like an eternity to Will and he was ready to get things finished.

"Get a room, you two." Will grunted as he stood there tapping his foot impatiently.

"Hey! If I missed my son then you can mind your own business!" Leggo shouted at him.

"Then do iot on your own time! You think we want to spend the rest of our lives in this ass of a jungle?!" Will retorted.

"Isn't that what you tigers do?" Leggo asked, then he whispered an apology to Tyger.

"Guys, guys! Let's get back on track. Right now we need to focus on my father... Especially if certain species want to get paid." Tyger said and both Leggo and Will bared their fangs at each other but quickly nodded and let the matter go.

"What do we know so far?" Leggo asked.

"From the intel I've gathered they keep switching between locking him in a wooden cage and dragging him into a hut. They have a couple of sentries that follow him and keep guard constantly." Will delineated.

"So far father has been OK but BH demanded that you and I surrender ourselves or they'll kill him." Tyger said and Leggo growled as his heckles were standing on end again. Tyger jumped in front of his dad and used his paws to stop him from rushing in.

"Dad, wait! I have a plan. It's one that I know you'll like." Tyger said smirking and Leggo looked down at him in confusion.

"It's not bad but I liked m y idea better." Will said.

"Which was?" Leggo asked skeptically.

"I think we should charge in guns blazing and take Lou back." Will said and Leggo rolled his eyes.

"What?" Will said but was quickly ignored as Leggo turned to Tyger.

"I figure we'll go in for a basic distraction. You and I will go to the center and demand a fight. A fight to control the tribe! Winner takes all and if we, or I should say 'you' dad, loses then we become their prisoners.

However while you fight, Will and his team sneak in the back and rescue father. Then with the tribe under our control we can dispose of BH and see how father thinks we should move forward with them." Tyger expounded on his plan.

"But what if I fail and he captures us?" Leggo asked.

"Seriously dad? Do you really think you'd lose to a light foot like him?" Tyger mocked.

"Hopefully your plans don't fall apart like your father's does." Will grumbled and Tyger and Leggo gave him a dirty look.

"OK so we walk in and I tell BH to fight me." Leggo said.

"Uh dad, why don't you let me do the talking. No offense but I want you to save all your strength for the fight." Tyger said. Will wandered off to get his team ready so they could circle around the back and wait for the fight to begin. Will had guns ready with tranks in case they needed to put the guards to sleep.

Tyger stood by his dad's side and his heart was beating rapidly as they waited for the signal from Will that his team was in place and they could enter the village to rescue his father. Leggo smelled of nothing and Tyger wondered how he could be so calm.

Grandpa managed to get Ben into his kitchen as Lyon was distracted watching the television and trying to find a board game they could all play. Ben knew this was the chance the old komodo dragon had been waiting for so he could interview him to see if he was worthy to date his grandson.

Grandpa was already full from his first cup of tea but he had himself a second and one for Ben as well. Sharing tea always seemed to relax whoever he was interviewing and Grandpa wanted to keep things friendly. Ben sat at the table as the old dragon shuffled around and prepared the tea.

He quickly refilled the sugar pot and got a new jar of honey, hoping that this lad was not like his own grandson and would empty them in a single cup of tea.

"So Lyon is almost exactly like my grandson. So innocent and trusting! You strike me as being more like Tyger so I think you know why I called you in here." Grandpa asked.

"Yes sir,"

"Don't call me that, I prefer grandpa like my great grandsons do. Do you understand?"

"Yes Grandpa." Ben said bashfully.

"Good, very good indeed. So, how long have you been dating?"

"About a year." Ben replied.

"And what do you think of my great grandson?" Grandpa asked and Ben became quiet and looked at his paws as he sat in a chair at the table. Grandpa watched him closely trying to figure out what was wrong.

"I know everyone thinks I'm not good enough to date him but I love him." Ben finally said.

"Who said you're not good enough?"

"I dunno. I just see how species look at me because my family kept me even though they don't want me... sort of. But Tyger and Lyon were sold and father and dad, they told me to call them that."

"That's alright." Grandpa interrupted.

"Gave them a home and they even welcomed me in also. I'm not rich or smart, like Tyger is, and not athletic like Lyon. Not even as much fun as Leggo is. I'm just plain boring old me." Ben said and the old dragon reached out and held the lad's paw.

"You are what this family needs! The boys take after their parents but you're completely different. You just be you and don't try to be like the others. We have enough clones in this family so now it's time for some fresh blood." Grandpa replied. Lyon suddenly burst into the kitchen.

"Come on guys, Tic Tac Go is coming on!" Lyon shouted and Grandpa turned to smile at him.

"I was hoping it was 'Wackie' on next." Ben replied.

"Eh? Which one is that?" Grandpa asked knowingly.

"That's the mole in the evil red outfit that likes to steal prizes and money from players." Lyon said.

"Hey Lyon, what do you think about Tyger dating Ben?" Grandpa asked.

"Ben's great but sometimes they're so lovie dovie that I can't stand it." Lyon replied.

"Hey!" Ben whined and Grandpa chuckled.

"Can I kiss your paw sir," Lyon jeered as he kissed his own paw.

"We are not like that!" Ben complained as he crossed his arms across his chest. Grandpa laughed then kissed him on his head while Lyon grabbed Ben's paw and pulled his arm to get him to follow back to the television. Ben reached out and grabbed Grandpa's paw and dragged him with them.

"But the tea's not ready." Grandpa said as he was looking for an excuse but when he saw Lyon release Ben then he went and turned off the boiling kettle then resumed in pullin on Ben's paw, which made Ben pull on his claw, he resided himself to his fate.

"I think you fit in well." Grandpa whispered to Ben as they sat on the couch and Lyon was setting up a board game as the television had the game show playing on it.

"The game is 'Prison Break Out' and you are trying to break out of prison." Lyon explained.

"Did I ever tell you about the time that 'I' escaped from prison?" Grandpa said smiling and Ben realized he was joking but it took Lyon a minute to catch on.

"Grandpa," Lyon whined as he realized he had been had and Grandpa was fibbing.

"No, really, but at the time I escaped I was wearing only my skin because I figured if I wore my prison outfit they'd know I escaped but if I was in only my skin then species would shun me and no one would know I escaped." Grandpa said and it suddenly made sense to Ben.

"You did not Grandpa," Lyon whined and the old dragon laughed.

"Well at least tell me I can still wear my clothes to play." Grandpa joked and Ben busted out laughing. Lyon looked slightly annoyed but it quickly passed as he started to explain the rules.

I stood holding dad's paw as we waited for Will to give us a signal. He had said he'd make the sound of a bird chirping so that the village would not catch on.

"Chirp! Chirp!" Will shouted and I shook my head. I thought he was actually going to sound like a bird but instead he just said the words 'chirp' as if it wasn't obvious he was up to something.

I decided we had to move in quickly because they must have heard that idiot yelling the word chirp. Dad was still calm as I led him to the center of the village and as we entered they watched us closely. We suddenly stopped as a couple of hunters moved to block our way forward.

"We are here to see The Reverend Lord," I said and dad turned to look at me. "That's the name he goes by here." I explained. Dad sank low to whisper to me.

"What did you and your father get me into?" He asked and I shrugged, not exactly sure how tro explain everything to him.

"Hopefully your plans don't fall apart like your father's does." I remembered Will's words and had a bad feeling things were not going to get any better.
