Jex asked suspiciously. "Sounds fun!" said Rita, sitting back down at the table smiling. "Great! Just a minute," said Sen, hopping up from the table and running down the hall to her room.

"What did you say that for?" Philo sighed, sitting back down at the table also, "Now she's gonna make us play again." "Oh come on," said Rita, "it's not like we've got anything better to do." The other two sighed and also took their seats again at the table. School was out for summer and things had been pretty boring lately for the five of them. Sen's parents had gone away for the weekend so the group of friends had agreed to come over and keep her company. Sen hurried back, holding a gigantic box in her arms with the title "D&D: Extreme Edition" written across the top, with the image of a huge red dragon behind it. Sen said excitedly as she set it down on the floor beside her chair and began to put the pieces for the previous game away. "Have you even played this one before?" Sen first pulled out the thick rulebook and set it on the table in front of her, then started passing out character sheets, along with a quick start guide page to each of her players. "Now just fill these out, and based on what you pick I'll give you some stuff you have to wear," she said, opening up the book and starting to read through it. The four players quickly followed the steps for making up characters, then gave their character sheets back to Sen, who looked them over and started removing their items from the box. "What about you Sen, what are you gonna wear?" Jex asked with a laugh. Sen blinked in surprise. "Me? I'm just running the game, not playing," she said, looking quite confused. "Well it isn't very fair is it, making us all dress up without doing it yourself." Sen tilted her head and thought about this for a moment. "Well, ok, I can make myself up a character, but you'll have to treat her as a follower. I can't play a character and run the game at the same time." Everyone nodded in agreement, so Sen quickly filled out a character sheet for herself and pushed it over to Jex, before picking out her costume and heading to her room to change.

"I think I like this game already," said Rita with a giggle, looking over the three boys. "Too bad hyenas don't eat leaves," said Jex with a laugh, "maybe Timur could eat a few of yours." "I thought you said this game wasn't gonna kill us all again," said Timur, looking over the dragon model with concern. "Oh he won't kill you if he catches you," said Sen, "you'll umm.. have to wait and see." Sen took out additional markers representing various items along with a set of dice as the players studied the arrangement of the game pieces. The item markers Sen placed at various locations inside the dragon's cave, while the player markers were moved out to the cave's entrance.

"Now you have to all decide how to begin," said Sen, leaning back in her chair with a broad smile. "I think we should run in and take the dragon by surprise!" suggested Jex with a laugh. Rita rolled her eyes and shook her head. "I don't think we're supposed to attack the dragon," she said, "we're supposed to be stealing the.. what was it?" she asked, turning to Sen. "The treasure!" Sen reminded her with a giggle, pointing at a yellow marker in the back of the dragon's cave. "Maybe I can turn us all invisible," Timur said, looking over his character sheet, then up to Sen. "Yes you can do that," said Sen, "but it has a chance to wear off every time you move." Timur rolled the dice and then looked back over to Sen, who added up the dice and nodded. "Yep, ok you're all invisible," she said, marking it down on her notepad. "I run into the cave!" shouted Jex, picking up the dice and rolling them. "Not again!" said Rita, burying her face in her paws.

"Can I run too?" asked Timur, but Sen shook her head, "You have to wait until after everyone else since you just cast a spell," she explained. "Well I use sneak so I don't wake the dragon up," said Rita, rolling the dice for herself. "Is the dragon even asleep?" asked Philo, watching what was going on nervously. Sen giggled. "Well you don't know that yet do you?" she asked with a smile. "Well, I guess I will sneak too," said Philo, picking up the dice as Sen moved Rita's model into place. "Gladiators can't sneak," Sen corrected him, "but walking would be quieter than running." Philo nodded and rolled the dice, and Sen moved his character along up to Rita's.

"So what about me?" Sen said, pointing to her marker still at the entrance to the cave. "Oh! You're going to run too, gotta keep up with me!" said Jex. "Fine.." said Sen, rolling her eyes. Jex laughed and picked up the dice again, rolling them for Sen, who nearly caught up to him when she moved. "Ok, now let's see if your invisibility wears off," said Sen, rolling the dice again. She sighed in relief and nodded on seeing the roll. "Ok, you are still invisible," she said, "but the dragon can hear you running, and looks around his cave to try and find you."

"Umm, ok, start another turn!" said Sen, looking around the table. "Can I run now?" asked Timur, seeming bored already. "Sure," shrugged Sen, and Timur picked up and rolled the dice. Sen added up the roll and moved Timur past Rita and Philo, nearly catching up with Jex. "Ok, let's all stick together now," said Rita as she rolled the dice to move and catch up. Philo rolled too, and with that, the four of them plus Sen's follower character were all back together again. "Jex what about you?" Sen asked, looking at him across the table. "I.." Jex began with a grin, "run to the back of the cave and grab the treasure!" "No!" shouted Rita "What are you doing?" "What we're supposed to be doing," Jex said, "stealing the treasure!" Jex rolled the dice and Sen moved his piece around the large dragon model, close to the treasure at the back of the cave. "And I suppose I am also running too?" she asked him with a sigh. "Yep!" Jax said, rolling the dice again for Sen. "Hmm," said Sen, looking at the dice roll. She picked up the marker for her character and moved it around behind the dragon, not quite as far as Jex.

With another turn out of the way, Sen rolled for invisibility to wear off again. "Uhoh, she said, as she looked at the result of the dice. "What uhoh?" Rita asked nervously. "Well invisibility wears off and the dragon sees you, now we have to start combat!" Timur groaned and Rita shook her head. "This is gonna turn out just like last game, isn't it?" Timur whined. "I sure hope not," said Philo with a gulp.

"Ok," said Sen, flipping through the rulebook, "First the dragon attacks everyone in front of him and you three have to roll to save your armor." "You mean an armor save?" Timur asked, confused. "Umm, kind of!" said Sen. "Timur since you are wearing cloth armor you need a 3," she explained, placing a die in front of him. Timur rolled and came up a 5. "Ok, you're safe," Sen said, grabbing a set of dice and sliding them over to Rita. "You get to roll twice, once for your skirt and once for your top," Sen explained. "And since you're wearing umm.. leaves, that means.. I think you need to roll at least a 4 on each," said Sen, checking her book. Rita picked up the dice and rolled them one at a time. "My skirt is a.. 4," she said after the first roll, "and my top is a.. 2.." she gulped and looked up to Sen nervously.
