Weight of a Name
By: A.X. Bueno
The weight of a name is a complex thing
It carries with it the weight of generations and all that that brings
For some that weight is a help and carries considerable power
For others it's a burden that can make life more dour
Which way the weight falls depends on how family life goes
As well as preconceptions that just come with certain names
There's also the alphabetical placement to consider when the weight is being proclaimed
There's a lot of factors that can create pride or shame
Regardless they all go into the weight of a name
Of course in the end it's you who truly gives it infamy or acclaim
Despite the weight and influence of past generations that can wax and wane
When it comes to those who don't know it's your job to define the heaviness of your own name
Of course that's no easy task to be done
But in the end it's worth it rather than trying to outrun family histories and preconceptions that you can't change
So remember despite all the circumstances and personal or family shame that it is ultimately you determines the weight and legacy of your name
