#10 of Counter Earth - Chaundoon Chronicles: Two Futures

The Story Thus Far: Two realities now exist where there was once only one.

On Free Counter Earth where the cataclysm was averted, the High Evolutionary reigns supreme; all opposition to his rule has been decimated. Now second class citizens face even more restrictions than ever before; severe restrictions- no human activity is allowed unless approved by the beastial populace. But during this unprecedented crackdown, there have been whispers among the human population that a new rebellion is forming. Led by someone who can defeat the beastial's high master where all others have failed previously freeing humanity from his oppression.

[AND]

On Conquered Counter Earth survivors of the cataclysm face a hellish new era of existence punctuated by lawlessness, famine, drought, hunger, thirst, disease, pain, misery and suffering under factions [ONE, TWO, The Monster King, The Countess and more] that are vying to replace the fallen empire. With the help of some friendly aliens, Alex and friends traded all of this for a enchanted planet in another part of the universe. There were conditions however- the Counter Earth refugees and their anointed king would have to keep the peace on their new home world. Something they are finding increasingly difficult as the resident tribes and clans on the planet have started behaving extremely out of character attacking, pillaging and plundering each other in recent months.

Previously:

It started on February 1st when World Seven was visited by massive rainstorms that hit the city with sheets and buckets of water. As the storm front moved through it left something behind; a single cloud that took up residence watering various parts of the city like a personal garden. It has done that for the last month and a half refusing to leave and now the old city is looking less like a city a more like a series of lakes [AND] on Free Counter Earth, the human scientific community is finding it increasing difficult to conduct their research under the High Evolutionary's ever increasing totalitarian rule towards its second class citizens.

Counter Earth Chronicles - Dual Realities

Chapter 10: Undone

March 15th YOE 35

World Seven (Chaundoon)

12:01 PM Central Tower. A new sovereign is being instructed on how to be a sovereign....

"Jua, I just don't feel it is necessary." Sorren said to the leader of the sand folk as their disagreement escalated.

"Sorren all leaders must have a security detail with them at all times." The white sand dragon said to her beau.

"I just don't think that I need one." The red dragon countered.

"Is that because you don't feel like a leader?"

"Well..."

"Well like it or not you are the Chado's chosen, the ruler of the combined kingdom, the keeper of the peace and the keeper needs protection." The duchess replied her eyes locking right on Sorren's.

"From what?"

"From his fashion sense for one." The white sand dragon replied belittling the white shirt and black shorts Sorren was wearing which contrasted with the beautiful all white toga with a gold colored band around her waist she was wearing. "And all potential dangers and threats to his health and safety."

"For example?"

"Like an allies who may have befriended a insecure, unsure of himself, newly anointed monarch so they can earn his trust under the guise of friendship and mu ha ha ha ha!" The she dragon shouted as she pounced on Sorren pinning him to the floor.

The goofy dragon was taken aback by the sand dragon's actions.

"Jua? Jua? You wouldn't? You couldn't? Could you?"

"Of course not, but do I have your attention now?" The dragoness asked looking over her charge.

"Well if you wanted to get frisky love all you had to do was ask..." Sorren said trying to make a joke of it.

"No, but watch this." Jua said clapping her paws.

No sooner had she did, their session within King Dragon's chambers was interrupted by two of the she dragon's guards.

"Duchess Jua is everything ok?" A short brown dragon holding a spear said as he entered the room.

"You called?" A light brown dragon asked joining his colleague.

"Mathias, Mattimeo until further notice you will be responsible for King Dragon's safety and protection as well as mine."

"Yes duchess." The brown sand dragon bowed. "It looks like someone was on the losing end of an argument."

"Yes duchess." The light brown sand dragon also bowed. "Most definitely."

The teachable moment was interrupted by the sound thunder.

"It is raining again- northside of the city this time." Sorren said as his squeeze unpinned him.

"As if that area needed more water." Jua replied.

He joined her at the window as they watched the soggy streets below.

12:31 PM Northwest quadrant of the city....

"Oliver Justice, Theresa Branch I can't allow you access to this area; it is not safe." The scorpion boy said blocking the wildlife researches path.

"Linias dear what makes it unsafe?" Theresa asked the junior knight.

"This section of the city is flooded. For your own safety I can not allow anyone to pass."

*Hiss* *Hiss* Sandu added.

"Um, we can't." The scorpion boy said to the fire lizard that was with him. "We are responsible for everyone's safety."

"Thanks you two but it looks like the rain cloud has decided to move on." Oliver said looking skyward.

The two humans and young monsters watched as the dark cloud stopped raining where they were and moved to the southeast quadrant as if it were some type horticulturist selecting what areas of their garden to water.

"Theresa this way." Mr. Justice called out to his colleague. "It is good that the knights are concerned about everyone's safety."

The duo were dressed as if they were about to attend a safari- Theresa in a yellow shirt and brown pants with an orange scarf and Oliver in a orange shirt, with brown blazer and brown pants.

The two made their way to the storm cloud's newly selected target near the central tower. As they arrived they found a mongoose boy and his adoptive mother standing outside their townhome... being heavily rained on.

"Excuse me storm cloud if I could have a moment of your time." Professor Stern began.

Theresa and Oliver looked at each other and then the mongoose boy who just shook his head in disbelief.

"What is she doing?" Oliver asked looking at Theresa.

"What a flake." Corbin said just shaking his head.

"Mr. Cloud or is it Ms. Cloud? Right, anyway I appreciate the fact that you decided to visit and rain on our city. But it has been weeks! Now don't get me wrong Corbin and myself appreciate the rain but we have received so much that World Seven has exceeded the normal amount we should receive in a given year! Parts of the city are starting to look like a lake!!! Not to hurt your feelings and all. But could you please leave?"

As professor Stern said those words. The rains subsided.

"OMG, did her plea actually work?" Theresa said to Corbin and Oliver. "Did that cloud just listen to us?"

At that moment the rain resumed. This time much harder with claps of thunder and lightening.

"That would be a no." Oliver replied.

"We need to get inside." The drenched mongoose boy said grabbing his mother, and the wildlife researchers.

"I think I almost got through to it!" Dawn exclaimed wringing out her white shirt.

"I know you were hoping so professor. But um, no." Corbin replied.

Professor Stern looked at Theresa and Oliver who also shook their heads.

"One thing is for sure the city can't take much more of this." Ms. Branch said.

"But what can we do about it?" Oliver piled on.

The storm cloud gave a good forty minute soaking to the neighborhood around the central tower before moving on to the southwest quadrant of the city.

"It looks like it is has moved on." Dawn said opening up her front door.

Just down the street she saw a young yeti making a public announcement.

"Hear Ye, Hear Ye! King Dragon and the Colony Council have declared and emergency meeting!"

A few streets over Kip- Basil and Rose's son was doing the same. A few streets over from him, Little Gia and Tina were making a similar announcement, well it was really Tina.

"Yogi, what is going on?" Corbin asked his buddy.

"There is a big meeting in the council chambers to discuss the massive flooding taking place in the city."

"When?" Professor Stern asked the young yeti.

"Next hour." Was his reply as he moved on down the street to continue his announcement.

1:20 PM council chambers....

The emergency meeting was quite large as the council chamber was filled to the brink by residents of World Seven- King Dragon along with Duchess Jua of the sand folk. Colony Council members Shira, Song, Gia, Basil, Masha and Haem.

The infirmary medical staff including Alex Winter, Penny Penguin, Shakara, Nezera and Lilly Blossom. Members of the reformed knights core, Lady Ursa, Lady Barq, Commander Rhinox, Naka, Cole, Chemar, Commander Sanda, Kala, Gahri, Arugula, Tanya, T'hoka, Ananias, Linias and Sandu were in attendance.

School teachers Ms. Rose and Ms. Una and what was left of the Ghost Hunters Minka and Midnight Black.

The Wild family, the dalamatian family, Masha's cubs, Tina and Little Gia, Kiwi, Addy, Russell, Angi, Nikka, Yogi, Milton, Melinda, Pabu, Kip, the meerkats, Titanous, Gia and even Hue Manassas, Cassia Manassas and their charges Milo and Panda Lee.

Everyone was accounted for except...

"Where are Corey, Rumble?" Masha asked scanning the crowd.

"Black haired teen and werewolf are on sabbatical." A brown bear with a white v shaped birthmark on his chest volunteered.

"For how long Boris?" Ms. Rose asked.

"A week, month, year, forever hard to tell at this point." The he bear responded to Basil's mate.

"Well, I guess everyone is accounted for. Family, friends and community we are gathered here to discuss the storm cloud that has parked itself over the city for the last month or so and refuses to leave." A beautiful chakat began the meeting.

"Did you ever in your wildest dreams think you would be saying such a thing Song?" Shira a sabertooth tigress said asking her friend.

The chakat shook her head. At which point the colony's ruler stood up.

"The cloud has been continually raining on this city for over a month. When it finishes one section it moves on to another."

"The problem is sire is that it is revisiting areas it has already rained on." Gia replied adding her voice.

"When it does, the city floods." Sorren replied thoughtfully.

"And if the flooding continues sire..." Basil replied looking at his mate and adopted son.

"Well we will be using boats, rafts and gondolas to move about."

"I see, pretty soon we may be calling World Seven, the Seven Lakes." King Dragon joked while he was elbowed by his main squeeze. "Um, yes by a show of paws, hands and whatever, who has been affected?"

Nikka and Russell were the first to respond. "Our bed and breakfast is nearly underwater your majesty." The she skunk volunteered. The miniature horse nodded.

"Schwee!" Addy added.

"Our home is flooded." Mitsa volunteered. "Lune, Luck and myself have been living out of our bakery."

"We are in the same situation." Meena stated. "Tilikum, Gluay, Khai and myself have been living in the central hanger with the prototypes."

"That is the northwest quadrant of the city." Sorren said placing his paw under his chin as the six council members looked at him. "I am a loss, pretty soon our food supply is going to be affected. Does anyone human, beastial or monster have any suggestions?"

"The problem is how does one get rid of a storm cloud?" Ms. Una said thinking out loud.

"I did nicely ask it to leave." Dawn said answering the naga teacher.

"I take it, that it didn't listen?"

"It only rained harder." professor Stern replied.

"Alex and I have observed it for some time, in all seriousness, judging by its actions it seems to be intelligent." Shakara said to the council members and the king.

"There lies the problem we have inhabited this planet for only six months and there is so much that is unfamiliar to us- the two suns for instance." King Dragon said sounding wise and insightful.

"And the two moons." Commander Rhinox added.

"Actually three now." Sorren replied.

"Don't forget the thirty six hour days." Yogi added.

"Yes that too."

"And Duchess Jua." Lily Blossom threw in there.

"Actually I have become quite familiar with her." Sorren said bouncing his eyebrows.

At that moment the goofy sovereign felt the eyes of his subjects lock on to him, wanting him to say something- anything more.

"She has been vetted- personally." He blushed.

"Awwwww." The crowd replied to their king's embarrassed admission. The leader of the sand folk even blushed.

The meeting lasted for a little over an hour as a massive brainstorming convention commenced on how to deal with the threat to the city. But no one had any viable answers. But Haem did have a suggestion.

The crowd watched the multi-eyed octopus monster wave his tentacles signing.

"Haem that is a good idea." Song said to her fellow council member let's reach out to our friends and allies perhaps they could provide some insight and maybe some assistance."

As the meeting concluded Oliver and Theresa called over professor Stern and Corbin.

"Oliver?" The blond archeologist said to her fellow humans as Corbin looked on.

"I was thinking about something King Dragon said during the meeting- there is so much that is new to us on this world..."

"Well for the last few months we have relied on our friends and allies to help us adjust, help us adapt." Theresa added.

"None of them were present at this meeting." Dawn observed. "Except for the Duchess and her guards."

"Where is this going? You two have an idea?" The mongoose boy said curiously.

"We need to study our city's interloper in detail." Oliver said.

"That is a brilliant idea Mr. Justice, but what did you have in mind?" Corbin asked.

"Well when we were studying wildlife on Counter Earth we would take fur, claw and blood samples." Theresa started explaining.

"Not possible with atmospheric phenomena." Dawn Stern added.

"No, but we can do the next best thing."

"Which would be Ms. Branch?" The mongoose boy asked.

"We could use the sensors on our vehicle to take readings from inside."

"Which wouldn't be unlike how forecasters studied weather on Counter Earth." Dawn said. "When do we begin?"

"Tonight." Oliver said.

12:01 AM Southeast quadrant of the city....

"The target of this night's hunt is raining down on an already waterlogged part of the city unimpeded and unaware of the events that are going to take place." Oliver said to Theresa as if the two were actually studying wildlife.

"Please tell me you aren't going to treat this like one of our other hunts?" Theresa asked.

"Crikey!!! Will you look at the size of that buggar!!" Oliver said shifting his tone as Dawn and Corbin looked on.

"Oliver are you sure about this plan? I mean I am a botanist and you are zoologist we really don't study weather." Theresa said warning her friend.

"Neither are Dawn and Corbin, they are archeologists." He said rummaging through their gear on the bed of their truck. "None of our instruments would be applicable in this situation."

"So what are you going to do?" Professor Stern asked.

"Push the study of meteorology forward on this planet!"

"Meaning?" Corbin asked.

"I am going to fly right into the middle of that thing and use the hover vehicle's instruments to take measurements." The red head exclaimed.

"Anything we can do to help?" Dawn asked.

"No, you three stay here and supervise." Oliver winked at the two females and the mongoose boy as he climbed into the white pickup drove off.

"I don't have a good feeling about this..." Corbin exclaimed crossing his arms as the hover vehicle ascended to the sky on a direct course toward the cloud.

*KRACK*

"AUUUGGGHHHHH!!!!!"

"Called it." The mongoose replied.

12:14 AM Infirmary....

A female vampire bat was settling in to her shift when-

"Nezera! Oliver's hurt!" Theresa said dragging in a black charred something and placing it on a nearby examination table."

"Is that OLIVER?!"

"Present." ZZZTTTT "Present miss lady bat." The black charred mess on her table responded.

"What hurts?" The she bat said reaching for Shakara's triangular scanning device.

"Everything!" The lady bat's patient writhed still shooting small bolts of electricity from his body.

"And why is your everything hurting?" The vampire bat asked the two humans.

"Oliver was attempting to study the sentient storm cloud." Ms. Branch began.

"Study how?" The grey bat said as she started running the device over what remained of Mr. Justice.

"I piloted our utility vehicle inside the storm cloud."

"Let me get this straight you willingly flew your hover vehicle into a storm?!"

The human female and what was left of the human male nodded at the life support specialist.

"Well that was your first mistake."

"Theresa, Dawn, Corbin and myself were trying to study the storm raining on the city in order to stop making it rain on the city."

"Noble, but dangerous." The grey bat responded.

"I was taking some preliminary readings you know barometric pressure, temperature, windspeed, precipitation via our hover vehicle's instruments. Everything was fine as I entered- then the windspeed increased to hurricane velocity. I was blown around, I lost attitude control. The next thing I remember was being pulled from the wreckage."

"Interesting. I think someone or something did not like being violated."

"You mean the storm cloud?" Oliver shuddered as Nezera continued her scans.

"It is like giving someone an unwanted enema. You were expelled."

"Yup pretty much. The utility vehicle is a mess as is the building he was blown into. Fortunately it was uninhabited." Theresa volunteered.

"Lie still." Nezera ordered.

Oliver continued to moan as the vampire bat moved Shakara's triangular scanning device over him.

"Sorry, it hurts so much."

"That is because you broke your forearm, your foot, and a few ribs and you have been electrocuted... repeatedly."

"Is that all? So I will be up and around in a few days?" Oliver said trying to manage a smile.

The grey bat cut her eyes at him. "If this were Counter Earth two years ago- yes. However our medical science has regressed SIGNIFICANTLY since then. Theresa, he is going to be out of commission for some time. Oliver, I need to set the bones so they can heal properly. Prepare yourself."

"Will it hurt?"

"Most definitely." The vampire bat smiled putting down the scanner. "Get ready now on the count of three, one, two...."

*AUGH!!!* Mr. Justice screamed. "I thought you said on three?"

"I lied." The she bat said.

"Couldn't you have given him something for the pain other than a warning?" Theresa asked."

"Oh so sorry we are out of anesthetic frontier medicine and all that." The lady bat smiled again. "Looks like they did not set properly. I am going have to start over."

"AHHHHHHHH!!!!!!"

Oliver's scream echoed through out medical.

"There we go now for the next few."

"Wait, can't you do anything about the pain? It is unbearable!" The red headed human pleaded.

"Very well. Look into my eyes.... the pain you are feeling is just an illusion, a soft feather on your skin, a welcome breeze on a warm day."

"Yes master."

"After I finish patching you up, you will reflect on your actions and never try anything that foolish every again."

"Yes master."

12:45 AM Southeast quadrant....

"Hmm.... the attitude control module is destroyed, hover stabilizer fractured, drive shaft is shafted." The youngest meerkat observed. "Axel is twisted and the frame is bent."

"So what do you think Khai?" Corbin asked the meerkat mechanic.

"You crashed!"

"It wasn't us Khai dear it was Oliver." Professor Stern said as Theresa approached the three of them returning from the central tower.

"How is Oliver?" The mongoose boy asked.

"He is banged up pretty good is going to be out of commission for some time." Ms. Branch said. "What about our utility vehicle?"

"Well Mr. Justice and it have the same prognosis; it isn't going to be an easy fix." The meerkat boy replied.

"I have complete confidence in you Khai- Gluay, Tilikum and Meena as well." Theresa replied looking at the bent twisted, shattered wreck of what used to be their vehicle.

"So now what?" Corbin said observing the storm cloud rain on yet another section of the city.

"I was thinking about that. Oliver tried to fly into the storm to try to take readings... I think he had the right idea but wrong approach."

The red headed wildlife researcher's comment even caught the meerkat's attention.

"Go on." Dawn cheered.

"What if we launch our instruments into the cloud instead?"

1:14 AM Northeast quadrant...

"It is a little rough looking but it should suffice." Ms. Branch said presenting.

"Nice a kite." Dawn added.

"No, more like a kite with some rudimentary instruments attached to it for atmospheric observations. Dawn I am going to need your help launching it."

Corbin and Khai watched the two females position and then launch, then fly the kite right into the storm cloud that was raining on that section of the city.

*beep* *beep*

"The instruments are recording!!" Ms. Branch cheered looking at a pad while Ms. Stern kept the kite aloft.

"Those two look ridiculous." Corbin face-palmed.

"But it looks like you will have some data on that thing to analyze." The youngest meerkat said to the mongoose boy "Unless..."

"What Khai?" Corbin asked as a loud thunderclap and flash was observed.

*AUGGGHHHH!!!*

1:36 AM Infirmary....

"You two are very lucky." Nezera commented.

"How is that? We were electrocuted." Professor Stern said stating the obvious.

"Yes, you have electrical burns, but only on twenty percent of your body. It could have been much much worse." The lady bat responded. "Whatever you were doing or planning on doing forget it you two are going to be staying here."

"For how long Nezera?" Ms. Branch asked.

"Until I am confident that the two of you won't follow in Oliver's footsteps."

Theresa and Dawn looked at the neighboring table to see a bandaged male human with a blank dazed expression on his face.

"Um, what happened to him?" The blond archeologist asked.

"I am out of anesthetic." The grey bat replied her eyes glowing.

9:46 AM Ms. Una's classroom....

"Ok little ones can anyone tell me what are the differences between Chaudoon and Counter Earth?" The snake lady asked her class.

"Well Counter Earth has one sun and moon while Chaudoon has two suns and three moons." One of Masha's cubs answered the female naga.

"Days on Chaundoon are 36 hours long unlike Counter Earth." Another responded.

The class just seemed so uninteresting to the mongoose boy that morning; he already knew those answers.

*Psst* *Psst*

Someone was trying to catch his attention- it was Khai the youngest of the meerkats.

"Huh?"

"How is your mother?"

"Recovering from the electrical burns she and Ms. Branch received over night."

"That's good. During my break from helping the others fix Oliver's truck I was able to recover the data from the kite. You want to take a look at it?"

Corbin nodded his head. "Let's wait until lunch period though."

*HISS* *HISS*

"Knight Sandu." Ms. Una said to the fire lizard that interrupted her class.

*HISS* *HISS*

"Something I can do for you?" The female naga asked.

*HISS* *HISS* The lizard said motioning the teacher to look out the classroom window.

"Children this area of the city has become flooded we must evacuate!"

"Looks like that break is coming sooner than later." Khai observed.

Ms. Una's students and Ms. Rose students followed Sandu and Linias from their classrooms out on the street. It was there that Corbin and Khai learned the magnitude of the situation. Three quarters of World Seven was flooded save for the section Corbin lived in.

"Everyone we are going to the Central Tower." Linias announced.

The teacher's students made their way to safety during the pouring rain regrouping in the Wild's restaurant save for one mongoose boy and one meerkat boy who told their teacher they had to check on something.

Corbin and Khai left the tower and headed across and down the street to the central hanger where the prototypes were parked. Upon their arrival they discovered that there was only one there.

"Wow, what happened to the others?" Khai asked the other meerkats working there.

"On missions the blue prototype was left to safe guard the city." Meena responded.

"It will have to do." The littlest meerkat said opening the dome, climbing inside and motioning Corbin to join him.

*Recognized Corbin Mongoose World Seven*

*Recognized Khai Meerkat World Seven*

"Overwatch engage surveillance probe and launch." Khai said to the automated assistant as Meena, Tilikum and Gluay gathered around.

"Whatcha doing?" Meena asked the two beastial children.

"Seeing how bad is bad." Corbin responded.

"Now that is bad." Tilikum responded as the images were projected on screen. "The city is almost completely under water!"

"Corbin look at this." The little meerkat said pressing the third toggle switch on the weapons console. The copilot monitor and keyboard emerged from the glove box. At which point he started typing. "These were the readings that I was able to pull from the kite."

The mongoose boy read through the observations taken from the storm cloud.

"Temperature... precipitation... humidity... barometric pressure... wind..."

"You see it don't you?" Khai said.

"Looks like there are two opposing wind speeds." Gluay observed.

"Meaning that it is capable of its own locomotion." Meena concluded.

"I think that was obvious from the start." Tilikum commented.

*Interesting observations but what can we do with this data?* The automated assistant asked.

"Convince it that it must leave." Corbin said powering on the blue coupe. "I have an idea."

Meena, Tilikum and Gluay watched as the mongoose boy drove the prototype out of the hanger and onto the street to the area where the cloud was raining down hard.

"Overwatch activate the holo-projector we are going to make our own storm cloud."

*Halo-projector engaged Mr. Mongoose. But I can't project the image very far. The cloud is pretty high in the sky.*

"Now I have an idea. Let's bounce the hologram off of the probe." Khai said typing crazy fast on the keyboard.

"Which can then place it right in front of our target."

The storm cloud continued to rain down on the city with buckets and sheets of water. As it did it was joined by a second storm cloud and then a third and fourth.

"We will take it over from here LEAVE!!" Corbin shouted.

The target continued to pound the city with water.

"Overwatch have the three clouds start to move away from the city perhaps the target will follow." The smallest meerkat said.

_*_Oh like some sort of peer pressure!*

The three projected clouds started to move away from the city in a northeast direction.

The storm cloud observed their departure but stayed.

"DAMN!!! It is not working!!" Corbin pouted. "Khai recall the probe. Overwatch deactivate the halo-projector and engage hover mode."

*Acknowledged.*

Soon the storm cloud was joined by a hovering blue prototype as it continued to rain down.

"Corbin?"

"Overwatch activate the deflectors."

*Corbin?*

"Extend them over that cloud."

*Acknowledged Mr. Mongoose.*

The populace below watched as the rain came to abrupt halt as the cloud and its water were encased in a large translucent field.

"Corbin we are taxing the prototype's systems badly." The little meerkat announced.

*Corbin, Khai, I can't maintain a deflector field of this size indefinitely.* The automated assistant warned.

"You don't Overwatch, just long enough to take our friend on a trip far, far, far away." Corbin suggested.

"Where?" Khai shouted.

"How about a super huge super large forest far and away from here?" The mongoose boy said trading glances with his co-pilot.

"Gotcha. Plotting a course."

"When we arrive at the destination Overwatch I want to pump and dump. Let's not let this thing see what direction we came from and where we are going!"

*Brilliant plan Mr. Mongoose.*

7 PM council chambers...

"I wanted to extend a special commendation to Theresa Branch, Oliver Justice, Dawn Stern, Corbin Mongoose and Khai Meerkat. Your efforts to solve this crisis are most appreciated." King Dragon said as he shook the hands of the two wildlife researchers and the archeologist.

"AWK!!"

"AUGH!!"

"AHH!!"

"A little tender there are we? Sorry." The goofy dragon admitted.

"The council wants to extend a special thank you to Corbin and Khai whose quick actions saved us all." Song said hugging the two boys who smiled broadly as they were congratulated by each member of the council.

"So where did you drop off our guest?" Basil asked the two.

"Well it is a long, long, long way from here." The meerkat said.

"It will take that cloud some time and a lot of effort if it ever wants to visit the city again." The mongoose boy added.

"Quick thinking." Masha replied as those in attendance cheered.

"Now the city can finally return to normal." Gia replied.

"There is one more thing isn't there your majesty?" A female sabertooth tigress said smiling.

"There is." Sorren replied.

"There is so much about this planet that is just new to all of us and we can only rely on our allies for so much." Haem mimed with his tentacles.

"As of this day, we are announcing the formation of a science division to study, research and explore Chaundoon with the hope of increasing our knowledge of this amazing new world we now inhabit." Song stated.

"And so we aren't caught with our pants and undergarments down ever again." The goofy dragon said bouncing his eyebrows.

"Graphic but very effective metaphor your majesty." Basil smirked.

"Theresa Branch and Oliver Justice will head the flora and fauna section researching wildlife and Dawn Stern and Corbin Mongoose the archeology section." Masha added.

"As of this day the medical section lead by Penny Penguin and her team of healers will also become part of this division." Haem signed.

And that evening the Science Division of World Seven was created. Its mission was to understand and catalog much of Chaundoon's enchantment and weirdness. The sentient storm cloud being just one of the many examples.

To Be Continued....

[MEANWHILE]

March 15th YOE 35

World Three (Counter Earth)

12:01 PM The Museum of Technology Explorer's Convention a female archeologist justifies her research to her overseer....

"This image is the picture of the central building we found at the Lost City archeological site." Professor Stern said beginning her presentation to her overseer and few other select individuals in attendance in a small auditorium.

"Human why did you name it the central building?" A coati inquired.

"This was the first structure built at the archeological site. It is the tallest building and the rest of the Lost City is built around that structure." Dawn Stern replied moving on to the next image from her cube.

"Were you able to determine why the this city was built underground human?"

"No sir. My son and I were unable to ascertain the reasoning behind its location." The blond archeologist replied. "We did notice that the temperature at the site is a constant seventy three degrees though."

"It must have been significant." Corbin said Joining the conversation.

"Explain." The silhouetted coati ordered.

"There are four entrances to the archeological site protected by four separate mazes one must traverse before they gain entrance to the city. It takes about 30 minutes on foot to make your way through. Whoever designed the city wanted to make sure it wasn't easily accessible for some reason." The mongoose boy said showing those present the pictures he had recorded.

"Perhaps it was some type of defense mechanism. Perhaps the period in which the city was constructed was one of instability." Professor Stern said concluding her report.

"Fascinating presentation professor. Based on your findings I will allow additional funding to extend your research a little longer." The silhouetted coati replied.

"Does that include permission to reside outside of the empire?" The blond archeologist asked.

"Yes human, for now."

"Thank you overseer you have been most kind." Dawn said bowing respectively to the brown ring-tailed beastial.

"It is unnerving that every thing you do has to be cleared by that coati." Corbin said bristling.

"It is the order of things now." She said petting her adoptive son on the head. "Since the High Evolutionary eliminated the resistance human activity has been sharply curtailed and monitored."

"And it is even tougher to be a human altogether." The little mongoose boy said as he followed his adoptive mother off of the stage. "I think I saw cameras in our room at the hotel too."

"Next presentation please." The silhouetted coati ordered.

A red headed female in a long grey jacket, shirt, jeans and brown boots made her way to the stage. Behind her was a red headed male in a beige jacket, brown shorts with a small yellow scarf around his neck.

"Greetings overseer, my colleague Oliver and I have just finished our study of the grey wolves of the western plains and the black wolves of the south western plains." The red headed woman said beginning.

"What did your study find Ms. Branch?"

"The populations are plentiful, strong and healthy."

"Good so your work has been concluded. Your exemption of the settlement statute has been revoked and you can choose your place of residence here in World Three so long as it is in the basement away from us beastials." The overseer said rather dismissively.

Dawn and Corbin looked at each other.

"Overseer please wait!" Oliver pleaded.

"Yes?"

"While on our way back to World Three, Theresa and I think we might have stumbled upon something interesting- a undiscovered species."

"Of wolf?"

"No sir it was something else." Mr. Justice said.

"You mean like a exotic creature?" The coati suggested folding his paw-fingers together.

"Yes." Oliver said trying not to sweat.

"This isn't a desperate attempt to extend your research is it?" The coati asked.

"No overseer we have proof." Oliver nodded at Theresa.

The lights in the room dimmed as a image from Oliver's cube was projected on a wall behind them.

"This it a remote area far to the west of World Three. Notice the weird curved shaped trees." Oliver said narrating. "Over there..."

"My word it looks like a statute of large stone hand jutting up from the ground." The coati said his eyes wide and his jaw dropped.

"Oliver and I saw several of these statues in the area we were traveling through. As far as we can tell, it looks like it some type of marker or boundary."

"Then there is this." Mr. Justice said switching to the next image.

"What am I looking at?"

"Overseer this was taken from the rear camera on the back of our truck. You see that shimmer next to the tree there?"

"Yes?"

"We had this footage analyzed. That is not naturally occurring. That is a unidentified something blended into the background." Ms Branch said.

"For what purpose, to what end?"

"Theresa and I believe it was watching us. As far as we can tell no known species on the planet can do that."

"Intriguing." The humans' overseer said from his chair.

"Professor Stern if you could approach the stage." Oliver said calling over the archeologist. "Dawn what do you think?"

"Intriguing. I have never seen statues like that. Not in any civilization I have researched."

"Statues Ms. Stern?" The overseer said.

"In the distance there is another." The blond archeologist replied pointing to the image from the cube.

"We could be on the cusp of some big discovery." The red headed female said fishing.

"Which we won't be able to make if we are banished to the slums." The red headed male said trying to tempt their beastial master.

"Alright Ms. Branch and Mr. Justice I will allow you to pursue this." The coati overseer replied.

"Thank you sir." The wildlife researcher and botanist said in unison.

"You go too professor this could be of archeological significance. I will allow you four days."

"But sir it could take much more than that to track down and observe that creature!" Oliver Justice protested.

"You and Ms. Branch are quite the efficient pair I am sure you will make due. Four days." The silhouetted coati said waving his paw dismissively.

"Just four days?" Professor Dawn reiterated as her son approached the stage.

"The overseer just wants to put the both of you back into your respective cages that is all." Corbin grumbled. "Humans in their place, and we back in ours."

"Yes, it is the order of things." The female red head said biting her lip. "Right, then shall we get going?"

"Right now?" The blond archeologist asked.

"Yes our time is very limited and it may take even longer to track down our target." Oliver said.

Corbin and Professor Stern placed their gear in the back of the wildlife researcher's truck and joined them on their long trek to the west.

3:57 PM Some place far far away from World Three...

"Dawn, Corbin we are here." Oliver announced as he brought the white pickup to a halt.

"Nice and desolate." Dawn said.

"Not quite." Theresa said pointing.

The blond archeologist popped out of the bed of the truck and went to the nearest statue. She was followed by the mongoose boy who helped set up some gear.

Immediately they went to work.

"Remarkable." Corbin exclaimed.

"I will be right back." Mr. Justice said to the pair.

"Oliver?" Theresa asked.

"I want to set up some holo-traps for our presentation just in case we need more evidence for our overseer."

"Always thinking ahead." Ms. Branch said to her colleague.

Oliver walked to another nearby statue and placed an observer cube there. He then spread out and place several more around their immediate area.

"My word!" The red headed man shouted as he headed back toward Dawn, Corbin and Theresa.

"Did you find something?"

"I think I got something on camera." Oliver said activating the cube.

"So soon?!" Theresa said ushering Dawn and Corbin to join them.

Theresa, Dawn and Corbin gathered around to look at the holo-image.

"It appears that the creature is roundish shaped with one large eye and a large mouth." Theresa concluded.

*NNNRRRRR*

"And that sound it makes is eerie." Corbin concluded.

"Like it was either hungry, aggressive or both." Theresa replied. "Dawn you have really been quiet, did you find anything?"

"Incredible! These statues don't conform to any civilization I have ever studied on Counter Earth."

"Meaning?" Theresa asked.

"This could be part of a undiscovered civilization!" The blond archeologist exclaimed as Oliver started looking very nervous.

"Guys that image on the cube. It was not recorded it was live." Mr. Justice said as Corbin bristled.

"Oliver, Theresa, professor, We are not alone."

*NNNRRRRR*

*UUURRRRRR*

*GRRRRR*

"Corbin?"

"I think those statues aren't there for show." The little mongoose boy said looking left and right.

"They are markers for those things' territory." Theresa concluded.

"Or warnings for others to stay away from their territory." Oliver said looking around as more were heard.

"I just love making discoveries!" Dawn exclaimed.

*NRRRRRRRRRRR*

*ERROOO!!!*

"I got a few more for you professor." Oliver said dropping his cube to the ground. "There are more of them."

"Can we make it to the truck?" Theresa asked panicked.

"Negative we are completely surrounded." Corbin said bristling again.

"I left our protective gear in the truck- I just have a flare stick." Ms. Branch announced.

"Friends I think we are finished here." Mr. Justice concluded as Dawn gasped.
