#30 of Pokemon - To Catch Them All

Leo challenges Pryce and learns of Team Rockets takeover in Goldenrod City and fights them

I checked my current Johto Pokemon in order to figure out which ones would be best suited for battling Ice Types. I knew that Pryce used Dewgong and his ace a Piloswine. As such the Pokemon I had that had a type advantage against Ice Pokemon were my Typhlosion, Sudowoodo, Forretress, Shuckle, Heracross, Corsola and Pupitar. However, some of those Pokemon also had disadvantages. Dewgong was part water and would be super effective against my Fire Types and Rock Types and Piloswine was part Ground Type and was also super effective against Fire and Rock Types as such I needed to plan my team to counter Ice Types.

In the end I chose to use my Typhlosion and my Feraligatr because combined together they should stand a great chance at overwhelming Pryce and his Ice Pokemon. At that I stepped inside the gym and immediately realised that it was freezing. Nevertheless I continued and arrived where Pryce was already waiting. "I was getting bored wondering when a challenger would arrive. Thankfully you have I hope you'll be a good challenge." At that the referee announced the rules "this will be a two on two match and the battle will be over when one sides Pokemon are all unable to continue battling. Trainers please send out your Pokemon." At that Pryce sent out Dewgong in the small lake which meant I couldn't use Typhlosion as I thought I could.

"I need your help Feraligatr!" Feraligatr roared as he dived into the water. "Battle begin!" Pryce began without missing a beat, "Dewgong Ice Beam!" Dewgong sent an Ice Beam at Feraligatr but he dodged effectively. "Feraligatr use Crunch!" Feraligatr swam with speed chasing after Dewgong who turned around at his trainers command. "Use Ice Beam again!" Dewgong fired Ice Beam but Feraligatr took the attack and kept swimming jaws ready to grip Dewgong. Dewgong couldn't dodge and was hit by a powerful Crunch but he didn't stop there. "Now Feraligatr throw Dewgong and then go for Low Kick!" Feraligatr threw Dewgong into the air before lunging out of the water kicking Dewgong back down into the water with a super effective move.

"Dewgong is unable to battle, Feraligatr is the winner!" Feraligatr roared but didn't cheer yet, he needed to defeat Piloswine next. "Come out Piloswine!" Piloswine couldn't traverse the water so we had a slight advantage. "Piloswine Ice Beam!" Feraligatr jumped to avoid the Ice Beam but the attack was intended to freeze the lake to prevent Feraligatr from dodging any more attacks. "Feraligatr Hydro Pump!" Feraligatr unleashed a great deluge but was blocked by an equally powerful Ice Beam. However, eventually the two moves began pushing against the other, Feraligatr managed to overpower Dewgong and defeat Piloswine with a super effective move. "Piloswine is unable to battle, Feraligatr is the winner!" Feraligatr roared as he returned back to Leo grabbing him in a powerful hug to show his happiness at winning all on his own.

"I must say, your Feraligatr is exceptionally strong, perhaps I should have gone all out right from the start. Oh well, here is the Glacier Badge you've earned it." I thanked him placing the badge in my badge case realising I only had one more badge I needed to get. I returned to the Pokemon centre and had my Feraligatr fully healed and hoped Typhlosion wasn't disappointed for not getting a turn at battling. "Come out Typhlosion!" Typhlosion appeared his flames burning bright. "Sorry you didn't get a turn battling, Feraligatr won the badge for me." Typhlosion nodded his head happy for his teammate. "Your not disappointed I didn't use you?" Typhlosion shook his head he wasn't bothered at all. "That's good I thought you'd be disappointed maybe even angry at me. I wanted to reassure you that you and everyone else are valued members of the team." Typhlosion teared up at that grabbing me tightly and hugging me. I began sweating at the intense flames that Typhlosion was giving off. Though they didn't burn me. Eventually Typhlosion released me and I decided to do some research on the next gym and what it was about.

Before I could however, I received a phone call from Professor Elm and I answered the phone curious as to what he wanted. "Hello Leo I'm sorry to call but I wanted to check something with you. Have you heard that Team Rocket are making announcements on the radio. Well, it seems that they have taken over the Radio Tower in Goldenrod City. I don't mean to trouble you, but I figured it might be of importance to you. Please stay safe and have a great journey too." At that he hung up and I decided it would be wise to investigate in Goldenrod City and understand what exactly Team Rocket desire at the radio station. Did it have some involvement with the research they were doing with forced evolution through radio waves. If that was the case, they needed to be stopped immediately.

I brought out Noctowl and he flew me straight to Goldenrod City and when we landed it was clear that Team Rocket had the city under their control. Citizens were in their homes almost hiding away from the criminal organisation. I wondered where Whitney was and presumed she was handling the situation as the gym leader but I headed off to the Radio Tower to investigate the situation. Entering the receptionist informed me that Team Rocket had currently taken the building under their control and that she had no idea what they were planning here. As such, I headed on over to where the stairs where but a grunt blocked the way.

"Intruders are not welcome, scram or be prepared to be knocked out!" The grunt warned me and sent out Raticate but I sent out my Heracross having him use Brick Break defeating the Raticate and the second Raticate that was sent out as well. The grunt returned his Pokemon sneering but didn't approach when Heracross glared down the grunt with threatening eyes. "Your stronger than I had expected. No matter, I must alert the commanders before you interfere!" At that he dashed up the stairs almost tripping up in the process. I followed at my own pace behind him seeing more grunts and some employees that seemed to be held hostage. One grunt noticed me and sent out five Rattata in an effort to stop me but I sent out my Yanmega having him use Uproar against every Rattata overwhelming them.

Continuing a second Grunt challenged me sending out a Zubat and I sent out Misdreavus having him use Psybeam defeating Zubat and the second one that was sent out as well. The next Grunt sent out a Grimer and I sent out Slowpoke having him use Confusion defeating Grimer. Next was a Muk who Slowpoke defeated as well with another Confusion. Next a Grunt sent out an Arbok and I sent out my Pupitar having him use Stomping Tantrum defeating Arbok with the super effective move. Heading up the next floor another grunt challenged me with a Koffing but I had Murkrow come out and use Drill Peck. The next Pokemon sent out was a Zubat who was also defeated by Murkrow using Drill Peck. Next was a Rattata and Murkrow used Foul Play defeating Rattata as well. The final Pokemon sent out was a Grimer and I substituted for my Quagsire having him use Mud Bomb defeating Grimer.

A Scientist working with Team Rocket was next to challenge me and sent out a Magnemite, I had Typhlosion come out and use Flamethrower defeating Magnemite. Two more Magnemite were sent out and were each defeated much the same way with another few Flamethrowers. The next Grunt was actually wearing a Rocket uniform and sent out a Weezing and I sent out my Wobbuffet. Weezing attacked using Sludge Bomb but the attack was sent back with double the damage by Wobbuffet's Mirror Coat winning the battle. A employee informed me that one of the admins had locked themselves in an office but the only person able to access the room was on the fifth floor, the director could open it.

Following that advice I headed up the next floor and was challenged by another Grunt who sent out a Zubat and I sent out my Ariados having him trap Zubat with String Shot before finishing it off with Psychic. Next was a Golbat and Ariados proved to be powerful enough to use Psychic defeating Golbat as well. The final Pokemon sent out was a Grimer and I substituted for my Shuckle. Shuckle easily blocked Grimer's Sludge attack and retaliated with a powerful Rock Slide. Continuing onward a Grunt challenged me with two Ekans, each were dispatched by my Mantine who used Wing Attack. The next Pokemon sent out was a Oddish which I substituted for my Noctowl who used Air Slash and then repeated it against a Gloom too.

Next a Scientist working with Team Rocket challenged me with a Porygon and I sent out my Heracross having him use Brick Break defeating Porygon. I headed up to the top floor where I saw who I presumed was the director. However, when I approached the man stopped his announcements and removed his uniform. "I can't stand pretending to be that director. Not especially when your here, that's right I remember you. How could I forget the trainer who utterly defeated me. Well no matter I will defeat you." It was actually Petrel pretending to be the director. No matter, he challenged me and sent out his Koffing and I sent out Girafarig having him use Psychic defeating Koffing. Next up was a Weezing and I had Girafarig use Psychic once again defeating Weezing. Next up was a Koffing and Girafarig continued using Psychic. The next three were all Koffing which was boring my Girafarig who used Psychic continuously defeating the Koffing.

"Once again you've defeated me, how absolutely infuriating. No matter, I will give you some assistance though. The real director isn't here, he's been moved to our underground warehouse, at the end of Goldenrod Tunnel. Since telling you this proves nothing to you, I will even give you the basement key." At that he forcefully handed me the key before he ran out of the room with his tail between his legs. I followed suit, exiting the building and headed to the underground tunnel to find and rescue the director. I presumed more Team Rocket grunts would be around to try and stop me, not that I'd allow them too. When I got to the end of the tunnel, I reached the basement door and grabbed the basement key unlocking the large doors.

Entering, I descended down the stairs and began looking around, a Grunt then challenged me with a Rattata and I sent out my Heracross having him use Brick Break defeating Rattata. The next Grunt sent out a Muk and I sent out my Misdreavus having him use Psybeam. Next up was a Koffing but he was also defeated by Psybeam as well. The final Pokemon sent out was a Rattata which attempted to Tackle Misdreavus but Misdreavus was immune and blasted Psybeam right at Rattata winning the battle. I explored further and was attacked by a Burglar who sent out two Koffing who were stopped by Quagsire's Muddy Water. The next Pokemon sent out was a Magmar which Quagsire stopped with another Muddy Water.

The next Burglar challenged me with a Growlithe and I sent out my Poliwhirl having him use Bubble Beam defeating Growlithe. The second Pokemon sent out was a Koffing and I had Poliwhirl use a second Bubble Beam defeating Koffing. Continuing on I was challenged by a Grunt who challenged me with a Koffing and I sent out my Azumarill having him power through using Aqua Tail. Next was a Muk and I sent out my Miltank having her use Stomp defeating Muk. After solving some door switches I was challenged by another Grunt who sent out a Gloom and I had Togetic come out and use Extrasensory and repeat against the second Gloom as well.

I headed even deeper through the basement and was challenged by another Grunt who sent out a Raticate and I had Meganium come out and use Petal Dance. Next was a Golbat and I substituted for my Pikachu having him use Thunderbolt defeating Golbat. Next a Grunt challenged me with a Grimer and I sent out my Feraligatr having him use Hydro Pump defeating Grimer. Next was a Weezing and I had my Feraligatr use another Hydro Pump defeating Weezing too. The next Grunt sent out a Koffing and I sent out my Ledian having him use Aerial Ace. Next was a second Koffing who was also defeated with Aerial Ace.

After defeating all the Grunts I eventually reached the real director who was deep inside the warehouse. "Oh thank goodness someone has come to rescue me. Do you know of what has happened to the Radio Tower in my absence young man?" I replied, "Team Rocket have taken over?" the director balked in shock before speaking, "Team Rocket have taken over have they? Please take this card key, that will open the shutters on the third floor. I really hope you can stop Team Rocket young man." At that I left as the director assured me he would return to the Radio Tower once it was safe to do so.

I exited the basement and returned back to the Radio Tower and quickly reached the third floor where I would be able to use the card key to unlock the shutters and hopefully stop whatever nefarious scheme Team Rocket was plotting with the Radio Tower. Entering I was immediately challenged by a Grunt who sent out a Raticate and I sent out my Smeargle, having him use Flamethrower defeating Raticate and then defeating Koffing with Psychic which was copied from Girafarig. At that I climbed the stairs and was surprised to see a familiar face, though one I hadn't seen since I was back in Azalea Town where Team Rocket was removing the tails of Slowpoke to get a profit. This must of been Proton the admin who was in charge of that operation.

"I remember you back in Azalea Town, the one who defeated me in the Slowpoke Well. You really are infuriating, continually getting in the way of my, no Team Rockets ambitions. Well then prepare yourself, this time, I'm not playing nice any longer. Your going to feel the full power of Team Rocket, hopefully that will teach you to stay out of the affairs of Team Rocket kid!" At that he sent out a Golbat and I sent out my Ampharos having him use Thunder Punch defeating Golbat. His second Pokemon was a Weezing which Girafarig handled using Psychic.

I headed up another flight of stairs and a familiar lady was blocking the lift, she seemed to spot me and her eyes lit up with remembrance before it changed to irritation. "I had a strong feeling that we would meet again, trainer who stopped us back in Mahogany Town. No matter, this time I see your here without the champion aiding you. As such, this should be much easier than before." Ariana's first Pokemon was a Arbok and I sent out my Smeargle, which seemed to amuse Ariana as she laughed haughtily. She wasn't laughing when Smeargle used Psychic defeating Arbok. Next was a Murkrow and I substituted for my Forretress having him use Rollout defeating Murkrow. Her final Pokemon was a Vileplume and I substituted once more for my own Murkrow who defeated her Vileplume with Drill Peck.

"Hmm, it appears that in such a short time, you've managed to grow even stronger and your not even in the company of the champion. Why don't you bother using that strength for selfish reasons. Stealing Pokemon, destroying and owning whatever you want. I guess your denial to do so will mean you and I no, you and Team Rocket as a whole will never understand why we do what we do. No matter, I cannot deny that your strength is worthy of respect. I won't stop you if you plan on continuing ahead." At that she stepped aside as I entered the lift where I was taken to the Observation Deck of the Radio Tower.

"Perhaps I should introduce myself, since we haven't met, trainer whose interfered in the mission of Team Rocket, not only here in Johto but in Kanto. My name is Archer, I must admit for you too have defeated all of the admins and grunts you must be an impressive trainer. What we plan on using this tower for is none of your concern, but perhaps I can inform you of a little something, using radio waves we plan on controlling every Pokemon there is. As such we need to control this and every Radio Tower we can. Perhaps I've said too much, but compared to the previous admins you've faced. I'm on a completely different level to them, prepare yourself for a real battle."

At that Archer sent out his first Pokemon which was a Houndour a Fire and Dark Type that I hadn't come across yet on my journey. I sent out my Azumarill to counter and had him use Aqua Tail defeating Houndour. Next was its evolved form a Houndoom which looked so regal and beautiful but it was under the control of my enemy and as such Azumarill defeated Houndoom with Aqua Tail as well. Finally a Koffing was his last Pokemon and I substituted for my Smeargle having him use Psychic defeating Koffing.

"Well, I must admit I hadn't expected this outcome, but with time, we will control and own every Pokemon of every region. No matter who tries to defy our will Giovanni and Team Rocket will control the world and the Pokemon. Out of respect for your apparent skill in defeating me though, I will have Team Rocket leave Goldenrod for the time being, if only so we can figure out a better plan that will succeed against even the power you hold. This is by no means a surrender, this is a temporary victory for you and a temporary setback for Team Rocket. Perhaps one day, you will face off against Giovanni himself and learn the true feeling and meaning of despair. Goodbye for now young trainer, may we meet again someday on the field of battle." At that Archer walked off down the elevator and left Goldenrod hopefully permanently for the time being.

The director must have been informed that Team Rocket had abandoned the Radio Tower and joined me on the Observation Deck. "Thank you young trainer, you've defeated Team Rocket and saved people and Pokemon nationwide. I have a gift I'd like to give you, this here is a Rainbow Ring." He handed me a colourful shining wing that looked absolutely wonderful and I placed it in my bad for safe keeping. "There used to be a tower here long ago, however when the Radio Tower replaced that tower, the Rainbow Wing was found at the very top. Now if you feel like it, I heard that if one were to climb to the top of Bell Tower in Ecruteak City and have a Rainbow Wing one could find a truly special Pokemon. I'm sorry I must be leaving now, I must ensure everyone is fine after Team Rockets takeover. Thank you once again for your assistance." At that he left and I followed suit being thanked by the employees of the Radio Tower for defeating Team Rocket.

At that I returned back to Mahogany Town and decided to head east through to Route 44 where I was challenged by a Psychic who sent out a Natu and I sent out my Ampharos having him use Thunder Punch. The second Pokemon sent out was a Kadabra and I substituted for my Murkrow having him use Faint Attack defeating Kadabra. Heading north I was challenged by a Fisherman who sent out a Goldeen and I sent out my Jumpluff having him use Seed Bomb defeating Goldeen. Then using another Seed Bomb against the second Goldeen. The final Pokemon sent out was a Seaking which another Seed Bomb winning the battle. Next was a Pokemaniac who sent out a Rhyhorn and I sent out my Meganium having him use Petal Dance.

Next I was challenged by an Ace Trainer who sent out a Charmeleon and I sent out my Shuckle having him use Rock Slide defeating Charmeleon. Next was a Magnemite and I sent out my Typhlosion having him use Flamethrower defeating Magnemite. Next was a Ace Trainer who sent out a Mareep and I sent out my Quagsire having him use Earthquake against Mareep winning the battle. The next Pokemon sent out was a Bellossom so I substituted for my Yanmega having him use Wing Attack defeating Bellossom. Next a Fisherman challenged me and sent out a Remoraid and I sent out my Pikachu having him use Thunderbolt defeating Remoraid. The next Pokemon sent out was a second Remoraid which went down to a second Thunderbolt.

While exploring the route, I saw a Remoraid swimming in a nearby lake and decided to have a go at catching it. "Come out Lanturn, I need your help!" Lanturn dived into the lake and saw the Remoraid swimming around. "Lanturn use Thunderbolt!" Lanturn used Thunderbolt and Remoraid attempted to counter by using Psybeam and put up a good fight. Eventually Lanturn overpowered Remoraid and Thunderbolt scored a direct hit weakening Remoraid enough for me to throw a Pokeball. I watched as the Pokeball shook once, twice, three times before the capture was confirmed. "Remoriad has been registered to your Pokedex. Remoraid the Jet Pokemon a Water Type. It clings to Mantine to feed on the big Pokemon's scraps. This is an adaption to avoid foes." A smart strategy to feed by a bigger Pokemon that can offer protection a smart adapation for sure.

Remoraid was a great Pokemon to add to the team and got along swimmingly with all my water Pokemon and since we were currently surrounded by lakes, it offered an excellent place to train Remoraid. He knew a wide variety of moves other than water. I mean he knew Psybeam which was a Psychic Type move and that was unexpected. Ice Beam and Bullet Seed were also unexpected as well. After some excellent training Remoraid began glowing signalling his evolution already. "Octillery has been registered to your Pokedex. Octillery the Jet Pokemon a Water Type. It obscures its foes vision by spitting a cloud of black ink. It makes its nest among boulders." Octillery was a unique Pokemon and I couldn't quite ascertain as to how a Remoraid evolved into an Octillery but that was something for the researchers and professors to debate amongst themselves.

Next a Bird Keeper challenged me with a Bird Keeper and I sent out the new Octillery having him unleash a super effective Ice Beam which defeated Hoothoot. Next was a Pidgeotto who was also defeated with Ice Beam as well. After that I'd managed to reach Ice Path and knew it would be filled with lots of Ice Pokemon and hopefully some I hadn't yet caught.
