#29 of Pokemon - To Catch Them All

Leo arrives at the Lake Of Rage and encounters a angry Red Gyarados then assists Champion Lance at stopping Team Rocket

On the way back to Mahogany Town I decided to get some training done with the newest team members and they were quickly showing me just how powerful they actually were. First was Girafarig and he was a powerful Psychic Type and I had been needing another Psychic Type while travelling through Johto. His unique type combination of Normal and Psychic gave me great advantages and choices in battles. Outside of battles, Girafarig liked to walk along with me as we journeyed across the land. He was a very kind hearted Pokemon that got along well with every one of my Pokemon. Then there was my Poliwag who quickly evolved into a Poliwhirl. Originally he had been a very energetic Pokemon but through evolving he had calmed down and gained some patience in life. It was a welcome thing to see but he was a lovely Pokemon and I'm sure he'd get along well with Poliwrath as well.

Smeargle was surprisingly skilled at battles because of his unique move being Sketch. In a battle, Smeargle could copy any Pokemon's moves and use them permanently. It was very handy to have so many Pokemon which meant Smeargle could observe any of my Pokemon and use any moves that he desired. Azurill may have been a young Pokemon but through some extensive training, he had already evolved into a Marill. "Marill has been registered to your Pokedex. Marill the Aqua Mouse Pokemon a Water and Fairy Type. The tip of its tail is filled with oil that is lighter than water, so it acts as a float." Marill didn't stay as a Marill as long as I had thought. I knew that Azurill only evolved when it and its trainer had formed a strong bond of friendship between the two. However, all the training we did had allowed Marill to then evolve once again into an Azumarill.

"Azumarill has been registered to your Pokedex. Azumarill the Aqua Rabbit Pokemon a Water and Fairy Type. Its long ears are superb sensors. It can distinguish the movements of living things on riverbeds." Azumarill had gained a battle confidence that I never expected he'd have. Azumarill was confident and almost aggressive in battles but followed my commands faithfully. Azumarill had been working with Feraligatr and Quagsire so it was no wonder he had been getting stronger so quickly. Wobbuffet had taken some time to work with, I had to wait and see what the opponent would do before countering with either Mirror Coat or Counter and once that was done I had to rely on Wobbuffet's stamina. However, in time I had grown used to this new form of battling and found it refreshing.

Misdreavus was definitely a opportunistic Pokemon and tried occasionally to give me a fright but most of time time battled well with me. I knew that I needed a Dusk Stone in order to evolve Misdreavus but I decided on waiting to evolve him. It had too be at the right time and when Misdreavus wanted to evolve. If Misdreavus couldn't pull a prank on me he'd try on my other Pokemon but they were much too smart and wouldn't fool for any pranks or tricks Misdreavus attempted. Besides if Misdreavus persisted then he would likely be attacked in their annoyance.

Misdreavus did have an ally in Murkrow and they acted in much the same manor. Murkrow however, was a little more lenient with me and left me to my own devices. When battling however, Murkrow was talented and tricky using tactics some might consider unfair to hide from and attack his opponent. Still in private Murkrow did like to land on my head or shoulder to receive some head pats which he adored. He never allowed anyone to find this out, so its our secret. Similarly I could evolve Murkrow into a Honchkrow by using a Dusk Stone but I decided on waiting.

Finally there was Larvitar and he was by far the most determined and dedicated Pokemon I had ever met. From the moment we trained together, he pushed himself against his opponents learning from his defeats and growing stronger from them. Larvitar was also quite kind hearted but refused to show that, preferring to keep up the appearance that he was a powerful and aggressive Pokemon when in all actuality he was a softy at heart. However, through training for a few hours at his request, Larvitar began glowing signalling he was already beginning to evolve. "Pupitar has been registered to your Pokedex. Pupitar the Hard Shell Pokemon a Rock and Ground Type. Its body is as hard as bedrock. By venting pressurised gas, it can launch itself like a rocket." Pupitar wasn't happy about his current form and I guess it was because his mobility was limited. He was probably, knowing him, feeling weak when in all actuality he was extremely powerful he just didn't know it.

I promised Pupitar that we would continue training together and he would evolve once more into the mighty Tyranitar and that would be his ultimate reward if he continued being patient. Pupitar seemed to agree reluctantly and continued training whenever he got the opportunity. Once I got back to Mahogany Town I headed north and returned to Route 43 to continue battling trainers to get stronger. I was challenged by a Pokemaniac who sent out a Nidorina and I sent out my Girafarig had him use Psybeam defeating Nidorina. The second Pokemon sent out was a Nirodino which was defeated with another Psybeam.

I headed upwards and was challenged by a second Pokemaniac who sent out a Slowbro and I sent out my Pikachu having him use Thunderbolt defeating Slowbro. Continuing on a Pokemaniac challenged me with a Nidoking and I substituted for my Slowpoke having him use Water Pulse defeating Nidoking. Eventually I reached the Lake Of Rage and was stunned when I spotted people running away from the lake in fear of a rampaging red Gyarados. It used Hyper Beam and Hydro Pumps at random firing at whatever moved. It was powerful but seriously angry, something must have happened. The possibility could also be that Gyarados was rampaging because it was also in pain.

"I need your help come out Ampharos and Blissey!" Ampharos and Blissey popped out their Pokeballs and immediately we ducked dodging a Hyper Beam which smashed through some trees behind us. "Blissey, use Heal Pulse try and calm down Gyarados!" Blissey agreed sending a healing wave towards Gyarados but Gyarados seemed blinded by its anger and fired another Hyper Beam. Blissey protected herself using Protect. "Ampharos use Thunder!" Ampharos seeing that the Gyarados needed to be defeated through force unleashed a massive Thunder but Gyarados countered firing Hyper Beam into the sky causing a massive explosion.

"Quick while Gyarados can't move use Thunder once more!" Since Gyarados had used Hyper Beam it would need to rest up for quite some time. That allowed Ampharos to unleash Thunder which defeated Gyarados sending him plummeting into the water. "Ampharos could you wait here please. I need your help come out Feraligatr!" Feraligatr appeared roaring at the now unconscious Gyarados.

"Ferligatr can you get me and Blissey over to that red Gyarados please?" Feraligatr nodded before transporting me and Blissey over to the unconscious Gyarados. "Now Blissey use Heal Pulse!" Blissey's Heal Pulse seemed to work wonders as Gyarados slowly opened his eyes and stared down at me and my Pokemon confused. "Are you feeling alright now? Sorry we were so rough but we needed you to calm down before we could heal you." I said as Blissey nodded her head in agreement glad that Gyarados was feeling much better.

Gyarados roared as he rose up towering over me before staring me down with a emotion I couldn't quite place. Feraligatr seemed to understand and lifted me up to the Gyarados gesturing for me to throw a Pokeball at the now calm and apparently thankful Gyarados. "You want me to catch you?" Gyarados roared nodding his head at that I decided having two Gyarados wasn't much of an issue for me. "Pokeball go!" At that I watched as the Pokeball shook once, twice, three times before the catch was confirmed.

The Rotom phone displayed that I now had the blue Gyarados that I got as a Magikarp in Kanto and now a red Gyarados that I caught in Johto. I released Gyarados and decided to show him the image and he seemed very interested in meeting my other Gyarados. I was sure they would become good friends. However, after the chaos was all brought to a halt I had wondered what had caused this Gyarados to go on such a rampage.

Before I returned to dry land, I returned Ampharos, Blissey and Feraligatr and decided some bonding time with Gyarados would be good and he seemed to be in agreement. Gyarados ferried me across the lake and headed south through some former vegetation where I found a area of Route 43 I hadn't yet explored. I descended of Gyarados and returned him to his Pokeball for the moment and continued heading south. A Fisherman challenged me with two Magikarp that were defeated by my Smeargle and a Gyarados who Ampharos defeated using Thunder.

When I followed the route back and returned back to the Lake Of Rage I was surprised when a man in a cape that looked awfully familiar too me from somewhere. "You there!" He turned to me with a Dragonite by his side staring me down with power exuding from him. "Me?" I asked curiously and the man nodded. "Hang on your Lance aren't you the champion?" Lance agreed smiling before he returned the conversation back to the rampaging red Gyarados.

"I must thank you for catching and calming that red Gyarados. You see some time ago, there was a similar instance in which another red Gyarados was here at this very lake. It acted in much the same manor but I caught it and its now one of my most trusted Pokemon. Apologies, back to the topic at hand. In the previous instance I spoke of Team Rocket forced a Magikarp to evolve and that's what caused Gyarados to run rampant. I wonder whether Team Rocket have returned once again in an attempt to try their luck." Lance hummed thoughtfully.

"I can tell this must be Team Rocket as previously they used radio waves that I tracked once before that forced the Magikarp to evolve. Once again they are coming from Mahogany Town which concerns me. I had foolishly believed that Team Rocket no longer operated in Mahogany Town. However it appears as though they have returned. I apologise once again, may I ask of your name?" I introduced myself to the champion, "my name is Leo!" Lance nodded his head at the introduction. "Excellent, now, may I ask you if you would help me investigate Team Rocket in Mahogany Town. We need to destroy the source of the radio waves once and for all."

I completely agreed and Lance headed back to Mahogany Town and I returned behind him. I returned back and began exploring searching for the source of the radio waves and eventually found Lance who had been dealing with two apparent members of Team Rocket. "It seems as though they have changed the layout since I last investigated but still it seems they haven't learned from their mistakes. I'll go on ahead, we'll meet up inside later." Lance directed me and I headed down after him.

At that I descended down and was immediately accosted by a Team Rocket grunt. He sent out a Drowzee and I sent out my Typhlosion having him burn Drowzee with Flamethrower before Zubat was stopped the same way. Continuing through the secret hideout, another grunt challenged me with a Zubat but Ampharos used Thunder Punch stopping Zubat. Next was Grimer and I had Azumarill come out and use Aqua Tail. Finally a Rattata was next but Azumarill dealt with them using another Aqua Tail.

Exploring further I spotted statues which emitted a red laser which seemed to be the precursor to an alarm being tripped. As such there had to be a control panel or computer that could activate and deactivate these traps and so I searched through and came across a scientist who seemed to be guarding a computer. He challenged me and sent out a Magnemite and I sent out my Heracross having him use Brick Break. A second Magnemite was defeated much the same way. Finally another Magnemite was defeated the same way.

The scientist forcefully pushed himself directly in my path blocking the route to the computer which seemed to be the source of the traps. "Heracross convince that man to step aside!" Heracross smirked approaching the man who shivered nervously as he saw the Heracross approach armed with a powerful horn. Heracross forcefully moved the scientist out of the way and allowed me to deactivate the surveillance system with a flick of a switch.

Continuing through the hideout a grunt sent out four Rattata trying to overwhelm me but Heracross stopped them all without even trying. Heading down a level more grunts awaited me and the first one sent out a Golbat but Girafarig used Psybeam defeating Golbat. The next grunt sent out a Venonat and I sent out my Smeargle having him use Flamethrower he copied from Typhlosion using Sketch. A second Venonat was defeated once again. Exploring through I came across a sealed door which could only be activated when someone knows the password. Heading down a level I hoped to find someone who could be of assistance and soon enough came across Lance.

"Good to see you've made it here, have you see the locked doors up the next floor?" I nodded my head, "yes its needs to voice of someone specific in order to be opened right?" Lance nodded his head, "I have discovered the person we need is Petrel and that he is hiding in their leaders office. However, we also need a password to get into that room as well. Lets split up and search for the password."

At that Lance headed off to search and I did as well. I came across a Scientist who sent out a Ditto and I sent out my Poliwhirl having him use Water Pulse before he could transform defeating Ditto. Next a Grunt challenged me with a Raticate and I sent out my Furret having him use Headbutt to defeat Raticate. "Fine, you want the password, its Raticatetail." At that I wondered off to find the leaders room. Next a Scientist challenged me with two Koffing and I sent out my Sudowoodo having him use Rock Slide against Koffing which defeated him as well as the second Koffing too.

Next a Grunt challenged me with an Ekans and I sent out my Ambipom who overwhelmed Ekans with Double Hit. The next Pokemon sent out was a Gloom but Ambipom handled that with another Double Hit as well. "Fine, the password is Slowpoketail, happy now." The Grunt said annoyed as Ambipom interrogated him. I headed up another flight of stairs and was challenged by another Grunt who sent out a Rattata and I sent out Ledian having him use Mach Punch defeating Rattata. Then using Aerial Ace against Zubat and another Mach Punch against Rattata too.

After some exploring I found the locked doors and entered them after typing in the two passwords. My visit seemed to be unexpected by the man who was sitting down observing me with calculated interest. "I heard about you from Team Rockets grunts not only here from Johto but you seem awfully familiar to a grunt that was trying to get recruits in Kanto. If I'm right your name is Leo and your collecting Pokemon for the Pokedex, if our informants are correct." I didn't know whether I wanted them knowing that information, but also wondered who their informant was.

"Well, you've done well to get this far, even if you had some assistance from the champion himself. You may not be aware, but we attempted this exact scheme in the past, however, he were thwarted by champion Lance and some kids, one of them had a Pikachu if I remember correctly. However, we've taken more precautions to ensure that nobody stops Team Rocket again, all for the glory of Giovanni. Now then I am Petrel and you are not getting into the radio transmitter room under any circumstances. You know I'm feeling quite generous to even an intruder such as yourself. As such, here is the password to the radio transmitter room, "hail Giovanni!" It's a shame that knowing the password is nothing to you since the door opens only to my voice. Now enough chatter, I'll deal with you personally and then handle the champion as well."

At that Petrel challenged me and sent out a Zubat which wasn't very threatening to me, "come out Ampharos!" Ampharos came out glaring at Petrel and his Zubat and understandably Zubat seemed very nervous about facing off against such a powerful looking Electric Type. "Ampharos Thunder Punch!" Petrel was understandably shocked when Ampharos defeated his Zubat in just one move. "Return Zubat! Your not as weak as I expected. Still give me your Pokemon and perhaps we'll call it quits." I didn't get to respond when Ampharos unleashed a Thunder as his way of threatening Petrel to back off.

Petrel smirked, "so be it, come out Raticate!" Raticate appeared snarling his teeth, Ampharos was unfazed but I swapped him out to give him a break for now. "Come out Misdreavus!" Misdreavus appeared and was serious not smirking or giggling not he was concentrating on dealing with Team Rocket. "Misdreavus use Psybeam!" Misdreavus fired Psybeam which scored a massive hit defeating Raticate as well. Petrel was beginning to show frustration and anger and returned his Raticate.

"Koffing come out!" Koffing appeared but Misdreavus used another Psybeam defeating Koffing and ending Petrel for the moment. He returned his Koffing and sighed. "Did you really think that a member of Team Rocket would present themselves in a fair and honourable manor. You must be deluded! Just because you defeated me means nothing. I can open the door for myself before you even get there. Goodbye for now trainer!" At that Petrel darted from the room at lightning speed.

I followed him returning Misdreavus and returned back to the door. "Murkrow come out!" Murkrow appeared observing Petrel as he opened the door. "Murkrow can you copy him and open the door?" Murkrow laughed cheekily and imitated Petrel opening the door allowing me entry to the radio transmitter room. However, I couldn't go anywhere just yet when a serious looking member of Team Rocket appeared.

"Don't think about going anywhere yet now young man. We can't have a kid like you tarnishing the name of Team Rocket now can we? Now I have heard your strength, seen it as well. However, if the two of us team up against you I doubt you will give us much trouble." Just as the two were preparing to release their Pokemon Lance appeared with his Dragonite glaring at the two.

"A two on one battle, then again Team Rocket has never been one to be fair. Still I will help you!" At that Lance chose Dragonite and I chose to use the red Gyarados I caught earlier. The regular Grunt sent out a Drowzee and the admin who introduced herself as Ariana sent out a Arbok. I had Gyarados use Bite easily defeating Drowzee while Ariana had her Arbok try and Wrap Lance's Dragonite. Dragonite easily blocked the attack and used Hyper Beam against Arbok.

The Grunt then sent out Grimer and I had Gyarados use Hydro Pump stopping Grimer before it could interfere against Lance. Grimer was defeated and the Executive returned her Arbok and sent out Gloom but Gyarados and Dragonite both unleashed a double Hyper Beam which easily stopped Gloom. At that Ariana returned her Gloom and didn't seem disappointed at her defeat by a mere child and a powerful champion.

"Well, I shouldn't be surprised I was defeated by a champion after all. No matter, the experiment went better than previous and we got even more data from it. A shame that you managed to interfere once again Lance. Don't you have champion duties to attend to?" Lance didn't bother rebuking her knowing that anything he said would be ignored by her. "This hideout is no longer of any use to Team Rocket so do with it as you wish. Goodbye for now, may we meet again, young trainer and champion Lance."

At that a smoke bomb was deployed allowing the Team Rocket grunts and executives to escape the building and evade being captured by Lance. Speaking of the smokescreen, Dragonite immediately removed the smoke field allowing us to see once again. "Now onto the matter at hand, lets turn of the radio signal to prevent any more Magikarp from experiencing forced evolution." At that we arrived at the machine, seeing electric currents which seemed to power the device and they came from Electrode as well.

"To power done the machine and stop the radio waves it seems we will need to defeat the Electrode. Though it is off no fault to them." At that I began defeating the three Electrode and once that was done I brought Blissey out and her use Heal Pulse and help the Electrode recover from their injuries. "Thank you very much for your assistance. Now that Team Rockets operations have finally been stopped. I believe we can now leave, though I will contact Officer Jenny and have her launch a full investigation and see whether she can perhaps learn anything about Team Rocket using this hidden base. Anyways, I should be leaving now, thank you Leo perhaps we'll meet again someday."

At that Lance left and his Dragonite waved goodbye while I decided to exit the rocket hideout glad that was done. Seeing all those Pokemon being used for their abilities for the evil of Team Rocket was rather disgusting. Now that was done I decided I would challenge the gym leader Pryce who specialised in Ice Type Pokemon and that might be a good challenge.
