This is a short story I wrote since I haven't had time to get much writing done on MIA ch2. It's quick, and it's different. I hope you all enjoy it.

Reflections

The reflection of moonlight on water was a majestic almost hypnotic sight, thought Jake. His bushy fox tail curled around his side as the waves compelled him to watch. The ripples of the water seemed to dance in sync with time. " Heh, this could be a metronome... " He said with a subdued tone. Jake sat at the edge of the monstrous lake, trying to think of anything other than what had occurred two hours ago. He recalled how his family had gotten the large two story house out in the county had been a mystery to him. How it also had the benefit of a great lake for a back yard was an even bigger mystery, though he didn't dwell on it. He couldn't on a night like this, the crisp scent and warm bursts of country air just wouldn't allow for it. Jake took in all the summer night had to offer. whether it was the scenery of nothing more than a vast forest on all but one side, the lush grass in his immediate vicinity, or the lake that occupied the remaining space. It was what he loved, it was natural, and most importantly it was what liberated him from the rest of society. A rarity which he treasured with all his heart, and it was the only thing that could ease his mind.

Most nights, being able to go out and enjoy his paradise was all that the fox wanted to do. Though, this night he needed the peace it provided. The events which led to his depressing mood played over and over again in his head like a movie. He could see it all so clearly as if it were happening right then. It was in his room with Brian, a coyote he had had a crush on since 6th grade. Brian had just revealed that he had feelings for him the previous week, and Jake couldn't wait to get things started. After a few secret dates over the weekend, they had progressed to more intimate things. That afternoon, Brian was supposed to come over to study with Jake for a test in their biology class, but their study turned more towards anatomy. Foreplay commenced as soon as they were alone in Jake's room, but before they could get into anything serious, Jake's mom walked in on them. Jake couldn't forget the image of his mom's face when she saw where Brian's paw was.

The whole ordeal was more shocking to Jake's parents, then to him. His dad was particularly angry and had screamed at the both of them to get out of his house among other things. Jake's mom began screaming at his father, as Jake and Brian both darted out the door before they got caught up in it. Brian trembling said that he had to go. Jake watched as he walked quickly down the small road and out of sight, leaving him alone to face his parents. He didn't have any intentions of confronting his father, so he had gone to the backyard to think about his situation.

As he reflected on all that had happened, he heard a rustling in the bushes beyond his yard. His attention was quickly diverted from the water when he realized there was someone there. He had a good idea of who it might be and called out " Brian? Is that you? ". the sounds ceased for a moment before a familiar voice called back " Yeah, it's me... " after a second of hesitation, the coyote emerged from the brush. " Hey, I felt kinda bad for leaving you before... Are you ok? " He said with guilt in his voice. " Yeah, I've just been sitting here since... well you know. " Jake said. At this, brain padded his way quickly over to Jake's side and sat down with him. Before Jake could say a word, the coyote had his arms around him. " I'm so sorry I got you into this. " he sad with tears forming in his eyes. Jake returned the hug with and answered in an affectionate tone. " It's not your fault. You didn't know she would walk in. " Brian fought to hold his tears back as they sat together, in the warm of the moonlight. They both looked out into the vast open water and watched as it lapped onto shore. " It will all be ok. I know things look bad, but they will get better. Mom will probably get my dad to calm down by the end of the night, and then I'll talk to him about it in the morning. " Jake said with a hint of perkiness. Brian withdrew his stare from the water and looked into the foxes eyes. " How are you so calm about this? " He said trying to match Jake's demeanor. Jake without missing a beat leaned forward and pressed his muzzle into the coyote's in a deep kiss. When they parted, Jake said calmly " We knew this would happen eventually, and I know we haven't been together long, but after thinking about it, as long as you stay by my side, it doesn't matter " The fox nuzzled the coyote " Besides, as long as I've wanted to be with you, I think you're worth all the trouble. " A smile came to both of their muzzles at that, and they returned their eyes to the gleaming water, letting their minds wander in the comfort of another.
