#7 of Poke U

Rex decides to attend the special office hour with Professor Leo. There, he reflects on what he has gone through so far in the last week. Will Rex learn more about himself, or is it actually Leo who will learn?

Poke U: First Meeting

Rex looked up at the ceiling, his phone in his peripheral view as the time read 9:00 AM. I honestly should get up. I know I have the morning off until Psychology class later, but I don't want to stay in bed forever. Still, Professor Leo did offer me the chance to come meet with him during his office hours. Rex let out a big yawn, before stretching his arms and legs, slowly rising from his bed. He shuffled in his sheets before descending down his ladder, his feet touching the soft, carpeted floor of his and Heart's room. Rex looked over at Heart's bunk, still in pristine condition as if no one has slept in it. Heart is a master of making the bed; I wish I had the ability to do it like him. Oh well, I'll just go my part later. First, I should go freshen up before meeting with Professor Leo.

Rex stepped out of his pajamas, and wrapped a towel around his waist before leaving his room and heading for the showers.

Rex immediately went straight for the stalls, avoiding any eye contact with his other floormates. However, as he turned the corner, he bumped into a particular Pokémon as he fell onto his tail. Rex looked up and saw Gabu looming over him, the look of disgust in his face. Rex immediately apologized and said, "I'm sorry about that...Gabu. I didn't mean to bump into you."

Gabu tapped his foot on the floor as he crossed his arms. "Hmph, watch where you going next time. I'm already late, don't need someone like you to make it worst for me." Gabu briskly walked passed Rex, leaving the bathroom and back into the hallway."

Rex slowly stood up and entered the showers. As he was rinsing himself, Rex thought, What is Gabu's problem? The pressure of the swim meet must be getting to him. I really wanted to ask if there was anything I can do. I just want to know what's up with him. Rex continued to ponder on that thought as he continued to shower.

After some time, Rex left the bathroom, feeling rinsed and refreshed to start the rest of his day. He then headed back to his room, changed into proper clothing, before grabbing his backpack and heading straight to Professor Leo's office.

Ugh, I still can't believe I agreed to this. I know Heart is totally against me doing this. But, I have to be able to stand up for myself. If I feel anything off, then I will just leave, like Professor Leo said. Ok, you got this Rex. You can do this. It's just an office hour, nothing can go wrong, right?

Once Rex arrived at the Psychology department's main building, he took the side route behind the auditorium of where the lecture was held. Remembering his words, Rex saw the stage and the hallway, making the proper turns. Eventually, he looked up and saw a plaque that said, "Professor Leo Signer" on the wall. Rex took a big gulp before he knocked on the door.

A voice from inside said, "Please, come on in."

Rex took a deep breath before his paw turned the doorknob, opening the door and stepping foot inside the office.

Rex stood still as he was shocked by the sight before him. From the outside, the office looked small, but the moment he was inside, there was so much more room than expected. Professor Leo was sitting at his desk, with multiple computer monitors turned on as he looked to be preparing some notes for today's lecture. Near the center of the room were a couch and a chair, one long enough to lay on and another one to sit on. To the side of Professor Leo was another desk, with a Pokémon he has not seen before. The Pokémon smiled, waving her paw at Rex. The Pokémon looked similar to Professor Leo, but had a coat of red instead of blue. Also, instead of red eyes like Professor Leo, there was yellow instead.

"Hello there, you must be Rex. My brother has told me that you would be joining office hours with him on Monday mornings. I'm his twin sister, Luna. But you should address me as Professor Luna instead."

Rex bowed. "Umm...nice to meet you Professor Luna. Are you also a Psychology professor like Professor Leo?"

Professor Luna nodded her head. "That is correct. Both my brother and I teach Psychology here. Although, we teach different levels of this subject. I teach more of the upperclassmen level, while my brother teaches more for the first and second year students. We do share the same office though, since the school thought it be easier for them, and not to mention save them a bit of money...I guess..." Professor Luna said that last statement with a bit of disdain.

Rex looked down at the floor, unsure of what to say. "Oh...I see Professor Luna..."

Professor Luna chuckled a bit. "I should be apologizing for that outburst there Rex. You came here to talk with my brother, not me. I'll just focus here on my work instead. You two can enjoy your little conversation." Professor Luna waved once more to Rex before returning back to her computer, typing away on the keyboard.

Professor Leo rose from his chair and hovered over to the tall chair. "Please Rex, go ahead and make yourself comfortable here."

Rex nodded his head and walked over to the couch. He set his backpack on the floor as he hopped onto it. As Rex pressed his palms onto the cushion, he never felt anything so soft before. Whoa, Professor Leo and Luna sure live the high life or something. This is so velvety soft, I could just melt away and rest here forever. Rex brought his legs up and rested his whole body on the couch, placing his head gently on the pillow by the arm rest. I could stay here forever honestly...

Professor Leo smiled, bringing out a notebook and a pen as he sat on the chair. "You look comfortable there Rex. Glad that I could make it as easy for you as possible."

"It is Professor. This is nothing compared to the mattresses they have on Floor 7. I could just sleep here every day if I could."

"Heh, we wouldn't want that, right Rex? I can't have you sleeping and miss my class. Or do you want another Luster Purge in your face?"

"LEO!" Professor Luna rose from her chair and stared intently at her brother. "Did I just hear you used an attack against our students?"

Professor Leo looked over at his sister and shrugged his shoulders. "I didn't attack them per say. I just used it on the center stage and the light illuminated everywhere. It only affected those who were asleep anyway. No harm, no foul Sis."

Professor Luna slowly sat back down at her seat, but still gave her brother the evil eye. "Still, you don't see me casting Mist Ball with my students. Ugh, you are going to give me a headache if you do that again and a student of yours actually does something about it."

"I'm sorry Sis. I will make sure it does not happen again. You won't report me, will you Rex?"

Rex stared at the two siblings bickering at each other, unsure of how to answer this. "Umm...Uhh...well..." Rex looked at his feet, wiggling his claws as he felt anxiety start to swell upon him, his breathing becoming slightly more rapid.

"LEO! You can't put a student on the spot like that!" Luna slammed her fists on the tablet, causing the cups she placed on her desk to momentarily jump into the sky.

"Alright, alright Luna. Big bro is sorry."

"Leo, I swear to Arceus, you need to watch what you say. Ahem, Rex, if you want me to report my brother, I won't stop you. I'll be more than happy to say something to the Dean, on your behalf."

Rex continued to stare at his feet, unsure of what he should do. I know this is what Heart and everyone else wanted me to do. And I even have Professor Luna backing me up on this too. Then again...I do not want to stir the pot and cause any trouble for anyone. Maybe if something weird happens at the end of this session, I'll bring it up."Umm Professor Luna?"

Professor Luna slowly hovered from her desk and approached Rex. "Yes, what is it Rex?"

"I think after I have my session with Professor Leo, if I still feel somewhat off, then I will take up your offer."

Professor Leo gave off the biggest grin anyone can see miles away, while Luna took a big sigh. "If that is what you want Rex, then I will take your word on it." Luna immediately shot another glare at her older brother. "I'll be observing this just in case, and I will step in if I find anything out of the ordinary. Ok you two?"

Both Professor Leo and Rex nodded their heads. "Of course."

"Good, now you two go ahead and have your little talk, or whatever you want. I'll also be observing as well. Maybe this will be good research material for myself as well." Professor Luna's eyes glowed yellow as her office chair hovered towards her before being gently placed next to her. She then sat on her chair, her eyes glowed yellow again as a notebook and a pen hovered in front of her, ready to take notes on her observation of her brother and his student.

Professor Leo looked at Rex again as he flipped the page on his notebook, his eyes slightly glowing red as his pen hovered in front of the book. "Ok Rex. Normally Office Hours would be used to discuss about course material that you may have questions about. However, this is going to be a little bit different, like I said in class." Professor Luna immediately looked up at her brother, listening to his every words. "Ahem, it's not like you think there dear Sis. Anyway, Rex, we discussed about using this time to help with any troubled thoughts you may have as a new student here at Poke U. This is a safe place, and we will not judge you for what you say. We are here to help you feel as comfortable as you can as you progress through your time here. And like I said, if at any point you want to leave, let us know and you are more than welcomed to. Other than that, any questions?"

Rex shook his head. "No, I do not have any Professor."

Leo smiled. "Good, now let us begin. First, talk about your experience so far here at Poke U."

Rex looked up at the ceiling as he shifted in the couch, relaxing as best as he could. "Well, so far I love everything Poke U has to offered. You know that I am residing in the same building that both you and your sister stayed in and named after you two. I also live in Floor 7, as you know that as well."

Leo continued to take notes, nodding his head. "Mmhmm, go on."

"My roommate is really nice and sweet. His name is Heart and he's a Tyrantrum. He plays football here at Poke U and we share a couple of classes together, namely Chemistry and Biology. He's also very neat and I think he has a bit of OCD. But other than that, I could not have asked for a better roommate."

"Sounds like Heart is the ideal roommate for you then, Rex. It's good to have someone you know you can rely on and be there for you."

"Yes Professor. Heart is someone I know that will stand up for me if I can't do it on my own."

"Good, good. Anyone else you made friends with so far?"

"Well, there are two more I have made as well. Nocturne is my Resident Advisor, and he's a rather interesting fellow. He seems to always complain about everything, waving his sharp claws in the air. However, he also looks out for me and wants to ensure my stay here at Poke U is the best. We only share one class together and that is Archery with Instructor SnipeS. Besides him, I also met a rather unique Bayleef as well. His name is Nico and he also lives on Floor 7. I ran into him in the bathroom by accident, but then we shared lunch together later that day. We actually both have Psychology with you professor. Both him and Nocturne are amazing friends I have glad to have met."

Professor Leo brought a paw to his chin, as if pondering on something. "I see, so it sounds like both Nocturne and Nico are close friends you have made as well on your own. It's good to see you have a support system here at Poke U, especially when you can visit them on the same floor. Luna and I mainly had each other, but we did have other friends as well, like a Sceptile and Charizard you can say. Not to mention an Inteleon and a Noivern."

Rex's eyes popped open as he turned his head towards Professor Leo. "You can't possibly mean..."

"Of course, I am referring to Professor Kain, Professor Sol, Instructor SnipeS, and Chef Vern. All of us resided on the same floor you all are on and we are still close friends to these days. Isn't that right, Sis?"

Professor Luna nodded her head. "Yes, my brother is correct Rex. Kain, SnipeS, Sol, and Vern, we all still hang out to this day. Although, it's a bit harder with Vern because he's busy touring and helping out other restaurant businesses that are struggling. Still, when all of us are here, we go out for dinner and just reminiscence about the good ole days."

Amazed at hearing how all of his professors, and even the chef for their dining hall are so close, Rex's jaw felt like it dropped. "Wow, you guys are still close friends after all these years?"

Professor Leo rolled his eyes. "We aren't that old Rex. But yes, we all lived in the same floor and had mostly the same classes together. And when we had floor battles with the others, we always came out on top. Of course, you know SnipeS is the king at Darts, while Luna and I are good at Table Tennis. Vern and Kain are the king at Foosball and no one can beat Sol in fighting games. We represented our floor pretty well for those game nights. I am sure you and the rest of your floormates will enjoy each other's companies just like we did."

Rex was at a loss for words. Everyone here is really close with one another. No wonder they don't like students falling asleep in their class. They all have the same attitude as well. "I see...Professor..."

"I'm curious. Besides me, what do you think of your other instructors so far?"

Rex was startled by that question, unsure of how he should describe Professor Leo about his friends. Rex had to be careful with what he says though, or else retaliation could occur. "Umm...well...you see..."

"Excuse my brother for not clearing things up a bit more Rex. Ahem." Professor Luna's gentle voice was so soothing and calmed compared to her brother's more sinister tones. "Whatever is said in these walls, will not leave the room. You do not have to worry about any retaliation of any sort. I'll be sure of that Rex."

Hearing that voice calmed Rex's emotions. He smiled as he looked back at Leo, a bit irked at his sister's interference, but nonetheless ready to hear Rex's response. "Instructor SnipeS was my first teacher after meeting with you, Professor Leo. He's a bit of an interesting guy. He has a very strong accent, and sometimes he throws in words and phrases most of us have no idea what he is talking about."

"Oh yea, he transferred from the Galar region. A lot of Pokémon there have a strong British accent. He's a very nice fellow though, and he enjoys his tea time."

"Yea, he did mention that. But anyway, archery class was fun, and having the class with Nocturne made it all the better."

Leo's eyes glowed slightly red as the pen wrote down Rex's experiences so far with his professor. "Always the best to have classes with your friends. SnipeS and I enjoy our time together playing target practice with a lot of things. Though, he does complain about me using my psychic powers from time to time, heh. But anyway, I digress. So, what about your next professor then?"

Rex shifted in his seat again, feeling a bit uncomfortable with who he will describe next. Professor Leo noticed the shift in Rex's demeanor, and silently jotted down more notes. Rex took a deep breath and said, "Professor Sol is my next one. Honestly, he was scary at first. He did not enjoy sleepers or distractions in class. However..." Rex started to get quiet, nervous about what to say next.

Professor Leo tilted his head, unsure of why Rex stopped. "Something the matter Rex? You were about to say something."

Rex started to slowly hyperventilate, unable to control his breathing. "Umm...it's just that..."

"It's okay Rex. You can say whatever you want to say. Both my brother and I are pretty sure we know what you may be talking about. We know a thing or two about Sol and his fiery personality. It'll be alright Rex, you can trust us." Luna smiled at Rex, her gently voice singing inside of Rex's mind.

Rex felt like his heart slowed down to a normal rhythm. Something about Professor Luna is so calming. Such a difference compared to her brother. I wish I took her class instead. "Thank you Professor Luna."

"My pleasure Rex, but go on. Let us know your opinion of our dear Charizard friend Sol."

"Okay. So Professor Sol has a rather aggressive nature behind him. He sort of put me and Heart on the spot when Heart was talking to me during class. I was having a bit of a mini panic attack, and Heart was doing his best to calm me down. Professor Sol just thought we were talking and asked me to apologize in front of the class. I was totally embarrassed..."

Rex felt a wave of anger emanating from Professor Luna, the glow in her yellow eyes being a bit brighter. "Why that Charizard...I know Sol has a bit of a temper, but to put a student like that on Day 1...I should give him a piece of my mind."

"Now, now Luna," Professor Leo chuckled. "You know Sol is like that. But I do agree that acting the way he did was not in good taste to our students. Even though my Luster Purge may have been a bit rough, I still wouldn't call out a student in front of everyone. I would just mentally tell them."

"Well, Sol aint no psychic type Leo. He can't do that."

"Right...but anyway, Rex." Professor Leo smiled at him. "Sol is a bit of a character. When we hung out together, he always seemed riled up about something, like always on the edge. But that is a topic for another time. Anyway, what do you think of Professor Kain?"

Rex was a bit surprised at Professor Leo's forwardness. Wait, when did I tell him I had Biology with Professor Kain. I never once said anything of that sorts...now did I? I guess I did, so why else would Professor Leo bring up his name. "I don't know much about Professor Kain. He's a rather mellow Sceptile. Although, he looks to be a bit more...what's the word...scientifically oriented."

"It's alright if you want to call him a geek. That's Kain for you. Always love his science, especially when he can create tools for his garden. He did get a pushed around a few times, but all of us, and I specifically mean my sister, Sol, Vern, and SnipeS, all stood up for him. He's really a down-to-earth guy, once you get to know him."

Upon hearing down-to-earth, Rex remembered someone else who felt the same, especially in the same class that Professor Kain taught. Rex imagined that Haxorus's body, everything from his head all the way down to his feet. Rex blushed a bit slightly at that thought, when he got a big view of that sole and red claws.

Professor Leo noticed the blush on Rex's face, and a slight grin formed on his face. "Oh, thought of something else about Professor Kain, Rex?"

Rex snapped back from his daydream, a bit started. Rex smiled nervous at Professor Leo and said, "Oh, it's not him, just another classmate I met. He's Heart's friend and quarterback for Poke U. His name is Axel, and he too is also a down-to-earth guy."

Professor Leo nodded his head. "I see, I see. I have heard of him. He's quite popular, especially with the ladies I bet."

"Actually, Professor Leo, I am not sure about that. I mean, I don't think Axel is like, focusing on that right now. He talks a lot about football, but he really didn't talk to me about his personal life."

"Well, then maybe you can talk to him about that then Rex? I mean, how else would you know?"

"Umm, Professor Leo. That is a weird thing to talk about, especially since I just met the guy. Isn't that a bit too personal?"

Professor Luna glared at her brother, as he rolled his eyes at her. "Ok, yes maybe it is a bit too soon to talk about that, but anything else about him Rex?"

Rex looked up at the ceiling, trying to imagine anything else about Axel, but his mind was drawn back to those red claws and black sole again. The blush appeared once more, but Rex shook his mind from the thought. "Umm, nothing else really. Like I said, I only met him once, so I do not know much."

"It's alright Rex, I am sure in due time when you have more weeks into your classes, you will get to know more of your classmates." Professor Leo nodded his head, but a slight smirk appeared on his face. "Anyway, anyone else you met, or is that it?"

Rex eyes wandered around more, thinking back to the last Pokémon he met so far this week. "The only one left is Gabu, and he's a Garchomp. I don't have any classes with him, but I met him at the recreational pool at the Arc with Nocturne."

Professor Leo's ear twitched at hearing that Pokémon Species. "Oh, do tell."

"Well, I don't really know much about him, besides the limited time I met him. I know he is here on a swimming scholarship of some sort, and he swims really fast. Though, he has a bit of an attitude. He looks to be the competitive type and takes things all the time seriously. He did mention he feels tensed and cannot understand why he is not swimming as well as he wants."

Professor Leo leaned in closer to Rex. "Hmm, and I assume you thought about wanting to help him right Rex? You seem like the type to always want to help people."

"You are right Professor, I do. But I think that will also take time as well. I know Gabu and I are on the same floor, but that's about it. I guess if I show up enough at swim practice, I could get to know him more...and then..." Rex whispered the last part to himself."

A grin appeared on Leo's face as he leaned in even closer to Rex, his eyes glowing a bit red, and pulsing with energy. "Oh? You say something there Rex? You trailed off a bit there at the end. Does Gabu have something you want? Or rather, everyone else you have met so far?"

Rex looked up and stared at Professor Leo's eyes, his gaze staring straight into his soul. No matter how much Rex wanted to turn away, he was drawn into the hypnotic gaze of his professor. "No Professor Leo...I mean...Not really..."

Professor Leo's grin widened, as he used more of his psychic power to probe the thoughts of his student. "It's okay Rex. You can tell your professor anything. I won't judge you. So, what does Gabu have that you really want."

Rex started to feel very lightheaded, as his eyes slowly started to glaze over with his continual focus on Professor Leo's vibrant red eyes. "When Gabu was swimming...I couldn't stop staring at his fe..."

"LEO, YOU STOP IT THIS INSTANCE." A Mist Ball was thrown at Leo's direction as he flinched and lost concentration, the glow in his eyes dissipated as Rex's eyes returned to normal.

Rex shook his head, as he felt something was pounding on his skull. "Ugh...what just happened? Professor Leo? Professor Luna?"

Professor Luna immediately hovered over and helped Rex to his feet. "It's all good Rex. My brother may have got carried away with his line of questioning. I think you might be very hungry, that should help cure your headache. I think we are done for today then, right Leo." Professor Luna said that last part with a bit of malice directed at her brother.

Professor Leo shrugged his shoulder, setting down his notes. "Yes Sis, we are done for this session. Anyway, what do you think Rex? Would you like to come back again next week?"

Luna immediately sneered at Leo, gently rubbing on Rex's head. "You don't have to if you don't want to Rex."

Rex smiled at both of his professors. "It's alright Professor Luna. I think I enjoyed the session, honestly. Though it was a bit off at the end, and I can't really put a claw as to why. Anyway, if you are here while I have a session with Professor Leo, I should be fine. Anyway, I am a bit hungry, so I cannot wait to see you again. And I will see you later today Professor Leo. Bye-bye for now." Rex grabbed his backpack, bowed at the Eon twins, and left through the door, heading back towards the Dining Hall.

"Alright Rex, I'll see you later in class as well."

"Have a good day Rex." Professor Luna's eyes glowed as the door closed right behind Rex. She then turned her attention back to her brother. "Ok, want to tell me what that was all about?"

Leo playfully smiled. "What? I don't know what you are talking about?"

"Leo...I'm serious. Don't use any of your psychic powers like that on a student."

"I wasn't like, trying to mind control him or hypnotize him or something. I was just egging him on to talk about what he honestly feels, that is all."

Luna slanted her eyes. "Uh-huh, sure. Just be careful ok. You know we are very powerful, especially with our psychic abilities. We don't want to upset the Dean or anything. Just hold back ok? And also, you better let Rex talk about it willingly. I know we are both good at letting our students talk freely about how they feel. We want our students to full express themselves without feeling regret or shame. But you get carried away a little."

"Yes, Luna, I understand. I did get a bit excited, but I was just curious what Rex wanted. I have a hunch, but I will wait for him to tell me on his own. Maybe, I can help him with that with his time here."

"Well, just be mindful then. Anyway, we should get some food. We should eat at the Dining Hall too. I do miss eating Vern's food."

"Alright, let's go. I am a bit hungry." Leo smiled as he hovered next to his sister, both leaving their office to head to the same Dining Hall as Rex.

*Meanwhile*

Rex was walking briskly back to his dorm area, the thought of food salivating his glands. Though, his mind kept wandering back to the session he just had. I wonder what that was all about. I had a good time with Professor Leo and Luna and they look like they just want to learn more about me. I'll think about it, especially after class later today. Still, what happened at the end there? I remember talking about Gabu and was about to say something, but my mind is a blank? And ugh, this headache! I guess I should hurry it up and get some food. I wonder what we will be eating today...
