The unknown future ch 2.

life anew

5 days they were on the road, traveling true out the day and camping at night. It was still to dangerous to travel in the dark, not this far from civilization. The feral's were hungry out here and without fire there was no way it was possible to defend yourself. Even Jonathan knew that, and he is an experienced assassin. And with him being defenseless without his weapons he stayed close to the fire. That was the only common knowledge that those beasts hated the bright light of a fire. It wasn't a perfect deterrent but it worked mighty fine. Still he would feel a lot safer if he had one of his daggers with him. Thea still had all his weapons, she didn't trust him of coarse. She caught him snooping around her camp only days ago. Although he had a lot off opportunity's to run away he didn't. For one he had nothing in arms nor in defensive equipment, and something about someone else being so close that didn't really want to hurt him seemed to put a little comfort into his mind. Not that he'd ever say it aloud. Maybe he even started to enjoy her company, the thought made him grumble a bit yet it still had a bit off truth to it. He looked around the little campsite they had set up. Thea and her dog Gray were laying in there tent, the fire lighting her face. She looked so peace full, no worry that could keep her awake. He smiled, he envied her. A good night's sleep would be lovely, but he only was able to sleep like that in an inn of some sort so the worry off being attacked was less. He caught himself staring at her, he shook his head getting the clouds out off his mind. As he looked back at the tent he noticed something about gray. Although he was laying down and seemed asleep his ears perked up, and not only that. They were turning, from left to right front and back. Gray opened his eyes. "oh shit, this ain't right" Jonathan thought. He got up and as silently as he could and took one off the sticks he had in the fire. Slowly he crawled towards the tent, gray stood up growling. His hair standing on end. Jonathan stopping dead in his tracks not wanted to get bit by the hound. But he noticed quickly that gray was not looking at him but at the woods behind him. A chill fell upon him, knowing that he had spotted something. "THEA!!! WAKE UP" he yelled. a low and deep growl sounded. But the truly scary thing was that it came from multiple directions. Thea's head shot up, "what's going on?? she asked, still dazed. " We're under attack by feral's!! like a lot. My sword!! NOW!!" her eyes shot open, realization set in as she saw Gray in full attack. " right here" she said as she handed the bag where all his weapons were stored in. Jonathan grabbed the bag as he heard one of the beasts running towards him, he pulled out his sword and with a swing he hit a giant wolf in the head with the flat of his blade. That was way to close for his comfort, but he didn't have the time to celebrate his hit as the beast quickly recovered and went in for another attack. Thea already had her bow and the first arrow at full tension. Jonathan had in the meantime re-positioned himself for the next attack as the arrow went past him and hit the wolf in the side as it ran towards Jonathan. It hurt the feral beast as it howled at the impact and turned away back into the forest. "AWOOOOOOO" a loud howl sounded and at least 3 other howls sounded in response. "oh fuck. There are to meany off them." Thea yelled. "No we got this. Just back me up and throw the fire into that bush there." Thea not being used to getting orders hesitated, but after seeing what he wanted to do she grabbed the stick Jonathan had brought over and threw it in the bushes behind them setting them ablaze. This was enough to give them back protection. She stood in frond of the blazing fire and reloaded her bow. Jonathan stood ready, both looking into the woods seeing 4 pair of glowing eyes. From the left one of the other animals darted towards them, with full force leaps it only took a second for the beast to reach him. This time Jonathan was able to land a perfect attack cutting the beasts throat. A thud sounded as it fell down. The three other giant wolves came walking into view. All off them snarling and teeth bared. They were extremely angry, both Jonathan and Thea were scared of what was going to happen next. Suddenly the first beast leaped forward, Jonathan only had enough time to block the attack. But the next strike from the right he didn't expect. The wolf being able to slash at Jonathan's chest creating three huge wounds. And that wile Thea fired arrow after arrow at the wolf in the left, five arrows were fired in moments. One of them hitting the beast in the eye killing it instantly. But there was no time to celebrate as the first wolf leaped at her mouth wide open going for the kill. No mater what, Thea had no time to pull the string on her bow before the beast was all around her. Right before the wolf was at her Jonathan stabbed the animal straight in the neck spearing its heart killing the monster before it could even touch Thea. She was petrified, thinking she would have died if not for her prisoner. She looked around seeing the wolf he was fighting dead with his sword jammed in its mussel. Looking back at Jonathan she saw him still standing. His hand on the dagger that he used. Not moving an inch. She saw blood, dripping. "wait" she thought the feral's had darker blood, this was bright red. Jonathan dropped down. The realization set is as she saw him laying there. That was his blood. He was hurt, and with the amount off blood that was visible it was badly. For jonathan everything went dark as he fell to the ground.
