Chapter Sixteen

"Tucking Tail"

BH and the hunters ran until they left the campus and once they reached the forest, they set up camp. BH was trying very hard to be patient with them as they kept complaining that they wished Maxx was here to handle the cops. He really didn't want to ruin the illusion, but it was getting annoying.

Unfortunately, even though they were adults, they still behaved as children would. When they learned the truth that Maxx had been telling them stories he saw on television and in movies, he feared how they would react. He just kept telling himself it was their child minds that were the problem.

"Guys, guys! I need to tell you something and I don't want you to get upset." BH finally said, as he decided to tell them a mixture of the truth and a few white lies to ease them into the reality of the situation.

"What is it Woof Woof?" Paul said, and Dabid nodded.

"It's about Maxx. Where we come from, he is known as a storyteller. He tells stories to make species laugh and enjoy themselves. Not all of his stories are real and a number of them were done by other species, even though in his storytelling he says that he did it. He wasn't doing it to lie to you guys but it's just his job as a storyteller." BH tried to explain gently as they scrutinized him.

"Bard! Maxx is a bard!" Dabid exclaimed as he finally caught on and Paul opened his eyes wide and began to nod also.

"Yes, guys, Maxx is a bard and he's a great one. I just didn't know how to explain it to you." BH said with a fake smile, but both hunters seemed to understand and neither seemed bothered now that they knew the truth.

"Now what do we do to get the son of our enemy?" Dabid finally asked after the long uncomfortable silence.

"I dunno... The cops know we were here and will be expecting us to return. That will make it almost impossible to sneak in again. I fear we may have to give up on getting him. I wonder if there is another way..." BH replied and although the hunters were listening to him, the last part was him mostly talking to himself.

"Will we go home then?" Dabid asked.

"Unless anyone has any better ideas." BH asked and the hunters shrugged. "Then get some sleep because we'll leave at first light.

We waited for what felt like an eternity before the campus police returned to check on us and ask us about the intruders. There wasn't much we could say without revealing that my father had hacked into their security feed and sent us advanced warning of the intruders making their way inside.

"So we were expecting two felines because one of them was dropping something off and when we opened the door it was the whnitye wolf and those strange creatures with them." I lied and hated doing it but felt my family's honor was more important. I hoped that if anything was mentioned about my fibbing that father would stick up for me. Of course knowing father, he would right after he punished me for doing it.

I also wanted to make sure the two cats we saw captured by BH and his cronies would be found if we mentioned them coming over. If the police did nothing then I was determined to go look for them to try and untie their ropes.

"Could those intruders have stolen the IDs of the felines in order to gain access?" Ben asked the officers in order to make sure that they'd look for them. If they checked the logs and cameras I was sure they'd see them captured and would be able to know where to look.

"It's possible," The officer remarked as he was making notes in a small pad he held. Both canines were yellow labradors, like uncle Jon was, but it was odd how stiff they seemed in talking to us. I guess I was so used to uncle Jon that I expected them to act like him.

Lyon had wandered off back to his room to finish his weight training leaving Ben and myself to finish up with the Campus Police.

"So you said their leader was a white colored wolf? Is he any relation to you guys at all?" The officer asked.

"I suppose we all look alike to you guys because of our fur color." Ben said indignantly then he walked away annoyed. I watched him and shook my head then turned back to the officers who seemed to have ignored the comment.

"What did his accomplices look like?"

"They had almost no fur on but they had what looked like animal skins cut into clothing... sort of. Like naked mole rats or maybe chihuahuas. I really dunno what they were except they had almost no hair except on their heads." I lied trying to conceal the fact that they were hairless apes.

"There is a chinese dog that only has fur on its head, forget what it's called. Could they have been canines?" The other officer asked. I shrugged and the first officer put away his notepad.

"We'll be around on patrol and call us if they return." he told me and I nodded. They both walked away muttering to each other as Im closed the door and returned to the video feed. I waited and after several minutes or so the officers exited the building and drove off in their vehicle.

"So much for their patrol," I remarked and Ben came over and sat next to me on the couch and kissed my cheek as he wrapped his arms around me.

"I don't think those two could catch a cold." Ben said then he began to gently bite my neck.

"Stop... be serious for a moment." I whined but put up no resistance at all as Ben ignored me and continued.

"So what'd we tell the guards when they arrive in the morning?" Lyon yelled at us from his room. I took a moment to steady my voice before I replied to him as Ben continued nibbling my neck.

"I'll think of something. Worry more about father because he's gonna want a report on the whole incident." Ben immediately stopped and moved away from me as I looked at him a little bit hurt that he suddenly stopped.

"A report?!" Ben suddenly said after he thought it over for a bit.

"Well he's been looking for BH and with his new connection to the hairless ones and them coming with him tonight, father will want to know everything that happened." I explained.

"Does he watch us constantly?" I saw him blush slightly.

"Why? Afraid he's gonna want you to get... cut!" I gestured the act of neutering Ben and I saw him jump and he blushed deeper as I laughed.

"It's not funny," he said as he rose and stormed away angrily and I bent my head over the couch to look at him.

"I was only joking. I mean come on you know my father loves you and if he had the power he'd make us get our paws tied immediately."

"But... What if I do something to piss him off? Then what?" he asked.

"We'll worry about that bridge... IF we ever come to it." I straightened and rose to join him. He looked down at his feet as I stood in front of him and used the claw on my index finger to lightly play with the white fur on his chest.

"They said my sister told them where we live. If anything were to happen then it was because of me."

"Knock it off, you'd have nothing to do with it." I replied as I now glared at him. I couldn't believe he was willing to take the blame because his sister is a bitch. I watched him go to his room and sulk as he laid down on his bed.

"That went well," I said to myself.

The next morning, we rose as my father's guards banged on our door. Ben was the first to answer as Lyon and I rose and rubbed our eyes.

"OK guys let's go! We have orders from your father to retrieve the three of you and the rabbit named Dash." The security slave stated. I looked and saw the red collar on him as a reminder that he was our father's property and forced to obey him.

Father had explained to us that over the years agents and such had been sent to cubnap him but everytime he turned the trick against them and put slave collars on them as a punishment for failure. He has many security slaves, because he turns them into security guards after he collars them,

"We're packed and ready." I said after I yawned and three or four security officers ran in and collected the bags that we pointed to and they carried them out as if they were soldiers following orders.

"Where can we find the rabbit?" The lead officer asked and Lyton explained where Dash lives.

Lou sat at his desk and nervously waited for his security team to bring the children home. He had been watching everything closely since the incident last night. He was now exhausted but he refused to sleep until he knew for certain that his boys were safe and sound. Leggo slept through it all and had no idea why Lou had missed breakfast before he left for work. To him it was just another normal day.

Lou let out a huge sigh of relief as he saw the van pull into the driveway and he rose and carefully rushed out to meet them to check on his sons. He knew he had to control himself but every fiber in his being wanted to run out there and scoop them all up and bring them inside. Even if he knew he was not strong enough to do it.

"I trust your trip was uneventful," he said and he saw Tyger glare at him with those piercing feline eyes that made him afraid. Even though he knew his son would never hurt him the prey that he was made him terrified when he got the look. He usually had to play it off so that it never bothered him to keep himself from running in fear.

Lou suddenly began tro panic as the three felines suddenly ran towards him and like a proverbial deer caught in the headlights he was powerless to flee. Ben, Tyger, and Lyon each grabbed him in a group hug that took him a moment to relax before he returned it and he kissed the foreheads of each one and hugged them tightly. Even Ben, who was not his natural son like Tyger and Lyon were, got an extra tight hug and a kiss.

Dash was busy strutting his stuff as he balked orders at the security officers, who in turn just stared at him. Lou walked over to him last and scratched him behind his ears, which brought a smile to the rabbit's face. Before anything more could be done the maid appeared and began to bark orders as the security officers ran to carry out her wishes.

"Tell me what happened." he said sternly to Tyger and his son nodded before explaining about BH and the hairless apes.

"...then Campus Police showed up and chased them off." Tyger said as he finished the tale.

So he wanted to use you to get me to make some sort of deal for him?" Lou said incredulously. The three nodded then Ben kicked Tyger's ankle.

"OW!" Tyger cried out and he looked at Ben who then immediately cleared his throat. Lou looked at him wondering what they were up to. Tyger straightened himself as Lyon was shouting for Dash to rejoin them. Ben slowly backed away with a look of annoyance on his maw as he mumbled an excuse then walked away. Lou kept his eyes fixed on him but Tyger suddenly cleared his throat and Lou returned his gaze back to them.

"Father, Lyon, Dash, myxelf, and Ben," Tyger said as he turned to give a quick glance at his boyfriend leaning against the van, not looking in their direction.

"Anyway, We've been working hard all semester to try and earn extra money because when we found out that you were not coming with us to the Power Fur Ranger Con, we raised the money to buy you a ticket." Tyger said as he handed the ticket and special passes to his father. Lyon and Dash were behind him both smiling.

Lou made a shocked expression then his expression changed to a look of warmth and compassion and he tenderly hugged the cubs. He then saw the look Tyger was giving Ben as he watched him and he cradled the cub in his arms.

"Something wrong?" Lou asked.

"Yeah... the three of us were so busy trying to get the money that we forgot to ask Ben. He feels left out." Tyger replied softly, his voice breaking as he was trying to hold back his emotions.

"I see," Lou replied as he released Tyger and strolled over to Ben and grabbed him and gave him a big hug.

"Thank you Ben," Lou said as the white tiger looked at him confused. "You have given me the greatest gift! You kept my boys safe and I can't thank you enough." Lou said and Ben looked at him blankly at first then nervously as he tried to figure out what to say.

Ben looked as if he was trying to find the right words to say when Lou gripped his paw and pulled him over to join the other three.

"You don't know what this means to me! I thought you'd never want to have me join you at the Con but seeing how all four of you worked together... For the first time I truly feel... loved." Lou said and he broke down into tears as he led them inside while the maid was still busy ordering the security officers about where to deliver the cub's belongings. Then she had them leave Dash's stuff inside the van to drive to his place to drop them off.

As the Power Fur Ranger Con was ending and the family was preparing to return home, BH and the hunters had finally reached their home as well. They had stolen multiple cars so they could drive the whole way rather than spending months walking back.

The hunters had started bugging BH to teach them how to drive but BH wasn't brave enough to do it. He was afraid they'd be found by the police because of the reckless and inexperienced driving the hunters would do. The hunters soon found that cars had radios and they began to listen to everything no matter how much BH found it annoying.

Old radio broadcasts where stories were told on the radio, before televisions were invented, held the most enjoyment for the hunters and didn't irritate BH as much as country music and Hip Hop music did. The hunters had no idea that those kinds, as well as others, kinds of music existed. They were only used to the tribalistic drums from their village.

After they passed the last city, BH made them get out and walk the rest of the way home. As much as they wanted to bring the car into their village BH refused because he didn't want it to cause trouble for the elders as the younger folk fought over it.

When they entered the village they immediately went into the center where Maxx was addressing the villagers. Everyone was gathered around him and even a few of the children sat at his feet as he told them one of his stories.

Maxx was no longer wearing the clothes he had when they captured him but he was dressed as the other villages were in rough animal skins except his was a mish mash of various pets tied together that it made a broad display of color.

BH saw Hueman sitting in a chair up close to where Maxx was telling his story. Hueman looked sad and depressed as if he didn't care what Maxx was saying even though the entire village seemed captivated by Maxx's tale.

"So there we were, the two of us back to back," Maxx was telling his audience as they hung on with bated breath. "Captain Jack the sparrow and me were surrounded by the skeleton pirate dogs as they closed in to get the two coins that they needed to break the spell of their curse. We looked at each other and I asked Jack.

'How are we gonna get out of this one?' Well Captain Jack wasn't afraid in the slightest and he turns to look at those dogs as they looked like skeletons in the moonlight.

'How appropriate, you fight like a cow!!!" he yells his battle cry and as the skeleton dogs look at each other in confusion we rush in swords blazing. In seconds Captain Jack broke them into piles of bones and as they tried to put their pieces back together we made our escape." Maxx said. The villagers cheered and shouted and the children screamed with delight. Even Dabid and Paul ran to join their friends as they listened to the tale.

BH shook his head as he realized Maxx was giving away the plot to Ghost Pirates of the Caribbean. He walked over to Hueman who casually looked up at him then did a double take and jumped into his arms.

"Woof Woof!" Hueman exclaimed as he buried his face in BH's white fur. BH gave a soft squeeze as he held the lad.

"Hey kid, miss me?" BH asked as he smiled. Maxx walked over and sat in a hair next to where Hueman had been. He sat and grabbed a large cup of water then loudly burped. BH stared as he watched the giant bull scratch his private area.

"Man this thing is itchy," Maxx complained.

"Seems you made yourself at home." BH said.

"I hope none of them ever learn about TV or I'm finished." Maxx said and BH started laughing uncontrollably.

"I miss you." Hueman said as he continued to snuggle and BH began to rub the boy's back to get him to relax

"Anything happen while I was gone?" BH asked Maxx but he also looked at Hueman.

"I was appointed as the official bard of the tribe. The whole tribe has been practising a welcome celebration that the little guy wanted to put on for when you return." Maxx explained.

"Papa Sean died," Hueman said as tears filled his eyes and BH grabbed him and squatted as he looked the boy in the eyes.

"Papa?" BH said incredulously. He was suddenly remembering when Tyger used to call him that and how the feline still had the dildo he bought him.

"He said he was my papa and that he and momma mated then afterwards I was born." Hueman said then he clung tighter to BH as he began crying. BH hugged the lad and then looked back at Maxx.

"A welcome celebration?" he asked Maxx as he gently rocked the boy as he continued to hug him.

"Hueman made you his right paw or hand species because you were sent by... what's his name to save them. He has promoted you and you also have a new name now. The tribe is calling you Reverend Lord now. The ceremony is to celebrate you and the tribe now calls themselves 'The White Wolf People.' I'm supposed to think up a great story to tell during the ceremony... Do you have a favorite movie that I know of?" Maxx asked.

"How much time do I have to think about it?"

"The ceremony will probably be tonight...I guess." Maxx shrugged. BH turned his focus back on Hueman and began to examine his body. He was looking thinner than the last time and he was falling asleep in the wolf's arms.

"When was the last time you ate food?" BH asked.

"When Woof Woof leave. I ate little but fast that Gawd will return him safe."

"Let's get you food you're too thin." BH replied and led the boy into his house. Maxx watched them leave but one of the few children of the tribe ran up asking for another story. Maxx didn't have the heart to say 'no' so the child led him back to the others where he prepared for another performance. He just wondered what show he should tell them about.

"Hey Woof Woof," Paul shouted and several of the villagers ran over and slapped Paul screaming at him for not using the title Reverend Lord. The stunned hairless ape was at a loss for why he was being attacked. It wasn't the first time something like this had happened but it always made BH shake his head. How was anyone supposed to know the rules changed if no one told everyone about it?!

BH led the boy inside his house and he mother was busy cleaning as she saw then enter she stopped and dowed respectfully.

"Blessings Reverend Lord," she remarked and it took a second as BH heard the new name he was given. After hearing Woof Woof for so long he was almost beginning to miss it.

"Can you get him some broth? I want to make sure he eats something." BH said and she nodded as she went to prepare a bowl and get some bread to soak up the juices. He was going to have to start out with simple foods until he was ready to begin eating regular meals again. If he just ate regular food right away his body would try and purge it.

BH put the boy in a chair next to the table and as he was about to walk away to get the bowl from his mother, Hueman threw a fit that BH was walking away from him. Both BH and the boy's mother watched him in amazement at how attached the lad was to the white wolf. Hueman finally calmed as BH breturned to his side and rested his paw on the lad's head.

"I promise, I won't leave you." BH whispered and the boy hugged his waist again refusing to let go. The boy's mother averted her eyes and went back to cleaning but BH knew she was watching him very carefully.

The trouble was that although he was some kind of prophet to them he was still a boy and he lacked the proper upbringing he should have. They had let him run wild and now this was a sample of the consequences because they had not raised him correctly. BH knew he was going to have to put his foot down and set some rules or Hueman was only going to get worse.

Still, Hueman had done him the biggest service by giving him the strange new name of Reverend Lord. Now that they were calling themselves The White Wolf People, he could formalize them into his army as he continued to prepare them for liberating The White Citadel and Bear.

He watched the boy hungrily eat the broth and bread and the boy's mother made sure he had enough to eat until the boy was completely full. He then carried the lad as he was slumping now that sleep was setting it. He then carried the lad to bed and laid down next to him until he was completely sure he was asleep.

While he laid there next to the boy he contemplated his next move. He was going to need a new plan now that he lost his chance at getting Tyger as a bargaining chip. He just wasn't sure what to do next.
