Warmth.

Eyes opened to pain as light flooded into them. Slowly, the figure arose, joints crackling as they prepared for use.

How long had the creature been asleep?

Time might tell, but it seemed it had woken up in a different world..a different time, even.

The Force tried to prepared itself in vain. Change was coming with the end of the creature's hibernation.

The first sign had come to pass.

Even Aslan wasn't ready for what the future would bring.

Chapter 1

The creature looked around. Grass wet with dew swam around it like a sea. Grass stretched on for miles. It breathed in the natural scent. Vaguely, this set off something...a memory. As good as the smell was, the cold was disagreeable. It stretched as more joints popped and cracked and set each foot out. One followed the other. Four feet. It was a novel experience, and although the activity came from instinct, it felt strange.

A breeze rustled through the grass.

It jumped and spun around with such force, green shards flew in every direction. It's eyes were still adjusting, but there was something out there.

Suddenly a blinding flash caused it to shriek and it cowered and haphadzardly stepped back. A warmth seared it's face and such intensity, that it felt it would fade into the Dark. It whimpered and stepped back. Slowly it opened it's eyes. A floating, glowing orb buzzed in front of it. At its center was...nothing. Pure light. It reached out to touch and flesh seared as it cried out.

It had had enough.

It leaped with a roar and batted the orb aside. Flesh collided with heat, but the creature's rage just grew as it withstood the pain and battled with the orb. It swatted the orb and it bounced off the grass. A black scorch replaced the grass that once stood there.

Panting, the creature stumbled to the ground, tired and horribly burnt. THe creature slowly lifted its head and surveyed the damage. Parts of it were burned so bad, it couldn't move. Why had it attacked the orb? It was in so much pain and as it closed it eyes and tried to remain motionless, wished it could escape permanently into the Dark.

The orb slowly floated down and floated above the creature, warming it as it slept.
