This Week's Writing Challenge: "It was a most unexpected interruption."

My family history is a bit complicated compared to most families I know. My parents divorced when I was in middle school. From what my Mom said, Dad was cheating on her with someone they knew and she filed for divorce immediately after learning about it. Though considering the last few years they were together, I wouldn't exactly say that would have surprised anyone. I can still remember all the arguments they were having leading up to it. Once all the dust settled, Mom was granted custody of me and moved away. From there, mom had a few boyfriends right until she married my current stepdad about two years ago and I got a little half brother out of it. While I do like my step father and my half brother, I don't really fit in with them in a sense.

I am a hybrid, specifically a bearhound though I look more from my dad than my mom. I would usually stick out like a sore thumb at family get-togethers since I was the only bearhound in a room full of canines. They try to be nice but I could always feel their eyes on me. Since then I always wanted to get back in contact with my dad and his side of the family. Once the divorce was finalized, I lost contact with that side of the family. Sure dad and his parents would send cards and stuff on holidays, but it wasn't the same as being in person.

But that changed during my last birthday, when Dad added his email and phone number to my birthday card. Almost immediately after the party I started to reconnect with him after being apart for years. We soon started to talk everyday and catch up on all the things that have happened since we went our separate ways. We would text and call each other everyday over the past few months, reconnecting and telling each other about our days. Then I learned he was only a couple hours away. Once I learned that, I talked about actually spending time with him in person once I graduated from highschool.

That leads me to right now, five minutes away from where my dad lives. After a long drive, I was so excited to see him after so long that I was bouncing in my seat. I will only be staying with him for a week, but we already had a full week plan of spending time together.

I pulled up to the gate of the apartment complex and punched in the code that my father gave to me. The gates open with a beep and I drive through. All of the buildings looked the same except for the big letters on the side identifying the buildings. I drive through the complex until i see building J, the one my dad lives in.

I park in an available slot and grab my bags. I walked over to the apartment that said he lived in. I knocked on the door, probably a bit too hard in my case and waited. After about three minutes, I was still standing at the door to be let in. I wonder what is taking him? I look into the parking lot and see the car dad drives, or at least the car he describes driving. His car is here, so maybe he didn't hear me. I knocked again and called out, "Dad? Are you there?" no replay. I am much earlier than I said I would be so maybe he is just busy. Without really thinking about it, I turned the knob of the door and found it was unlocked. Did he leave it unlocked for me?

I pushed open the door and walked inside. Immediately in front of me was the living room, with a large couch along the wall and a TV across from it, with a small table. Right next to the living room was a smallish kitchen area. And in between the kitchen and the living room was a closed door.

I place my bags on the couch, "Dad?" I called out, "are you here? You left the door unlocked, so I let myself in."

Behind the door, I heard some noises. The knobs turned and slowly opened. Behind the door, stood a brown bear, standing there breathing heavily, wearing only his underwear. I knew it was him right away. He might have grown older, and rounder, since I saw him, but that was most definitely my Dad. His eyes grew wide as he saw me, "Drake? Drake is that you?"

Emotions overwhelmed me as I rushed over to him and gave him a big hug, my head laying on his shoulder, "Dad, it's been so long, I haven't seen you since," I trail off since my eyes caught something.

The room behind dad was a bedroom, it was clean and neat, but what caught me was the naked bloodhound searching through the clothes strewn across the floor, his cock out of his sheath.

I broke away from Dad as I sort of realized what I just saw, my face growing red and my tail between my legs, "oh uh, shit sorry. I didn't mean to interrupt you I uh."

"I-it's fine," Dad stamped as he stepped away, "just give us a moment to look presentable." He quickly closes the door.

I quickly sat on the couch. Fuck fuck fuck. I can't believe I just interrupted dad's time with his boyfriend. I thought it would be a good idea to come early so I could spend more time with him, but I probably just made things awkward for everyone.

After a few minutes pass, the bedroom door opens and dad and his boyfriend come out. "H-hey Drake," dad said as he stood there awkwardly, "I'm sorry about what happened."

"No no it's my fault," I responded, "It was my idea to come early, I didn't think you were with your boyfriend. I just saw the unlocked door and thought that was for me."

"No, I should have locked the door first."

"No its-"

"Alright enough," the bloodhound interrupted, "you're definitely his son alright. If i don't step in you two would probably spend the whole day apologizing." he stretched out his hand to me, "names Nathen, Roger told me a bit about you."

"Oh sure." I shake his hand, "Dad told me about you as well. You've been dating for a year right?"

"Sure have," he laughed, "been with this teddy bear for a whole year, kind of hard to believe. Still feels like it was yesterday I saw this bear drunk off his ass hitting on everyone that moved close to the bar."

Dad's face goes a bit red, "Nat, I thought you said you wouldn't tell him that."

Nathan laughs, "oh right. I just forgot."

"That's not how I was told." I said, "Dad said you guys met at a wedding reception."

Nathan gives off a big smile, "yeah, at the weddings receptions bar. It was quite a sight." he pulls out his phone, "hold on i might have a video still."

"Alright enough," dad said as he put Nathan's hand down, "let me at least keep my dignity while my son is around."

"Alright babe," the bloodhound gives dad a kiss, "i should get the stuff for tonight anyway, so i will see you later." he opens the front door and before closing it said, "and you better be less awkward by the time you come by later or no steaks for either of you."

I turn back to Dad and give him a hug, "its good to see you again dad."

He returns the hug, "its good to see you too, Drake."
