#19 of Pokemon - To Catch Them All

Leo arrives in Johto and begins catching some new Pokemon

Leo slept well after the exhausting work of caring for so many Pokemon to the point that when the sun rose, shining through the curtains Leo was unfazed covering his eyes with his blanket. The Rotom Phone decided now was the perfect time to wake Leo up with an alarm. However, after being on the road for so long, I'd returned to my old habits and decided to ignore the alarm and sleep some more in my comfy warm bed. As you might expect, that wouldn't last forever if some Pokemon had anything to say about it.

Blastoise was waiting outside his trainers home and was wondering where his master was, it was getting late in the morning and ordinarily he should have awoken by now. Leo's mother soon opened the door curiously looking around, "I see that boy hasn't awakened yet. Your all free to wake him up yourselves if you desire." Upon receiving permission, Blastoise entered the home and headed up the stairs, he was followed by Gengar which wasn't much of a surprise. They entered the door and looked over at their beloved trainer, seeing him fast asleep blissfully unaware of the outside world.

Blastoise approached slowly, preparing himself to drag the quilt of his trainer, however Gengar had a more amusing plan. Gengar flew above Leo and used his ghostly body to remove the quilt and lift Leo up shaking him around laughing. Blastoise was not as amused firing a light hearted Hydro Pump stopping Gengar and definitely waking up Leo. I opened my eyes in sudden shock, noticing I was dripping with water, seeing an apologetic Blastoise gesturing to a laughing Gengar. I sighed accepting Blastoise's apology before wondering if there was any way to get back at the mischievous Gengar. Still I got out of bed and got ready following my morning routine before heading downstairs and preparing breakfast for my Pokemon.

Once that task was done I prepared my own breakfast and began wondering about the Johto region and how I would bring it up to my mother. Speaking off my mother she sat down opposite me and asked, "so what are you plans for today?" I pondered that question before answering. "I've caught pretty much every Pokemon in Kanto but to complete my dream, I need to visit all the regions. So, I'd like to head over to Johto sometime today." Mother smiled in agreement knowing that was my plan all along. "Perhaps Professor Oak may have some advice on Johto for you." Mother advised and it wasn't a bad idea perhaps he knew some things that could be of assistance.

I grabbed my Rotom Phone and made a call for Professor Oak and he answered, "Leo my boy, how are you doing?" I smiled at his enthusiasm, "I've caught almost every Pokemon in Kanto. Now I'm heading over to Johto to complete the Pokedex there too." Professor Oak made an astonished sound. "To have already caught so many Pokemon in Kanto in such a short time. It's nothing short of impressive. Well if you want to get to Johto, use a Flying Type and head West and you'll reach New Bark Town. Once you get there have a word with the Professor there, his name is Professor Elm and he researches Pokemon eggs. Well, I don't want to keep you for long, have a safe and wonderful journey in Johto. I wish you the best of luck." At that I thanked him and hung up.

I headed outside and explained to the Pokemon what my next step was, "everyone could you please gather, I have an announcement." At that every one of my Pokemon immediately stopped what they were doing and listened in curiously. "I've decided to journey through Johto next to catch every Pokemon. However, each and every one of you will still be joining me, using my Rotom Phone we can still journey together." The Pokemon cheered at the fact they could continue travelling together, but they also knew that their trainer would be awfully busy training the new Pokemon he caught. "Don't think I am abandoning or forgetting any one of you while I travel. I will always think of each and every one of you." That cheered everyone up and realistically they all knew that I wouldn't abandon them.

At that I grabbed everything I needed and asked Charizard if he could fly me the distance to the Johto Region, luckily the distance wasn't too great and Charizard had been trained well. As we were flying I noticed that when we arrived in Johto I saw several different Pokemon that didn't inhabit Kanto, those being Hoothoot and even a Skarmory but I'd leave them for now. A few hours past by and I could see a small town below us and I gestured for Charizard to land there. Charizard landed and I returned him to his Pokeball thanking him for what must have been an exhausting flight. However Charizard seemed unfazed by the journey but happily accepted the praise.

Once down on the ground I looked around and soon spotted the Pokemon laboratory and decided to enter, if only to introduce myself to Professor Elm. Upon entering I knew I was in the right place, seeing how technologically advanced the building was. "Hmm, hello there, you must be Leo. Professor Oak mentioned a talented trainer from Kanto would be arriving here." I turned to see who was speaking and noticed a man in a lab suit, I could only assume he was Professor Elm. "I assume your Professor Elm?" The man nodded, "yes I am Professor Elm, its wonderful to meet you. I hear your aiming to complete the Pokedex, a wonderful goal you have there." I was enjoying myself while travelling through the regions.

"Oh yes, I recently had an email from my acquaintance Mr Pokemon. I believe it has something to do with an egg. However, I'm much to busy with my research, would you be able to go in my stead, I'm sure that Johto will have many new Pokemon for you to see and catch. I doubt it would be a waste." I agreed and received some directions to this Mr, Pokemon. At that I left the lab and headed West to explore the newest Route of Johto that being Route 29 which according to a sign led to Cherrygrove City. Using my Rotom Phone I found that there was only two new Pokemon found here, the rest were all from Kanto and I had already caught those ones.

The ones I hadn't caught were Sentret a Normal Type and Hoothoot a Normal and Flying Type. I had brought along my Exeggutor simply because his Hypnosis would be great at allowing me to catch these beginning Pokemon without hurting them since there was a massive difference in the level of strength. Eventually I came across said Sentret and sent out Exeggcute. The Sentret must have realised how outmatched it was and attempted to flee but Exeggutor calmed the Pokemon down using Hypnosis allowing me to throw a Pokeball which captured the Sentret.

"Sentret has been registered to your Pokedex. Sentret the Scout Pokemon a Normal Type. It has a very nervous nature. It stands high on its tail so it can scan wide areas." I woke Sentret up with an awakening before introducing myself to the now calm and intrigued Sentret. I mentioned how it was my dream to complete the Pokeded and catch every Pokemon from every region. This seemed to intrigue the Sentret who was more than happy to grow stronger with his new trainer. Exploring with Sentret following me, we soon encountered a Hoothoot.

Sentret eagerly entered the battle against Hoothoot and I checked to see what moves Sentret knew. Rotom informed me Sentret knew, Growl, Scratch, Defence Curl and Quick Attack, some decent moves for a beginning Pokemon. "Sentret Quick Attack!" Sentret darted off as quick as a blur before striking Hoothoot unawares. Hoothoot got up slowly glaring at Sentret. Hoothoot retaliated using Peck diving down at the panicking Sentret. "Sentret calm down and use Quick Attack!" Sentret regained his confidence and collided against Hoothoot. The two pushed against one another, with Sentret prevailing.

"Pokeball go!" I threw the Pokeball and watched as it shook once, twice, three times before the capture was confirmed. "Hoothoot has been registered to your Pokedex. Hoothoot the Owl Pokemon a Normal and Flying Type. It switches its standing foot so quickly that the switch can't be seen. It cries at the same time every day." I released Hoothoot healing both him and Sentret before introducing myself to the curious Owl Pokemon. Hoothoot quietly observed before nodding his acceptance before flying to my head overlooking everything around him. Not to be left outdone, Sentret climbed up and landed on my shoulder too.

I briefly headed up to Route 49, to see whether there were any new Pokemon available to be caught there but upon seeing Spearow and Geodude I returned back to continue exploring. Following the route I dealt with the multitude of wild Pokemon that battled me before reaching Cherrygrove City. Upon arriving I had Sentret and Hoothoot healed before continuing onward up to Route 30. Exploring the route and making my way up to Mr Pokemon's place I came across a new Pokemon I'd yet to catch. It was a Spinarak which had weaved a web across some nearby trees.

"Hoothoot use Peck, careful to avoid the web!" Hoothoot nodded and struck the Spinarak with Peck before it could even react. Since it was super effective I threw a Pokeball at the weakened Pokemon. "Spinarak has been registered to your Pokedex. Spinarak the String Spit Pokemon a Bug and Poison Type. It sets a trap by spinning a web with thin but strong thread. It waits motionlessly for prey to arrive."

When I healed Spinarak, he seemed to be rather shy compared to many other Bug Pokemon I'd caught in the past. Given time however, Spinarak showed me that he was a strategic battler, relying more so on his silk and size against larger Pokemon. Continuing on I spotted a Ledyba flying around the trees dancing from flower to flower.

"Hoothoot another Peck if you wouldn't mind" Hoothoot flew forward and struck the surprised Ledyba with a super effective hit, knocking the Ledyba out of the sky. "Pokeball go!" I watched as the Pokeball shook once, twice, three times before the capture was confirmed. "Ledyba has been registered to your Pokedex. Ledyba the Five Star Pokemon a Bug and Flying Type. It's so timid that it can't move unless its with a swarm. It conveys its feelings through scent."

Ledyba hovered around his new trainer curious as to what this trainer was like, personality wise. I showed him that I was a caring and powerful trainer who treated every Pokemon, whether they be weak or strong at the same level of respect. While we made our way through the route, I soon spotted a house up the route. It sure seemed as though this was Mr Pokemon's home.

I knocked and the door and a man opened it, asking me to step inside, he seemed like a rather invigorated fellow. "I assume your here from Professor Elm's laboratory. I sent an email there earlier, however, I know he is a rather busy gentlemen and as such could I ask you to deliver this egg to him." At that Mr Pokemon handed me a egg that didn't give off any strange feelings that made it unique or special in my eyes.

Mr Pokemon thanked me once more and allowed me to leave after having my Pokemon healed as his way of thanking me. I returned back through Cherrygrove and returned to New Bark Town. I headed to the laboratory and Professor Elm was curious about the discovery Mr Pokemon had made. I handed him the egg and he was curious as to what it would be.

Professor Elm decided he would observe the egg while thanking me for going on an errand for him. Once that was done I returned to the task at hand and began training the newest Pokemon. I headed back to Route 30 and began making my way through the numerous trainers who challenged me. The first was a youngster who sent out a Rattata and I sent out my Spinarak.

Spinarak began by using String Shot to pin Rattata down to the ground before using a rapid fire Poison Sting to defeat the immobilised Rattata. Continuing on another youngster who sent out a Pidgey and I sent out Hoothoot for an aerial battle. Hoothoot defeated the Pidgey with relative ease using Peck. The next Pokemon sent out was a Rattata and I substituted for give Sentret a chance to battle, having him overwhelm Rattata with Quick Attack winning the battle.

Next was a bug catcher who sent out a Caterpie and I sent out my Ledyba for his first battle against a trainer and boy did he not disappoint. Ledyba confused Caterpie with Supersonic before then using Swift to defeat Caterpie. The same strategy worked against the second Rattata send out as well. After defeating the wild Pokemon I reached Route 31 and did some research on my Rotom Phone realising I had already caught the Pokemon previously on my journey.

I soon came across a cave that had been aptly called Dark Cave, simply because to explore the cave you needed a Pokemon which could produce some light to make it safe to explore. As of yet I had no Pokemon from Johto that could do that. I also didn't want to rely upon my Pokemon in Kanto simply because it would feel wrong on a strange level I couldn't fully explain.

Heading to the West I continued exploring and was challenged by a bug catcher who sent out three caterpie and a single Weedle however, through the efforts of Hoothoot repeatedly using Peck the battle was won. After that there were no more trainers blocking my path and I reached Violet City. The first city that offered a gym for me to battle but that made me wonder, did the Pokemon I was travelling with even want to challenge gyms.

I called out to my Pokemon and they gathered listening curiously to see what their master had to say. "I know I want to catch every Pokemon to complete the Pokedex, but what do you want, do you like battling? How about challenging the most powerful trainers like the gym leaders?" That got their attention as they all clambered about enjoying battles and catching Pokemon too for me.
