#17 of Pokemon - To Catch Them All

Leo catches the remainder of Kanto Pokemon, minus some legends

After earning the Earth Badge from Blue I had now received all eight gym badges from Kanto but I still had some things I needed to do in Kanto before I moved on. There were still some Pokemon I hadn't yet caught on my journey and they were. Exeggcute, Hitmonlee and Lickitung were the remaining Pokemon I needed to catch minus the legendary Pokemon which I would save for the end of my journey when I was far more experienced. Still using my Rotom Phone I did some research on where the following Pokemon lived.

Lickitung were known to inhabit Cerulean Cave which was rumoured to contain an extremely powerful legendary Pokemon, one that would be far too powerful for me to capture. Hitmonlee were commonly found training on Victory Road right before the Pokemon League. Finally Exeggcute were commonly found at Route 23. Based on my current location I was closest to Route 23 so I decided to go and obtain Exeggcute first. Heading west from Viridian I reached Route 22 and followed the route to Route 23. Only skilled trainers were permitted through the route.

Certain certified trainers allowed trainers who have received certain amounts of badges to pass and I had received them all meaning I was permitted to head straight to the end. Before getting to the end I'd found the Pokemon I had been searching for. An Exeggcute was hobbling around scrambling through the grass avoiding the much larger Pokemon which swarmed the area. "Come out Persian!" Persian appeared leaping into the grass pursuing the Exeggcute which attempted to use Extrasensory but Persian dodged by leaping over Exeggcute and retaliating with a Slash.

The difference in power was much to great and Exeggcute had been weakened enough for me to throw a Pokeball. One shake, two, three and Exeggcute had been captured. "Exeggcute has been registered to your Pokedex. Exeggcute the Egg Pokemon a Grass and Psychic Type. Its six eggs converse using telepathy. They can quickly gather if they become separated." I released Exeggcute and quickly healed him before thanking Persian for his help as well. Exeggcute quickly realised what had happened and didn't seem to disappointed at having been captured.

Exeggcute was a curious Pokemon, in both appearance and personality. Exeggcute showed me he was a curious Pokemon, but also rather shy. when one of the eggs gets lost Exeggcute immediately gathered around me for comfort as a way of attempting to integrate me as an Exeggcute. In battles however Exeggcute showed me he was determined but also rather nervous. Upon being introduced to my other Pokemon, he knew he was far weaker than they were.

With training however that changed since, Exeggcute was not nearly as weak as he had assumed. I had a Leaf Stone and decided to ask whether Exeggcute would like to evolve. Exeggcute used Psychic to grab the Leaf Stone from my hand and together they made the unanimous decision to touch the Leaf Stone. As such, Exeggcute began glowing signalling an evolution.

"Exeggutor has been registered to your Pokedex. Exeggcutor the Coconut Pokemon, a Grass and Psychic Type. It is called the Walking Jungle. If a head grows too big, it falls of and becomes an Exeggcute." Hearing that made me realise how the cycle of Exeggutor and Exeggcute continued on without breeding. Exeggutor now appeared as a wise if not slower Pokemon. Exeggutor got along rather well with Venusaur and Alakazam respectively. Venusaur and Alakazam in their own rights were quite intelligent.

Still since I had now registered Exeggcute and Exeggutor to my Pokedex, I continued north and decided to go after a Hitmonlee. When I entered Victory Road I shuddered feeling a sensation of extreme power flowing through the very cave. It made sense though, Victory Road was filled with some of the toughest trainers around after all they were seeking the title of champion of Kanto more than likely.

One day perhaps I might be interested in acquiring the title of champion but now my main aim was to find and capture a Hitmonlee, but that didn't mean I wasn't interested in accepting battles from some of the strongest trainers around. As such when I was challenged by a ace trainer I eagerly accepted. They're first Pokemon was a Kangaskhan and I sent out my Machamp to use a super effective Close Combat and defeat the Normal Type. The second Pokemon sent out was a Venusaur and I substituted for my Charizard having him unleash a super effective Flamethrower finishing Venusaur off.

Moving on I was challenged by a second ace trainer who challenged me with a Rapidash and I sent out my Blastosie having him unleash a Hydro Pump defeating Rapidash. This was followed by a Victreebel and I substituted for my Ninetales having him unleash Flamethrower defeating Victreebel. The final Pokemon sent out was a Starmie and I substituted for my Raichu having him use Thunderbolt winning the battle.

A coach trainer then challenged me with a Ditto and I knew I needed to pick wisely against a Ditto since it would become my Pokemon and have the same moves but not the same power. In the end I chose Gengar and the Ditto also transformed into Gengar. However, my Gengar proved to be superior and used Shadow Ball defeating the Ditto.

A juggler was next to challenge me and sent out a Hypno and I sent out my Butterfree having him use a super effective Bug Buzz defeating Hypno. The second Pokemon sent out was a Slowbro and I substituted for my Electrode having him use Thunderbolt defeating Slowbro. Next a black belt challenged me with a Hitmonlee and I sent out my Pidgeot having him use Aerial Ace to swoop over and defeat Hitmonlee. The next Pokemon sent out was a Poliwrath and I sent out my Bellossom having him use Energy Ball defeating Poliwrath.

A Tamer then challenged me with a Primeape and I sent out my Fearow having him do the exact same thing Fearow had done previously, using a Drill Peck he swooped on over and defeated Primeape. The second Pokemon sent out was a Tauros and I substituted for my Primeape and having him use Close Combat defeating Tauros. Another Juggler then challenged me with a Mr. Mime and I sent out my Beedrill. I had Beedrill use Poison Jab defeating Mr. Mime. The juggler then sent out a Alakazam and I substituted for my Parasect.

I had to admit Parasect hadn't had that much battling but that was about to change. I had Parasect use X-Scissor and defeat Alakazam. An ace trainer then challenged me with a Scyther and I decided to send out my Scyther too. Both Scyther glared at one another, but there was a difference that only a seasoned trainer may notice. My Scyther looked bigger and stronger and seemed more intimidating. However the opposing Scyther wasn't one to give in either.

My Scyther pulled through and won the battle with an Aerial Ace which was super effective against his fellow Bug Type. The second Pokemon sent out was a Marowak and I substituted for my Vaporeon having Vaporeon use Hydro Pump defeating Marowak. The next trainer was an ace trainer who sent out a Dragonair and I sent out Jynx. A single Ice Beam was enough to deal with Dragonair. Hitmonchan was next and I substituted for my Sylveon who used Dazzling Gleam defeated Hitmonchan. The final Pokemon sent out was a Wigglytuff and I substituted for my Weezing having him use Sludge Bomb winning the battle.

A ace trainer then challenged me with a Electrode and I sent out my Sandslash having him use Bulldoze defeating Electrode. The next Pokemon sent out was a Kingler and I substituted for my Jolteon having him use Thunderbolt defeating Kingler. The next Pokemon sent out was a Rhydon and I substituted for my Vileplume having him use Energy Ball defeating Rhydon. The final Pokemon sent out was a Pidgeot and I substituted for my Lapras having him use Ice Beam knocking Pidgeot out.

The next ace trainer sent out a Jynx and I sent out my Magmar having him use Flamethrower defeating Jynx. The next Pokemon sent out was a Golbat and I sent out my Alakazam and a single Psychic was enough to defeat Golbat. The final Pokemon sent out was a Arcanine and I substituted for my Kingler having him use Razor Shell defeating Arcanine.

The next trainer was a Pokemaniac who sent out a Lickitung and I sent out my Kangaskhan who used Hammer Arm defeating Lickitung. The next Pokemon sent out was a Onix and I sent out my Golem having him use Earthquake to defeat Onix. The final Pokemon sent out was a Blastoise and I substituted for my Victreebel who used Power Whip defeating Blastoise.

A coach trainer then challenged me and sent out a Primeape, I sent out my Hypno and had him use Psychic defeating Primeape. The second Pokemon sent out was a Gyarados and I substituted for my Raichu having him use Thunderbolt defeating Gyarados. The third Pokemon sent out was a Arcanine and I substituted for my Onix having him use Stone Edge defeating Arcanine. The final Pokemon sent out was a Tauros and I substituted to my own Tauros. The battle was fierce between the two Bull Pokemon but my Tauros powered through and with a Take Down defeated the opposing Tauros.

Exploring further in Victory Road I followed some obscure torches because I had started to hear the sounds of boulders being crushed and the sounds of something punching and kicking. Too me it sounded very familiar to when my Hitmonchan had been training. Acting on the hunch that the Pokemon could very well be a Hitmonlee I followed the sound through the dark and dreary cave.

The occasional Zubat or Golbat did try and attack me but they were scared away whenever I brought out my Electric Types which warned the bats not to approach less they receive a powerful electric shock. Eventually the sounds of boulders being destroyed was so loud I knew I was close. Turning the corner I was happy to see there was a Hitmonchan shattering boulders with its feet. I assumed it must have been training.

I wasn't as quiet or sneaky as I had assumed I was. Something must have caught the attention of the Hitmonlee and it turned to face my direction. Hitmonlee didn't runaway no the Hitmonlee faced me determination clearly evident on his face. This Hitmonlee desired to get stronger and by training where the strongest train he believed he could be stronger than any other.

Hitmonlee also could feel the sensation of strength exuding the trainer facing him. It made Hitmonlee feel all giddy inside though he would never admit to feeling that sensation to anybody. Hitmonlee then gestured for me to choose a Pokemon to fight with as he stretched and prepared for combat. Knowing this could be a risky move, I wanted to send out one of the counterparts of Hitmonlee and that was Hitmonchan.

"Hitmonchan I need your help!" Hitmonchan appeared punching his gloves together before he realised who he was facing. Hitmonchan and Hitmonlee briefly approached one another and introduced themselves before Hitmonchan returned to my side and prepared himself to catch this Hitmonlee for his beloved trainer. "Hitmonchan Thunder Punch!" Hitmonchan made the first move, his fist powered with electricity he went to strike Hitmonlee but Hitmonlee effortlessly dodged and countered by kicking Hitmonchan's chest.

The blow forced Hitmonchan back but he shrugged the move off grinning at the power this Hitmonlee held. "Hitmonchan use Bulk Up!" I recently taught Hitmonchan Bulk Up as a way of increasing his offense and defence in one move. Hitmonchan's muscles increased in size and he prepared himself while Hitmonlee decided to take action. Hitmonlee attacked with Close Combat.

"Dodge that Hitmonchan, when there's an opening use your Close Combat!" The two Fighting Types began sparring with one another, trading blows with their kicks and fists respectively. Hitmonlee was faster than he appeared but still Hitmonchan managed to dodge the kicks like an expert boxer would. Just as Hitmonlee was about to kick Hitmonchan right on the head, Hitmonchan ducked dodging the kick.

Hitmonlee was surprised and was now wide open as such Hitmonchan took his chance and landed a powerful Close Combat which forced Hitmonlee to fall on the ground exhausted from the traded blows. Hitmonlee grinned at Hitmonchan who grinned back understanding the silent message before Hitmonchan turned to face his trainer. Hitmonchan gestured for his trainer to throw a Pokeball and capture his new friend and rival.

I did as Hitmonchan wished and threw a Pokeball at the happy Hitmonlee and watched as the ball shook once, twice, three times before the capture was confirmed. "Hitmonlee has been registered to your Pokedex. Hitmonlee the Kicking Pokemon a Fighting Type. Its legs can stretch to double their length. First-time foes are startled by Hitmonlee's extensible reach."

I released Hitmonlee and gave him a Potion restoring his strength and he thanked me in a surprising way. Using his legs Hitmonlee hugged me with my Hitmonchan giving me his own hug with his hands. It was getting a little too tight though and they eventually released me. While I headed back through Victory Road to return to Route 23 I was surprised that Hitmonchan and Hitmonlee were getting along so well. The two Fighting Types helped push boulders out of my way, carry me over dangerous terrain and fought wild Pokemon out of my way as well. In their own time though, Hitmonchan and Hitmonlee sparred together testing their skills.

When I managed to return to Viridian City, I called out my Dragonite and asked whether he could fly me over to Cerulean City, which would be our last stop before I would have caught almost every Pokemon from Kanto. Dragonite was happy to oblige and carried me all the way to Cerulean City. When he landed he wasn't even exhausted but I thanked him nonetheless.

A small river by the Nugget Bridge allowed me to send out my Dewgong and have him ferry me across the small river until we reached a cave. This cave was known as Cerulean Cave. The rumours stated a powerful legendary Pokemon lived here that hated humans. I knew I wasn't strong enough to catch that legendary and was only here for a different Pokemon entirely.

Upon entering I began exploring, searching for Lickitung and was surprised how quickly I found one, seems they were quite common in the cave compared to anywhere else. "Exeggutor I need your help!" Exeggutor appeared battle ready and focused on what he needs to do. The Lickitung was curious as to what was happening but remained cautious. "Exeggutor Hypnosis!" Exeggutor used Hypnosis which lulled Lickitung to sleep.

Taking the opportunity I threw a Pokeball and watched as it shook once, twice, three times before the capture was confirmed. "Lickitung has been registered to your Pokedex. Lickitung the Licking Pokemon a Normal Type. Instead of hands, it uses its tongue, which can stretch to twice this Pokemon's height. Lickitung's sticky saliva can stick to anything."

This was something I got the pleasure of experiencing when Lickitung licked my face and the saliva truly stayed everywhere until I had Blastoise lightly spray me with a weak Hydro Pump. Still Lickitung seemed to be happy and when I checked his moves, I was surprised to find that he already knew the move Rollout which meant he could evolve straight away.

A few battles together to test our bond and Lickitung began glowing signalling his new evolution. "Lickilicky has been registered to your Pokedex. Lickilicky the Licking Pokemon a Normal Type. It wraps things with its extensible tongue. Getting too close to it will leave you soaked with drool." Lickilicky was happy and brought me in for a hug with his tongue keeping me close while he jumped up and down in his excitement. I was happy for him as well and knew that I had finally caught the majority of Kanto Pokemon. That called for a day of celebration and relaxation for everyone.
