#15 of Pokemon - To Catch Them All

Leo explores Route 21 and the Power Plant by Route 10

After defeating Blaine the Cinnabar Island Gym leader I had received my seventh Gym badge. That meant there was only one more gym that I needed to defeat in the Kanto region. That was the one back in my home city Viridian. However, I didn't actually know who the gym leader was. I'd heard in the past the gym was actually run by a criminal organisation, that being Team Rocket. Now however, they must have found a replacement gym leader. Still, earning the gym badges was secondary to completing the Pokedex. As of now I already had registered a total of 139 Pokemon registered to my Pokedex, but there are still so many more to catch.

Since I'd done everything I wanted to on Cinnabar Island I decided to head north on Route 21 and see if there was anything new for me to catch on my way back to Pallet Town. Similarly once that was done I'd also like to explore the Power Plant and catch some Electric Types as well. "Come out Gyarados!" Gyarados appeared enjoying the sensation of the open waves and automatically knew what I was going to request of him. Turns out Gyarados didn't even give me a chance to ask grabbing me gently in his mouth and depositing me on his back.

At that Gyarados began ferrying me across Route 21 and seeing what the route had to offer. A swimmer was the first trainer to challenge me. His first only Pokemon was a Slowbro and I sent out my Dragonair for his first real battle against a trainer. Dragonair didn't disappoint showing overwhelming power against his opponent. Defeating Slowbro with a Dragon Rush.

Another swimmer then challenged me with a Starmie and I sent out my Tentacruel for a challenge. Starmie was a Psychic Type and was super effective against Tentacruel, but thanks to my training. Tentacruel had increased endurance and managed to defeat Starmie with a few well placed Poison Jabs. The second Pokemon sent out was a Kingler and I substituted for my Poliwrath having him use Dynamic Punch which successfully landed and knocked out Kingler.

On a small island a Fisherman challenged me with a Tentacruel and I sent out my Starmie having it use Psychic kncoking Tentacruel out with a super effective hit. The second Pokemon sent out was a Starmie. I decided to continue battling and had Starmie use Shadow Ball a newly learned move to deal with other Psychic Types. A Sailor then challenged me with a Primeape and I sent out my Pidgeot having him use a Aerial Ace to knock out Primeape. The second Pokemon sent out was a Machoke and I substituted once more for my Fearow who used Drill Peck to defeat Machoke.

Back on the ocean waves, I was challenged by another Swimmer who first sent out a Tentacool which my Slowbro handled well with a powerful Psychic. This was followed by a Golduck and I substituted for my Blastoise who powered through with Skull Bash defeating Golduck. The final Pokemon sent out was a Tentacruel and I sent my Slowbro back in and used another Psychic defeating Tentacruel.

Another Swimmer challenged me with a Seel and I sent out my Weezing who battled well from the air, thanks to his ability Levitate. Using Sludge Bomb he defeated Seel. This was followed by a Seadra and I substituted for my Dragonair who used a Dragon Rush defeating the Seadra.

On a small island a Roughneck challenged me with a Raticate and I sent out my Hitmonchan having him use a Close Combat defeating Raticate. This was followed by a Onix and I substituted for my Bellossom having him use Petal Dance defeating Onix. Further up a coach trainer challenged me to a battle with a Machoke and I sent out my Farfetch'd whose Air Slash defeated Machoke. This was followed by a Jynx and I substituted for my Ninetales having him use Flamethrower to defeat Jynx. The final Pokemon was a Kangaskhan and I substituted once more for my Machamp having him use Brick Break knocking Kangaskhan out.

Next up was a fisherman who challenged me with a Seadra and I sent out my Vileplume who used Petal Dance to knock Seadra out. The second Pokemon sent out was a Gyarados and I substituted for my Raichu who used Thunderbolt defeating Gyarados. A second fisherman then challenged me with a full team of Magikarp. The battle was over relatively quickly with just my Jolteon.

I'd almost reached Pallet Town, but right before I got there, I spotted a patch of grass and decided to explore and see if there were any new Pokemon around. Almost immediately I struck gold when I came across a Tangela. "I need your help Flareon." Flareon appeared breathing small embers directly at Tangela who glared in annoyance. "Flareon Flamethrower!" Perhaps that was too much to endure, the Tangela was down quickly and I threw a Pokeball. I watched as the ball shook once, twice, three times before the capture was confirmed.

"Tangela has been registered to your Pokedex. Tangela the Vine Pokemon a Grass Type. It is shrouded by blue vines. No one has seen the face hidden behind the growth of these vines." I brought Tangela out and gave him a potion to help recover his strength and quickly learned he had no animosity towards me for his capture which was good. I was surprised however to learn that he already knew the move Ancient Power.

Tangela needed to learn Ancient Power in order to evolve into a Tangrowth so after a few battles against the wild Pokemon, Tangela already began evolving. "Tangrowth has been registered to your Pokedex. Tangrowth the Vine Pokemon a Grass Type. It ensnares prey by extending arms made of vines. Losing arms to predators does not trouble it." Tangrowth embraced me in a powerful yet slightly uncomfortable hug with all the vines enshrouding me but I didn't mind it at all.

I returned Tangrowth to his Pokeball and headed north and was happy to see I'd returned to pallet town, home of Professor Oak and his laboratory in one. Since I hadn't completed my Pokedex yet, I didn't need to see the Professor but I did have another location I wanted to visit and it was the Power Plant to get there I needed to return to Route 10.

I got my Crobat to fly me back to Route 10 and then arrived at the small river that was previously inaccessible to me. Further I brought my Kingler out and asked if he wouldn't mind ferrying me across the small river and he didn't mind at all. A short swim later and Kingler deposited me back on dry land where I was automatically challenged to a battle by a Pokemaniac who sent out a Rhyhorn and I sent out my Rhydon who used Earthquake defeating his prior form. The second Pokemon sent out was a Lickitung and I substituted for my Kangaskhan whose Brick Break defeated Lickitung.

Upon stepping inside the Power Plant I was beset by a Voltorb a Pokemon that looked just like a Pokeball. "I need your help Nidoqueen!" Nidoqueen appeared roaring at the Voltorb who didn't appear fazed. "Nidoqueen use Sludge Bomb!" Nidoqueen used Sludge Bomb and scored a direct hit against Voltorb who began rolling around uncontrollably. At first I wasn't sure whether the Pokemon had been weakened enough but at Nidoqueen's gentle prodding I decided to throw a Pokeball at the erratic Voltorb.

One shake, two and three and the Voltorb was captured. "Voltorb has been registered to your Pokedex. Voltorb the Ball Pokemon a Electric Type Pokemon. It looks just like a Poke ball. It is dangerous because it may electrocute or explode upon touch." I released Voltorb and healed it using a Potion and was surprised at how childish the Pokemon acted. It was almost as though the Voltorb preferred playing around in games of tag not that I minded. Voltorb liked to have raced with Jolteon but usually Jolteon would win those races. Perhaps the result would be different once Voltorb evolved.

Continuing through the Power Plant, my next opportunity arose as a Electabuzz appeared swimming its arms around electricity dancing across it in a threatening posture. The Electabuzz then put its arms out and made a challenging gesture wanting to have a tough battle and who was I to deny it. "Come out Nidoking!" Nidoking appeared thumbing his fists against his chest in his own threat posture which was accepted eagerly by the grinning Electabuzz.

"Nidoking use Earth Power!" Nidoking slammed one fist into the ground and a small fissure headed right towards Electabuzz who jumped and avoided the attack before going on the offensive. Electabuzz then fired back with a loud and powerful Screech causing more pain to me rather than Nidoking who turned and saw me clutching my ears in pain. Nidoking felt a strange anger swirling up inside as he glared at the Electabuzz. "Nodoking use Poison Jab!" Nidoking using the anger as a source charged forward and landed a powerful Poison Jab on Electabuzz who was flung backward landing painfully down on the ground.

Electabuzz slowly stood back up but was breathing heavily not just because of the damage that had been taken but because there was a purple hue around its face showing it had been poisoned. Electabuzz tried to continue battling but slumped down in exhaustion but grinned happily at the good battle. I took the opportunity and threw a Pokeball and watched as it shook once, twice, three times before the capture was confirmed.

"Electabuzz has been registered to your Pokedex. Electabuzz the Electric Pokemon a Electric Type. Half of all blackouts occur when this Pokemon appears at Power Plans and eats electricity." That explained why Electabuzz and probably why electric Pokemon in general were found commonly in Power Plants, simply because this was a food source for them.

I released Electabuzz and grabbed an antidote and gently fed Electabuzz the antidote followed by administering a Potion to to help Electabuzz recover some strength from such a tough battle. I congratulated Electabuzz on such a tough battle as did Nidoking and the two Pokemon chatted with one another about the battle they had. Electabuzz then hugged me apologising for something, that I presumed was using such a painful screech on his trainer but I didn't mind.

Continuing further I was challenged by a Coach Trainer who sent out a Omastar and I sent out my Victreebel who used a single Power Whip to defeat Omastar. Next up was a Kabutops which was also defeated the same way. The final Pokemon sent out was an Aerodactyl and I sent out my Jynx having her uce an Ice Beam to defeat Aerodactyl.

After defeating the Coach Trainer I explored further around the Plant and came across a Magnemite and decided to catch it. "Come out Sandslash!" Sandslash appeared swiping his claws as the Magnemite stared interested at the human challenging it. "Sandslash use Bulldoze!" Even though the Magnemite was floating in the air, it wasn't immune to the damage from Bulldoze and its type wasn't helpful at taking the damage either.

I threw a Pokeball and watched as it shook once, twice, three times before the capture was confirmed. "Magnemite has been registered to your Pokedex. Magnemite the Magnet Pokemon an Electric and Steel Type Pokemon. The units at its sides generate electromagnetic waves that keep it airborne. It feeds on electricity." This was much like the other electric Pokemon found at the Power Plant. I quickly healed up Magnemite and continued on my journey exploring the Power Plant in its entirety.

Looking at my Rotom Phone I had found that I had captured every Pokemon available at the Power Plant minus one that was the evolution of Magnemite which could be found here regularly. I eventually reached the centre and was surprised at the amount of electric Pokemon that had gathered here, were they waiting for something? I wasn't too sure but I continued looking around, seeing the cautious looks of the Pokemon gathered around. At the centre there was a feather which looked to be dancing with electricity and was coloured yellow.

My mind went back to what I had saw back at the Seafoam Islands, where I had seen a blue icy feather which almost looked like Articuno and that was in an ice environment. Meanwhile this feather clearly represented to me Zapdos, the electric member of the birds of Kanto. Still I knew I wasn't prepared to catch a legendary Pokemon anytime soon and so I took a picture of the feather and returned it.

At that I left the Power Plant and decided to return to Viridian City to have a battle with the gym leader and to also pay my mother a visit. After that I'd catch every Pokemon from Kanto and move onwards to the next region if all went according to plan.
