#31 of Hurricane Kim

It has been hundreds of years since the events of Zero Day as the society of Earth struggles between the warring factions of a global conflict. On one side; Humans and Children of the Egg cooperating to achieve the impossible goals demanded of them. On the other; Humans determined to keep control in human hands even if it means the destruction of all.

Just a little snippet that was kicking around on my hard drive that I'd decided to release after taking so very long to come up with an update for y'all. I hope you enjoy.

Teresa shook her head to test the fit of her carbon-ceramic helmet and the command interface over her right eye. Satisfied that all was in order, she lifted her gaze to eye the city that cannon and missile fire continued to discharge in all directions out into the surrounding forest. The leader betrayed her calm demeanor when a flash of dark flesh flickered from her mouth to wet her nose. Relishing in the rich aroma of the moist Earth she stood upon and the piney tang of the trees she had lurched her head above to risk a quick peek over their crowns at her objective.

"Are you ready?" she twisted her head down to ask the liaison, Elena, after processing the scent and feel of her force's emotional states. The middle-aged Slovenian woman, wearing her combat armor of ceramic plates and toting a backpack full of radios, stood meters below the height of her commander's shoulders as only a diminutive fraction of the Lithuanian dragon's size.

Speaking into her shoulder microphone, the answer came swiftly enough. "The division awaits your signal."

Elena ducked back into the command burrow as the towering Teresa spun on her legs to roar at the phalanx arrayed behind her restlessly flapping their wings. Responding to the matriarch's roar of attention by rising onto their hind legs to join her above the tree line. Helmets with holographic displays covering the black scaled heads peering back at her. Some of her squad mates with small rivulets of tears running from emotion laden eyes that burned with longing to set their claws down in the place of their birth once again and reclaim the children, and eggs, that had been stolen from them.

Are you ready to take back your children?

The bellowed reply deafened the thousands of humans trying to give their own battle cry while perched upon the backs of the officers of the 1st division of the 2nd United Corps. All giving their signal that they awaited the battle ahead against the invading Mid Eurasian Bloc.

Arcs of white smoke trailing rocket and missile launches swept into the sky that were answered by shimmering heat mirages of invisible and deadly energy crisscrossing above the city as the first wave of Children of the Egg flung themselves into the air. Flares and bursting clouds of chaff erupting throughout the heavens in a jubilant display that was incongruous to the lethal activity at hand.

A second wave of heavily armored dragons, without a single human aboard, thundered on four legs out of the shelter of the forests surrounding Vilnius towards the city's perimeter. Kicking up dust and the scent of their resolve with each resounding fall of their galloping hands and feet. Their heads stretched out with their yearning and the shrieking squeaks of their coordinating cries. General Teresa Adomaitis leading the way as the Great Mother used her incredible gift to confuse and weaken the minds who had chosen invasion instead of peace.

The First Baltic Intervention had begun.
