The main author blurb is at the end because it might ruin the idea of the short short story if I put it our front. Well enjoy (it's really short).

I collapsed down into the leather chair in the antique store when I felt it, although I suppose that couldn't feel might be a better way to explain it. The cracked and worn seat let out a hiss as I collapsed onto, my weight pushing the air out from remaining padding. I held my breath so that I could listen in absolute silence, nothing. I could feel the panic begin to rise, good I thought, that will make it louder make it easier to find. I perked up my ears desperately searching for the sound still nothing but the gentle din of the traffic outside. With fear rising even further I raised my paw and placed in on my carotid artery. Surely I would feel it? Surely I would feel something? Nothing. I pressed harder into the silver fur on my neck searching for any sign of that steady rhythm no matter how faint.

I couldn't feel it, I found myself wondering what it could mean when I heard the piercing shriek of the bell alerting me to the opening door, but wait that wasn't all I could hear. It was faint but I could hear it that gentle lub-dub almost hidden by the rumbling engines outside. The steady rhythm kept growing louder as the unseen being wound through the ancient and dusty trinkets. That beating was loud enough now that I was sure of it, but I didn't understand. I could hear it growing louder and louder, as the tension and panic rose up in my throat the beating picked up its pace.

The sound had become so loud that I knew I would see its source any second. I braced myself as I saw a shadow peek around the final bend acting like a black harbinger when finally I saw him as he turned the corner.

"Hey wolfie what's up?" enquired the wolf that had come around that final bend. I could only stare with bewilderment. I recognized that smooth black and red coat but I didn't understand.

"Not much just sitting around doing nothing" I replied trying to keep trembling fear and confusion out of my voice. I could tell by the look of concern that moved onto my mates face that I had failed. Slowly and deliberately he crossed the room and gently sat down in my lap. I could hear that beating quicken its pace once again only this time with excitement not fear.

"Is something wrong?" asked the wolf as he placed a gentle kiss on my lips. The beating quickened ever more I began to fear that it would burst.

"No, nothing's wrong" I said "I love you"

"Well I am glad that nothing's wrong and I love you too," said the wolf. Finally I understood why I couldn't feel it in my chest any longer; my heart was no longer mine for it belonged entirely to my mate.

Basically this is just something random that popped into my head while I was thinking about my amazing mate (who I absolutely love in the event that you read this). I have no plans on continuing anything from this, it was just a sort of idea that I thought was kind of cool.
