Donovan had agreed to the terms that Aleksander had set. And in return Aleksander had insisted he stay with us for the evening and all day following that night. He intended to be around us twenty-four-seven until our visitor had been and left. Maximillian had offered us more lions to watch over the penthouse while the council were in town, and Donovan had accepted. So Aleksander rode back with us. Eddie drove us and hung around as one of our lions. His lions took Donovan and Aleksander back in another car, while Kane and I rode with Eddie. When we arrived home, Eddie distributed the lions around the ground floor of the building. He'd stay with our other lions in the home we knew and loved. Something told me Eddie was abusing his power when he decided he'd stay in the warm penthouse, while his lions watched over the ground floor in case someone entered without our knowledge. So we all crammed into the elevator. Donovan, me, Kane, Eddie and Aleksander.

The doors opened wide with a dull hiss of metal sliding aside. Donovan took me by hand and stepped inside, the first corridor lead to the lounge area. Eddie strolled passed us and collapsed into a cushioned seat. Aleksander soon followed suit and strolled deeper into the lounge, standing at the window, overlooking the blackened skies of LA and the scattered lights below. His tail swished in a pleasant swoop, while he touched a hand to the cool pane. He'd been quiet since we'd left Maximillian's place. I wondered why. Snow padded from the direction of the bedrooms. He was dressed in a pair of pale blue pyjama bottoms and a white tank top, blood spattered the tank in dark spots. He looked at me and saw the amazement on my face as the blood spattered across his chest.

"W-What happened? Are you a-alright?" I stammered.

Snow smiled warm and peaceful, as he said, "I'm fine, but Noah came home earlier in the evening, covered in blood."

Donovan let go of my hand and walked forward. He replied, "Noah's wounded?"

"One of your wolves?" Aleksander asked.

"Indeed. Our newest unique member. He's human and werewolf. He's been legally diagnosed for three months, but has yet to transform."

"Is the pup alright?" Aleksander went on with a curious glint in his green-grass eyes.

"He's fine, I think he had some trouble off his old man or brother or some distant family member. He went to the DVD store for a movie to watch and ran into them. From what I know, they got into a brawl."

"Is he alright?" I asked.

"He's healed, but the damage on his body is what worries me," Snow replied, "He came running in and showered right away, I went to see if he was alright and found him huddled on the floor, bloodied."

"Donovan?" I said his name like a word of caution.

"No problem. Make Aleksander feel at home while I go see if he's fine." Donovan smiled at me and then disappeared down the corridor. Snow considered me and Aleksander for a second and then followed.

"Your house is indeed in distress. A new wolf getting attacked?" Aleksander rested his shoulders against the window pane and smiled sadly.

"Looks like your not the only one with wounded in his house tonight," Kane said as he strolled across the lounge and headed for his bedroom.

"Your going to bed?" I called after him.

"I need a shower and a change of clothes," he called back. He looked back and grinned, "Plus I'm too armed, considering we're back home."

I shrugged and smirked. "Fair enough."

Kane disappeared down the same corridor Donovan and Snow had. I was alone with Eddie and Aleksander now.

Eddie stood up in a liquid movement and started moving across the lounge. "Where are you going?" I asked.

He smirked and replied, "Your awful nosy tonight. I'm gonna go check on the other lions watching over this place."

I shrugged again and walked to the couch. I watched Eddie disappear and then faced the newest housemate we had. "Do you need me to show you where your sleeping?" I asked.

He pushed away from the window pane and replied, "Why show me? I'll just follow you to bed when your tired."

I considered Aleksander for a moment and then frowned, a look that clearly said no.

Aleksander shrugged, a gentle rise and fall of those slender shoulders. "Can't blame a kitten for trying."

"You consider yourself a kitten? Not much of a title for a King, is it?"

"Nicknames in the bedroom don't really effect the way a King rules."

"I wouldn't know what those nicknames are, Alek. And I don't intend to."

"I've not had to try and woo someone into bed for quite some time, Eben, you must forgive the bad chat up lines." He strolled around the coffee table and eased back into the couch beside me. He never made to touch me, but the beast inside me was up now, no longer slumped asleep in the shadows, but standing and pacing, those pale white-blue eyes focused on the cheetah before her. The desire was there, but I had enough alphas and Kings to keep her sated. This would be a desire, not a need. He cast his arms across the back of the couch, while his tail draped over the couch beside him, his one knee drawn up to his chest as he looked over at me.

"So that was Snow, eh?" he asked.

I nodded.

"Considering he's calm and relaxed, I could sense his beast in the elevator."

"Donovan tells me his a powerhouse where wereanimal strength is concerned, and I've seen him in action. He knows how to handle himself."

"I can understand why you bound yourself to him."

"I didn't bind myself intentionally. Our first meeting sort of surrounded the binding."

"Did you know him back then?"

I shook my head.

"Then how come you seem so natural around him, and at peace with the fact your bound together? I thought you bound for love?"

"Snow is a strange one, our first meet was when he was feral, a ravenous monster. We fought and when we touched our beasts synched completely. I changed and he changed too."

"One touch and that was all it took?" he replied.

I nodded. "He regained his composure, but his memories are lost to him."

"His memories?"

"He has amnesia. The only thing he knows about himself right now is his name and the fact he knows how to box."

"All the essential information that an alpha would need then?" Aleksander replied with a smile.

"I suppose so." I eased back into the seat beside the cheetah. "I've been told his memories will return in time."

"Your being awful revealing about all this information. You barely know me?"

"True. But if we're going to work alongside one another, then you'll need to know these things."

He considered me for a moment and then smiled. "I suppose so."

I looked back at the cheetah and said, "Is there anything we should know about you?"

"Nothing that won't seem natural for a cheetah. I'm quick, I'm ruthless when its needed, and I look out for the ones I love."

"Fair enough."

"Are you nervous?"

"Nervous about what?" I asked.

"About tomorrow's visitor?" he replied.

"You mean the council?" I considered the question and realised I was nervous. I didn't lie and replied, "I am nervous. Nervous about what might happen."

"And what do you think might happen?" he asked.

"Well I'm worried this guy might be like the last council member who visited us."

"You have nothing to worry about there."

"Oh really? How come?"

"I'm here this time." He grinned as he looked at me from inches away. I looked doubtful and he frowned, "You don't think I'm gonna be a good bodyguard?"

"I've never seen you in action."

"That could change?" he grinned.

I frowned at the innuendo. "I meant fighting, Alek."

He grinned wider and then said, "But jokes aside, you have my word as King of the cheetah clan. I'll do my best tomorrow."

"I know you will, Aleksander. I have no doubt in your word," I leaned forward, elbows rested upon my knees as I gazed across the room out of the windows.

He leaned forward and asked, "I can feel a but coming?"

"I have no doubt in your word as King, but this is supposed to be the oldest and wisest of them. I've met one of their youngest and he was powerful."

He considered what I'd said, a serious look crossed those beautiful eyes. "True, but your considered a lethal weapon now, according to them."

"You think so?" I asked. From what I knew, Donovan had not explained to Aleksander what had happened when I'd fought Sawyer. He had not told the cheetah of my transformation abilities.

"All I know is, a council member visited, there was a fight, and then he left for some reason after confronting you."

"So you just deducted that on your own?" I asked.

He nodded and said, "It doesn't take a genius to figure it out."

"No. I suppose not."

"So care to tell me what happened?" he asked.

"I don't know if I should be revealing that."

He grinned and leaned closer. "What happened to trusting allies?" he purred.

I smiled at my own words being cast back at me. "Fair enough. Alright then, I'll tell you what happened."

He smirked back and nudged me with his shoulder.

"I was facing one of the council, he was torturing Kane, the beast inside me took on a form using me as its body and I changed appearance. I had new powers too."

"Powers?"

"I froze the pool upstairs over like a cold Atlantic winter."

Aleksander looked at me. He was considering what I'd said. He then smiled and said, "Fine. Don't tell me the truth then."

I grinned and shrugged. If he didn't want to believe, then so be it. The beast inside me growled at his carefree nature and seemed to like how laid back and strong Aleksander was. His beast rose at the scent of mine. The beasts loomed over us, brushing against one another with their metaphorical sides. Testing one another. Scenting one another. His sleak, proud cheetah a bit taller than the white wolf that stood beside it. I was sat, eyes bright green and almost ethereal staring into mine. His eyes went heavy-lidded as his breath rushed over my lips in a warm wave. He was so close, and so beautiful too. "I can sense your beast, Eben. She's beautiful."

"I could say the same about your cheetah." He was so close, I could of licked across that bottom lip.

"Aleksander!" Donovan was standing across the lounge, eyes blank and his face looking solemn and almost bored, "I thought I'd show you where your sleeping. Eben, go to my room. I'll be there soon."

I looked over at my King and my beast turned, acknowledging him and abandoning all efforts surrounding the cheetah that had tried to woo her. "No problem," I said. I got up, and felt Aleksander's fingers brush over mine. He dropped his hand and stood slowly as I walked across the room to stand beside Donovan. He stopped me and leaned down, his lips brushed mine, a gentle caress of flesh. He looked down at me, those pale green eyes shimmered with heat. He wanted me. Did he want me because Aleksander wanted me? Was this a sign of dominance? Donovan was laying down the law in his own house. Makes sense, I suppose. I kissed him back one more time and then said goodnight to Aleksander. Perhaps having Aleksander come home with us was a bad idea? Donovan was in charge, and I was his Lupine. I'd have to follow his order. He was doing what was best for the rest of the pack. Regardless of how dwindling we were in numbers.
