The Lone Wolf

As I walk alone through the dense forest alone, I hear footsteps from a distance. I've been walking all morning in search of food but nothing yet. I see a rather small rabbit, looks like a baby. As hungry as I am, I think I will let this one go. But I need to find food fast or will starve. As I look harder and harder I still see nothing until I see a dead squirrel right below a large tree. I run for it so nobody else can get it before me. I get to the squirrel carcass and the coast looks clear, so I go to pick it up and out of nowhere I hear a loud bang and a sharp pain in my side. I fall to the ground. I feel cold and the pain is agonizing.

I sit alone for what seems like hours until I see a man covered in sticks and leaves. "That is a mighty fine wolf I hit" says the man. He must think he has killed me, but as he comes to pick me up I bite him right in his hand and he runs off with large bite marks in his hand and blood running out of the wound. He leaves his weapon and me lying on the ground. All I can do is wait and hope I survive.

It's been a day or so, I have lost track and my hunger returns. I have no idea how I will eat then I remember the dead squirrel. I inch my way over to it and the pain is fading ever so slightly. I nibble at the squirrel trying to hold myself back from eating it all, just in case it takes me a while to recover just enough to get out of here and get some help. I hurt so bad it is getting hard to keep my food down without throwing up, but I lose all control and all my food is now in front of me and the smell is awful.

It's been so long, I don't know when somebody will find me, or if they find me. As the hours go by I was just thinking of giving up all hope until I saw a large group of animals. A large group of wolves, it's my pack! They see me and they come to rescue me. I'm so glad I got help in time. They bring me back to cave where we all live, and then the leader of the pack had began to ask me questions.

"What happened?"

"I went off to go find some food, I was starving."

"But why would you go alone? Why didn't you have somebody come with you?"

"I don't know, I wasn't thinking about that at the time, I was focusing on trying to get some food"

"Clearly you weren't thinking" and then he left while my wound was being taken care of.

Now I am feeling much better, and it has been two months since I was injured. Today we all go hunting, but now we go more cautiously and we don't collect already dead animals. Just in case. We wander through the woods thinking of just going home and trying again tomorrow, and then we see in the distance a flock of geese. About 12 of them just waddling along the bank of the river. We then sneak up on them and we catch 8 of them, but the others flew away. Probably the smarter ones of the bunch. We all feast on our catch and eat until we are stuffed. for now on, we know not to wander these froests alone.
