#3 of Thunder!

Another turtle step in this little sketch. Had i realised i was actually going to enjoy writing it, I might've done bigger chapters. It's whatever, hope it's enjoyed at least. Thanks to all who're following along!

After a few minutes, the first crashings of thunder could be heard outside, lightning slashing its jagged path through the sky, leaving a bloody trail of yellow ooze and blue sparks, making the two of them jump a little bit, startling into each other's arms. The biggest jumper, however, was James. His ears pressed down into his head with fear and nerves, adrenaline shooting through his veins, grip tightening around Percy.

"F-fucking lightning," he growled out, looking around and seeming to calm down a tiny bit.

Percy grinned and nuzzled up to James' chest, looking relatively nonchalant. "Who's the mutt now, master? Looks like you're the one with the wild doggy genes, jumping all over the place at a little lightning."

"Ugh, it's not like you don't get nervous as well, dummy, I can feel you clutch up to me, clingy little bitch you are."

A scowl wrote itself over Percy's face as he heard that, and he let out a poofing huff, nipping James' fur with a gentle movement. "Maybe I just wanted to make sure you felt alright."

"Ah.." James sighed, eyes glazed over contentedly. "Maybe... just maybe. You know I feel alright, it's not too bad or close, anyways."

His talk, however, was just that. At the next booming smash of thunder, like a giant's footsteps on the Earth outside, he squeaked, curling up into a little ball around Percy, paws clinging tight into the fur there. Percy imagined he could almost feel the gentle pound of his lover's heart against his back and sides, though layers of silky, tufty fur made that fantasy impossible.

The calmer dog couldn't help but let out a small giggle, a caring, huskily presented noise that he pressed against James' ears to emit, trying his best to help calm the bernese. It worked a little bit, and they both curled up into each other's arms, though the larger dog still jerked with every clap of lightning in the distance.

They laid that way for a while, game forgotten, the pattering of rain fading and eventually dissipating until only Percy's soft snores could be heard in the room, the soothing synthwave of Minecraft's title screen lulling the two into a comforted sleep as the hours crept towards night. This was especially important to the two of them-- more so than any sex, any dates, no, curling up like this was the one sanctuary from everything and everyone. It was special.

James shifted and pulled Percy in, closer, letting the husky's head settle into its spot, the one between the bernese's chin and his neck. In his sleep, the husky let off a couple of slow, content wags, batting around the blanket that laid on top of them before settling down again. His paws were wrapped around James' sides, settled on the gentle rise of his chest, ears missing their wakeful awareness and allowed to droop to the side a bit.

His older lover had observed since the day they'd managed to scrounge up enough money to move in together how much more peaceful the husky looked when he was being held like this, how his body seemed to lose all the tension it carried throughout the day, maw pulling out of a perpetual frown to lay evenly, even curling up at the corners to let little sighs of air out. He was a bad drooler, too-- already a drippy puddle was forming on James' chest, though neither of them had ever really minded that.

As the night crept closer to the early hours of the morning, they both stretched a little bit, not quite awake but beginning to uncurl, groggy eyes opening slower than the moon crawled across the sky. The warmth itself was something that neither had ever wanted to leave-- especially under a blanket like that, the warmth from their fur and bodies seemed to build up until it was like laying right beside a fireplace, a big, fluffy one that breathed warm air into the spot right between your ears and made them wiggle a little bit at the slight, teasing tickle.

Even when they woke up, they'd normally stay in bed for a few hours on days like this, both pretending they were still deep in the dreamscape even though they'd catch little glimpses of the other peeking at them. It was a stupid, silly little game they'd picked up a while ago, but it was entertaining and sweet nonetheless-- they deserved it, too, didn't they? Two years of wondering whether they'd ever be able to feel anything like this with each other, two years of increasingly difficult commitment, but they were here now. That warranted at least a bit of puppylike stupidity.

Percy was the first to wake up completely, stretching out as far as he could, basking in the feeling of all his muscles tensing and lengthening, a surge of pleasure shooting down his brain and through his spine until he could feel tingling in the very tips of his fingers and toes. Impatient as he was, he cocked his head for a few minutes, trying to wait, before leaning forward and giving his master a kiss on the cheek, followed by a warm lick down the side of his muzzle, prompting a giggly swat and at least half-opened eyes-- mission accomplished for the husky, as evidenced by the quick wags of his tail.
