#6 of Detective Thursdays

Uki had the day off.

But as she sat in her apartment watching the news report on the nights events she felt ill. Tanu had been so insistent that she go do what she wanted for the day, that they weren't going to work on cases. It struck her as odd then but she agreed that a day off would be nice when they split up at the station. The duo had been on the clock everyday for eight hours or more for nearly a month. It still bothered her though now almost an hour later. She had heard quite a lot of gun fire inside the fence on pier 23.

Thinking about it Tanu was limping. Maybe he was...! Concerned she downed her peach tea and drove the car from her apartment across town to the hospital to check and make sure he hadn't checked himself in. The vixen at the counter said that no police officers had been checked in since she had come on shift. When was that? Oh, two hours ago now. Yeah good point let me check. Nope, no one with that description has come in today.

Both frustrated and relieved Uki thanked the vixen. Inwardly she wished she could carry an investigation room with her wherever she went. People just seemed to be difficult when it came to producing straight answers. Standing outside of the hospital under the overhang, waiting for them to bring the car back, Uki added valet parking to the list of things she would avoid going forward.

"Uki is that you?" a motherly voice said from behind her. Turning, her ears lifted at the German Shepard in the Bay City Uniform who was getting out of a assisted living van. A few others dressed in cadet uniforms followed her pushing empty wheelchairs.

Uki smiled. "Instructor Greene, still insistent that community outreach is part of an officers duty?"

The predominately black Shepard gave her a toothy grin. "Of course, else who would you think of while hunkered down in a car in the pouring rain watching a building that looks abandoned since last century?" The two women giggled and the cadets rolled their eyes.

"Oh how I miss the academy days. Life was so much easier than it is now." The she 'coon sighed

"I'm sure you have Tanu to thank for that change of pace. Speaking of, where is the Great Detective?"

Uki shurgged "Well, that is something of a minor mystery..."

"I'm sure one of my best students will figure it out." The Shepard winked. "Well the elderly don't pick themselves up." and began to walk away. "Oh! One lead would be the he and Jim were supposed to meet up for breakfast this morning. See you around Uki." she called over her shoulder

Just then the valet pulled up with her car. So he was just going out for breakfast, okay that's not so bad. Pulling away from the stale smell that always seemed to emanate from hospitals Uki felt a little better.
