Chapter Five

"Hype"

When we arrived at the hotel Sanic set up for us he was patiently waiting outside and he watched as dad had his head sticking out the window, his tongue flapping and his tail beating father as he tried to drive. Dad looked as if he was about to jump out of the car and run over to him.

"He jumps out and takes a few steps then falls on his face." Ben said as he and I were taking bets on whether he could do it.

"Nope, he jumps out and immediately licks the pavement." I replied.

"I bet he makes it and runs over to Sanic and as soon as he tries to stop running he trips." Father said. Dad stuck his head back in.

"Geez, have some faith in me." Dad complained.

"I know you can make it the whole way without falling." Lyon said to him and dad smiled as we all looked at Lyon skeptically.

"Kiss up," I replied then smiled and gave Lyon a little hug to show I wasn't serious. Father shook his head silently then pulled the car over. We exited the car feeling relieved because the only rental car they had was too cramped for all five of us. I could see why father had said 'no' to Dash coming because he'd be laying on our laps if we tried to fit him in.

I got out and looked around at all the ads and advertising around us. It definitely looked different than when we had first been prisoners here. There were numerous pictures of Bear as the spokesman of the Soda Coke mascot. There was a white beaver that we had a side glance of as it looked like he leaned against the wall wearing only a pair of boxer briefs as he advertised for Tom Hugger underwear.

90% of the ads were rare white furs being featured to sell the products. I never thought we'd see something like this but society was moving forward and the hatred that species like me once faced was lessening. There were still a few weirdos that kept screaming it was part of some plot to destroy civilization to accept us as anything other than a threat but most species ignored their tripe.

Even the conspiracy theorist Mackey Dice wrote a book called 'White Fragility' which described that accepting rare white fur species as equals was the sign of the end of society. Father had been watching him closely to see what kind of impact he was having on the public mindset.

"All they want is to be accepted as one of us," He mocked as he addressed his audience. "Now they are pushing an agenda that young cubs in school must bleach their fur 'white' in order to look like one of them." He said and my father sighed deeply a number of times as he spread his rhetoric of hatred against me and other rare white furs like myself. Still his voice was small compared to the thousands that understood the hatred spread from one old book was not enough of a reason to hate species that were different from themselves. It's not the color of anyone's fur that makes society bad, it's hating a species because of that fur color!

"Sanic, Sanic! It's me, Leggo." Dad said to Sanic as he was about to address us.

"Yes I know you buddy, and your whole family too!" He replied. "Welcome friends to..." Before he could finish dad picked him up and spun him around then hugged him. Sanic looked a little dizzy as he was placed back on the ground and father slapped dad's paw. Dad flinched from the blow but father was too busy greeting Sanic to notice.

"Thank you for the warm welcome. Forgive my husband but you know how he likes to act like a puppy." Father said.

"I trust your trip was uneventful?" Sanic asked keeping himself as dignified as possible and he turned smiling to everyone that passed by us.

"Tight," Lyon replied.

"Cramped," I replied.

"Tyger snortes," Ben said and I punched him on his arm.

"I do not!" I said then I saw Lyon and him look at each other knowingly. I grabbed Lyon by his ear and as he was crying out 'ow ow ow ow' I whispered to him.

"Something you wanna tell me, bro?"

"You act like father more and more every day," he grumbled and I flinched. I saw father looking at me with a smirk on his face. I felt myself blush from the humiliation and I tried thinking of ways to get points back since father smugly thought he earned some.

"Sanic, this place is amazing. Are you sure this is just a community? It looks more like a metropolis." I said and I gave my father a look back. To see his response.

"Let's hold off on our judgements until we'll had the full tour." Father replied and we turned facing each other as Sanic shrugged to the others.

"They've done an amazing job and deserve to be complimented." I said and my voice carried a little bit of an edge at him for correcting me.

"A wise species doesn't just jump to conclusions based on appearance." Father replied as he leaned in and we looked at each other eye to eye.

"What's up with them? Besides the usual." Sanic whispered to dad and the others.

"We're not sure exactly." Ben replied.

"They've been like that for days. It's some kind of contest but we have no clue what it's about." Lyon replied.

"Really? I haven't noticed any difference lately." Dad said as he scratched the back of his head in confusion. Lyon and Ben looked at him incredulously.

"I'm right and you're wrong!" I shouted at my father angrily.

"When you provide evidence of such!" Father counter and we once again had our faces pressed together.

"Let's get you to your rooms where you can both unwind after your long trip." Sanic said as he nervously looked around as several species were looking at us arguing.

Sanic clapped his paws and even though the sound was muted by his size several bellhops appeared and lined up on the sidewalk.

"Please see our guests to their rooms." Sanic instructed and one of them bowed then gestured for us to follow him. The other began to unload the car and I heard them gripe about their job.

"These are the VIPs?" One of the bellhops said. He was a normal colored lion and he was still young as his main was starting to fill out. Judging by its growth he was definitely older than my brother was.

"Did you see their car? They look like a couple of homeless ones." The second bellhop replied. He was a white fox and to look at him made me laugh that anyone had ever confused someone like him with my dad when he shaved his fur.

The inside was still in the process of being renovated but it was definitely in the process of turning from a regular hotel into a high class one. Expensive rugs were rolled up and stored as cheap store brand ones were laid out as construction was in the process to replace the old panels and add richer looking ones.

The front desk supervisor looked as if he was dressed in a thrift store suit. I could sense my father's emotions that he was not impressed but he said nothing. He was a Lemur and he bowed as he approached us.

"Greetings! I welcome you to the White Gold hotel," I cringed at the shameless promotion and knew my father was about to pop. Lyon and my dad entered next and they looked around in wonder at the interior.

"Look at this place!"

"This place is amazing!" Lyon and my dad remarked to themselves.

"We have our grand suites prepared for you, our most honored guests." He replied and he clapped his hands and the same bellboy that brought us inside casually walked over. The supervisor wrenched a smile them whispered to his employee.

"Cut the shit and take them to their rooms, now!" he said then smiled back at us. I took a step and suddenly realized that Ben was standing behind me.

"What are you wearing?" My father demanded as he looked grudgingly at the supervisor.

"Forgive my appearance sir but in light of the construction I felt it more prudent to not wear my finest to prevent them from being ruined." he replied and my father huffed at the remark. I smiled as this gave me my opportunity to reply.

"I concur with your reasoning. After all, anyone with a modicum of reasoning would definitely agree." I looked at my father and gave him the Merrik Smile. Honestly it still amazes me that even though he's gone Merrik still left his mark on the world in the form of his smile.

Father glared at me but remained silent as I turned my focus on Lyon and dad. They had turned their focus on the cheap rugs laid out.

"Should we even be walking on these?" Dad asked as they were looking at the cheap faded rugs.

"When I get my own mansion I want rugs like these." Lyon said and I jumped between father and Lyon to prevent our father from tearing him a new one.

"Lyon, when you get your own mansion I personally will help you pick rugs that are prettier than these." I said and I looked at father hoping I had managed to appease him.

We were brought to two luxury suites and father directed the bellhop to place his and dad's bags in one room while Ben and Lyon were placed with me in the second one.

"These seem... acceptable." Father replied as he looked around his room. Dad was busy jumping on the bed and Lyon was getting ready to climb on to join him when he got a sharp slap from father on his rear.

"Stop acting like a puppy." he said to dad and he immediately stopped jumping. Dad slid off the bed and went over to a television set and turned it on.

"What is our itinerary?" Father asked Sanic.

"That, unfortunately, is up to you. I have much work to take care of so I cannot shuttle you around personally. However you may use my private limo to drive you anywhere you wish. I have a map with tourist attractions highlighted." Sanic said. Father took the map and looked it over. Dad ran over to a bag and took out a package of dinosaur shaped chicken nuggets.

"But I thought we were gonna spend time together?" he whined as he held the bag out to show Sanic.

"We will and I'll have the chef specially prepare these for us tonight." Sanic said and dad smiled.

"Breaking news as we go to the scene of a riot amidst the latest controversy." A newscaster on the television announced.

"Ah crap it's the news." Dad complained but father quickly shushed him.

"Local species are rioting as Dr. Avram has been officially appointed as guardian of the recently captured Hairless ape. The first test subject, which has been identified as Hueman, was brought to the public's attention when he was captured and brought in for studying.

Who some have called a hero, Bloodhound Lupus-W was captured by a shrewdness of hairless apes and held for several weeks. He finally managed to escape their clutches, at great personal risk, but not before bringing one that he was able to capture.

Hueman is the first white one of their species as Bloodhound described the entire shrewdness as having dark colored skin and fur. They seem to have limited fur on their bodies but they resort to wearing species fur in order to keep warm.

"Dr. Avram Primate-C has petitioned the court to begin research to help communicate and understand the hairless ape species. Several others in the primate species have attempted communication with little to no success." The news anchor said and the camera changed to Dr. Avram as he was ready to address the press.

"We have been attempting to communicate with hueman but even some of the older ape species have had trouble understanding their language. It seems to have evolved in a most curious way. I have even asked BH... excuse me. Bloodhound Lupis-W to assist because he has a limited bond with the boy.

Hueman seems to be roughly 13 to 14 years old and trace elements of him going through puberty are seen when compared to other primates. However their species seems vastly different than our own. He is 99% identical to other primates but we still do not know enough to judge how different that 1% margin is." Dr. Avram stated.

"Local anti white group called Kill White Kreatures, or KWK, rioted the decision stating that they feel the white hairless ape need to be put down to save society." The reporter said.

"Sheeple can belive what day want, but da white book say white iz evil!" Duke Davad said to the camera as he held a copy of 'The White Menace' in his paw. He is the founder of the KWK and uses what he calls the 'White Book' as the foundation of his hatred of rare white fur species. Numerous others have joined his cause because of their hatred and bigotry towards white colored species.

"Outspoken conspiracy theorists like Alex Johns have been stirring up his followers calling for war against all hairless apes stating they will start another Great War unless they are eliminated."

"Kill the white hueman! Then kill all the other hueman! Then we can kill killing!" Alex Johns stated and the crowd following him cheered loudly as father shook his head and covered his face. He watched them with disgust as they disgrace themselves then he walked over and turned off the television.

"I don't think I can stomach any more of this today." he said as we all stood by solemnly.

A fancy dining room was still being constructed when Sanic led us into it. We had yet to see anyone staying here so I figured we were the only guests. Father was in a sour mood and we were all feeling it. Not because of the news story but he was baffled by the accommodations. I think he was expecting more since Sanic had said the renovations were complete.

They had a large buffet table set up and there was plenty of meat for us Predators and specialty grass for father. There wasa, however, two plates full of dinosaur chicken nuggets for dad and Sanic to eat.

Dad was sitting on his heels as he waited for Sanic to eat a chicken nugget. Even the hedgehog was curiously wondering why Leggo was so interested in him eating one. Dad usually thought his jokes were very clever but most of the time they were too obvious. Sanic finally gave in and ate the nugget waiting to see why dad was so excited. He just wanted to get this over with.

"Ha ha ha ha," Dad laughed as Sanic finished the chicken nugget.

"What's so funny Leggo?" Sanic finally asked as father covered his face. Ben and I acted as if nothing happened but Lyon was on par with dad and tried not to laugh but hold it in as the laugher was trying to burst out of him.

"You ate a whole dinosaur!" Dad said laughing and we stared at him. "You know because he's a little guy and a dinosaur is sooo big." Dad continued and Lyon could hold it in no longer and he busted out laughing.

"We sympathetically looked at Sanic and it took him a second then he faked a laugh to make dad happy.

"Very clever Leggo, I never would have thought of that." Sanic said and we covered our eyes in embarrassment while Lyon and dad laughed hysterically. I reached over and slapped Lyon on his arm.

"Father is right, you take after dad way too much." I grumbled.

"And you definitely take after father." he replied and I flinched as if he had slapped me.

"Low blow," I said back to him. In the meantime father reached over and gently pulled my head next to his.

"I love you son," he said, then he kissed my head. "Turnabout is fair play." he whispered to me as he released me and I sat there blushing. Not out of embarrassment but outrage.

"Can we talk about... the dinosaur in the room?" Sanic asked, then he picked up one of the whole chicken nuggets and made it hop outside of his plate as if playing with it. Dad and Lyon were laughing again but I believe the rest of usd figured out that the pun and playing was for their amusement in order to distract them. Lyon rose and went over to dad as they both began to play with the nuggets as if they were dinosaur toys.

"The hairless ape boy. Should we consider offering him sanctuary here because he seems to be a rare white skinned species?" Sanic asked.

"I must admit I have been wrestling with that very same question since I saw the news report." Father replied.

"You guys can't be serious?" Ben responded and we all looked at him. "He's being investigated by scientists. It's not like they'll just let him go because any of us say so."

"That's a minor problem. My company's influence is far reaching. If I cut off their funding and refuse to provide the instruments they need, they'll quickly succumb to our... demands." Father responded.

"You can't be serious, The governments have stakes in their research. The last thing we want to do is get dragged into a battle versus them." I replied.

"Roar!!!" Lyon shouted as he smashed his dinosaur chicken nugget into the one that dad was holding. We all turned to watch them and shook our heads.

"I can deal with my husband acting like a puppy.... But my son too?!" Father replied. Both dad and Lyon smiled at us innocently.

"Seriously Lyon, what do you think of the white ape boy?" I asked and the smile faded from his face.

"Honestly.... Nothing. I think right now the government and scientists know what they're doing except..."

"Except for what?" Father asked.

"They said that BH found and is involved with him. BH is the real threat! If the hairless apes are in any way intelligent, he'll try to use him to get what he wants. Revenge for the destruction of The White Citadel." Lyon said as he picked at his food.

"He's right," I leaned over and kissed my brother's head. I often forget how smart he is when he's not acting like our dad for his amusement. "BH is a big threat to the boy and everything."

"There is some good in him, I learned that from living with him and the evil he hides in his heart! What we should do is get him to join our side." I replied.

"What if we had someone that knew how to bypass the government?" Dad asked and father shook his head.

"No," Father replied after he took a moment to steady himself.

"Why?" Dad asked.

"It's too dangerous! I am not gonna allow Mel's collar to be removed so that Merrik returns! You must be out of your mind!" Father said and he rose and started to walk away from the table. Dad jumped up from his seat and ran after him grabbing his hoof gently.

"Sorry, I shouldn't have brought this up." Sanic said as he lowered his head.

"I disagree Sanic, this is something that affects us all. This is starting to simmer and I fear it may blow up in our faces. The real question is: do we get involved or let others handle it." I said.

"He's right. I'm just afraid there is no easy answer to this." Ben said as he backed me up.

"Hey, hey, I'm sorry." Leggo said as he pulled Lou close to him. They had moved out of earshot of the cubs so they could continue their conversation in private.

"I'm not mad at you... I'm just afraid you might be right. It's not like we're going after a few clowns but 'if' we get involved we may be facing the governments. As much as I would love to brag, I seriously doubt we could do anything. I know I lied back there but I wanted to keep the cubs hope up." Loui said.

"I get it, I really do but I feel we need to stay out of this one. It's not really our fight and after everything we've been through with C.I.Z.A. and The White Citadel, I think we can afford a break." Leggo replied and Lou nodded in agreement.

"We are on vacation after all, might as well enjoy it."

"Yeah, now you're talking number one." Leggo replied. Leggo gave a light squeeze to his partner and kissed his forehead. "Besides you don't know how soft the beds are, I can't wait to christen them." Lou's eyes popped open and he pushed himself away from Leggo.

"Those beds are brand new! Don't you dare piss on them like you did when I bought the new soFA: " Lou warned.

"I meant by us... making love." Leggo chuckled and Lou stared hard at him.

"These beds are brand new,"

"So? Someone has to break them in and I'm not saying we have to ruin them... just use them. We do what we normally do at the mansion. Remove the top sheets and lay on them." Leggo blushed as he leaned in and whispered to Lou. "You in... your undies... and me in mine."

"Well I guess if it's not us then it will be some other cretin." Lou remarked.

"That's the spirit and if you think we've been bad then we can give each other spanks to teach us a lesson." Leggo said and he started lightly nibbling on Lou's ear.

"You horney old wolf," Lou remarked then he felt a slight pressure and something popped from his head and his scalp suddenly felt warm. "Son of a bitch!" he screamed as Leggo bent down and picked up his antlers. The cubs and Sanic ran over as Lou used his hoof to cover his bleeding head.

"Oh my," Sanic replied. Tyger grabbed some napkins and brought them for my Lou to use.

"Sorry Sonic," Tyger said as Lou used them to wipe the blood.

"I really have no control over this, I keep hoping I will reach an age when my antler's would stop falling off but every year I get disappointed when this happens." Lou explained and Sanic replied by telling him it was alright.

"I wonder... should we put these on display to honor my father for everything he's done for the Diamond Community?" Tyger said and looked at Lou to make sure he got the dig. He looked at him with as much hatred as he could muster.

Lou wobbled a bit then went over and hugged Tyger. They began to angrily whisper to each other. Everyone else stood back to let them have their fight

"Any more chicken nuggets left?" Sanic asked as the rest made their way back to the table.
