"C'mon Percy, again?" snarked the Bernese next to him, holding back a grin at his husky's frustrated grimace. On the bottom of the splitscreen in front of them, Percy's avatar was gone, blocks replaced by a red screen and the words 'You died.'

Percy tossed the controller down, letting it thump into the carpet below the couch they were sitting on, fur perked up on the back of his neck. "It's not my fault! It's only when I play with you, normally I'm much better!"

James smirked, leaning over to rub Percy's ears with an affectionate softness, knowing exactly the spot that made his boy melt every time. "That's not what it looks like-- that's what, six times you've fallen into lava alone? At least this time you didn't have our good pickaxe, dummy."

The husky groaned. "Don't remind me-- six hours it took to get that enchanted, gone in three seconds of fire."

"You know you could've done like, so many things there to get out alive. I'm convinced you're just trying to screw us up so I have to punish you," the older dog said, giggling and leaning over to grab Percy's abused controller and hand it back to him. "You know, you're going to break this if you keep it up."

Percy huffed and took the device, respawning after a hesitation, unable to resist the urge to mouth off, saying, "Good riddance, then I wouldn't have to play this with you and your bad luck."

"Oh? So you'd rather go back to being a whiny bitch whenever I play League, huh? You were the one that always wanted to do something," James said, sticking his tongue out, knowing he had caught the dog's bluff. Percy didn't say anything back, huffing and pretending to focus back in on their game. If he listened close enough, he could just hear rain coming closer in the distance, a soft trickle widening into the open patters of a storm. That, at least, got his tail to wag a couple times. Everything was better when it rained.

"Mayyybe instead of playing games we could watch the rain!" he suggested, a puppylike grin on his face. He'd always liked the feeling of pouring water, letting it droop off his fur in fluorescent sprinkles, catching the light as it hit the floor and shattered in a glassy explosion. James had pointed out his fair share of times that it was weird to love the rain but refuse to swim, and Percy didn't really have a response to that- there was something nice about the feeling of rain and showering as opposed to being trapped in open water. Even baths were a no-go without a protective Bernese inside.

The Bernese grimaced at him, ears twitching as the rain came in. "You know I hate the rain- any sort of wetness I won't do, pup. You can go play in the water, though, but you best believe you're showering before you press your wet fur up to me. I don't want a wet Percy unless he smells like lavender shampoo and has extra fluffy fur."

"You never seem to have a problem when I'm wet with things other than water-- you seem to quite enjoy that, even though it's quite a far shot from lavender," he teased back, taking the opportunity to nuzzle below James' arm, his ears pressing back against his head as he tried to fit into his favourite nook in the world somewhat successfully. Before he could get too far, James squeezed the husky tight to his body. A small yelp escaped Percy's maw, cheeks pressed into the fur and snout buried deep in his master's chest, a blush filling his face as he breathed in a couple of times, the scents he knew and loved filling his lungs with every inhale. He couldn't help but let his eyes close a bit, those were the smells that brought him into a calm sleep every evening and the first thing he smelled when he woke up.
