Little did Riko and surviving dad, Gairiff, know that their beloved "Old Blue Eyes" was indeed very much alive.Time Long Ago:[Approximate Location: ~ Chicago, British North America](Unknown Prehistoric Date - 1757)Born a very, very long time ago, no one knows exactly when. We know only he was born on Midwinter's night in an age long gone. He was chosen by the spirits to help and protect those in dire circumstances in the harshness of winter. He wandered the land for many years; hence, the nickname "The Wanderer." He many times went into deep sleep for centuries and millennia, waking up on occasion to help someone in desperate need.He had saved many people over the years. He could recall many of the incidents: such as the time he saved a young wolf of the Marrock tribe, Baku, from a frozen waterfall long ago. However, after thousands of years, he was getting 'old' and tired of his duty. He longed for something more. He longed for someone to accompany him on his journey through time. He longed for someone to love him and for him to love too.By chance, the Gaaric Nation was conducting exploration missions to Earth and the other Colony Worlds. By lucky chance, a Gaaric Captain by the name of Gairiff Naar and his crew were doing some exploration of the wilderness of where at the time was British America. And by unfortunate circumstance, an unexpected cold winter storm separated Gairiff Naar from his crew. Lost in the storm Gairiff didn't see he was walking towards the edge of an outcropping that lay over a frozen stream. He took a step and fell into the icy stream below. Luckily, this was the duty of "The Wanderer" so he promptly rescued Naar and the two rested by the fire in the safety of his shelter. They spent the next two weeks together as storm after storm barraged the Great Lakes Region. In this time, he began to feel something he had not before. That longing he sought. A burning passion inside begins to kindle itself within him. He started having feelings for Gairiff and Gairiff started having feelings for him."Old Blue Eyes," Gairiff called him. This was because the old wolf had the deepest and most piercing blue eyes. Gairiff could have sworn were glowing in the darkness of the night that "Old Blue Eyes" rescued him. Nonetheless, the two gained great fondness to one another and a great relationship had begun. On the cold, dark night of the Midwinter of 1752, the Old Spirits decided to bestow a 'gift' upon the couple as the two made love by the fire. The 'gift' bestowed itself as the months went by as Gairiff unexpectedly developed a belly and soon 'gave birth' to a son, Riko. For a couple years, the family peacefully lived on the shores of what would become known as Lake Michigan. Every so often, Gairiff needed to leave to perform his duties for the Gaaric Starfleet, but for the most part was able to perform his duty of "exploration" on Earth, with his family. Gairiff kept "Old Blue Eyes" and his son a secret from the Gaaric Nation, due to the hatred and homophobia that was being spread by the administration at this time. For the most part, the two wolves thought they were safe from harm as long as no one knew their secret.Unfortunately, a maleficent Gaar, Enrick Spiezzer, had been keeping an eye on Gairiff for the purpose of using him as leverage against Raalk Staalnik, an ex-lover of Gairiff's. Raalk still had feelings for Gairiff and Spiezzer wished to eradicate it from his heart in order to take full control of this already tortured soul. So when Spiezzer found out about the pup, he tried to use this against Staalnic, but the result was not as expected as Raalk was happy that Gairiff was able to find love and have a family. Spiezzer was so angry; he had no choice but to execute his nuclear option. On the 20th of February, 1757, Enrick Spiezzer ordered his men to capture Gairiff Naar and take him into custody. In addition he ordered them to take the child so that it could be used for his nefarious experiments. A battle ensued resulting in Riko and Gairiff being "Taken" by Spiezzer. In his last moments, "Old Blue Eyes" guarded the unconscious body of his partner and fought with claws and teeth to protect his gift of the spirits, Riko. Unfortunately, he knew that his ancient arms and magic was no match for the advanced weaponry of the Gaar. The end came when one of the soldiers approached him and fired a pulse of energy from his weapon, striking the old wolf in the chest. The last thoughts of his mind flowed forth from his muzzle to his lover lying beside him and the son who was biting at the legs of one of the soldiers."Take care my love. The time for my rest has come. We will meet again in the spirit realm when your time comes.""My son, Riko. You will live a long life filled with light and darkness, but do not be afraid. The spirits will guide you and one day you will find love as I had. Goodbye my son. I will always love you."However, this was not the end for "Old Blue Eyes."The old wolf awoke with a start. He looked around him in panic, searching for his beloved Gairiff and their son, Riko. Unfortunately, they were gone.Gone forever....  Or so it seemed...Present Day:[Rest Area - Interstate 80]October 11, 2021The poor "Old Blue Eyes'', who became to be known as Rex, spent many years wandering in sorrow after losing the love of his life and his son. They were taken from him and there was no way for him to be able to see them again. He never did find anyone else to replace his lost love, Gairiff Naar. In more recent years, he has been spending his time as a truck driver, traveling the roads, wandering in the hope that he can find happiness once again. He had great hopes when he met a young college student, Wulfgar, but unfortunately, it was not meant to be.Nonetheless, the old wolf had grown tired of his lonely journeys. Stopping to take a rest after driving for several hours, Rex took a look up at the stars. He longed for someone to hold him tight. He longed for a love which he never believed would ever come again. He wondered....I wonder if that young wolf Wulfgar remembers me?He hadn't thought of the young wolf in a long time. He couldn't believe it had been 10 years since the night he met Wulfgar. In all his travels, the young Wulfgar was the first person in a very long time to give him a sense of hope. Something about him made Rex feel that maybe there is still hope for himself. Even though the two only had a brief time together, Rex kept a bit of that hope in his heart and it had kept him going for the many years since.I wonder if I still have his number? He checked the notebook he kept in his truck and sure enough, Rex found the phone number the wolf gave him 10 years prior. He sighed. There is no way that he still has the same phone number. It's been 10 years now. I know that he's probably found someone by now... But I do wonder what he is up to and if life has been good to him.He hadn't bothered to check the time. It was almost 2:00 in the morning, but the racing thoughts in his head clouded his judgment and he dialed the number....Ring......Ring......Ring......Ring..."Hello?"To his surprise, Rex heard a familiar, but deeper voice."Is this Wulfgar?" asked Rex in a trembling voice."Yes. This is Wulfgar.... Rex is that you?"Rex could not believe it. Wulfgar did remember him. Rex was on the verge of tears as the two talked together for the first time since their last encounter many years ago.   As they talked, happiness flooded his heart; however, something else that Wulfgar told him would give Rex what he has long sought all these years. His beloved Gairiff and their son Riko were Ok. In fact, they were here on Earth and would be waiting with open arms for his return. He no longer had to wander alone as now Rex knew that he would soon be reunited with his family and with an old friend.THE END____________________________________________________________________
