Wolf O'Donnel got a belly and he's losing confidence in himself, but a blue bear is determined to tell him otherwise.

A commission for beary-the-rookie

Darkness, that's what usually comes when you put on a shirt; your vision is blinded temporarily when you put on your top. That's what one Wolf O'Donnell is doing while he's at an admirer's place. It wasn't the first time Wolf has been at this place, but he has noticed something with his visits.

As soon as Wolf can see again, he looks at his reflection in the mirror. Long gone are his abs that he worked so hard on and a stout belly replaced them. The shirt he grabbed didn't even go over it. He sighs and pinches his sides. "You've let yourself go, Wolf."

From behind, he feels the warmth and grabby paws massaging his back. Those same paws wander over to Wolf's belly and give it some pats as if he was playing a drum. "You have to go so soon?"

Wolf places his paws over the blue ones and squeezes. "Yeah, Beary, I do. McCloud isn't going to get the best of me today." Wolf flexes his arms and pushes his leg forward, posing. He also flexes his abs but stops as he sees his gut in the mirror. "Hey, can you toss me another shirt? This one is too small."

Beary releases his grip on Wolf and walks into the closet. "I can, but why though?"

"Why? I'm Wolf, leader of Star Wolf," Wolf flexes his stomach, sucking it in and hiding his flab, "I can't strike fear into the hearts of my enemies if I walk around with my belly out." He relaxes and his belly pushes back out.

Beary comes out from the closet with a longer shirt and tosses it to Wolf. The canine takes off the shirt he was wearing and gives it to Beary who holds on to it. "I think you're a great leader. You strike fear into your enemies' hearts."

"I can't do that in a crop top." Wolf puts on the long shirt and looks at himself in the mirror. His belly is still there, but it's covered. "This is the look of a leader. He can command respect with his belly hiding behind a layer of fabric."

"Why?"

"Why what?"

"Why can't you do this in a crop top?" Beary wraps his arms around Wolf's midsection and raises the shirt, releasing Wolf's belly. The blue bear kneads into it as if he is a happy kitten, rubbing the muscles under the soft fur. "There's still muscle under there. So you have a belly now, so what? This means your enemy will underestimate you and you can take them by surprise."

Wolf looks at himself in the mirror. He closes his eyes and imagines facing off Star Fox in their arwings. The cockpit is a little cramped for Wolf's liking, but he knows Fox can't see his belly from the com. It's when they have to fight one on one that Fox will see Wolf's physique.

Wolf shoots down Fox and crashes into the world below. Wolf joins Fox and exits his arwing to fight Fox in hand-to-hand combat. Both canines clash. Wolf moves slower than normal against Fox, which is Fox's downfall. He moves just like normal against Wolf, but he misses with every punch and kick he throws towards Wolf.

Wolf's blows on the other hand keep connecting with Fox's body. Fox barely has time to react to the slow yet powerful punches and kicks coming his way. Wolf lands a kick to Fox's midsection and sends him to a building behind him. Fox stumbles out of the wall and to the ground. He rolls on his back and sees Wolf standing over him. He presses a foot to Fox's chest and laughs.

"Today, I win, Star Fox!" Wolf continues laughing and feels familiar paws wandering his belly. He places his paws on top of those and comes out of his fantasy. He turns around to Beary and kneels to his eye level.

"See? You don't need to be fit to defeat Fox."

Wolf looks at the shorter shirt in Beary's paw and grabs it. He tosses the longer shirt he was wearing before and replaces it with the shorter one once again. He looks over himself in the mirror. He flexes his midsection, hiding his belly and salutes. He relaxes his muscles and lets his belly hang. Beary whistles behind him and Wolf turns around. He hugs the blue bear and kisses him on the cheek.

"Today, I'll show that fox I mean business."

"Yeah! Go get him!"

Wolf turns towards the front door of Beary's house. He smiles and waves goodbye to the blue bear and exits. He steps into his arwing, not as cramped in his fantasy as he thought, and programmed a flight home. "Just you wait, Star Fox, I'm coming!"
