#4 of The Sins We Carry

Part 4 of The Sins We Carry

In this chapter, Solrent and Rex continue their journey into defeating the next brother. Here, they are tasked in visiting an underground catacomb. Along the way, they meet a new companion, Mr. Strings, who shares with him all of his knowledge of his travels. Rex is intrigued by the knowledge that Strings knows, but Solrent has other thoughts. Solrent is very skeptical of who this Strings guy is, and why he is here. Is Mr. Strings an ally to help them, or is there a hidden agenda that Solrent is jealous of.

Author's Notes: I hope you guys will enjoy this entry. It is a bit longer than I anticipated, but I had a fun time writing the development for Solrent and also expanded more on combat writing. A lot of this is new to me, so I hope I did my best.

The Sins We Carry

Entry 4: Spite

From where we last left off, Solrent and Rex took a reprieve from adventuring to relax and find more information about the brothers. They visited Athena, who informed them that she will try her best to gain more intel. They then visited Spessart's brothel, looking for any more clues that may have been left behind. Then, they were dragged into Top's dimension, the astral plane. Initially thinking they were defeated, Solrent and Rex learn that not all of the guardians can be bad. Top leaves them with advice on the remaining four brothers, hoping that our two adventurers would be able to rescue his family and defeat his dad once and for all.

Solrent and Rex were speaking with Faladiel, informing him of their recent success in obtaining three of the seven gemstones needed to open the portal. Surprised, Faladiel congratulated the two on obtaining these gemstones so swiftly, and with only knowledge of just one brother from him.

"I knew you two were the right ones for the job, you were able to take down three of the seven brothers." Faladiel gave a soft clap as he nodded his head. "How were you able to get a hold of the last one? From what the other guild leaders informed me, that one was the toughest one to get."

"Oh you know Faladiel," said Rex. "We just got lucky with running into that one."

"Yeah Faladiel," Solrent continued. "The third brother magically appeared before us and we somehow came out of it unscathed."

"Oh? So what was the brother like? Was he a difficult one to defeat?

"Umm...I would not say he was not that difficult, but we were really not prepared, right Rex?"

"Yes Sol. It was not how I imagined that encounter to happen, but hey, we got the third stone and that is what matters the most," Rex nervously responded. "But anyway...got any news about the next brother Faladiel?"

Faladiel fixed his glasses and shuffled some papers around, before he reached into his desk and brought out the next map. "Ahh, yes the next one. This comes from the guild out east and they informed me that there is an underground catacomb located here." Faladiel circled the location on the map. "There were rumors that one of the brothers could be here."

"Got any better information this time then? Besides just the location. You know what happened to Rex and I last time we went in a bit blindly."

"Yeah...I'm sorry about that you guys." Faladiel gently bowed his head in apology. "But you two were able to get the last two without my assistance."

"That may be true, but that still took a toll on Solrent and I. We feel it's best we have more information this time around."

"Alright, alright, here, now listen closely." Faladiel took a deep breath before he continued. "I heard these places can be a bit trippy on the mind. This is an underground catacomb, a bit like a maze. But be very, very careful. The last group that went in, I was informed that one of the adventurers had a mental breakdown."

Tilting his head, Solrent asked, "What do you mean, a mental breakdown?"

"The adventurer said they were seeing things and hallucinating, like seeing the other party members doing something that got them emotionally traumatized. The party consisted of four people, and one of them kept patronizing the other three, saying very nasty stuff. I do not know much about what was said, but I know they had to abandon the quest and send help for the adventurer."

"That sounds a bit scary, now that you put it like that, Faladiel. I mean, I know Solrent had gone through some emotional trauma, and the same with me."

"It's alright Rex, I heard from the grapevine about that. But I also learned from the church that you guys are better equipped at handling that sort of stuff. I know you guys got this, and here." Faladiel placed a huge sack of supplies. "More potions, rations, you name it. This should be enough supplies for you two."

Solrent reached over and placed the supplies on his person. "I guess so. Well, if the church believes we can do this, and Faladiel as well, then we got this, right Rex?"

"You bet. I just hope we do not encounter anything more traumatizing than the first two."

"Good luck you two. I look forward to your report." Faladiel bowed one last time before heading back to his office.

Rex looked over at Solrent and sighed. "Athena has faith in us. And now that we have our gemstones, I think we learned how to handle our emotions."

"Yes Rex, I will make sure not to let my emotions control me like that again. You are the best partner I have." Solrent patted Rex on the shoulder.

"Thanks Sol, so let's start heading out." Rex grabbed onto Solrent's hand as they exited the town, heading towards their next destination.

Their journey to the catacombs looked to be about a day's travel. Heading east, our party traversed along the trade routes to their destination. The wildlife this time looked to be stronger, but our party's presence shied away any potential encounters. The sun slowly started to set, painting the sky a flaming yellow and red. Our party decided this may be the best time to set up camp before continuing on their journey.

Solrent started to pitch the tent, noticing how the sleeping bags this time looked to be more comfortable than the last. "Hey Rex, it looks like Faladiel did not disappoint this time. These bags look quite comfy compared to what we had last time."

Rex peered over Solrent's shoulder, examining the sleeping arrangements in the tent. "Oh you are right. I guess the guild had the funds to support our journey. Makes me wonder why we did not receive it the first time. And also..." Rex pointed at the wide open space at the entrance of the tent. "...there is a lot of space here. I guess another person like a halfling could potentially fit in here with us as well."

"I guess, but I'd rather it just be me and you, Rex. Not too keen on having another party member yet. You have all the magic and support, I'll be the physical frontline for us."

"I know Sol, we have been very successful with just us two. But it does not hurt to maybe have another companion to just join us from time to time. You never know, having two supports or two frontlines is better than one."

"I'll think about it, I mean having Athena join us would be amazing. Not only can she be in the front, she can also heal as well. She would be one of the perfect sort of companions to join us."

"She would be, but I think she has her hands full with the church. I would not want to pull her away. Still, it would not hurt to have another magic caster or something like that. I wish I could be a bit more offensive with my magical spells as well." Rex looked down at his feet, giving off a big sigh.

Solrent looked over at Rex and hugged him tightly. "Hey Rex, don't beat yourself up. You do what you do best. I appreciate the support you always have given me."

Rex looked back at Solrent and smiled. "Thanks Sol, that is true. Anyway, I'll start preparing our supper." Rex walked over to the firewood in the middle of their camp and cast Prestidigitation, lighting the fire. "What would you like for me to make today?"

"I'm happy with whatever you have in mind."

"Heh, you are too easy when it comes to my cooking. Ok, let me see what we have to work with then." Rex rummaged through their supplies, taking out cans, pots, and kitchen utensils. "Hmm..." Rex placed his clawed hand on his chin, thinking. Then, Rex forms his hand into a fist and hits the palm of his other hand. "I got it, I'll make something warm and hearty for us. Just be on the lookout for anything suspicious, you know, the usual stuff."

"Aye aye captain," Solrent jokingly said.

"Whatever, jerk, haha." Rex prepared the meal as Solrent kept watch on their surroundings. The sun started to disappear on the horizon, the crackling of the wood strengthened as the fire maintained its life. The aroma emanating from the pot wafted into Solrent's nostrils as Rex added the finishing touches to the meal. Rex brought out a bowl and a ladle, and filled the bowl to the brim. "Here you go Sol, I made some warm, chicken soup for us."

Solrent reached out with his hands and grabbed the bowl from Rex. He sniffed the soup, feeling his sense of smell enlighten as saliva slowly dripped along the corners of his map. He brought the bowl to his mouth and opened his maw, slurping the soup down his gullet. In only just a few seconds, the bowl was empty and Solrent extended his arms to Rex, asking for more. "Yum! That was absolutely delicious Rex. That really warmed me up."

A bit shocked, Rex said, "Uhh. Did that not burn your throat at all?"

Solrent chuckled and said, "I'm of dragon descent. You know, we sort of like, do well with fire and whatnot."

"Isn't that just a stereotype? Like dragons and fire. I swear that there are dragons that do well with other elements, like acid, thunder, ice, and wind."

"Possibly, but I do well with fire. Though...I wish I could breathe fire." Solrent tried to cough up flame from his maw, but to no avail. "It would be nice to have a bit of a range attack."

"Does your kind even breathe fire? I mean, dragonewts in general. We fought two of them...well three technically...and only one of them sort of breathed something at us. Top just shot us with light, and he does not seem like the fire kind of guy."

"Yeah, Rubrum and Spessart did not look like the kind of guys to breathe fire either. Maybe it's just something only a few can do, or possibly not do at all. It's fine though..." Solrent reached over and grabbed his spear, examining the tip and twirling the shaft around. "...I am fine with this. I always loved using spears...in more than one way." Solrent gave a sly grin to Rex."

Rex shook his head in disgust, reaching for the bowl in Solrent's hand and scooping him another bowl of soup. "You really need to say that now? Is Rubrum's stone affecting your thoughts again? I swear, I will be more than happy to bring out Spessart and whack you a few times."

Solrent smiled, eating his soup again. "I'm joking Rex, geez. You should know me by now."

"Yeah, yeah. Whatever. Let's just eat while the food is still hot."

"Fine, Mr. Buzzkill."

Rex and Solrent continued their meal, exchanging pleasantries and talking strategy about how to handle the next brother. After some time, Rex set his bowl down and brought out his ocarina. "I guess a little campfire music would not hurt, right Sol?" Rex brought his maw to the mouthpiece and was about to blow.

Solrent closed his eyes, listening to the sounds of music drifting through the wind. "After that meal, a little bit of calming music would be nice. Although...I did not know your ocarina had the ability to play strings as well."

"...That's not me Sol..."

Solrent quickly opened his eyes, got into a battle stance and scanned the surrounding area. He looked over at Rex, who was also battle ready. The sound of the strings kept slowly approaching them. "You don't think it's Rubrum...do you?"

"Can't be, and besides, he played a keytar remember. Unless he picked up a guitar and was resurrected, I doubt it's him."

"True, but whatever it is, best prepare ourselves. The music is getting closer, and closer."

"Yeah....wait...I think I see something...look," Rex said as he pointed down the road, seeing a figure slowly approaching their camp.

The sound of music emanated loudly as the figure took each step towards the camp. However, the melodic tune sounded very peaceful and serene. No sense of malice was detected in the air, as the figure finally made its appearance in the camp. Solrent and Rex looked at the figure, or rather, looked down at the figure, seeing a humble kobold in front of them. The maroon colored kobold was dressed in a simple red and black attire, with a black hat and a red feather on top. He had a gold ring in each of his clawed fingers and on his tail, which also dangled a simple red gemstone. On his feet looked to be some sort of leather shoes, but his claws poked right through the front. The kobold continued to play his lute as he looked up at the party and bowed his head.

"Well, hello there strangers. Mr. Strings was wondering if you would be so kind as to help him here."

Strings

College of Lore Bard

Kobold

"Mr. Strings seems to have lost his way, and hoping that you two would be able to assist him in getting back to town?"

Rex looked over to Solrent and asked, "Well, he seems harmless. And I do not sense anything malicious from him."

Solrent eyed Strings, looking him up and down. "Yeah, I guess that is alright. But Mr. Strings, we do not plan on heading back to town yet, we have to go do some adventuring."

"Oh, Mr. Strings see. Well, Mr. Strings is not in a rush to get back to town so soon. Mayhaps he can join you two for the time being, if that is alright?"

"Well, Sol and I plan on heading into a very dangerous area, and we do not want any harm to come to you. We are both prepared for the fight ahead."

"That is fine. Mr. Strings can handle some stuff on his own. He has been traveling for quite some time, and can defend himself."

Solrent continued to look at this strange kobold, seeing him not heavily armored, and the only weapon he had on his was his lute. "Hmm, well. I know kobolds almost never be by themselves. They prefer to stay in groups. So why are you here by yourself then Mr. Strings?"

"Oh, yes yes. Mr. Strings' tribe is near the mountain range. He tends to venture out on his own, to see human settlements nearby. He was always curious about the outside world, so he learned some magical stuff to help him on his way."

"Oh? So you are a wizard then Mr. Strings? Kind of odd to wear that kind of clothes and be a magical spellcaster like that," Solrent said.

"Oh, no no. Mr. Strings is no wizard. In fact..." he brought out his lute and played another quick song. "...Mr. Strings here is a bard, in particular a College of Lore bard."

Rex jumped out of his seat, his eyes sparkled with admiration. "Another Bard! And College of Lore too." Rex reached over and placed his hand out, which Strings gladly shook. "I too am a bard Mr. Strings. I am from the College of Eloquence. My name is Rex by the way, and my partner here is Solrent. He's a Battlemaster Fighter."

Solrent slowly rose from his seat and shook Mr. Strings' hand as well. "Pleasure to meet you Mr. Strings. You can call me Solrent."

"Thank you Mr. Solrent and Mr. Rex, pleasure is all Mr. Strings." He bowed his head down and smiled back at the two. However, his stomach rumbled and he blushed with embarrassment. "Oh, Mr. Strings apologize for that. He has been traveling and has not eaten all day."

Rex reached over and brought a hot bowl of chicken noodle soup over to their new friend. "Here you go Mr. Strings, let me know what you think."

Mr. Strings eyed the soup, inhaled the aroma into his nostrils before he brought the bowl to his snout and slowly slurped down a bit of the broth. He looked over at Rex and smiled in relief. "Ooo, this is delicious there Mr. Rex. Mr. Strings has not had a good meal in such a long time. He thanks you so much."

Rex beamed at Mr. Strings. "Oh, you are very much welcome, Mr. Strings. The pleasure is all mine."

"See Rex, you are an amazing chef, and even Strings here thinks it as well. You should take pride in your cooking."

"Oh stop it Sol, you are embarrassing me."

"Mr. Strings thinks there is no need to be embarrassed about that, Mr. Rex. You should be happy to share your achievements, just like him. But anyway, Mr. Strings apologize that he cannot give anything back in return."

"I mean..." Rex looked down at his feet, twiddling his clawed fingers together, "...I wouldn't mind if you share maybe a bit of your knowledge of the magical arts with me. My bardic knowledge of spells is not too great, since I do more of the persuasion and communications for Solrent and I. I want to learn more offensive spells, so maybe you can enlighten me on some stuff you know."

"Mr. Strings would be more than happy to tell all that he knows to Rex. But maybe we can do that tomorrow. He is a bit tired, and a goodnight's rest would be best for the mind."

Rex nodded his head and looked back at Solrent. "Yeah, that sounds like a good idea, right partner?"

Solrent slightly rolled his eyes, "...Yeah, we should get some rest. Sorry Mr. Strings that we do not have enough sleeping stuff for you."

Rex eyed Solrent curiously, "What do you mean Sol? We have some room in our tent, we cannot leave our guest out here in the cold outside."

The kobold bard jumped up and smiled. "Ahh! Mr. Strings knows how to contribute to that." He closed his eyes and played a unique tune on his lute. He uttered under his breath, Magnificent Mansion, and a shimmering portal appeared before everyone's eyes. "Mmm, the least Mr. Strings can do. You are more than welcomed into his home. So please, come right in."

Rex jumped up and down in joy. "Ooo, I heard about this spell. This one creates a very safe resting spot for the party."

"Yes, that is correct Mr. Rex. Whenever Mr. Strings travels, he uses this to spend the night. That is why he has no issues with encounters."

"I cannot wait to learn this spell on my own too. This is cool, right Sol?"

"Yeah...I guess so..."

Rex tilted his head. "Everything okay there, Sol? You seem a bit off"

Solrent responded, "No, I'm fine. Just a bit tired, let's just head on in."

Mr. Strings smiled and led the way into the portal, followed by Rex and then Solrent. In the portal, they were greeted by ghostly apparitions of Mr. Strings' tribe. They tended to their belongings and showed them each of their individual rooms. Mr. Strings offered to create a room for the two, but Solrent insisted that it would be best if maybe they each all have their own room, to just really experience what this place has to offer. Rex wondered why Solrent would not suggest being in the same room, but did not want to press into the matter anymore. Mr. Strings bid our two heroes goodnight as he and his servants walked into his grandmaster's room. He informed them that their rooms were down the hall, and would be placed across from each other. Solrent and Rex bowed their heads to Mr. Strings as they too walked to their rooms. Once they got to their destination, they opened their door and were amazed to see how extravagant their rooms were. They had their own personal bathroom, an ornate king-size poster bed, dressers and even a vanity station.

"Wow Sol, this is so amazing. I want to learn this spell so badly. I hope Strings can teach me all that he knows."

Disgruntled, Sol said underneath his breath, "...You sure are buddy buddy with him all of a sudden..."

Rex turned around and said to Sol, "You say something there Sol? You seem a bit off ever since we met Strings."

Sol took a deep breath and sighed. "I'm fine. I'm just tired, let's just head to bed."

Concerned, Rex gave a slow nod and walked into his room and closed his door. "Okay, well. Have a goodnight's rest then Sol. See you tomorrow morning."

Solrent entered his room and closed the door behind him. "Night. See you tomorrow as well." Solrent took off his armor and enjoyed a nice, hot shower in his own bathroom. Once that was done, he jumped onto bed and tucked himself in, enjoying the fluffiness of the bed and the silken pillows. He looked up at the sky and closed his eyes. He muttered, "...Rex is getting too close with Mr. Strings and we just met him. I don't like this guy. Something about him is throwing me off...I feel like he is trying to take Rex away from me...I'm not jealous...I am protecting Rex from danger....zzzz...."

*****************************

The next morning could not have come sooner. Even in this pocket dimension, sunlight still shined brightly through the window. Solrent felt recharged, despite all the negative thoughts he had last night. Maybe he was just tired, or maybe it was something else. Still, he knew he had a little bit more motivation to tackle today's task. Solrent freshened up with another shower, put on his armor and walked out of his room. He heard chatter coming from down the hall, as the smell of delicious food infiltrated his nostrils. As he approached the sound, he heard the distinct voices of both Rex and Strings.

"...So what sort of magical spells is Mr. Rex interested in?"

"Hmm...I never thought of that Mr. Strings...but I am fine with learning about anything. However, if I did have to choose, maybe either the lightning element, or something to do with more arcane/dark arts."

"Oh? The dark arts. That is the opposite of what Mr. Strings casts. Mr. Strings is particular about the radiant arts, along with fire. Mr. Strings will try his best to share his knowledge about some fire arts, but when it comes to the arcane arts, Mr. Strings may not be as helpful."

"That is alright Mr. Strings. I am fine with just learning anything more on the offensive side of spellcasting. I just feel I need to be more usef...Oh hey there Sol." Rex waved to Solrent as he approached the two. Strings also waved his hand as well and beckoned him over to enjoy the breakfast his servants prepared.

Solrent walked over and gingerly sat down in the chair, a hint of annoyance flashed across his mind. He looked over at the food prepared in front of him, a hearty, cylindrical shaped offering that looked foreign to him. He poked at it with his claw, unsure of how to attempt to eat it.

"Oh Mr. Solrent, this is something Mr. Strings has learned from his travels. It came from a foreign land, and those inhabitants named it a morning flour wrap stuffed with lots of fixings. He put some eggs, onions, spicy liquid seasoning, and the belly of a pig. He hopes you will like it. And also, you can eat it with your hands and bite down into it, or you can use a knife and fork."

"It is really good, Sol. I am amazed at the knowledge Mr. Strings has. We have been talking for hours this morning, and he has been sharing with me all of his knowledge about magic, and even cooking. He is like a literal walking library."

Disgruntled, Sol took a bite out of the breakfast offering and felt a jolt of energy flow through him as the succulent flavors traveled down his gullet. It was something he never ate before, truly amazed at the cuisine of where this came from. "It's alright."

Rex looked at Sol sternly. "That's a bit rude there Sol...I mean you could at least be more descriptive. Something the matter?"

Mr. Strings interjected and said, "Do not fret Mr. Rex. Mr. Strings knows that not everyone has to like all kinds of food. He will do his best next time to consider stuff that Mr. Solrent would enjoy."

Rex glared at Solrent, before turning his attention back to Strings. "Anyway, so you are good to go then Mr. Strings?"

Strings nodded his head, "Oh yes, Mr. Strings is ready. He will also support Mr. Solrent as well. He will try to use his performances as best as he can to support them. And he will cast some magic if need be as well."

"Better support me then, it's my job to protect Rex, and I guess you as well."

"What's up with you Sol? You seemed to have a bit of animosity towards Mr. Strings. Are you sure everything is ok?"

"I'm fine."

"It's alright Mr. Rex. Mr. Strings guesses that Mr. Solrent wants to be sure you are safe, since he does all of the frontal stuff. But do not fret, Mr. Strings will make sure your safety is of utmost importance to him."

Solrent rose from his chair and readied his spear. "We should get going then, we don't have any more time to waste."

"...Alright then Sol..."

Solrent, Rex, and Strings all left Strings' mansion. The moment they stepped out of the portal, the shimmering rift in space disappeared. All of their basic camp supplies were left undisturbed from the previous night. They all packed up their belongings and headed towards the catacombs marked on the map.

Along the way, Solrent led the charge, but constantly heard the chitchatter between Rex and Strings. They talked about different bardic performances they know, along with various spells that both of them have access to. Because of Strings' expertise in the matter, he was able to delve into more of the magical arts, which Rex thoroughly enjoyed learning about. However, the nonstop talking kept clouding Solrent's judgement about Strings. He kept thinking, This guy will be the end of our team. Rex is going to want to ask him to join us, and then Strings will have Rex all to himself. I cannot let that happen. I won't let that happen. I'll be sure to that.

Eventually, the party encountered the entrance to the catacombs. The initial steps down looked dark and damp, with no sign of life anywhere.

"Looks a bit dark down there, Sol and Strings, best tread lightly."

"Let Mr. Strings light the initial path then." He closed his eyes and muttered, Dancing Lights, as several orbs appeared in front of them. Strings commanded one orb to follow each of the party members, while the last orb lit the path ahead of them. "There, Mr. Strings believes that should help."

Solrent rolled his eyes and entered the doorway, leading the path for the party.

Strings looked over at Rex with concern, but Rex just sighed and shook his head, following Solrent into the catacomb, with Mr. Strings trailing behind.

The party continued down the tunnel, the orbs showing the simple straightforward path ahead. Ultimately, the party encountered the heart of the catacombs, the underground maze. Everyone looked at each other and nodded, bracing themselves for what is to come.

Solrent looked back at the two, showing concern to Rex, but a little bit of disgust to Strings. "Remember you two, be careful. Don't let anything overtake you guys."

"Yes Sol, we got it."

"Mr. Strings is prepared, and here to help you too," Mr. Strings said with a smile on his face.

Solrent just looked at Strings and turned his head back to the path, and took one big step forward into the maze. The party navigated through the maze, sticking together as close as possible. There were some forks in the road, but Strings sent out his Unseen Servant to scout out ahead. The servant proved helpful in ensuring no traps would harm the party and if they were to be activated, the servant would take the blow.

As they continued on the journey, a strange fog appeared before Solrent's eyes. He stopped for a moment, wondering where this fog was coming from. He looked back at the party and said, "Hey you two, did it get more foggy in here all of a sudden? It also feels a bit colder as well."

Rex looked around, not seeing anything around them that had changed. "No...I don't see any fog, what are you talking about Sol?"

Solrent looked around his surroundings again, but the fog seemed to have disappeared. "Hmm...nevermind, I guess I am seeing things...let's just keep moving..."

"Alright Sol..."

The party continued to navigate through the maze and luckily avoided any encounters in this maze. However, each step of the way, Solrent's eyes started to glaze over and lose a little bit of life in them. The fog invaded his mind, hearing voices here and there, but these voices were familiar. They were the sound of Rex's and Strings' voice. At first, he was annoyed with the voices talking about more spells to learn, and the different cultures that Strings has seen in his travels. But the voices turned to moans and groans. Perplexed, Solrent turned behind him, and was shocked with the sight he saw.

Solrent witnessed Strings sitting on a makeshift stool, his 6-inch cock on proud display, pre dripping down the shaft as Rex was on his knees, servicing it. Oddly, Solrent felt frozen in his place, and all he could do was stare in disbelief at his own partner tending to this stranger they just met yesterday. Rex continued to drag his tongue up and down the cock, teasing the tip of it's head before sliding down to the rather large set of balls. The moans of the two echoed throughout the catacombs, Solrent's horns deafening from all the lewd noises. He felt a bit of anger in his mind, but that anger turned into jealousy, as he saw his partner would rather service this tiny lizard than a dragon like himself. Solrent then saw Rex engulf the entire cock into his maw; the tip of the cock bulging at Rex's throat. Rex just murred loudly, his tail wagging as he brought his paw up to caress String's sack. Strings slouched on the stool, groaning and giving off a sly grin at Solrent's direction. More jealousy built up inside of Solrent, and he wanted to scream, to put an end to what he saw, but his body still betrayed him, his eyes too focused on seeing this unorthodox adult behavior from his partner. After a few more minutes, with the constant slurping and sucking noises echoing in the catacombs, Mr. Strings moaned loudly one last time, his cock erupting inside of Rex's maw, shooting all of the kobold's potent seed down Rex's throat. Rex moaned as well, enjoying the taste that Strings had to offer. Rex counted four to five shots before he pulled back, one last squirt spraying over his entire face, as cum dripped down his chin and onto the floor. Strings smiled at Rex, before he turned his attention back to Solrent. Strings gave off an evil smirk as he pulled Rex up to his eye level, and gave him one big kiss on his snout.

Solrent wanted to scream, but his voice still betrayed him. He closed his eyes and opened them once again, but instead of seeing the two, he instead saw a wall. With his voice coming back, all Solrent said was, "OUCH!"

"Hey Sol, Sol! You okay there buddy? You literally just ran into a wall."

Solrent blinked his eyes a few more times, and he saw a wall in front of him. He reached up and rubbed his snout, before turning back and seeing Rex and Strings look at him with bewilderment. Rex and Strings still had their clothes on, and they did not smell of any lewd activities. Confused, Solrent said, "What just happened? I swear I saw you guys doing something..."

With an equally confused face, Rex responded, "What do you mean? What are you talking about Sol? We were just following you and the servant, trying to figure out this catacomb maze. You were oddly silent though as you kept walking, and then you just ran into a wall for whatever reason. Are you sure you are ok Sol?

"Yes Mr. Solrent. Mr. Strings may not know much when, but he can sense some sort of problem. He is more than happy to help give you any seeds of advice."

Upon hearing the word "seeds", Solrent stared at Mr. Strings with malicious intent, "You can keep your seeds to yourself, especially in your pants lizard. I don't need your help."

Shocked, Rex walked up to Solrent and gently punched him in the shoulder. "Hey! What is with your attitude? Mr. Strings is only trying to help. No need to say something nasty like that. Geez, what is with you today?" Rex walked over and bowed to Strings. "I am so sorry about that Mr.Strings. I do not know what is wrong with Solrent today."

Strings bowed as well, both to Solrent and Rex. "No worries Mr. Rex. Mr. Strings understands. Mayhaps Mr. Solrent may have hit his head a bit too much on the wall, and it juggled his brain right now. Mr. Strings knows that Mr. Solrent does not truly wish any harmful words on this one. All is well."

"If you say so, Mr. Strings. But anyway Sol, just be careful with what you say. Let's just keep on moving."

"Yeah...sure...Rex...," Solrent said as he readjusted himself and continued down the path. I swore I saw all of that just now. It has to be real, it just felt way too lifelike to be fake. Maybe this is a vision of the future. That has to be it. Strings must be doing some bardic ritual on me, just like Rubrum did. He wants to fuck with my mind.

The party remained determined to get to the end of the catacombs. They felt like they had to be close to the end, since the pathways seemed to get more branched, as if someone was purposely trying to get them lost. However, with Strings' expertise in general and the help of his servant, the party was about to hit the end of the catacombs and presumed to encounter the owner of this dastardly place.

"Hey guys, I think we are nearing the end. There are so many different directions we can go. How would anyone figure out which way to even approach? Any ideas, Sol or Mr. Strings?"

"Hmm...Mr. Strings thinks the best path is still forward. The branches are there to cause you to second guess your thoughts. But let me send my servant out ahead to check ahead for us. We could do a bit of rest while we are here."

"Yeah, I think all of this endless walking has got me mentally drained, so I agree we should take a stop. Sounds good right, Sol?"

Solrent continued to just blankly stare at the ground ahead, barely registering what Rex had to say. "...Huh? Oh yeah, sounds good Rex."

Rex walked up and stared intently at his partner's eyes, seeing if there was anything suspicious. "I swear Sol, you are not yourself. Don't tell me that Rubrum is affecting you right now."

"No, I am fine Rex. Look." Solrent pulled out Rubrum's stone, glowing red with life. "I am perfectly fine and this stone is not affecting me right now. You know that these have no major effect on us anymore." Solrent pocketed the stone back. "I am fine Rex. F-I-N-E fine."

"Okay, okay, I got it. Geez." Rex walked away and stood next to Strings. Strings asked if everything was okay, to which Rex responded that all was fine. The unseen servant eventually got back to the party, and it pointed the correct path for them to head towards. "Whoa Mr. Strings, your unseen servant is super useful. Also, it does not operate like the normal unseen servants that other spellcasters use."

"Mr. Strings has unique spells that no one else has. All of it was learned on his travels."

"That is so cool Mr. Strings, I hope I can have unique spells like that as well."

Solrent gruntled in disgust. "Ahem, can we move on with our lives now? We don't have all day."

"Geez Sol. What gives?"

"It's alright Mr. Rex. My unseen servant is back, and it is now pointing the right way. Let's just go then, okay? Sounds good to you then Mr. Solrent?"

"Finally, whatever, let's just go and get this over with." Solrent followed the unseen servant down the straight path, with Rex and Strings behind him.

The party continued down the path, any branching tangents lowered in numbers along the way. Solrent told Rex and Strings to stick close to him, as the path started to narrow, forcing them to follow in a line. Luckily, Solrent was able to see the end of the road, an entrance to an open room at the end of the maze. Just as Solrent turned and wanted to inform his party, his eyes briefly glazed over and fogged. Solrent blinked for a moment, and again saw a sight he could not believe.

Clothes were tossed to the side; Rex's bardic attire spread across the ground, as well as Strings. His ocarina was placed gently on top of Strings' lute, undisturbed. The sound of a thump echoed against the walls and throughout the room. Strings laid on the ground, with his head slightly propped up, his tongue lolling out of his mouth. Behind him was Rex, pushing Strings with his arms to the ground, as he aimed his cock right at the entrance of Strings' tailhole.

"...You like that don't you, you little lizard. You just joined our party, to let me fuck you."

"...Yes...Mr.Strings...loves this...your cock feels...so big...Mr.Rex..."

"Mmpphh, heh, at least someone appreciates me. I'm more of a bottom myself, but I'm glad you are a nice switch. I'll be more than happy to be your boyfriend, at least you are willing to reciprocate. Now, just keep moaning as I pound that sweet, little ass of yours."

"Yes...Master Rex...keep pounding your good...little lizard..."

Solrent's jaw felt like it hit the floor, witnessing a sight he never would have believed. His timid and shy partner, this personality of his, came out of nowhere. Solrent tried again to reach out and scream, but his voice escaped him. His muscles betrayed him, his body frozen as he was forced to spectate the intimate scene between Rex and Strings.

Rex started thrusting into Strings, eliciting loud moans from him. Strings panted, drool seeped from his maw to the ground as he reveled in the pleasure of being stuffed by Rex. String's cock leaked his pre, a puddle pooling underneath his groin as Rex continued to fuck and breed the good little lizard.

"Mmm...Solrent would never let me do this to him Strings...he is too busy focusing on my tail to let me take his."

"...Mr. Solrent is missing a lot though. Mr. Rex is very good and skillful. Mayhaps Mr. Rex would like to spend more time with Mr. Strings after all this. We can always go to the mansion and enjoy life together like this"

"...I'll take you up on that offer then Mr. Strings. But for now." Rex leaned up, right behind Strings' earhole. "Keep up the moaning and groaning for me. I want Sol to see all of this and know his place in my heart." Rex resumed his pounding into Strings, pistoning in and out of Strings' tailhole.

"...Mr. Strings assumes Mr. Solrent may have done something in the past to upset Mr. Rex. You two looked like you were possibly in a relationship, with how close you guys talk to each other."

"Yeah, but I have to tell you everything he has done to me before we met. I will save that for another time though, maybe when we are sleeping together in your huge bed. Mmm, that would be perfect. He always wanted to sleep really close with me, but I always refused. Even when we were forced to snuggle closely, I tried my best to keep space. But with you though Strings, I'll be more than happy to give you all the cuddles you want. I want to see that jealousy build in him, to see him become spiteful.

"Heh...Mr. Strings wonder where all of these emotions are coming from in you Mr. Rex. This is all new to him."

"Don't worry about that right now Mr. Strings. I will explain that in due time. Just-. "Rex pounded in real deep, hilting him from behind, Rex's crotch fully pressed against String's hole. "-keep being the good bitch you are. And you will get your reward from Master Rex."

Mr. Strings murred softly, panting harder, feeling his cock pulse and spew more pre onto the ground. "Mr. Strings is close, Master Rex. Please fill up your good lizard bitch with all of your milk."

"Then brace yourself, Bitch." Rex pounded faster and faster before he pulled back one last time and thrusted balls deep into Strings, his cock pulsing and shooting all of his cum right into Strings' bowels. Strings moaned loudly as he felt wave after wave of Rex's cum slowly filling up his belly, his own cock shooting and spurting his milk onto the floor. After a minute or so, Rex slowly pulled out of Strings, his cock still shooting and painting the little kobold's back white. Strings lost the strength in his limbs and collapsed onto the ground, covered in both his and Rex's semen. Rex smiled and stood proudly, admiring the work he had done. "Mmm..perfect, how you should be Strings. But don't worry, we will take turns in this role. I am a nice guy after all. Not like Sol." As Rex said that, he turned his head towards Sol's direction and gave off an evil smirk and laugh.

"Mmm...Mr. Strings...will take you up on that...but for now...he will rest..."

Solrent felt his entire body flow with anger and jealousy. His own partner, one who he had personal feelings for, would end up betraying him like this. He could not believe it, but he saw it with his own eyes. Rex, the one who he truly loved, would rather fuck a lizard, then be with him. The only thing Solrent could do, the only thing he felt like he could say, was one word, one simple word that got their attention.

"STOP!"

Rex and Strings turned their heads and looked back at Sol. Rex's hand was on the door handle, with Strings hovering right above it. Bewildered, Rex chimed, "Uhh...did you need more time to prepare or something Sol? I mean, you were just standing there, and I assume you wanted Strings and I to open this door and you would be there to attack anything that flies at us."

"Yes. Mr. Solrent, we were going to open the door for you since you suddenly stopped right in front of it. We assumed you wanted to prepare for it, so Mr. Rex and Mr. Strings would pry the door open for you."

Solrent glared evilly at Strings, before rushing up to him and grabbing him by his shirt, lifting him off the ground. "You! This is all your fault!"

Shocked, Rex held firmly onto the door as he looked back at Solrent. "What the actual fuck are you doing Sol? Put him down, he didn't do anything."

"Please Mr. Solrent," Strings said as he struggled in Solrent's grasp. "Mr. Strings does not understand what you mean. If he did something to upset you, he would be more than happy to talk with you about it."

"I know why you joined us. You are trying to steal my Rex from me. I won't let you do that, no one gets Rex but me!" The jealousy in Solrent's eyes started to show, as well as an aura emanating from his body.

"Oh my gosh Sol, is this what has been bothering you the entire time since we met Mr. Strings? Are you for real right now?"

"You shut up Rex, he must have put you under a spell or something. Why else are you goading all over him?"

"Uhh, because he's also a bard. This is not like Rubrum or Spessart, okay. And I doubt Top would have anything to do with this, knowing his lazy ass attitude. But you have to put him down, he has not done anything wrong to hinder us. All Mr. String has done was help us. He's been very insightful in teaching me his bardic knowledge."

"And that's the thing Rex! He's so good with his tongue, he has you feeding into his lies."

"What?!? I have no idea why you would think he would be lying to us. Mr. Strings just told me stuff on his journey, stuff that he picked up as a bard as well. We are both in the same profession, so I have no idea why you would suspect him to feed me false information. He's not a rogue or anything like that. And besides, I'm in the College of Eloquence, remember? I should know a thing or two about catching a liar."

"Mr. Rex is right Mr. Solrent. If you believe that Mr. Rex is being told lies, you are more than welcome to have him cast Zone of Truth on me. His journeys are all true. Mr. Rex just wanted to know about the knowledge on Mr. Strings' travels as a bard. And, being a fellow bard, we love to share our knowledge with each other."

Solrent started to shake Strings violently in his grasp. "No, these are all lies. I bet you are even here under the orders of the brother now, aren't you?"

"Brother? Whatever do you mean? Wait...is Mr. Solrent talking about the quest that you guys are on?"

"Yes Mr. Strings, Sol and I are here to kill that brother we talked about and take his gemstone. You see, we..." Before Rex was able to finish his sentence, he accidentally turned the knob and leaned onto the door, opening it. As the door flew open, a strange, black tendril appeared, grabbing onto Rex's arm. "What the...," was all Rex was able to say before he was yanked into the room.

Both Strings and Solrent looked at each other, confused about what just happened. "Oh great, not again. Always with Rex being yanked in many directions." Solrent gently tossed Strings to the side. "You, I'll be watching you, no funny business," Solrent said as he quickly rushed after Rex into the room.

Strings gently dusted himself off. "Of course not Mr. Solrent, Mr. Strings would not dare to hurt either of you. He just does not understand why you are so mad..." Strings swiftly followed Solrent into the room.

String and Solrent ran through the door. As they kept traveling forward, they saw Rex on one knee, slowly getting up. In the distance, they found another figure, his snout peeking from his hooded cloak as he laughed at the trio.

"Rex, are you alright? You aren't harmed are you?"

"Yes Mr. Rex, is everything ok? Do you mayhaps need some healing?"

"I'm alright guys. No injuries or whatnot, but I think we have found who we have been looking for."

The cloaked figure slowly pulled back his hood, revealing his green dragonewt face to the party. He laughed maniacally, juggling some daggers between his two hands as he addressed the group. "Nice of you to finally arrive. I've been expecting you." The figure stowed his dagger as he flipped forward once. The dragonewt was dressed in a simple attire, nothing to hinder his movement or dexterity. He wore a leather tunic on top, with a white shirt underneath. His bottoms consisted of leather pants, loosely fitted. His tail was bare from any objects, and the only other thing he had on him was the cloak. He scanned his eyes more observantly at Solrent and Rex, nodding his head in understanding. "I know who you two are. Rubrum and Spessart warned me about you two. But..." He pointed to Strings. "They did not tell me about a third person...Name's Emmerette by the way."

Emmerette

Mastermind Rogue

Dragonewt

Rex moved in front of Strings as he addressed Emmerette. "You don't have to worry about him. We are who you want, so just leave him be."

Mr. Strings chimed, "No Mr. Rex, Mr. Strings is fine. He is here to support you and Mr. Solrent as well." Mr. Strings brought out a book and stood in a battle ready position.

Solrent stood in front of both of them and said, "Heh, whatever happens to him, I don't care, but we are coming for you, so best prepare yourself."

"What the fuck Sol?" Rex glared at Solrent in disbelief in what he just said.

Emmerette smiled, seeing a special aura wafting around Solrent. He slurped the air, tasting a bit of that envy, feeling empowered to take the party on. "Perfect...I knew Zenny was right about you...Then, let us begin my fellow dragonewt." As soon as Emmerette said those words, he mysteriously vanished.

Rex and Strings stood back to back as they scanned the entire room, while Solrent stood in a defensive position. All of a sudden, Emmerette snuck up behind Solrent and nicked his back with a dagger. Solrent yelled in pain, as he swung his spear around him, but Emmerette easily backflipped from the attack, landing perfectly on his feet a few yards away. "Ugh...I hate rogues."

Emmerette smiled, staring at Solrent, Rex, and Strings. "You have to be better than that if you want to attempt to hit me with that. I'll let you know, I'm a bit more agile than Rubrum. And I know all about you-" Emmerette pointed at Solrent. "I know all about your personality, especially about your feelings for that dinosaur over there." Emmerette gestured at Rex. "And I mean, everything."

Solrent slammed his spear into the ground. "You creeper, you leave Rex out of this. I'm the one fighting you."

"Now why would I do that? It is three against one after all. And besides, if you have not guessed yet, not only do I know things about you." Emmerette cleared his throat and closed his eyes. Emmerette then spoke again, but in a voice all too familiar to everyone. "I have a few ideas about that Rex boy as well."

Shocked at hearing his own voice, Rex stumbled backwards, Mr. Strings catching him and holding him up. "What?!? That's my voice. But how?"

"Like I said Mr. Dinosaur, one of my specialties about me. Now-" Emmerette cleared his throat again. "-Come at me Solrent, if you can." Emmerette said the last of those words in Mr. Strings' voice.

Fueled with anger and jealousy at hearing that voice, Solrent charged recklessly at Emmerette, his spear aiming for his head. Just as the tip was about to touch his face, Emmerette sidestepped and brought out his dagger, slashing at Solrent's side before raising the dagger and nicking the tip of his wing. Solrent stumbled and grimaced in pain. Emmerette smiled and flipped backwards again with ease, creating distance between them. "Mmm...this is going to be so easy. I don't know how Rubrum, or even that bulkhead Spessart managed to lose to you. You barely know anything about fighting, and you call yourself a Battlemaster Fighter."

Solrent spat out some blood and rubbed the spot on his wings where Emmerette nicked him, "Pssh, if I defeated those two, you should be easy as well."

"Tsk, tsk, you only defeated them because of your partner. And speaking of partner..." Emmerette turned around to face Rex and Strings. "...I should be the smart one and take out these two before anything else."

"Oh no you don't!" Solrent yelled as he charged towards Emmerette, holding his spear in a jousting position.

Emmerette smiled as he looked behind him, seeing Solrent charged at his spot. Like a matador, he jumped at the last minute, flipping backwards as Solrent ran past him. While in midair, Emmerette took two darts from his person and threw them at Rex and Strings, hitting each of them as he landed back on his feet.

Rex yelped in pain as the dart hit a critical spot on his shoulder, piercing his clothes. Mr. Strings grimaced a little, his dart only hitting him on his tail.

"Ouch!" Rex stumbled, Strings catching him as he fell to one knee. "That one got me real good."

"Let Mr. Strings help with that, Mr. Rex. Just hold still for a minute." Strings held his hand over Rex's wound and uttered, Cure Wounds, as magical essence flowed from Strings to Rex.

Rex rotated his shoulder, not feeling as painful as before, but the mark was still there. "I'll return the favor to you as well Mr. Strings." Rex placed his hand over Strings' tail and repeated the same words, Cure Wounds, as his magical essence flowed and healed the pain. "Also, I'll sing a tune for you as well. I think we need to cast some bardic inspiration on each other." Rex brought out his ocarina and played a tune, inspiring Strings.

Mr. Strings brought out his lute and nodded his head. "Mr. Strings agrees. He will also play a bardic inspiration for Mr. Rex too."

Annoyed, Solrent yelled, "Hey, what about me? I'm still here. Stop wasting your spells and bardic stuff on him, Rex. Give them to me. Give them to me now!"

Emmerette chuckled, juggling and twirling his daggers again, as he inhaled deeply, absorbing the aura Solrent's body emanated. "Mmm...perfect, this is all too easy. I still can't believe those two really failed to stop you guys."

"Shut up! You don't know anything. I'll stop you, here and now." Solrent squatted before he propelled himself at a faster speed, charging with all his might towards Emmerette.

Empowered, Emmerette taunted Solrent as he came charging at him. As the spear came towards his shoulder, he swiftly ducked and brought out his daggers, striking at Solrent as he came by. Solrent's momentum carried him forward a few more steps before he stopped. Blood was seeping down from his armor to his legs as the daggers slashed through and cut him on both sides of his torso. Solrent clutched his sides as he fell onto his knees, dropping his spear and screaming more in pain.

Emmerette just turned his body around and laughed mockingly at him. "Tsk tsk, so much for this big, brave dragon. You are nothing more than just a dumb brute, like another someone I know." As Emmerette said that, the stone in Rex's pocket shook angrily. "And besides that guy, I am still bewildered how the runt of my brothers lost to you. He thought he could be swift and agile like me, dodging here and there. Unlike him, I make sure to watch my back. Honestly, at least he deserved to be defeated the way he did." The stone in Solrent's pocket pulsed with life, shaking violently in anger, just like Rex's. "But, I'm done playing games, and I will make sure to end it." Emmerette pulled out a crossbow, loaded it and aimed it at Solrent. "I would ask for any last words, but I am not that cliché. Not going to give you any chance. So just...DIE!" Emmerette pulled the trigger, the arrow flying at breakneck speed towards Solrent.

Solrent saw the arrow coming at him, but his body was too much in pain to respond to dodging. Just as he was about to take an arrow to the heart, something swiftly moved in front of him. A loud grunt of pain was heard as the object fell to the ground in front of Solrent. Much to everyone's surprise, the figure was none other than Strings.

Rex looked to his side, no longer was Strings standing there, but now in front of Solrent. "What? Mr. Strings? No!"

Shocked, Solrent looked down at his feet, a pool of blood forming around Strings' body. "Wait...Mr. Strings...Why?" Tears started to pool in Solrent's eyes as he could not believe the person who he had hatred towards would take a hit for him, especially after all he said. "I don't get it. Why would you do that? *sniff* Even after all I said about you, and how I acted towards you..."

Strings' body twitched on the ground, panting and gasping for air as the arrow stuck to his chest. *cough* "Mr. Solrent...Mr. Rex means the world to you...Mr. Strings said he will protect you two...at any cost...because you two have been kind to Mr. Strings..."

"But...I have been the opposite of that...*sniff* I've done nothing more than insult you..."

Rex quickly knelt over Strings' body, holding him gently. "Mr. Strings...no, hang in there. Let me heal you again real quick."

Strings looked up at the pair and smiled. "It is alright Mr. Solrent...Mr. Strings knows you mean no harm to him...you are protecting Mr. Rex...there is nothing more sincere than that...Mr. Strings did not want to be a burden...but he is happy you two are unharmed...and Mr. Rex...do not worry about Mr. Strings...focus your energy on defeating that evil dragon...I'll be okay stabilizing this wound...just...win..." Mr. Strings closed his eyes as he controlled his breathing, the wound on his chest still seeping blood.

Rex stood up, anger in his eyes as he stared at Emmerette, a brief flash of orange sparkled in his eyes. A faint voice called out to him, saying, ...squash him... He looked over at Solrent, helping him up onto his feet. "You ready?"

Solrent nodded in determination, his thoughts filled with desire, the desire to eliminate the foe in front of him. He too heard a faint voice called out to him. ...eliminate him..., as Solrent felt empowered to defeat the foe right in front of his eyes. The pain in his sides dulled as he grabbed his spear and readied himself in an attack stance.

Emmerette snarled at the two. "Heh, that's one down and two to go. This should be...easy..." Emmerette stared intently at Solrent and Rex, as he felt his power slowly escaping from him. "Huh...what is this...wait...no...you two...but...why..." Emmerette saw two figures hovering behind Solrent and Rex. The two figures glared angrily back at him, as Emmerette stumbled backwards, shocked as seeing both Rubrum and Spessart placing their hand on Solrent's and Rex's shoulder respectively. "Why are you two on their side?"

The two figures leaned into the horns of Solrent and Rex and whispered something into their respective horns. Both Solrent and Rex nodded, as they prepared to resume their fight with Emmerette.

"Doesn't matter if my traitorous brothers will help you. I will defeat you two and ensure their souls go to hell." Emmerette then quickly dashed to Solrent, drawing out his daggers to his side.

"We will make sure you crawl back to the egg you came from, Emmerette. All of us will see your downfall. We will stop it once and for all." Solrent charged forward, his spear pointing towards Emmerette."

Rex closed his eyes, as he concentrated on a spell. However, between incantations, he was able to say, "...you...got...this...Sol..just...buy...me...time..."

Emmerette and Solrent clashed, the sound of steel banging against each other. As Solrent lunged towards Emmerette, he dodged most of the stabs and pokes, but felt a bit of pain as Solrent was able to poke his shoulder. Emmerette grimaced in pain and bit his tongue, but charged back at Solrent, slashing at him with his daggers. Solrent parried each of the blows, predicting where Emmerette would attack him. Solrent countered back, swinging his spear instead and hitting the side of Emmerette's body, causing Emmerette to stumble and clutch his side.

"No...my power...what have you done..."

Solrent placed his spear on his shoulder, smiling at Emmerette. "Heh, I had a feeling I knew what was going on. It was you the entire time. You made me see those hallucinations about Rex and Strings. You made me feel jealous, spiteful, anything you can just to feed off that energy. I should have known how you and your brothers operate. But now, we will make sure to not let it happen again. I will not put Strings' sacrifice in vain."

Emmerette gasped for air, still in pain from the damage Solrent inflicted upon him. "Pssh, I'll defeat you even without that power."

Solrent chuckled, "Heh, where have I heard that before. This will be a repeat of that fight, with you being on the ground, eliminated."

Enraged, Emmerette screamed and charged at Solrent, twirling his daggers in his hands as he aimed for Solrent's neck. As Emmerette lunged forward, his daggers pointed mere inches from Solrent's neck, Solrent ducked down and grabbed onto Emmerette's arms. He then used Emmerette's momentum to have him fly over his shoulder, before using all of that force to slam his body hard into the ground. Emmerette gasped for air, as he spat out a mixture of saliva and blood. Solrent opened his wings and flew back a few steps, landing on his feet as he stood his spear next to him. "Rex, NOW!"

As Emmerette struggled to get back onto his feet, he felt like he could not move, like he was paralyzed. However, his head was able to freely move as he looked over at Rex, who smiled at him. Pridefully, Rex said, "Mmm, I have to thank Mr. Strings for that little spell. He showed me how to use a rather unique way of Hold Person. And I got to say-" Rex reached into his pocket and brought out his spessartine. "-this little guy made this spell a little bit more useful than I thought."

Emmerette moved his head and looked down at his limbs, but was shaken as he noticed a ghostly figure crossed their arms across his chest, holding him tightly in place. Through the apparition, he was able to distinguish an orange hue on the skin's surface. He then felt a chill to his side, as he turned his head and saw none other than Spessart smirking at him. "YOU! No, it won't end like this! I won't let it!" Emmerette struggled, trying to move the rest of his body, but the combination of Spessart holding him down along with Rex's spell had him immobile. Then, he turned his back and looked up at the sky, seeing a figure quickly descending upon him.

As Emmerette was struggling to move his body, Solrent reared back into an Olympic sprinter stance. Then, he quickly ran forward, drawing momentum before he squatted and ascended into the air, flapping his wings as high as he could in the catacombs. At the apex of his height, he flipped twice before descending onto the ground, turning his spear upside down so the tip pointed straight towards Emmerette's body. During the descent, an apparition of a red hand was placed on Solrent's shoulder, pushing him forward with more force. The head of the apparition smiled at Emmerette, shaking its head in a mocking manner. Rubrum glared at Emmerette before turning his attention to Solrent, nodding in approval as he let go and disappeared back into the stone.

Right at the moment of impact, right before the tip of the spear started to puncture Emmerette's chest, he heard a faint whisper, a voice he was all too familiar with. "...See you soon..." The apparition of Spessart let go of Emmerette's body, disappearing into Rex's stone.

Emmerette's eyes widened as he felt pain all in his chest. He coughed up more blood, it seeping not only along his mouth, but also from his chest wound as well, forming a pool below him. He looked up at Solrent, and now Rex as he approached him. His first reaction was shocked, but now he was in a state of acceptance. Staring at Solrent, he said, "...heh...I had a small feeling this will end up like this...but I did not want to go like this...you two may have gotten to me...but my next brother...he will easily defeat you...and I mean you...Solrent...just like where there is jealousy...and with desire...you will also seek avarice...my brother...its guardian...will make you suffer..." Emmerette closed his eyes, his body slowly dissipating. Right as his head was about to disappear, he gave off one last statement. "...Roo...Spaz...I guess I will be seeing you two soon...I'm..sor..." All that was left of Emmerette was his stone, his Emerald, glowing green with its envious power.

Solrent reached down and picked up the stone. He felt a wave of envious energy flow through him. He looked over at his partner, and then looked over at Strings' body. An initial burst of hate hit him, but a sense of calm soon wafted afterwards. Knowing the sacrifice that Strings' did for him, the sense of jealousy he had ceased to exist. Solrent pocketed the stone, as both he and Rex quickly ran over to Strings' side.

"Mr. Strings, we did it. Rex and I managed to defeat him. And..." Solrent reached down to hold Strings' head, staring into his closed eyes as tears dropped onto his face. "I am really, really sorry Strings. Please don't leave us. You mean a lot to Rex, and I cannot see him suffer from your death."

Rex placed a hand on Solrent's shoulder, crying as well. "Mr. Strings...I have so much more to learn...please...hang in there..."

"...Mr. Rex....Mr. Solrent...Mr. Strings is happy...for you two...you conquered so much...and learned a lot as well...He's glad he could teach...you as best as he could...but now...he feels like..."

"NO!" both Solrent and Rex screamed, the former clutching onto Strings' body tightly."

Mr. Strings coughed, moaning in the pain of the hug. "...Mr. Solrent...please...don't hold so tight...Mr. Strings is not dead...He has casted Heal and Cure Wounds on himself...He is just tired..."

Solrent cried even more, standing up, cradling Strings' body in his grasp. "I'm sorry Mr. Strings. Rex, let's leave, we have no more business here."

Rex nodded, leading the path out of the catacombs, and back towards the path of town for our party. As both Solrent and Rex looked at each other, Strings' body held carefully by Solrent, they smiled at each other, knowing that their journey was halfway done, with only three brothers left to defeat.

***********************

Elsewhere, three dragonewts were chilling in the hot springs, enjoying a relaxing moment as a small family together. A fourth one approached them, as the three of them looked up at him, two of them giving an initial look of disgust, before turning that into a smile. The green dragonewt slowly descended into the water, soaking and enjoying the calm moment. No longer in pain, no longer bound, the dragonewt felt finally freed.

"So...glad of you to finally join us, eh Em?"

"Yeah, Top. It feels nice actually. And good to see that this is where we will end up."

"Well, I managed to find your soul before it disappeared, can't have you leaving us now, can we?"

"I guess so Top. I will thank you for that."

"Anyway, Em, what do you think of Solrent?"

"Surprised to say, I see the potential in him. I feel like he will go through a change soon."

"Oh? Whatever do you mean by that?"

"I mean. After observing him for quite some time, there is a hidden potential in him, just waiting to blossom. And I feel that his next challenge, with Zenny, will determine it."

"Heh, Zenny, he's the weird one. He's into a lot of stuff that I would not touch. Like literally, he's really the touchy-feely type."

"True, Zenny is a weirdo like that. But I am the closest to him out of all of us, so I know about him pretty well. Speaking of us...uhh...no hard feelings right? Roo? Spaz?"

The red and orange dragonewt sat next to the green one, with the latter placing his arm around his shoulder.

"Yeah, no hard feelings right? Roo? I mean, it's not like Em said anything demeaning towards us. I mean, I'm just a dumb brute after all." The orange dragonewt strengthens his grip on the green one's shoulder.

"Hmph...well, for a runt and being the small one of the group. I may not have much say or power. Yet, this is a majority decision, so how about we take a vote. All in favor of showing some, family love, say Aye."

"Aye"

"I'll just leave this to you guys, Roo and Spaz. I'll abstain from voting."

"Heh, looks like the majority is Aye then, right Roo?"

"Yep, that is right Spaz"

"Please, Top, please help me..."

Top shook his head, sinking more into the water, relaxing as best as he could. "Just, don't make a mess please. This is my house, so try not to be too rough with him."

Roo and Spaz slowly brought the struggling Em out of the water as sounds of smacks and grunts of pain carried throughout the room. Top just turned his body around, leaning onto the side as he tried his best to avoid seeing the discipline that his older brother was receiving from his two younger ones.
