#4 of Fanfics

After all too many years of sneaking about with fake kidnappings and whatnot, Peach and Bowser have finally managed to tie the knot and, through some clever trickery, allow Peach to settle down in the Koopa Kingdom with her new family... her monstrous husband, her son Bowser Jr., and her young daughter, as well as her new best friend Tiara. How did they manage to pull this off, considering Mario's impressive effort to foil the wedding, and what are they using their newfound familial idyll for? That is what this story is all about...

Peach's Married Life

Queen Peach hummed merrily as she watered the rare, three-headed Piranha-plant that had been her bridal bouquet. The plant hummed back, and snapped playfully at her fingers, prompting her to give it a quick rap on the nose and giggle. It was just one more example of her dear Bowser's thoughtfulness - no cut of dead flowers that would soon wither and fade for her, but rather a potted plant that could live for decades to come. Certainly a much lovelier gesture than the oh-so-fancy Soir辿e Bouquet that had been part of her fake_wedding, not to mention how that one would have clashed with her_actual bridal 'dress'... a rather exotic number in black lace and metal spikes, based on the slutty outfit she usually wore while staying with Bowser.

"Growing quite fond of it, aren't you?" Her beloved husband asked softly from over on the bed where he was reclining, gazing at her. She smiled lovingly and nodded, then giggled again. "Very much so, my darling. It's a living reminder of the most wondrous day in my life... not to mention having been used to save me from a rather awkward situation! I still can't believe you were able to think so quickly, and get back up to boot, after the beating that bastard plumber gave you..." She practically growled out the last bit, but Bowser laughed it off. "Ah, I've gotten worse beatings than that... and it wasn't really quick thinking so much as planning ahead..."

He shook his head, and let his eyes rise towards the ceiling as he, too, remembered. Their_second_ 'wedding' - the fake one, furnished with a plethora of stolen goods and kidnapped guests, specifically set up for Mario to crash the party and thus be left believing that he'd successfully stopped them from marrying. The real ceremony had been a far smaller and more private affair, held shortly after her most recent 'kidnapping', even as Mario dashed around the world chasing the mercenary wedding-planners Bowser had hired, trying to 'save' items that would only ever be used as set-dressing. It had been presided over by Bowser's old magic-teacher, Kamek, and had featured only four guests.

"You mean you saw it coming?" Peach queried, raising a delicate eyebrow. She could still remember the paralyzing panic that had come over her when she'd watched Mario, fresh off his latest 'rescue', get down on one knee with, of all things, a rocket-flower in his fist. A flower that, once picked, survived only mere seconds - talk about a contrast with the Piranha Plant Triplets! More importantly, she'd had no idea how she was supposed to answer such a proposal without giving the game away... until Bowser himself had jumped in, delivering a rather belated proposal of his own with her actual bridal bouquet in hand, crowding Mario and creating a sufficiently chaotic situation that she could justify storming off and pretend she was just fed up with their overbearing attention. What a relief!

Bowser grinned and shrugged. "The thought had occurred to me, yes. The venue was_terribly romantic, after all, and while I still prefer the dress you wore for the _actual ceremony, I doubt anyone would dream of denying that you looked absolutely stunning in the Lochlady Dress. I can't blame any man for hearing wedding-bells under those circumstances. So I'd given a thought or two to what I could do if he tried it..." Peach laughed and blew him a kiss - he was right, after all. The Wedding Hall on Ever-After Ridge was the only part of the actual wedding that had also been used for the mock-up afterwards, and for good reason considering the incredible atmosphere and view.

Putting down the watering-can, she sauntered over to the bed to sit down on the edge of it, caressing her husband's orange-red hair as she sighed with joy. "I still can't quite believe it..." she said, in a hushed voice. "We're finally married. Together, for now and forever. No more 'Princess Peach' - I'm the Queen Koopa, even if only a handful of people know it. No more being stuck in the Mushroom Kingdom for months on end, being driven insane by loneliness and desire. No more kidnappings. I keep worrying that I'll wake up and find that it was all just a dream."

Bowser smiled broadly, showing off his fangs, and winked at her. "Well, hey, I may still kidnap you occasionally, just for old time's sake..." he teased. "Gotta keep my hand in, you know?" Laughing, she leaned down to plant a kiss on his muzzle. "Well, there's no-one I'd rather be kidnapped by than you, I'm just glad it won't be the only way we'll see each other anymore..." she said, quickly wiping a tear of happiness from the corner of her eye. One of Bowser's large paws rose to encircle her back, pulling her into a tight - yet not bone-crushing - hug. "I made you a promise, way back when..." he whispered in her ear. "And I _keep_my promises."

More tears followed the first, and for a while, they just held one another as the memories of the long and twisted path that had brought them here played out in their minds once again. Originally, young and stupid and in love, they'd sought to elope together, using Bowser's first faked kidnapping - only for it to be rather brutally interrupted by the recently-arrived Mario. At the time, eloping had seemed the only option, considering their rather conflicting political backgrounds and responsibilities... short-sighted, ultimately, but they'd both been so young, thinking with their hearts and not their heads.

The first time they'd managed to meet up, after that abortive elopement, Peach had made clear to her beloved that despite all obstacles, she remained eager to be his - in marriage of in sin, whatever she could get. At the time, he'd winced - thinking, once again, of his still-recent defeat by Mario's hand. "I won't ask for your hand in marriage until I have the power to make it a true marriage - until I know you can stay by my side." That had been his answer - and so, for years, the same dance had repeated itself. He'd kidnapped her, they'd spent some joyfully depraved days or weeks together, then she'd been 'rescued' and dragged back to the Mushroom Kingdom to once again live the mindless life of a figurehead monarch.

Despite everything Bowser had done and attempted, Mario had always persevered. Against all odds, through armies and traps, with the blood of millions of Bowser's troops on his hands - and, more often, his shoes - he'd triumphed again and again. Peach, personally, was increasingly certain that even if it had ever been possible to kill him, it no longer was. His once-human body had been too heavily altered by exposure to the strange mushrooms that gave her kingdom its name, as well as the odd minerals used in their coinage. Nothing seemed capable of doing more than briefly slowing him down anymore. Bowser, meanwhile, didn't seem to have entirely given up yet - even during the most recent 'kidnapping', where everything was specifically_planned_ to culminate in a dramatic 'rescue', he'd pulled out all the stops to try and finally put the super-powered plumber down for good... even managing to somehow rouse an ancient, lightning-spewing beast from the lost kingdom of Ruina. All to no avail, as per usual.

But this time, it had been different. This time, they'd used their heads, and hatched a complex, though elegant plan. Or, well, Bowser had, Peach wryly admitted to herself. Her own part in it had been fairly limited. It was Bowser who had seen the enormous potential when his scouts first brought word back about the Bonneters and their strange, ghostly powers. It was him who had oh-so-carefully probed their numbers for any sign of dissent or discontent - knowing that they'd need a true ally, acting without duress. He'd done it, too... providing them with the key to their new life.
