Summer Fields stood in his armor waiting. He was assigned a job that he didn't know how to do, well, that was an exaggeration. All he had was his clothing and some personal knick-knacks, and a loaded backpack to do the job, really. Ya, sure, in theory he knew what to do, he had been taught how to do the job, but he'd never actually been on assignment before, never used a backpack, never seen one deployed. So he was a little nervous. You betcha he'd have sweaty palms, ... if his palms could sweat, and if he could feel fear.

Really he should have been terrified. Though he wasn't scared yet. Not yet. Ya, it was a desperate plan, but he'd been assured that, "Really, it's safe, you've been taught what to do. When the time arrives, just open your backpack and give it to the first one who wants it. Then come back home. You'll be safe." He was told it was safe, safe for him to do this.

It wasn't a desperate situation, at least not yet, or at least not for him. Not for his friends, not for his boss. Sure he was trapped. They stood all around him laughing and taunting him. He was in the middle of their ring, standing in a circle and unable to leave. He was told to stand there and so he did.

He scanned the place, the room of stone, damp, fetid - smelling of urine, and death. Dark, and malevolent.

They yelled at him, cursed him. God, they were so Evil. They cursed his friends, cursed his Boss... Cursed Heaven and Earth and all that was within contained. They looked just like demons, they did, twisted evil minds, making evil twisted plans. He could not imagine what they though they would do to him. The things they said to him, so awful and twisted -venomous -perverted, it was like they were beings of pure evil intent on wrecking the world. Like they were carved from the darkness of hell itself. The darkness of their evil thoughts was all encompassing in this unholy room, as he stood surrounded by them, howling and cursing.

He was told to stand tall, stand proudly, and if he was asked to relinquish his backpack to open it and give it to them, then leave immediately. Only he was surrounded by them, he had no idea how to escape. Their dark evil was all encompassing, tangible, like pure darkness.

The biggest of them approached and insulted Summer. And just standing there, Summer bore all their insults, letting them slide off. He knew what truth was. Finally, the biggest guy, stood in front of Summer, and demanded he submit. Summer made the mistake of looking at this being, this evilness. But he didn't respond.

"You have something I want, give me all your gold."

"I cannot give you any gold, none of it is mine to give. I can give you a feather?" Summer offered as a make do.

"Not good enough. Give me all your power."

"You want my power?"

"Yes give it to me!!" This was the moment. This was it, this was the command, and he certainly wanted to get away from this foul place of evil, of evil intentions. He'd been told what to do, and here was his chance!

So Summer Fields, with pure darkness and hate surrounding him, followed his instructions to the letter. He gave them - in their darkness - what they had asked for. Inside his knapsack, - the source - the wellspring of all his power - inside his knapsack, blinding, shining brighter than a million suns, a ball; a sphere of pure Love. It dissolved them as they screamed, it immersed him in pure love, it burned him away, it burned them to ash, the light subsumed him - straight into heaven, to take him home.

And though the darkness had been all encompassing, the light still held.
