The Journies of Martha, Contest with Candice
#2 of The Journies of Martha
I had a lot of stuff to do lately, so I didn't have much time to write. As ever, please comment, give advice and enjoy.
More to come soon.
I decided to make this one extremely short. I'll be posting Part 3 soon ;)
Hopefully this edit will make it easier to read.
"Now that there are two of you, let's practice!"
Martha said excitedly. Martha had them battling each other, making
sure they were still okay though. Mainly she worked on their
teamwork.
"Come on, you two did great. Let's go to the pokecenter. Heal you
two up." said Martha praised them. The journey to the pokémon center
took a while. When she got to the building, she entered quickly. Her
cheeks were flushed pink from the cold.
"Please could you heal my pokémon? They are not seriously hurt, but
with it being so cold it could worsen their injuries." Martha asked
pleadingly. "Yes of course. Just wait. Could you please hand me your
pokémon?" Nurse Joy asked sweetly. Martha handed her the two
pokeballs containing Yena and Ariados. Yena was reluctant to be in his
pokeball, but agreed to it in the end.
"Thank you." Martha said as
she handed her pokémon to the pink-haired nurse. Nurse Joy took the
pokeballs carefully and placed them on a conveyer belt like machine.
Yellow light engulfed the two pokeballs, a minute later Nurse Joy
returned Martha's pokémon to her. "Thank you, is it okay if I warm
up for a bit?" Martha enquired. "Sure, would you like hot
chocolate?" Nurse Joy asked. "Do you have tea? Wait, never mind. I
have some, I just need hot water. If it's no problem" "You got
it." Nurse Joy left her plonked down on a green sofa.
Martha sighed contentedly; warmth. She grinned sheepishly. She should be back out, still though. She savoured the heat and the prospect of tea. She
closed her eyes for a sec and pondered. Sometimes she got slightly
lost in her ponderings, lost to the outside world. "Hello? Are you
asleep? Who are you?" a male voice asked. She never heard that voice
before... Who was the speaker? She opened her eyes. She found herself
looking at a teenager.
He was dark skinned and brown eyed. She blinked
in surprise. "Who are you?" "Nate. Who are you?" "Martha."
The kid sauntered away. Martha heard Nate ask Nurse Joy if she found
any stray pokémon. "Umm, excuse me. What pokémon are you looking
for? Sorry I interrupted." "Hunh? Oh, I'm looking for my Aria."
"Aria?" "Yes. Aria is my Ariados." "Uhh... Do you mean this
Ariados?" Martha opened the pokeball. Ariados was released in bright
light. "Yes that's it! Where ever did you find her?" "I found it
covered in a layer of snow. I released it out of its pokeball, battled
it and re-caught her with the pokeball I found it with. Is that bad?"
"For me yes. For you on the other hand, you got yourself a new
pokémon." "I'm sorry." "It's okay. I know she is in good
hands and safe. I need a new partner however. Could I borrow your
Poochyena?" "NO. I'm sorry, but he stays with me. Sorry. Take
Aria, after all you two had known each other then I did." "Thanks.
I'll return Aria soon."
Nate left the building, setting off out of Snowpoint City. It was a
long time, well after lunch when Nate returned. "I caught myself a
Sneasel. Aria is now yours. Thanks and good luck!" Nate left with a
cheery wave and a bright smile. Martha left the pokecenter and plotted
to the Gym. The gym was covered in ice. It was like a huge glittering
bowl. There was a man standing beside two statues. He warned her that
the first direction she stepped, she'll slide until she knocked into
something. She stepped into the wrong direction and crashed through a
huge snowball. It crumbled apart, and she crashed into a trainer. She
was challenged to a battle. Martha had won barely. Snover's ability
caused hail. Aria had been KO'd, and Yena was not much better off. She
had to leave the Gym to go to the Pokecenter.
She returned to the Gym and vowed to be more observant. It is a test for trainers after all. Not just a battle. But also a battle of wits. This Gym was one big
puzzle. She had to think through it. There were steps down the middle
except it was covered by snow boulders. How could she get rid of them?
She had no Fire type pokémon, no other way around; there had to be
some way... What if she smashed into them from the side? She decided
to try it out.
She stepped to the right and slide to the wall. She headed deeper into
the room. She found that the trainers proved to be a good way of
improving her skills, as well as her pokémon. Except that Aria and
Yena were put under a lot of strain afterwards. They were learning a
lot though, and quickly. She smashed through most of the snow
boulders. She was progressing though. Finally she beat all the
trainers and cleared the obstacles. She used a few Potions on her
pokémon and gave them each a Leppa Berry to restore their Power Points
(PP). "Alright everyone let's challenge Candice!" Martha called out.
She set back to the entrance and walked down the stairs. She might
beat her, she might not. It did not matter if she lost the first time;
she could always challenge her again. But what about her pokémon if
she lost? She hated to lose, and would her pokémon share the
sentiment? All she could was to do her best. She reached the plinth
where Candice stood. "My Name is Martha; I challenge you to a pokémon
battle!"
