First off, I do not own any Digimon chars or any nicknames that involved in the stories and I was granted permission to use them. I do own the char named Al. I apologize first hand if there are spelling or grammar errors because English is my second. Anything else, please enjoy.

Side Chapter 2: Knowing Your Trueself.

Al keeps on training as the schedule prescribe from Monday to Friday. At Saturday and Sunday, Jake, Zane and Derek came by a visit in their PC forms. They wanted to know how Al is doing so far and sometimes they wanted to spar with him. Of course, with just a week worth of training, Al lost the fights. Gatomon, Renamon, Lopmon, Black and Derek felt sorry for his continuous lost but they couldn't help it because it is for his own good.

Al felt miserable for losing. He wanted to hide his face away on the ground. He slowly remembered what Renamon said at the first night. "It doesn't matter that you are weak now, as long as you grew stronger tomorrow." 'Renamon was right. I shouldn't give up now. I have to be strong no matter what.' Al thought and slowly rises up and takes a deep breath. Al swept the dust around him and walked towards the spectators. "Shall we get ready for the outdoor activity?" Al asked with a smile.

Renamon felt relief that Al can endure the pain and humiliation. Palmon smiled at him and then throw a bundle to him. Al is curious about the content of the bundle but Palmon was on the lead. "It contains some water bottle. We may need it because we are going out until midnight."

"Count me out, because I have to hone my skills." Black waved declining the offer and walked toward the status equipment.

Palmon, Gomamon, Biyomon, Lopmon and Armadillomon began to walks to the nearest forest and Al, Jake, Zane and Derek followed behind. Al tried to remember again the scenery he saw a week ago. The path they took leads to the area with medium size lake and mountain foot.

The seniors began to tell them which is best and which is not after working for two hours. Most foods in the Digital World were your basic average vegetables or fruits. When eating it, the flavors were not as their looks. Al is quite curious about the origins of the foods. Al asked numerous questions about it and the seniors oblige to answer it as best as they could.

Jake took a fruit that looks like a banana, but the color is bright orange. When he ate it, it tastes like a real orange fruit. Derek took a light jade green apple. He ate it and it taste awful. Lopmon told him that what he took was call meat fruit. It will taste better when it was cooked. Jake, Zane, Derek and Al were disappointed because they took many meat fruits. Palmon calmed them down and told them to gather some firewood and small branches to put the fruit on.

Around twenty minutes later the teams had gather enough firewood to make a fire camp. Armadillomon scraped some soil to avoid forest fire. Jake and Biyomon set the woods on top of the soil while Palmon and Lopmon gathered more fruits. Gomamon helped them by pierce the fruits on the sticks and ready to be cooked. Al tried to unleash his skills, but didn't make it. Biyomon smiled at first, and then she teaches him how to do it. She told him to build up the power inside his stomach, and then unleashed it through the jaw. Al tried again. This time he built up the energy on his stomach and unleashed it through his jaw, but ended up with a large belch.

All of them who watch him laugh out loud, even Gomamon and Armadillomon rolling on their back laughing. Al looked down in shame and embarrassed. "I...I'm sor-ry. It's just that, i... it never happens t... to anyone before." Biyomon responded within laughter. Al blushed even redder than before. Al squatted down and started fiddling the ground after losing all of his dignity in one day. Derek, Lopmon and Biyomon saw him, tried their best to cease their laughter, and approached him. "I'm sorry for laughing at you. Perhaps I didn't tell which energy that you should feel. When building up the power inside of you, you have to sense it."

"And which one is that?" Al asked in sad tone and tears in his eyes.

Biyomon nibbles her finger on her lower beak thinking the answer. "I don't know myself. I can guess that when building up some energy, you can feel a slight burning sensation building up inside you. You need to channel it on to your jaws after that, and usually we're doing it by instinct." Biyomon explained to him.

"Please, don't feel bad anymore." Derek replied and patting Al's shoulder. Lopmon pleaded him without a word with his puppy eye routine or in his case bunny eye.

Feeling supportive, Al slowly stood up and readied himself. "All right, I will try it again." Al closed his eyes and began to build up energy. Al can sense there is a burning energy even though it was small amount. Al focused on that burning energy and charged it up. The small burning energy grew bigger and bigger. The energy is too big for Al to handle and he felt like wanted to throw up. Al did it by instinct and slowly but rapidly forced the energy into his jaws and throw it out. The energy turned into a fireball, launched from his maw, and hit one of the trees. The fireball was so big that the tree explodes and broke down into millions of wood chips.

All of them looked in amazement on how strong his attack was. It is definitely a Pepper Breath, but the power was beyond their expectation. "That is one big Pepper Breath for a rookie. Are you sure you didn't eat something weird?" Gomamon whistled at Al's skill.

Al's maw is still fuming with some fire while looking at the shattered tree. "That was great!" Biyomon yelled and gave him a big strong hug, which squeeze his breath out and lighting out the flame. "All you need to do now is to control it. You don't want to lose your stamina only to conjure up the Pepper Breath alone."

"I won't unless you let go." Al replied wheezing for air. Biyomon was confused at first, but when she saw his paled face she let go her hug. Al fell down to his knee and starts coughing for air. Those who saw it laugh again.

"Well that was a very good entertainment. Let's eat; it is lunch time daddy-o." Armadillomon announced.

"How on Earth, did you get a fire while the entire pyro user is here?" Lopmon asked.

"Gabumon species can cough up some fire too with his Blue Blaster, or in his case Black Buster." Palmon answered while pointing her vine finger at Jake.

"At least it is a lot easier than you were when using a skill." Jake responds while turning some of the meat apples.

"And I thought you guys were adapting in your PC form." Al asked after gaining some air to stand up.

"We are, but we are fast learner." Zane replied. "Besides I can see your whole energy through my eyes." He pointed his eyes.

"I forgot that you can see the Glitches too." Al responded. "Speaking of it, why is everything so quiet?"

"We deal all of those in your absence." Derek replied. "And we got some new powers from it too."

Al was surprise to hear the newfound news from his friends. "Interesting, what was it?"

Jake stood up after hearing the queue. Jake crossed his arms in defense style and yelled. "Altered Slide Evolution!" A blinding flash appeared from Jake's body. Inside the flash, Jake's Gabumon form starts to shattered and leaving only grids. The arms and legs grew longer and thinner. The body grew slimmer and the tail began to curl up. The head grew larger slightly; the maw grew slightly longer; and forms a pair of K-9 ears drooping forward. The shattered data began to gather at his arms and formed a pair of gloves. The next gathering data is on his forehead and extended around his head and more at the back of his head like a headband. Afterwards, the data starts gathering his whole body. The transformation is complete.

The flashes fading and there stood Jake in his new form. Al was surprise and interest with his new looks. It really is a humanoid Akita K-9 species with black fur in most part except the abdomen, lower curled up tail, mane, paw feet, and muzzle. He wore red boxing gloves that match his red headband. "So, what do you think?" Jake asked in his new form.

"I've lost for words, except it really suits you perfectly." Al answered still in surprise state.

Jake smiled at him after hearing his amazement. "At least you are not the only one that can transform into others."

"But who or what is that?" Al asked.

"I do not know." He answered and looked at his glove. "Even they do not know the name of this species, until I looked it in the web. It looks like an Akita dog with black fur."

Al suddenly remembered something about his first Altered Evolution. "Did you hear a faint voice coming from your head?"

"I don't know. Why?" Jake asked in confusion by his sudden question.

"It happened to me once when I evolved into GeoGreymon. It speaks the name faintly at first, but if you focus the voice, it gives you the name." Al explained to him.

"That is new to us." Lopmon responded. "We usually called our species names by instinct."

"So are you saying that I don't have an instinct?" Jake asked in anger tone to Lopmon.

"We are humans after all." Al tried to calm him down.

"Well I know that but what about you, were you?" Jake asked still in anger tone. Al felt like being backstab when Jake asked that question. The seniors, Zane and Derek heard it clearly. Jake suddenly snapped out from his anger and realized what he has done. "Al. I'm sorry, I didn't mean that."

Al lowered his head in sad expression. "It's all right. I was wondering that myself." Al replied in a sad tone. He walked to the campfire and sat down near it, looking at the fire feeling lifeless.

Derek and Lopmon glared at Jake. "Nice going, Meany." Derek stated and walked to comfort Al.

"He started it." Jake pointed at Lopmon.

"But you don't have to open up his mental wound. Whatever that means is." Lopmon responded and followed Derek.

"Great, I have become baddies again." Jake grunted with a sigh.

"At least you have learned something." Biyomon responded. "One: Control your temper; Two: Do not blame your lacks to someone else, especially your close friend. Three: If you ever do that again, I swear I am going to kill you before others." She threatens him with a killing glare.

Jake looked at her with sweat drops rolling down his head. Biyomon walked to the campfire and tried to comfort Al. "Guess, I went overboard." Jake talked in whispers. "One more thing that I learnt from these: All women are scary when they are mad." Jake shuddered when the image of Biyomon glaring at him appeared in his mind. Jake walked back to the campfire and sat directly at the other side of the Al's position, feeling a little guilty and shame to use weaknesses.

All of them are having a quiet lunch in the forest for at least an hour and a half and then they clean up and continue the survival lesson. Al listen it but not as eager as before. He tripped over some small rocks or root stumps and hurt himself because he isn't focus. Lopmon applied some leaf on the wound. Lopmon told him that it is a leaf balm. The effect of the leaf balm is to heal any physical injuries and not recommended as edible because it taste bitter than any medication on Earth. By the end of the day, Al has gained enough knowledge about basic survival even though it was a slow progress.

The Destinies were spending a night in the cottage, after hearing the stories upon Al's progress. Once again, Jake got a deadly glare from the females for bullying Al. At midnight, Al is having trouble sleeping because he had so many questions in mind. Jake also having trouble sleeping because he had a weird dream. There stood a figure that almost similar to Jakes new form except it was blue with golden iris. The bipedal Akita dog attacked him and purposely missed him. Jake, however, dodged and blocked as his reaction. The bipedal Akita showed all the skills he had to him and Jake try to imitate it. The fight ended when the blue figure fell to the ground because of direct hit from Jake with the skills he learned from it. The blue figure smiled at him and offered it's hand to him. Jake feeling cautious didn't accept it at first, but eventually opened up because he felt that the figure only wanted to teach him all the skills he had and master it for the upcoming battle. Jake was curious about the name and the figure, as if it read his mind, began to talk. He didn't hear the name because there was no voice coming out of it. Jake try to focus it and slowly the mute grew into whisper. When the figure finally can speak its name clearly, Jake woke up from the dream.

Jake woke from his makeshift bed and saw that everyone is still asleep. Jake looked at the window and it is still dark. Jake sigh in relief and intend to fall back to sleep when he noticed that Al's bed is empty. Not just Al's, but Lopmon's, Renamon's, and Gatomon's beds are also empty. Jake is curious of where they are right now, when suddenly he heard a faint thud coming from outside. Jake slowly got up and walked out slowly to the entrance.

He looked around to see the source of the sound because it is quite dim. He finally saw the source and it was Al practicing some punches on the log. 'He is practicing.' Jake thought. He looked around for the other three and found nothing. 'And he is alone. Now it is my chance to make up with him.' He said feeling guilty about saying that he isn't human. Jake walked toward Al at slow pace in order not to surprise him.

Al is focusing his punches and claws at the log for a better strength and precision. He heard faint grass stomp telling him someone is approaching him. Al looked around to see whom it is while panting. Al saw that it was Jake still in unknown form. Jake greeted him by waving a paw. "Morning, Al. Practice early?" Jake asked.

"Oh it's you Jake." Al replied panting. "No, I can't sleep. I got too many things in my mind and I want to clear my head straight. What about you, did I wake you?"

"It is just a stupid dream I had that woke me up?" Jake grunted head pointed at random places. Jake focused his eyes at Al again in sad expression. "Al, I am sorry for what I said yesterday. I didn't really mean to hurt you again."

"Oh, that." Al sighed and then continued practicing. "Like I said before, I was wondering that myself. In fact, that is what on my mind right now. All of the Destinies said that I have turned into a Digimon. And yet inside me, I felt nothing more than just an ordinary human. At least that is what I felt. What do you think?"

"I don't know. One thing I am sure of, I can't change who you really are. You are you, no matter the outcomes." Jake answered. "Consider it as new chapter in your life, or should I say a new blank book in your life." He joked about it.

Al looked at him with an odd looks. "Sometimes, your jokes stink. By the way, I am curious what dream that you had." Jake tells him his dream about fighting with another figure that looked exactly like him. Al scratches his chin trying to think what his dream means. "I think your instinct tells you what you are, and showed you what skills could be used in that form."

"That I never knew. If that is the case, I know the name of this form." Jake replies. "It is kind of faint at first, but when you said to focus up, I heard it quite a bit. The name of the species is BlackGaomon."

Al smiled at him. "Welcome aboard, BlackGaomon. And thank you, Jake." Al responded and not a moment too soon, the sun has rise.
