A rockruff had traveled far from his humble farming town and into the kingdom that was rumored to have three legendary dogs reside in, who were three of the strongest warriors in the land.

Many pokemorphs would want to go there to meet these legendary beings, to see them for themselves, maybe challenge them, get a memento or two from one of them, even join fan clubs about them. They were basically famous legendaries that had a heated rivalry between all of them.

Rockruff wasn't going to do any of that though, he didn't need to challenge them, he was too weak for that. He didn't need a memento, he believed memories were far more precious than just a simple reminder. He wasn't even interested in joining one of the clubs, he didn't need validation from other people he never met to continue pursuing his true desire.

No, none of those things were what made him want to meet them., he had a bigger reason, and that reason was for him to evolve.

Rockruff always wanted to evolve and become stronger, strong enough so that he won't be considered like the little runt in his family anymore, he wanted to become independent, to become a hunter, if he were to start in his current form, he was afraid he will be the hunted first before he could become a hunter, and who better to train him to become strong than not only one, not two, but three legendary dogs of renowned strength and fame.

He saw the entrance of the kingdom, and boy was it a sight.

The kingdom's perimeter was surrounded by a large river to keep out anybody who'd sneak inside lest they would have any sinister intentions to enter the kingdom without going through the entrance.

The entrance was manned by three guards, and a large iron gate that would be operated by another on top of the walls, an armored Aggron it seems, figures it would be a large pokemon due to their strength.

In the distance, Rockruff could see the peaks of the castles, which were owned by two kings, Zamazenta and Zacian, two very responsible and powerful figures, legendaries who had a whole kingdom to take care of, who were incredibly looked up to but also were found in the eyes of the residents to be very sexy in terms of not only their physiques but also through their gentle and caring personalities.

But Rockruff didn't come here to sightsee, he was here to make a name for himself and earn the strength that his bloodline was capable of achieving through evolution, so first he went to the gates, possibly to earn passage to the city walls.

The guards take notice of him, and stand firmly in place, looking like they had no intention of letting him pass through.

"Halt there stranger, we've never seen you here before. State your business" Said the guard, a corviknight, asked him.

"I... I came here to see the legendary dogs! I want to become stronger!" Rockruff told them.

"Hmm... A considerable reason... But we can't just let you in freely, after the incident with an assassin a few days ago, passage to this kingdom has become strict" Corviknight said.

Rockruff couldn't believe it, he wasn't allowed inside? His journey has been doomed from the start... No, he shouldn't give up, if he does, he definitely won't be able to evolve!

"Please! I want to evolve one day! I wanna become stronger! I will prove myself! I'm not an assassin!" Rockruff begged them.

Corviknight was about to deny him again when the other guard, a sirfetched, interrupted him.

"Well if you really think you can prove it... Go to the herbalist around nearby if you want, he'll give you a mark and if you come back here with it, we'll let you in, he's just near the perimeter of the forest, in that cabin in the distance" Said Sirfetched, pointing at the cabin near a very thick forest, in the middle of a lake that had a small board of wood as a bridge.

"R-Really? Then I won't waste time! I'll get that mark, just you wait!" Said Rockruff as he ran towards the cabin.

"... Really? You're just gonna lead that would-be assassin to him?" Corviknight asked Sirfetched.

"Don't worry, if that runt really was an assassin as you said, then he will take care of him" Sirfetched reasoned.

Corviknight knew that Sirfetched had a point, and continued to stand guard in the entrance, comforted knowing they wouldn't have to deal with him.

Meanwhile Rockruff ran down to the place where the cabin was located, the cabin was nearby, just as the two guards told him, but he didn't know what this mark would even look like, or if the alchemist would give it to him, he didn't know what that mark would exactly mean considering he's just going to fetch something for him.

He hesitantly knocked on the door, asking himself if this really was the right cabin, although he didn't know any reason any other cabin would be outside the castle considering it was safer, maybe it was because it was closer to nature so that the alchemist would be better suited with his life and be near water? He heard alchemists always needed that when making restorative brews.

"Is anybody there?" Rockruff asked anybody who might be inside the cabin, knocking on it lightly.

There seemed to be some noises from inside, as if someone was scrambling to get to the door as Rockruff waited patiently.

The door revealed someone peeking inside, as he only saw partially of what the interior revealed, seeing that everything, well, as far as what he saw, was made of wood.

The pokemorph who peeked out at him was wearing a hood, hiding his identity, and the only distinguishable feature was a red eye peeking out at him.

"What do you want?" The hooded stranger asked him.

Rockruff hesitated, the voice seemed rough and... kinda old... But that didn't stop him, if he wanted to be strong, he needed to be courageous, he didn't even know if the stranger was even intending to do any harm, he can't get scared now after traveling all the way here.

"I need to enter the city but the guards won't let me pass, they said I might an assassin. But they said that I can enter if you give me a mark" Said Rockruff as he explained his situation, hoping he can get to the city since he felt impatient, he was so close and yet so far to meet the legendary dogs.

"... Come in" Said the hooded pokemorph as he opened the door and let the young pup enter.

Rockruff hesitantly entered, for all he knew, he was entering a creep's cabin and might get locked in, just like in that story where a vanilluxe and swirlix got trapped in a house made of candy by a witch, and thankfully escaped by pushing her into a boiling cauldron.

Rockruff shook his head, he shouldn't be daydreaming about this, he was taught not to think badly of others before he even got to know them, saying that it was wrong so he entered and tried not to think about anything.

Rockruff saw many things that caught his interest, aside from the piles of berries, food, ingredients such as cloves of garlic, tomatoes, onions, and all kinds of vegetables in baskets placed on shelves, he saw some unusual stuff like charcoals, piles of miracle seeds, silk scarves, and other items on display.

The hooded pokemorph sat down on a wooden table, prompting him to sit down across from him.

The alchemist showed him something as he placed some items on a table, there was a pouch of sand, some kind of ice... rock?

"Do you know what this is?" The hooded stranger asked him.

"The sand is soft sand, I have so many of those in our village, we love to go swimming in the beaches, but I don't know what the other one is" Said Rockruff as he looked at the two items on the table.

"I figured as much, and I know that you wanted a symbol of passage to get inside the city, am I correct?" The figure asked him.

"Yes, it's my dream to meet the legendary dogs, I want to train under them and evolve!" Rockruff said with a determined face.

"... I see. I will give you this mark in exchange for something, just a little errand if you please" The figure said.

"Anything! As long as I get to the city, I'll do anything, the sooner the better!" Rockruff said, standing up excitedly and wagging his tail.

"Good to see you're eager, this other object is an ice rock, albeit only a small chunk of it, it can't help anybody evolve unless I have nevermelt ice. The nevermelt will reinforce the ice rock's power and turn it into an ice stone. Now you'll find a frozen waterfall in the forest, walk all the way from behind this cabin and you'll come upon it. There you'll find the frozen lake where the waterfall is, there you'll be getting some nevermelt ice, but be warned that you shouldn't linger there for long, you only need to get a portion of ice near the edge, don't stand in the frozen lake for too long or else you'll be in quite the pickle. Go get the ice stone for me, and the mark will be yours" Said the figure, coughing a bit.

"Are you alright? You seem... Sick" Said Rockruff.

"I'm completely fine, I have no need for any of your concerns. Just give me the item and in exchange, I'll give you your symbol of rite of passage to the city" Said the figure as he recovered from his coughing.

Rockruff shrugged it off before leaving him behind, carefully closing the door as he made his way out, and following the directions of this supposed frozen waterfall that this stranger guided him to.

The figure took off his hood and drank a glass of water as he left.

"I'm gonna turn at least 30 years older if I keep this up, but if that little guy follows my instructions to the letter, he'll be fine" The now unhooded stranger said, with a much smoother, younger voice this time.

Meanwhile, Rockruff was continuously walking away from the back of the cabin, following the straight lined direction that the stranger said, not knowing if he was going the right way.

"Maybe I heard something wrong? Maybe I should go back, there's now way that a frozen waterfall can exist in the middle of-" Rockruff stopped speaking as he finally came upon the frozen waterfall, in the middle of spring season too, he couldn't believe his eyes, it really existed.

The waterfall had a slippery looking slope on the edges of the water, it'd be easy to slide down onto the frozen surface as he looked down.

"So this is what nevermelt ice does... I bet this is what that guy was talking about..." Rockruff said as he eyed the snow, and saw a small chunk of ice around it.

No doubt that there were more pieces of nevermelt ice, and the snow around them was beginning to form new chunks of nevermelt ice if that was the case.

And based on the name, it was never going to melt anytime soon, even in summer he bets.

Rockruff lied down on his front as he tried to reach for one of the chunks of ice.

"Damn it... Just gotta reach further... Why does this waterfall's edge have to be bowl shaped..." Said Rockruff as he reached even further.

Unfortunately for him, he slipped and slid into the slippery surface, causing him to slide down into the middle of the lake, he was now lying down on the frozen water.

Rockruff stood up, he wasn't hurt in any way yet at least and stood in awe at the ice he was standing on.

"It's like... It's like real ice! Hehe, this is so cool, maybe I can take some of this with me" Rockruff said as he tried to slowly waddle his way back to the surface, heading for one of the chunks again.

But it was too late, he took too long standing in the middle as the ice began to crack.

"...!" Rockruff tried to get away but it was too late, the ice broke and before he knew it, he was submerged in freezing cold water.

"G-Geez! The water is freezing! I must..." Rockruff saw more ice in the bottom, and thought to take one, enduring the freezing cold temperatures, and put the ice in his pocket.

"Alright! I just gotta... W-What!?" Rockruff released a breath as he saw the hole he came in from was closing in... And realized that the ice was so intense it was beginning to freeze again!

Rockruff swam up and tried to break the ice back again, but it was no use, the ice was frozen the way it was before he even got there.

"N-No! My dreams! I'm gonna die before I will get to fulfill them! Somebody please help!" Rockruff thought as he banged on the ice.

Rockruff was beginning to drown, and in the worst place too! He will never see his family again, nor the legendary dogs! And worst of all he will die, with nobody to find his corpse for years in this frozen waterfall... Forever...

"You're awake, I'm disappointed how you completely ignored my warning" Said Suicune.

"Y-You were the one who... But... You're... You're the alchemist?" Rockruff asked him, he was in awe at how he was now in front of one of the legends he had always admired.

"That's right, I'm getting good at the old alchemist act huh?" Suicune said.

"I... I'm so sorry! You must be really mad! I should leave, I don't deserve to-" Rockruff started apologizing but stopped as soon as Suicune put a finger on his mouth and pulled him back down on the bed.

"Shhh... You're gonna suffer from hypothermia, you need warmth to keep yourself healthy, plus its getting late, just stay in here for the night, it's the least I can do after sending you on a dangerous errand, I should have just gave you the mark and have been done with it" Suicune said as he gave him a hug.

Rockruff smiled, glad that he wasn't hated by his potential mentor, looking at the window and saw that the sky was now orange, showing the sunset.

"So you followed me while I went to get the nevermelt ice?" Rockruff asked him.

"I followed you because I became concerned and didn't want someone to die from my own foolishness" Suicune said, feeling bad about what he made him go through.

"Hey it's okay, then it just means I'm trustworthy enough to be given the mark aren't I?" Rockruff asked him.

"... True, it seems you are trustworthy enough" Suicune said.

"But it's totally fine, you don't need to keep me company, I can sleep by myself" Rockruff said, reassuring him.

"No you don't understand, nevermelt ice is extremely cold, you'll need body heat while you rest" Suicune said, further hugging him.

"It's because I have no privacy. I have no room to make friends, and people always seek me out and try to meet me for their own gain. Whether it be for wealth, power, or fame, it felt like I was being used. They know nothing but selfishness so I ran away from the kingdom, but knew that it may need me so I secluded myself here" Suicune said, stroking Rockruff's fur.

Rockruff felt sad for Suicune, is this what it felt like to be a legendary? Or was he just taking his status in the wrong perspective? Either way, this was a sad life to live for if Suicune was going to be staying here for the rest of his life.

"Hey don't be sad, I mean... Wait, what do you do here anyway?" Rockruff asked him.

"What do I do? Well... Like when you visited me, I usually kept my body's features covered so nobody knew who I was. I acted like an alchemist who sold and made medicine for those less fortunate, it was my hobby before leaving as well. But I couldn't exactly enjoy myself knowing I was being sought after from everybody inside and outside the city so I decided I will live an isolated life. But I soon found that life so boring and dull, I would try to make friends with my disguise, but they all seem to be in a hurry to leave me, or have no interest in talking to me once they get what they want... I guess this is my curse, I'll forever be alone... I have yet to talk to someone as much as I have with you, but I know that you'll leave me once you get better, all of you do" Suicune said with a mix of bitterness and sorrow.

Rockruff felt even more guilty about this, here was a legendary, a strong pokemorph with exceptional powers was being fragile in front of him, he never thought that this would be his first experience with one, but he had to make him happy somehow...

"But you are one of the best pokemorphs I ever met! I mean, you saved me and all, and that's not something to take lightly, you deserve a reward for it" Rockruff said, trying to encourage Suicune.

"I... it was nothing... I don't have any need for money and favors" Suicune said, trying to dismiss his attempts at rewarding him.

Rockruff felt as if this was unfair, he wanted to reward him with something but what? If anything, Suicune needed his company, and he said that he had gotten lonely overtime... Maybe there was something he could do after all...

"I mean it! I would have died if it weren't for you, and I think I know how I would" Rockruff said before he started roaming his hands around Suicune's body.

"No, you need to know how you can protect yourself from water based attacks without relying on armor or cover, you need to adapt, especially when you're in an open area" Suicune insisted.

Rockruff loved water, but only in the context of when he went to the beach, but he never liked it when he got hit by the weakest of water type moves like water gun or whirlpool pranks by his friends. So after thinking it over, Rockruff nodded and decided he did indeed need to learn how to protect himself.

"Alright, what do I have to do to prevent myself from getting attacked by water?" Rockruff asked him.

"You'll have to figure that yourself, and fast because I won't hold back. You will pass this training if you hit me once" Suicune said before he started charging up a move.

"You better think fast, nobody will take pity or hold back just because you're a rock type" Suicune said as he then manipulated the water in the lake as it rose up and a big wave started heading toward Rockruff.

Rockruff stared at the wave, there was nowhere to run, and the trees were too far away to climb to, so he thought of something at the last second to avoid the attack.

He stomped the ground hard, and two rocks appeared from the ground like a monolith, and blocked the oncoming surf that was about to hit Rockruff.

Rockruff immediately ran over to the giant rocks he made, putting his back on it as he hoped the two rocks would hold back the wave of water without crumbling.

The rocks protected him and Rockruff sighed as the water died down, but his heart skipped a beat as he saw Suicune in the air, readying another water pulse.

"You should never let your guard down, even if you're only facing one foe" Suicune said before firing another water pulse.

Rockruff summoned some stones to block the attack with rock tomb again, but the attack had destroyed the two stones and Rockruff's eyes widened as the attack sent him flying.

"Uwaaaaaaaahhh!!!" Rockruff yelled as he tumbled onto the grass before falling into the lake.

As Rockruff descended down into the water, he saw the silhouette of Suicune lookin down at him, concerned about the young pokemorph.

"I... I need to become strong... I have to become stronger!" Rockruff thought as he began to swim up.

"Oh dear... Maybe I should call off this training, this might be too much for him..." Suicune said to himself as he considered stopping the training right there, or maybe have him do something else for the day.

"Oh, he's coming back up... Wait... Too fast...!" Suicune suddenly realized that Rockruff was swimming up too quickly.

Suddenly, Rockruff had risen from the water, and continued to rise in the air as a rocky platform was made by him and continued to rise up as he looked down at Suicune.

Rockruff then jumped off at a considerable height and the platform he was standing on broke into several pieces of rocks that he grabbed and chucked it at Suicune.

Suicune could easily catch it, and was confident that no such move could harm him.

"Rock throw is such a simple move, you need to be creative" Said Suicune as he fired two weak water guns at the two rocks to destroy them, thinking the two water guns would easily destroy the two projectiles.

"Who said I was using rock throw?" Rockruff asked, smirking at him.

Suicune was confused until the two rocks were about to collide with water gun, but before the water guns could reach the two rocks however, the rocks exploded into several smaller sharp ones. The water guns were able to destroy a few but the majority of the rocks started heading to Suicune.

"...!" Suicune was taken by surprise by the attack, and thinking quickly, manipulated the lake nearby and surrounded himself in water, using whirlpool to protect himself from the several sharp stones.

The stones were deflected and fell on the grass harmlessly, Suicune had taken a deep breath, relieved he had avoided the attack.

"You'll have to do better than that" Suicune said as the whirlpool disappeared and lost it's form, being absorbed into the grass as it lost its shape and reverted back to its shapeless form.

As the whirlpool disappeared, he was greeted by several other rock tombs clumped together and heading towards him.

Firing another water pulse, he shot out a stream of spinning water in an attempt to destroy the rocks.

"Sorry Rockruff, but my pride as a legendary won't let you easily win, no matter how cute you may be" Said Suicune, as the rocks were destroyed one by one.

As each one was destroyed, another rock monolith was revealed to have been hidden behind another, and another, another one, they were clumped together but he didn't expect this many, but no matter, he destroyed them like tissue paper as he kept blasting the rocks with water and making them break from the high pressure of his move.

As he destroyed most of the rocks, he noticed something unusual, Rockruff could have made the tombstones fly from several directions toward him, but for some reason the rocks were all concentrated in one direction.

As the rocks were mostly dealt with already, the other remaining rocks exploded, revealing Rockruff to have been behind the rocks all along.

"You should never let your guard down, especially if you're only facing one foe!" Rockruff repeated Suicune's advice to him.

"...! D-Dammit!" By this point, Rockruff was now too near from Suicune, and unleashed his stone edge on him, and there was nothing Suicune could do in time to block all the attacks at once, and whirlpool would be too slow to protect himself, and so he did the only thing to protect himself, and that was to use reflect upon himself as a last ditch effort.

Several of the sharp rocks hit the round barrier around Suicune, at first it seemed to be holding off all the rocks but they eventually broke the barrier, causing suicune to get some cuts on his body as he endured the pain, but there were too many as he fell on the ground in defeat, overwhelmed by the surprise attack.

Rockruff ran over to Suicune, and looked him over, observing his injuries and kneeling beside him, concerned if he hurt Suicune too much.

"S-Suicune? Are you alright?" Rockruff asked him, starting to feel bad as he looked at the small cuts that Suicune had sustained.

Suicune just looked up at him and brushed his thumb over his cheek.

"You did good Rockruff, you have not only impressed me but also proved that you are worthy to train under my tutelage" Suicune said as he smiled up at him.

Rockruff felt tears in his eyes leave his face, he didn't think he would ever pass a test from a legendary, but also impressed them, and in response to Suicune's words, he glomped him and was happy about the outcome.

"Thank you! Thank you thank you thank you!" Rockruff said as he thanked the legendary.

"O-Ow! The cuts! The cuts!" Suicune said, hissing in pain as his wounds were being touched.

"Agh! S-Sorry, we should get you to the city now!" Rockruff urged him as he helped him back up.

"No it's perfectly fine, these are minor wounds that I can heal in time, and a few berries will help" Suicune said as he headed towards his cabin.

"So... Does this mean I pass?" Rockruff asked him.

"You passed with flying colors. You can start your training with me tomorrow, and I will not be letting you slack from the training regimen I'll be giving you. And... I would like you to live with me if you wish" Suicune offered Rockruff.

"L-Live with you!?" Rockruff gasped, surprised he would be invited to live with the legendary.

"That is if you want to, but that is of your choice. But your training will begin tomorrow" Suicune said as he entered the cabin and started to apply some oran berry ointment on his cuts as they sat on his table.

Rockruff was glad he could finally train... But he didn't just want to train under Suicune, there was Raikou and Entei too.

"Suicune, I'd love to start tomorrow but... There's something I have to do first" Rockruff said with a bit of sadness.

Suicune was confused, didn't Rockruff want to train under him.

"I not only want to train under you, but I also want to train with your brothers too!" Rockruff admitted, hoping Suicune wouldn't get the wrong idea and get jealous all of a sudden.

"M-My brothers? You mean Entei and Raikou? What for? Didn't you want to train under me?" Suicune asked him, doubts running through his head.

"No I mean... I want to train under the three of you, I want to be the strongest in the whole world! And I can't do that unless I train and learn everything I can from you three!" Rockruff said, hoping Suicune would approve.

"... Alright, but... Would you promise to come back to me Rockruff?" Suicune asked him with a longing desire for him.

"Of course! I still need to begin my training once I ask all of you to train me" Rockruff told him.

"No Rockruff, I ask you to come back to me... I have grown to be fond of you, and I wish to share many more passionate nights with you for the rest of my life" Suicune said with a blush as he held onto the canine's hand.

"O-Oh... I don't know if I'm ready for all this yet" Rockruff said, not sure if being in a relationship with a legendary was a good idea.

"Think it over, I know you'll make the right decision one day" Suicune said as he let his hand go.

"I better get started then, the sooner the better!" Rockruff said as he stood up from the table.

"Wait! You'll need this" Suicune said as he took his hand and gave him something cold and hard on his palm.

It was... The nevermelt ice that he tried to get.

"What's this for?" Rockruff asked him.

"This is the mark of course, you'll need it to get past the guards" Suicune informed him.

"You mean this was what I needed to get inside all along?" Rockruff asked him.

Suicune nodded.

"A dangerous errand, but necessary, all visitors need to contribute to the supplies of the kingdom, and this will let you gain entry. The kingdom is in shortage of nevermelt ice, and this gives us an excuse to receive visitors no matter how strange or unknown they may be. And the best way for anybody walking through the gates to identify themselves and what they are capable of is through me. And you've more than proved yourself" Suicune said as he pierced the ice with an ice pick, and slid a thread inside it and wrapped it around Rockruff's neck.

"Oh... I didn't know this was as important as I thought it would be... I thought it was just something the guards made up at first to make visitors go away... But still, I am grateful Suicune, I'll forever be in your debt for saving my life" Rockruff said as he played with the small piece of ice on his neck.

"Promise to keep yourself safe until then alright?" Suicune asked him.

"I promise Suicune" Rockruff promised him.

Suicune kissed him on the forehead, before letting him go.

"I will miss you Rockruff, until then, please keep me in your mind, my door is always open to you" Suicune said to him in a loving manner.

"I won't ever forget you Suicune, I'll forever be grateful!" Rockruff said before running to the cabin's door, opening and running back to the gates of the kingdom setting forth toward finding the other two legendary dogs.
