#16 of the new wolf

hey guys, sorry for being quiet again. seems like i am just having trouble with writing for some reason. hopefully i can change that soon.

At that time my phone went off in my pocket. I pulled it out and the caller ID was from The Alpha. Huh, why is she calling me? "Excuse me, I should take this." I separate myself from Elliot and Charles. Once I was far enough away, I brought the phone up to my ear, "yes Alpha."

"Hello Chester," She greeted me, "I am calling to see if Elliot has arrived at the campgrounds yet."

"Yes, Elliot is on the campgrounds. I was just in the middle of showing him around when you called." I turned back to Elliot and he seemed to have started to talk with Charles.

"Ah good," on the other end I hear the cackling of some wrappers, "I just received a call from Ami that the medication for Elliot is ready as well."

I was a bit shocked, "really already? That was quick. I thought we would have to wait until Monday for the meds to be ready."

"Yeah, but considering his mental state, I had to pull a few strings to get them ahead of schedule."

"Yeah," my heart sank a bit after hearing that, "but would it be enough though?"

"It would be a start at least. Granted the stuff he was taking before was something basic, as Oscar puts it, so it might not be enough for him." I hear the sounds of the Alpha biting into something, "if that is the case, we would either have to increase the dosage or move him onto something else entirely. However that decision will be left up to Andray when he sees Elliot."

I feel a bit of relief, "so Andray would be Elliot's psychiatrist then?" Andray is a good person, he might be one of the better options for Elliot.

"For now at least."

I raised an eyebrow, "For now?"

The Alpha sighed, "Andray had some reservations about working with a case as delicate as Elliot right now."

I raised my voice, "If he had reservations then why did he accept?"

"He didn't really accept taking Elliot under his charge and more agreed to at least give him the look over since he was the only one that could have looked at him on short notice. He is not as experienced as the others though, so Elliot would probably be sent to one of the others should Andray not be up for the task."

"Then why not send Elliot to a more experienced one in the first place? Why do it in a roundabout way?"

"You weren't paying attention were you Chester," she said, partially exasperated, "Andray was the only one that could have seen him on such short notice. My main concern now is that we get Elliot medicated and that the medication works as intended. Once that is settled, we would be able to begin teaching him control and help him adjust to life as a werewolf. Do you understand Chester?"

I nod my head, "yeah, I understand."

"Good, now get Elliot to the infirmary to pick up the medicine and, while you are there, a physical as well."

"Understood."

"Alright, bye." I hear the click of the Alpha hanging up on me. The way she was talking to me at the end sounded almost like my mother, haughty. It was a frustrating feeling getting talked down to like I was still a child, but there was nothing I could do about it.

I walked back to Elliot and Charles, who seemed to have been talking while I was away. "Hey sorry about that." I say trying to keep a cheerful tone, "That was the Alpha."

Charles smirked, "oh, is it a secret mission?"

I wave him off, "Nah, just asking for me to take Elliot for his physical."

Elliot looked puzzled by what I said, "Physical?"

"It's standard practice when joining that a physical is done when new members join. We got everything ready for you."

"If it's something I have to do." he said, his face looking vaguely unsure about something, "Might be good since I don't even remember the last time I went to a doctor."

It was shocking to hear someone say that. That wasn't a good sign. "yeah." I grab onto Elliot's arm without thinking much about it and start dragging him off of the beach, "come on, Ami is waiting for us."

As I drag him away Elliot shouts,"Didn't I say you don't need to keep pulling me around all the time."

###

Once Chester stopped dragging me by the arm, he led me to a building that was on the other side of the camp from where the lake was. "Here it is." Chester said, "this is where the infirmary is."

I look at the building. It was just as non descript as the other buildings besides the infirmary signs hanging on the wall. "I see.'' As I look over the building, I get a strange sense of deja vu. I don't remember ever being here the last time I was here, but it still feels familiar.

"Elliot," Chester said, "something wrong?"

"Oh sorry." I break out my thoughts.

As we enter the building, I immediately see what was a little waiting room one might see at a pediatricians office. On the wall were colorful images of wolves and forests. There was some sort of a stand with books on it, which I assume was for reading while waiting around and a turned off TV hanging on the wall. I guess with the summer camp being for kids and such, they would make the infirmary like this.

The door at the other end of the room opens and a woman walks in. She looked around my age and of asian descent, wearing a light red blouse and some jeans, her black hair reaching down to her shoulders. "Hello," she said, "are you Elliot?"

"Yeah," I answered, "and you are?"

The woman had a panicked look on her face, "oh oh, i'm sorry. That was rude of me. I am Ami Kari. I will be in charge of your physical."

"Okay."

"I'm sorry."

I raise an eyebrow, "Excuse me?"

"We-well you just looked disappointed, so i just assumed--"

"Ami please stop," Chester interrupted her, "you didn't do anything wrong."

"Oh sorry."

Chester facepalmed, looking a bit exasperated, "Ami just stop. You're a Beta for fucks sake."

I was shocked, "Wait, this girl is a Beta?"

Ami apologized.

"Yeah, thought she just got the position recently," Chester answered, "anyway, we are here for Elliot's physical."

Once Chester said that, Ami straightened up her posture,"Oh yes, that's right. Please follow me." Ami led us to an examination room without apologizing this time.

When I stepped into the examination room, I got hit with another sense of deja vu. This room felt too familiar to just be a coincidence. The decorations on the wall. The examination table. The counter top and the tools on it. It just felt all too familiar.

"Um Elliot."Ami called out.

The voice knocked me out of my daze, "huh, oh yes?"

"Sorry to disturb you, but we should start the examination." Ami gestered to the scale, "do you mind standing on here please."

"Oh sure," I stepped onto the scale. A second later, numbers flashed on it.

Ami just glanced at it, "okay." She wrote it down on the clipboard she was holding. "You wouldn't know your height off the top of your head would you?"

"Five eight." i answered

"I see. Can you sit down in that chair," she pointed to the chair in the corner of the room. When I sat in it, Ami pulled out a pressure cuff. As she did her thing with the blood pressure, it was then I just noticed something.

Before she stood out to me as an unsure kind of girl. I mean with the way she apologized to me every time she opened her mouth, it wouldn't be hard to notice. Now she just seemed like a completely different person. She acted like she was a professional nurse someone would have found in a doctors office.

The rest of the physical passed without any complications. She did her things and wrote down the numbers and results she found or whatever I answered to. After getting some of my blood, she covered the hole with a cotton thing and tied it to my arm. "Alright," she said while putting away the vials of blood, "So Elliot, you take medication right?"

"I do," I answered.

"Can you tell me their names as well as the dosage if you can recall?"

I gave her the names of my medication and the dosages I took.

She just nodded her head, "alright, I'll get you your new medication." Before I could get a word in, she left the room in a rush.

I turn to Chester, who has been quiet since the physical started, "new medication? What does she mean by that?"

"She means the new medication that you will be taking." he answered, "human medication doesn't really work well on werewolves, if at all in some cases. Because of that, the medicine and prescription has to be made specifically to be of use for werewolves."

"Here? In the camp?"

Chesters shakes his head, "no we have labs for that, made by people who sorta knows what they are doing."

That word was not filling me with confidence, "sorta?"

"Werewolf medicine is really complicated and needs lots of research to actually get the results we wanted. The campground is the way we get the data we need for the professionals at the lab too do the things they are paid for."

Ami stepped back into the room, her hand holding a little box, "Elliot, i got you your medication." She opens it up and shows me three pill bottles, "these will be taken around the same time of the medications you are taking right now. The dosages are the same as well. I suggest you start taking them as soon as possible." she picks up one of the bottles, "this one you will be taking in the morning. Two with water and food preferable, do not chew them." she puts back the first one and gets out the second one, "this one will be taken at night, swallowed whole with water. Preferably before bed."

I reach over and pick up the third medication. On it the words Mayatix was in bold, "So is the third one the experimental drug I will be testing?"

When I said that, Ami became flustered, "oh um i ah." all the professionalism she showed during the physical seems to have disappeared. "See um the mayatix is for something else."

"So what's it for?" I turned the bottle around in my hand, hoping to see some sort of description or something.

Ami got a bit more flustered, "W-well its-"

"Maybe I should explain it, "Chester interrupted.

"I'm sorry." Ami takes a step away from me.

Chester turned to me, "Mayatix is a special medication we give to werewolves that have changed via magic. Since you weren't always a werewolf, we are giving you that medication."

"But what does it do?" I ask, "you aren't just giving me random meds are you?"

"No no, we have a chart we use when prescribing werewolves medication. but Mayatix is different," Chester pauses and rubs the back of his head, "it's supposed to induce transformation in werewolves."

I immediately turned red, "What the hell?" I toss the bottle on the ground in a fury and watched it bounce off the linoleum floor, "why the fuck would you give me that?"

"Now Elliot calms down, it is just something this pack does. Your body is not used to transforming yet so-"

I jump off the examination table and square up to Chester, "But I don't want to become a wolf. That is the whole fucking reason i join this pack in the first place. Why the fuck would you give me something that will change me into a wolf?"

"Elliot calm down and listen."

"No you listen, I joined the pack so I can get my hand on the drug that will allow me to stay human. And now the first thing you give me is the exact opposite of what I need. How the fuck is this what i need right now?" I was shaking with fury. How could they expect me to be okay with this shit.

Chester's eyes quickly glance at Ami before turning back to me, "yeah, you have a point Elliot now just calm down."

The sudden change caught me off guard, "huh?"

Chester goes and picks up the bottle, "you don't have to take the Mayatix if it upsets you that much. We'll take it off the list of medicines we shall make for you." he passes the bottle to Ami, "can you hold this for now?"

Ami looked a bit stunned but accepted it, "but Chester the rule states he needs to be on it. What would the Alpha say when she learns he is not taking it?"

"Look, we will be seeing the Alpha later so we can talk about it with her later." he looks back to me, "so Elliot can you step outside for a moment, i need to talk to Ami privately for a moment."

"Huh?"

Chester turned me around and forced me out of the examination room, "just simple Beta stuff, it is rude to talk about that stuff in front of non Betas so you would have to wait outside." he said that but he was practically pushing me out the door with the box of medicine. Once I was outside he slammed the door in my face and I heard the click of it locking behind me.

What the fuck just happened?

###

After getting Elliot outside and locking the door, I walked back to the examination room.

Ami spoke up when i entered, "um Chester, you know he can't-"

I stop her, "look, you saw how upset the idea of turning into a wolf made him. If i didn't stop him, he might have transformed right there and we would have both been in trouble."

"But the pack rules are-"

"Absolute," I finish, "besides I am not suggesting he would never take it. I am just thinking it might be a better idea to wait until he is a bit more comfortable with the idea before having him take it. Besides, there is something I need to ask you."

"Oh what is it?"

"What did you have in your hand?"

My question seemed to starle Ami as she immediately turned away from me,"Huh? I don't know what you are talking about."

I get in her view again, a noticeable scowl on my face,"You pulled something out while Elliot had his back turned to you and yelled at me. What was it?"

Ami looked ashamed and backed away from me, "I'm sorry. I'm sorry. Please don't be upset." she reached into her pocket and showed me what it was. In her hands was the tranquilizer that we use for subduing werewolves.

While it wouldn't be shocking for someone like Claude to have a tranq on him, it was out of character for Ami. At least I think it is, "Ami, why do you have that?"

"I'm sorry. It was the Alpha's idea." Ami took a few more steps away from me, "she said if Elliot gets upset and might transform during the physical, I was supposed to use it on him. I really didn't want to use it but the Alpha insisted."

I felt anger build up in me. I just wanted to shout at her. But i had to keep my cool, "Ami do you understand what would have happened if you messed it up. Elliot might have transformed out of a sense of betrayal and attacked both of us. You could have put the both of us in serious risk."

Ami backs away from me, tears forming in her eyes, "I'm sorry. I tried to refuse, but the Alpha forced me to carry it. I really didn't want to use it, you have to believe me Chester." Ami had her back to the wall and the trang pointed at me, her hands shaking.

I backed off. Yelling at Ami wouldn't do anything productive. Besides, it was the Alpha's idea anyway. When i see her at the joining, i will have a word with her.

My phone buzzes in my pocket. It's a text from Dillion. On the way to the camp, be there soon. Okay so I guess I don't have to wait that long.
