Faux Fur

Carla goes to the mall to get something to spice up her coming anniversary with her girlfriend, but her fur coat earns the ire of an eco-conscious witch. The witch, encouraged by her Discord pals, makes to give Carla a 100% ethical fur coat of her own.

I fully intend to write a post-TF followup piece to this, but it's been slow going so I figured I could put this here as Part One, even though it's been three months.

It was their anniversary in a week, and Carla had to get her girlfriend something nice. Okay, so, they weren't exactly married, but they'd been together so long that if they were a straight couple they'd already be common law married, so what was the harm? They also didn't exactly keep track of when their friendship became a romantic thing, so they just picked the date they first met up in-person, and that was that. It was as good a day as any other.

Carla had been trawling the mall for something nice. She'd picked up a couple pleasant smelling candles, and was trying to think of the last thing to make a great night perfect. It was planned to be a casual, stay-at-home situation with takeout and movies, rather than a whole big expensive ordeal. The most expensive factor so far was the big double disc limited edition vinyl LP of the latest album from Meghan's favorite band. It was the real reason she'd gone to the mall; all the other shopping was just for accouterments to make for a perfect night.

Unfortunately, while walking around and around, sipping on her book store coffee shop drink, she'd attracted some undesired attention. A younger lady in a dark dress and hat had tried to ignore her. She was playing on her phone, messaging in a group for eco-conscious witches. 'This bitch,' she typed, 'walking around in her shaggy fur coat in the mall, like some kind of mighty hunter. If I see her walk by one more time who knows what I'll do!'

'Yass! u got this Sabrina!' came the first reply from a server-mate. Sabrina smiled as a string of emojis appeared on the screen of her phone. Soon the conversation turned to the topic of spell jars, as another witchy sister was having tribulations of her own.

Just fifteen minutes later, Carla walked by another time, on the way to get something cute to wear from Charli's Confidential. The young witch followed her, mumbling "Do not perceive me" under her breath. It must have worked because Carla didn't notice the girl at all.

She stepped into the pink and perfumed world of Charli's Confidential and began to browse. There were a ton of options and plenty of time to kill, so Carla started at the front and figured she'd work her way to the back before she decided on anything.

A friendly worker greeted her and Carla waved and smiled. When she greeted Sabrina, the girl stammered an awkward "Hello, just looking!" and looked away. Despite all her attempts at self empowerment, this kind of store wasn't exactly her forte. Sabrina wore mostly plain cheap bulk pack underwear, and the closest thing to racy she had were short hemmed dresses (In black, of course), and way too many pairs of chunky knit thigh high socks. That is to say, she didn't look very natural in the store, but she had to stick close to Carla to weave her magic, and while she was going to bind this woman's life to the whims of nature, she herself was bound to the whims of Carla's browsing.

Every second was another that Sabrina's glamour was stretching thin. There was always that subtle panic of worrying if the magic was working, even as she felt its effervescent quasi-texture running through her fingers as she knitted it. She knew she had to be patient, though. The origins of this curse were subtle. No one would notice it except her, and by the time the victim would realize something was wrong, well, it would be too late. She just had to keep on her and keep her concentration, and have a little faith. After all, Sabrina couldn't feel what Carla was feeling, and the subtle flush of fur starting to sprout like a carpet of grass had no more outward affect than causing the girl to inattentively scratch at her stomach. It always started along the natural body hair lines of the human body; groin, chest, belly, legs and lower arms. In the summer these changes would be more apparent but since Carla was covered up, Sabrina had to make inferences from where she saw her scratch.

Speaking of scratching, there was the first visible sign for her. Carla's nails were growing longer, more sturdy and curved. Of course, Sabrina notices that her target's index and middle fingers had trimmer, shorter nails on them. What kind of weird fashion trend was that? In the end it didn't matter, though, because they were all becoming more and more uniform. Those darkened, stronger claws brushed back a lock of short hair from her ears, and revealed their pointed, tawny-fuzzed tips. Another of the early alterations.

Carla scratched at one of her sneaker-clad feet with the other, thinking about how these shoes had fit before. She also held up a lovely pair of panties, thinking about how she should schedule her leg shaving days so that she'd be perfectly smooth on that special night instead of all stubbly, or even worse, razor-burned from having to rush. She swore she'd just shaved recently, but maybe she didn't get as close as she thought, because her jeans felt pretty weird. She also felt pretty hot, but didn't feel like taking off her jacket and having to carry it a round, especially since she was just about done. She'd already made it to the back of the store and seen just about everything new, and had a couple of ideas.

Certainly, her favorite was a very short, very little satin robe that would look absolutely killer loosely tied over a set of dark lingerie. This was threatening to be the most expensive part, but she flagged down the friendly worker from earlier and asked to try on the robe to make sure it fit the way she wanted. As she was taken to the rooms, Sabrina nearly panicked. Those were tight quarters and she needed to stay close to the girl. She had no choice but to walk right past the assistant, who thankfully gave her no more than a blank glance. She slid into the stall next to the one Carla was occupying, since something as drastic as barging in the same one was sure to break her glamour with shear cognitive dissonance.

The witch stood on a chair and furtively peeked over the dividing wall. Carla didn't seem to see her, so she took advantage of the view to maintain her eye contact and try to speed this thing up. She didn't want to spend all day cursing someone after all.

What Sabrina hadn't taken into account, however, was that Carla was going to at least partially undress to try on her robe. She hung up her jacket and pulled her black t-shirt over her head, revealing the cream colored bra she was wearing. The witch blushed and glanced away to steel herself. She had to get this to work. And oh, it was working. Even as Carla brushed her thickening fingers over the fur blazing across her belly and chest, she didn't have the presence of mind to do more than frown at how weird she felt.

She held the robe up in fingers that were already becoming stubbier, with thickening, soft pads growing at the end. It was a difficult task, since her thumb was already going the way of a dewclaw and had far less mobility than just minutes ago. She wrapped the fine satin around herself and posed in the mirror, deciding that it fit fine, even though it rubbed the tan fur on her shoulders a little funny

Her sneakers were also killing her. Without a thought she kicked them off and to the side, instantly forgetting she'd ever had them. Those shoes! If Sabrina could get ahold of them, she'd be able to really speed up the rest of this spell.

Carla couldn't really see it, but she already had thick pads on her toes and foot. They were more like paws than anything, complete with orange-ish cinnamon fur. The heel and ankle was still humanoid, it wouldn't remain that way long. Walking was already awkward, and even as she was redressing and getting her stuff together, she was teetering on her new paws like she was walking in invisible stilettos.

There was also the issue with her pants. They were just not right. Wrong, wrong. They were rubbing so weird. She felt around the back of them, and tugged the waistband down. There was already a tail sprouted, covered in cream and gray dark-tipped fur. It was nubby so far, but now that it was released and the Sabrina caught sight of it, it flowed out into a much more developed appendage the same way that a rush of anticipation and queasy delight flowed through Sabrina. It curled side to side in delight of being free. Sabrina was so proud of herself and was so wrapped up in the feeling she got from seeing that, that she didn't realize Carla had left until the door clicked. Quickly the witch scrambled over the wall with some difficulty, crashing on the floor of the other changing stall and grabbing the canvas sneakers from the ground in a rush to catch up.

Luckily, Carla had only made it to the cash register. As she was going through the normal smalltalk with the cashier, her lips weren't cooperating quite right and her voice was taking on a rougher, deeper tone. The cashier complimented her on her black lipstick but she swore she was just wearing her usual pink lip balm. There was also the matter of her whiskers being brushed by her hair that kept her continually brushing it back, but that just made it get in the way of her twitching ears, which were burning in a strange way as they grew out bigger and bigger. The beep of the scanner made her jump and make a weird squeaking yip, but when the cashier looked up she only laughed and brushed it off by saying that she was tired today.

There was something about having a possession of her target in her grasp that made channeling this so much easier. Sabrina's heart fluttered with glee as she saw the snowballing effect of the changes. Already Carla's nose was turning dark and her face was contorting before her eyes.

Her tongue fell from her mouth, long and narrow and pink and canine. The blaze of fur was spreading up her neck and over her body, her legs were rebelling against her jeans and her hands were very, very firmly paws now. The loud noises and weird looks she was getting were starting to get to Carla. She felt floaty, like she was in a dream. Her body wasn't moving right. It was like being drunk, but worse. It was more like being high, but also dreaming, while also levitating. Her limbs just weren't functioning. She dropped her bags and didn't even realize when she picked them up by the handles with her petite snout. Her tail wagged, hanging down at an angle from her back. The pelt spreading over her perfectly matched the pattern of her fur coat.

By the time she got to the parking lot she was barely bipedal, and a lot closer to those videos she liked to watch of dogs acting like people. Her legs were shaped wrong for her pants and she was struggling, and her underwear was just not clinging to her right. There was something jostling and taking up space in there, while there was a distinctive looseness in the cups of her bra even while the band was digging into her chest painfully. She was huffing. So close to her car. Where had she parked? She was so close to her car. It was safe in there. People were staring.

She looked behind her. There was a girl following her. She turned and continued to search but for some reason she just fell to her hands. Everything was so much bigger, it seemed. These pants were just not right. She struggled to kick them off until she shrunk out of them enough, but now her jacket's sleeves were pinned under her paws and she really liked that jacket and didn't want it to get dirty. Her panties had gone with her jeans and now she was naked from the waist down. This meant it was time for Sabrina to admit it to herself that she got turned on watching people turn. The moment Carla went down on all fours, a sudden surge of emotion absolutely tore open the throttle on the changes.

Sabrina felt so powerful. This fur-wearing bitch was much closer to a literal interpretation of the words, however, there was one little, tiny, small difference. Well, it wasn't exactly a little one. The curse wasn't just to change her species, but her sex as well, and now the girl standing on all fours in the parking lot in broad day light looked a lot like a fully functional, intact male coyote. There were just a few more final touches to be had. Finally dropping the glamour between her and her victim, she got closer to the confused canid, and squatted down in front of her to brush the remains of her fashionable pixie cut hairdo from her slender animal head.

"I-I'm sorry, miss?" the coyote said. Her form was settling. The foggy feeling was starting to dissipate. She still felt extremely altered, consciousness wise, like she didn't have full use of her brain.

"Don't even worry about it. You won't be able to soon, anyway." Oh gosh, a speech! Sabrina so rarely got to do speeches. She was usually so wrapped up in meting out a curse that she forgot all about it. "But it's okay. It's so nice of you, you know? To replace the animal that made your coat. And since you're going to be such a stud, you're probably going to make a net gain in the population. Wouldn't that be nice?"

"Coat?" There was a whining tinge, like animal vocal cords struggling to speak. Her coat was still on her but it just didn't feel right, it didn't fit right, and it was hanging down and the sleeves were getting dirty as the new coyote made distressed little steppies.

"Yes, the coat, the fur coat. You won't need that anymore, can I take it off you?" Sabrina started to undress the animal, pushing her back into a sitting position. Carla's snout wrinkled a little as she felt a new part of her resting on the rough, cold asphalt, and that new part wasn't her tail.

"Coat... Coat!" She barely sounded human anymore. But she was starting to put things together, even as it felt like her brain was melting in her skull. There was a lot less room in there now. Things had to be liquidated or greatly simplified.

"I know, but you have your own coat now, and it's so pretty and sustainable." Sabrina pulled the animal's other foreleg out of it. Then she threw the garment aside, and started to work on the t-shirt that was still clinging to it. Oh, and the empty bra that sat all haphazardly on the animal's slender frame. There hadn't been any breasts to fill it for awhile now. Oh, good time for a selfie, too, to show the server. Cozying up to the passive magically-addled animal and taking a selfie took only a second.

"Coat... Fur." Carla saw herself in the phone's front cam, then looked back over her body. She looked like an animal. There was something weird between her legs. She felt so woozy. She was moving like an animal recovering from a tranq.

"Yes, yes, I get it. Hold on, let me speed this up, it's been fun but I'm already just about over this and people are gonna start noticing you real quick and I don't want you to get caught by animal control." Sabrina stood up, grasping the coat as the new channeling item, to finish off this so she could go gloat to her girlfriends about it.

"Coat... Faurrr... Faurrruff! Fake!!"

Sabrina's Xanadu of ecstacy and pride came crashing down around her. She looked back at the animal she was walking away from. "You're shitting me."

"Fake furrrooou! Farrorourou!" It descended into atavistic whining and yowling as the curse's momentum carried it across the finish line.

Stunned, Sabrina looked down at the coat in her hands. It did feel... weird. She'd never felt a real fur coat, though. "No, fuck, you're fucking with me to the end!" She bunched up the coat and was about to throw it away, thinking that she should just commit and leave this animal to its fate, but she couldn't shake the curiousity and the gut wrenching guilt. She had to know.

Shakily, she opened it up, and looked at the lining inside. There it was, plain on the label. 100% acrylic shell, polyester lining.

She slumped to the asphalt with the whining, confused animal, whose ears were pinned and whose tail was tucked between its legs, staring at her with wide but unfocused eyes, in a circle of discarded clothes and strewn shopping bags. Sabrina pulled out her phone, and saw in the chat that everyone was already going crazy over her selfie and congratulating her.

'Girls,' she typed, 'I fucked up. It was faux fur.'

There was a knock at the door, which was weird. It wasn't until the second knock that Meghan was really sure of what she was hearing. Nobody really knocked these days and Carla had her own keys. Maybe she was carrying too much to open it? She'd been at the mall for awhile. She went to the door, still in her pajamas with wet hair after her post-work shower, and opened it. She was expecting to see her girlfriend, but instead there was this girl in a black dress and boots and hat, with a large pet carrier and a bag of dogfood and some other shopping bags behind her.

"Can I help you?" Meghan asked. The girl smiled and pushed past her into the living room, setting the bags down. Then she grabbed the pet carrier and dragged it inside.

"Whew, no need to help, I need the workout anyways. Hi, I'm Sabrina!" she said, offering her hand. Meghan, still standing by the open door, just looked down at it.

"Why are you in my house?" Meghan asked. The pet carrier shook and there was a high pitched bark from inside. "What's that?"

"Well, okay, it's a long story and it's a lot to explain so I'll just get to it. That's Carla! Doesn't she look great?"

That didn't sound very much like Carla. In fact it sounded a lot like some kind of dog. Meghan leaned over to peer inside the pet carrier, and at the back there was something much like a wolf but smaller and scrawnier. Upon seeing her face, the animal sprung forward against the front of the crate and tried to reach through the grate, but the grate was too fine for its paws.

Meghan recoiled. "That's just a coyote!" Sabrina rolled her eyes.

"Okay, see, you went and upset her feelings and you're making this way harder on me, so," she held her hand up, palm open, in front of Meghan's face, and before she could pull away, she smacked her forehead with her palm. Meghan shivered for a second as she dimly perceived something metaphorically piercing her skin like a needle.

All at once the perspective hit her. It wasn't like she saw the memories, but it was more like getting a real quick powerpoint about the situation up to this point.

"Oh my god, Carla!" Meghan gasped, and dropped down to her knees in front of the pet carrier. The coyote inside whined.

"Yep! Anyways, as you can see, she's a perfectly fit and healthy male coyote. Now I brought you some really nice high protein organic kibble, a nice collar and a handy charm, and some toys and brushes since I didn't see you having any pets on your facebook."

"What? What did you do to her? Male?"

"Okay, look, everyone's been giving me hell but it was a simple mistake okay? I thought she was wearing real fur so I laid a curse on her, but I was wrong. Okay? I was wrong. There, I said it. Anyways, I'm trying to make this right but I need like, a month? Two maybe? I need to find a way to reverse it."

"You don't know how?!"

"No, I've never had to before! Usually I only get people that deserve it! Anyways so, I got you some stuff so you can take care of her nice. And I brought you the stuff she bought at the mall. And I brought you back her car. So really you should thank me. I could've just let her run off!"

Meghan sat back and held her head, dark hair falling over her face. "What am I going to do now?"

"Aw," Sabrina said and kneeled down. She put her hand on the woman. "So, you take good care of her, and I'll pop in once in awhile and update you on my findings, okay?"

"But she's an animal," she said, looking up at the witch.

"Well, yeah. But it's not that bad. It's still her, after all. What good would a punishment do if there was nothing left of the person to reckon it?"

"So... she's just, trapped in that body? It's still her?"

"...Sorta." Sabrina frowned.

"Sorta?"

"Well... Okay, here's the issue. The curse I laid is a real doozy. It's still her, er, Carla, in there. But her brain is shaped like a male coyote's. It's perfect. Well, for a male coyote. And so she's going to have a really hard time hanging onto stuff, but, coyotes are pretty smart and she obviously recognizes you and will remember stuff. I'm not sure how much because, well, I've never done any follow up on any of my targets."

"This is a lot," Meghan sighed. "So what do I do?"

"Well. Here's the thing. She's going to have lots of instincts and behaviors like an animal. I want my targets to survive in the wild after all! Even thrive! But, if you treat her like an animal, it's going to make this curse set in really hard and maybe make it impossible to remove, if it isn't already."

"Jesus. You just do this to people?"

"Usually they deserve it! And hey, I'm making this right. Just treat her like Carla and feed her a nice balanced diet and don't let her escape. Take her on walkies and keep her healthy. But, make sure you treat her like your girlfriend still, okay? Or else she's going to be a coyote forever."

With that, Sabrina gave Meghan one last pat on the back, and then left. Meghan got up after a sec and ran to the door that was left open, but the witch was nowhere to be seen. Sure enough, Carla's car was still in the driveway. With a sigh, Meghan returned to her house, where the pet carrier containing her cruelly metamorphosized wild animal girlfriend sat amidst a mess of plastic shopping bags.
