At top speed I had managed to close the distance on our target. The closer i felt myself get to the target the more i found myself going over the mission in my head, this process being instinctual due to training. Every possible outcome had been thought about by military intelligence. I scoffed a little at that thought, since noone could truely think of a solution to every possible outcome, the history i read during my education had been proof of that. I slowed to a light jog than stopped completly to catch my breath. The mission was supposed to be simple. A human prisoner had escaped from a "processing" camp, a recent addition to the camp after a failed assassination attempt, the human had information about a militant group calling themselves Freedom's Unity of America. Past events and actions by the group had forced the "terrorist" label onto them by the goverment i served. Information about them was lacking but their goal was well known around base. they wanted to set the world "right" by having everyone serve and rely on five leaders, who now lead the FUA. In order to do that they wanted to break down the "corrupt" leaderships that now reigned over each part of the world, break down their corrupt teachings and build everything back up to help recreate the "perfect world." No plausable information was known about the leaders of FUA but rumors ran wild, around base, about a few of the leaders being old enough to have known and loved the way america had been before, the "perfect world."

Once more i caught myself lost in thought. i quickly shook my head, trying to snap myself back to the mission. Thankfully i had been far enough ahead of the rest of my squad so, hopefully, noone would notice another lapse of thought. Once they caught up i pointed ahead and turned to my squads leader, lowering my voice to a near whisper "The scent is strongest and more recent here. The tracks on the ground further hint to our target being just ahead. I smell no other scents in the area, which would lead me to think that he is alone. It could also mean they are using scent spray to hide themselves, and thinking on all the outcomes predicted by military intelligence, we are walking into a trap." Buck, a large male wolf, not perticularly friendly towards me or talkative since i joined RSN, nodded and turned to the others in the squad, a few silent commands and the rest of the squad spread out. Before i could take up position buck stopped me, "We can handle this new blood. Why dont you sit back and watch us preform. Wouldnt want you hurting yourself or getting killed your first mission out." I clenched my teeth and thought about resisting the command but quickly stopped when a small jolt of pain shot through my body, a sign that it was a order to be followed. I shivered slightly, letting the pain run its course through my body. afterwards i looked for the closest tree that had a view of the mission area and waited there after climbing as high as i dared.

From my spot in the tree i watched the mission play out. Buck and the rest of RSN moved into position than executed the mission quickly from one direction. My view from the tree showed that the mission area was a medium sized clearing within the forest. despite my surroundings i couldnt hear anything. no birds or critters scurrying around. nothing. it was dead quiet. weither instinctual, or something else, i felt my fur stand on end "It's a trap.." i whispered outloud, my mind saying the same thing as i said it. I clenched my teeth together and grasped the branch underneath me as tightly as i could. there was no way i could warn the rest of the squad. aside from the collars around our necks, and some light armor that was different based on the wearer's gender, we didnt have communication devices. I climbed down from the tree as quick as i could. A sudden realization dawning on me as my pads touched the cold earth below, "I hadn't checked my surroundings." that thought ran through my mind continually as i quickly turned and looked around myself "Too late to do anything about it now." went through my mind and was quickly interrupted as i heard gunfire coming from the direction the rest of my squad was at. Dread filled my body as the gunfire ended as quickly as it had started.

Heart pounding i took off at a dead run, taking only seconds to reach the clearing. As soon as i entered my eyes where filled with the sight of troopers from the FUA picking up the bodies of my squadmates. "dead or alive?" i shook the thought from my mind and lowered to all fours, quicker than i realized i had done it, my training kicking in and putting my normal self into a back seat to watch was happening. "fight and die or run away?" was the only thought in my mind. A small shock went through my body at the thought of running away. I tilted my head for a moment and took in my surroundings quickly. For the moment it seemed that noone had seen my entrance. I had the advantage. My body reacted and I found myself attacking the closest trooper to me. The trooper seemed to be the lightest armored trooper in the clearing, wearing only a vest, thigh, shin, shoulder and wrist armor. luck would see my pounce hit its mark accurately and efficently. before the trooper could react i had him pinned to the ground, in the same swift movement i lowered my head to the troopers neck, digging my sharp canines into the warm flesh, where i than lifted my head upwards, taking the humans juggular with me. the scent of blood filled the air as warm liquid coated the sides of my maw, some of it splashing across my face. One fluid motion would have me dropping the flesh from between my teeth and have me quickly jumping from the troopers limp body. Dropping back to all fours, and running at the next closest trooper, I pounced and sailed silently through the air. a voice rang out. Before i had time to react the trooper quickly turned swinging his RFaR-21 like a bat. I felt myself hit the ground hard, pain coursing through my body, with warm fluid soaking the side of my head. I barely managed to stay concious as my squads target calmly walking towards my body. I could see his mouth moving but didn't hear what he was saying. My vision then faded and left me drifted in darkness while a male's voice echoed in my mind "Take the living, leave the dead."
