A short poem back from 2017, originally written as a submission for Heat back when it was running and accepting erotic poetry. In this poem two horse anthros choose a nomadic life in order to be together.

Long have we shared forbidden dreams,

Kept secret by an art of subtle glances

While I went about braiding your mane,

So you could at least be beautiful before a fight.

Now as you gather my pale hide, close,

Under the halter of your rowan coat,

I feel your words, breathing out our secrets,

Lying curled, kidding the crux of my neck.

When I close my eyes I can glimpse

Us both caught in the gallop,

Bodies shivering, slick with sweat,

Joining the thunder across the plain.

Like a dark horse you came to me

And stole me away for the night.

Breathless, we outlawed ourselves,

Sacrificing our unsullied names

Purely for the sake of unbridled love.

I have no doubts now as sensation riots,

How well you play the full-blooded stallion;

I was right to cast away a kingdom for you.

Now, run your hands carefully over me,

Remember how I used to braid your mane,

Weaving with whispers of how you'd care for me.

Of that promise I never had a doubt.
